Casa del Sol in Fort Bragg is truly a hidden gem. It's tucked away and not the first restaurant you see, so a lot of people walk right past it. but don't make that mistake. When we arrived, the place was quiet, but we decided to give it a try, and I'm so glad we did. Our waitress was incredibly warm, attentive, and accommodating. The food? Fresh and flavorful. They don't normally serve the Brazilian seafood stew at lunch, but because it wasn't busy, the waitress and chef offered to make it for us anyway. That alone earned major points. The stew was light yet rich, thanks to the coconut milk base -- not heavy at all. The flavors were so well-balanced, and the hint of cilantro with a squeeze of lemon made it absolutely perfect. It's like their own rendition of Cioppino. My husband ordered the rockfish tacos and said they were excellent, moist, generous portions of fish, and well-balanced flavors. Wow this was some delicious Mexican food. We liked it so much we went both nights. I thought this was fairly solid Mexican food. I'm an expert and everything from the beans to the meat was delicious. They charged us $10 to grill our shrimp on our tacos instead of fried, and the owner sitting at the bar hollered out to us and said they up charge for that, and the reason they up charge is because there is more shrimp in a taco when you get it grilled vs. fried. "There is a loss of volume in the taco so the chef must add more shrimp" so, only one taco had four shrimp and the other two had 3. So, I got one extra shrimp for $5 and so did my friend for an additional $5. So either the tacos normally come with two, or three shrimp? I never got a straight answer, and the server had no idea how many tacos came on the plate. It is partly her responsibility to know those things but I completely blame management for poor training and mismanagement of consistency. No wonder this place is always empty. read more

We were looking for lunch in the harbor area and the first place we went had a long line so we headed across the street to Casa Del Sol. I had looked at the reviews and was looking forward to a vacation lunch with a margarita but they have changed their alcoholic offerings since those reviews were written- they only offer a limited selection of beer and wine now. This fabulous dish combined perfectly cooked broccoli, fabulous rice, a gigantic amount of black cod mixed harmoniously with a Romesco Sauce. We have amazing food on the coast and I've tried some dishes that moved me... none more than this one. I visited on Valentine's Day with my parents. Wow, what a killer menu! Every appetizer looked amazing - we went with the bean dip this time and were very happy with our choice. The beans were sooooo flavorful, and all of the toppings made it seem like deluxe nachos. Pictured are my entree, the enchiladas suizas, and my mom's, the lemon caper rock cod. This place is amazing!!! The food is fresh, colorful and delicious. The people who work here are always with a smile and great us when we enter the door. They are quick, attentive and overall just nice. The place is smaller than other places BUT bright in color and comfortable. 1. I was happy to see Casa Del Sol open for lunch on a Tuesday, as I was staying in Noyo Harbor and Princess Seafood is closed on Tuesdays. 2. A casual, non-assuming bar and restaurant across from Sea Pal. Casa Del Sol not only serves up Mexican and Latin American food, but also local favorites like fish and chips. 3. They have a three picnic tables outside and all of the staff wear facemasks and require customers to also do so when not eating/drinking. 4. Like most of the restaurants in Noyo Harbor, they only have a beer and wine license and I believe their cocktails are made with Soju, so not tequila. And, again, like many restaurants in Noyo Harbor, the wine list is forgettable. However, Casa Del Sol has a great selection of craft beer. 5. I asked to sit outside and was told I had to order at the bar because they did not offer table service outside. I was disappointed by that, but, c'est la vie. I'm sure they're understaffed like so many restaurants right now! 6. It was Taco Tuesday and they have a huge menu outside filled with taco specials. I had read on Yelp that the shrimp tacos were great - so I ordered those. Two for $10. 7. The shrimp tacos were DELICIOUS. I ordered them beer battered. They were buttery and fresh. The beautiful tacos were served on flour tortillas with mango, cabbage, jalapenos (diced) and a wonderful spicy chipotle sauce. Hands down two of the best tacos I've had! We wanted to try some nearby seafood restaurants but everything was 1hr wait so we decided to give this place a try. Margaritas is strong and not so much of your typical refreshing ice cold drink. It's more of a signature drink. We order seafood platters and two bajah fish taco. 1 bowl of clam Chowder. We love the seafood platter. It's was fresh and so good. I had the Baja tacco on the special menu. It's was good. Only 2 taco is fulfilling of this size fish taco. Service was great and they were very nice to let us and some customer sit about 15min before they were about to close the restaurants. We have come here many times and the first two times were absolutely incredible, minus our server. Every time we come here we are aware our server does not want to be there and just accept him as he is. It only interfered during our first visit, but the food made up for it all. The food however is the worst we have had here, it was actually bad and we were very surprised at just how bad it actually was. My lady decided tonight was the night to go there because its "Taco Tuesday", what a monumental mistake that was considering she is a pasta lover. We order a Calamari app and Baja Tacos, Steak Tacos and her seafood pasta for dinner. None of it was good, let alone as perfect as it was the previous 5 times we had tried. We come down here once a month for work and every single time I would fight to the death if anyone said the food was bad..... but this time it was. The food was awful. I asked the waitress who rang us out if it was a new Chef and she quickly said "no it wasn't". She asked me why I asked that and I refrained from delving deeper. I am not trying to make a scene or put her in a rough spot. This review is very long because I am conflicted and had to spell it all out. I placed this restaurant top 5 of all time for me and I have traveled all over the world. The first few times we attended it was absolutely incredible food, Michelin star status. This last visit was just awful. The scallops were not seared but rubbery and cold. The Baja tacos were sauce-less and had next to no cook on them. No toppings. NO mango salsa like on our 5+ visits. It was essentially a piece of fish on a corn tortilla and that was it... the steak tacos were even worse. The steak was leather, the tortillas were not cooked and everything was cold. The best thing on the plate was the cold pickled veggies. Until they find a chef who cares about the quality or a server who wants to be there, I cannot recommend it. Last year around may- Sept I would have recommended it to everyone. Best fish tacos of my life, but as of now its a hard pass. The price you would pay for quality food does not align with the food that arrives at your table here (anymore). Sometimes, you can take a risk when ordering a veggie burrito. At some places, it's basically just a burrito minus the meat, AKA pretty much just rice and beans and maybe some lettuce. Boring. But not at Casa Del Sol! I was super impressed with their veggie burrito! It's actually a California veggie burrito, so it's got fries inside too, but not sad shoe-string fries, really thick hearty fries that you can actually taste. But that's not all! It has zucchini, carrots, and peppers! Yum! Plus, topped off with guacamole, pickled onions, and pico de gallo. You will not go wrong ordering a veggie burrito here - it will be full of flavor! I came during COVID times, so indoor dining was closed, but I ordered takeout over the phone and it was ready within 10 minutes. They did have a number of spaced out picnic tables outside, but I opted to take my burrito a quick drive to the headlands for a nice little view to accompany my lunch. This place is such a gem! I was lucky enough to dine here the weekend before the governor closed all indoor dining again. We were craving some Mexican food after a lovely day at the beach and decided try out Casa del Sol. It's in a bit of an unusual location, it's on a dock off a rather steep ramp down by the water. There was a little lot to park in. The dining room was clean and the waitress had us wait outside while she sanitized a table. She was masked while serving us and I felt safe. All of us were thoroughly impressed by the food! Everyone loved their meal. I had the chicken enchiladas with no beans and it was absolutely delicious. The white meat chicken was tender, very well seasoned, and there was plenty stuffed inside the enchiladas. There was the perfect amount of rich cheese that was complimented by the fresh acidity of the green tomatillo sauce. It was topped with quest fresco, sour cream, and I think pickled onions. The rice was just ok, well cooked but was not as flavorful as I'd like. I didn't get black beans but the others said theirs were tasty. All the portions were quite large and a reasonable price. Service was a bit slow but very friendly. We are so glad we chose Casa del Sol. It satisfied our cravings and I would definitely eat here again the next time I'm in the area. read more

We stopped by here for some appetizers in late afternoon. We actually originally came to Princess, but they were closed. I was craving some oysters and figured we would give this place a try! We opted to sit outside at some picnic tables, but ordered inside. The server was friendly and understanding when I told him we were only ordering apps. The weather was nice outside and they have a few large picnic tables. I love fresh oysters and these did not disappoint. They were shucked nicely and the sauce was tangy and went well with the oysters. We also got a bowl of clam chowder. That was hearty and perfect for the cooler weather. Detailed Review: Location: This place is located in Noyo Harbor and is towards the back end of the harbor. They have a dedicated parking space with a decent amount of spots. We had no trouble parking here. Restaurant: The restaurant was clean and nicely decorated. Sort of looked like a mix of a modern cafe and restaurant. I enjoyed the atmosphere here. Service: Waitresses here were extremely nice and was attentive throughout the meal. Water/Drinks came out quickly and were refilled when low. Food was also brought to us relatively quickly after we ordered the meal. Great service. Thank you! What we ordered: 1.) Enchiladas Suizas with Chicken ($19) - Pretty large portion size as they give you 3 Enchiladas with a good amount of Rice/Beans. Again the food is decent but I didn't find anything memorable. The rice and beans were nothing special and felt like something I could prepare myself. The chicken enchiladas were better and did taste pretty good with the green sauce over it. 2.) Fish Taco Plate ($17) - Same Rice and Beans as the Enchiladas Suizas so nothing extra to talk about here. The fish tacos tasted a bit bland and my girlfriend had to put a lot of salt / pepper seasoning to give it more flavor and more of a punch. We didn't particular enjoy this dish. After bringing our drink orders, the waitress announced they were closing in 15 minutes. On recommendation of a local friend, we dropped in to Casa Del Sol for a birthday dinner last night. If you're looking for big flavors in a cozy & unpretentious dining spot, then look no further. We found the experience to be fantastic (with only one small reservation). Casa Del Sol is right in the heart of Noyo Harbor, surrounded by still working fishing boats and gear and also the remnants of what used to be ground zero for commercial fishing in Northern California. Indoor & outdoor seating is available (picnic benches outside). Inside you'll find a relaxed, cafe vibe. There's bar seating as well as tables. The walls are painted in festive colors, and the whole place felt cozy and welcoming on a cold foggy night. We were told to sit wherever we wanted (and social distancing was possible even with several parties already seated). There's a food menu and separate drinks menu. Lots of Mexican options with tacos, burritos, enchiladas, and ceviches. But also some great options like a coconut-based Brazilian seafood stew, an étouffée with andouille, and classic cioppino. It makes sense that seafood plays a starring role in a lot of dishes. The cuisine doesn't fit neatly into one category, but seems to have a Mexican, Latino, Italian vibe going on. We were hungry and celebrating, so we went with a cup of their 3-mushroom soup special (delicious and rich), a fried clam strips starter (tasty but wished they were whole-belly clams), and for mains we got a New York strip steak over steamed vegetables and the cioppino. The presentation of both dishes was spectacular. My hubby found his steak to be cooked to his request (medium rare) and his request for extra veggies instead of mashed potatoes was not a hassle. My cioppino came in a massive bowl, and the waitress brought everything needed for a messy meal (extra napkins, a bowl for shells, and a small shellfish fork). The cioppino broth was a deeply flavorful and slightly spicy tomato base that had onions, red bell peppers, and what tasted like fennel that was stewed into the sauce. The cioppino had shrimp, local rock cod, scallops, mussels, and clams (surprisingly, no crab though). All the seafood was perfectly cooked and delicious. The bowl came with two buttery slices of grilled bread to help sop up the flavorful tomato stew. We were both fully stuffed and happy by the end of the meal, and I had to throw in the towel before finishing all the delicious tomato broth. Absolutely delicious food and great time dining out. But here's my reservation: As I said we were celebrating a birthday and just happened to order the most expensive items on the menu (steak $27 and cioppino $33). With drinks (beer and wine) and the starters plus 20% tip we dropped over $130 on dinner for two. No big deal. But the restaurant is directly next to all the seafood coming into the area, so I would expect either somewhat better pricing so close to the source or at least a bit more seafood in the bowl, especially since the most expensive part of cioppino (crab) was absent. Considering the excellent service, flavors, presentation, and location in a tourist area, I suppose the prices are to be expected. Regardless, this was a fantastic meal out. Unbelievably bad, bland, and expensive. I visited when they first opened and the few things I ordered seemed very good. I don't know changed? It seemed as if they really didn't want to make the effort. This was a recent takeout order. Clam chowder: Was the best item. It had nice flavor and didn't taste like flour like all of the other Fort Bragg restaurants' clam chowders do. The downside was the clams were small and chewy, as if they came out of a can and were added too soon in the cooking process. When you use clam meats that small you add them last, stir, and remove from heat. Little River Inn has the best clam chowder in the area. French Fries: not bland. Oversalted. No ketchup. Caesar salad: The croutons were little tiny squares of dry bread. They didn't seem to have any seasonings nor to be toasted. The shredded parmesan cheese seemed to be pre-purchased and not freshly shredded on-site. There were a lot of romaine leaf ribs. The add-on chicken was overcooked and dry. The chef's dressing, which is a code word for your not getting Caesar salad dressing, was the creamy kind. Romaine lettuce + some shredded cheese + some itty bitty croutons + dressing that isn't Caesar salad dressing does not make a Caesar salad. Cole Slaw: Bland. Fixed it with a little salt, vinegar, and hot sauce. Taco Plate: The fish tacos were so so. They put lettuce instead of cabbage on them. The lettuce wilts next to the heat of the fish. Cabbage is a much better choice and it adds crunch. No taco sauce. The black beans were just plain is if they had been dumped from a can. The rice was plain also. Yet another hidden gem in the industrial area near Noyo river. You'll swear you've taken a wrong turn as you head down the hill to the marina area but rest assured, you're on the right path. Casa Del Sol is a small restaurant with plain and dated tables and chairs, but everything is amazingly clean and well cared for. The food was phenomenal on all fronts. Fajitas, fish tacos, burger, caesar salad and chicken fingers for our finicky eater, were all fantastic. A full bar complements the food. We had the owner serve us. He obviously takes a lot of pride as we watched him hand polish every single glass before placing them behind the bar. Highly recommend this place whether for lunch or dinner. read more
