No prices shown when at the restaurant...

The prices on the menus on Yelp are different then what they are at the restaurant. The menus at the front counter have the prices blacked out. The manager said they are updating menus. I told them they are basically bait and switching customers at this point. At least state "market price" on the menus versus having crossed out price from a marker. No complaints on the food, ceviche was good!

    Black shrimp cocktail 5 stars!

This place is a gem!! Seafood is so fresh and everything is prepared perfectly. The entire staff makes you feel very comfortable and everyone talks to you. We had the black shrimp cocktail which was the best I have ever had! Cilantro, avocado, cucumbers, onions, and an amazing mixture of spices. Looking forward to trying the red and another time the green one! I could only eat half of it. $16.99, worth every penny. We also ordered 3 types of tacos to get the "flavor" of the place: Mahi, Golden, and Playita special shrimp taco. The Playita was my favorite, but all exceptional. They make their own agua fresca and horchata! You like seafood? You crave flavor!! You MUST go!! Everything is perfectly cooked. Huge parking lot, right across the street from Vallarta at Newhall and Apple.

Margarita all gone. Sorry I forgot to add photo before I finished all of it. So good.

I had the mojarra Frita and it was served with everything on it. It had a fried Serrano, grilled onion, rice, and beans and a side of homemade corn tortillas. It was delicious. My husband had the 7 mares and it was great. Packed with seafood. Miguel was very attentive and provided great service. I ordered the large margarita which was perfect. Don't get the small.

I believe this place recently opened. Food was excellent! Everything we ordered took a bit of time coming out but worth the wait. I'm so happy we finally have a Mexican seafood restaurant out here in SCV. We will be back!

    Mixed shrimp cocktail!

Finally able to try a new place in the neighborhood and the food was worth the wait. La Playita opened a month ago and serves delicious Mexican seafood. Wife and I had the mixed shrimp cocktail and 3 tacos - breaded shrimp, breaded fish (her favorite) and the "governor taco". I liked everything! Tacos were good size and the seafood portions in the cocktail were ample. They serve chips and beans instead of chips and salsa which was a nice change and the beans are delicious! I enjoyed the decor and everything was clean. Lots of seating, plenty of parking and comfortable ambiance. Service was also great... hats off to Jose for the recommendations, smiles a welcoming vibe. Will definitely be back.

I must say I'm a huge fan of seafood, I'm a little biased when it comes to the flavoring of what good seafood is. For starters I decided to take a stroll and have a high protein low calorie meal and I thought seafood could be perfect. I guess I bumped into opening day. I was greeted instantly and had the freedom to sit where I please. My server Juliana was an extremely polite and attentive server. I was given these chips and pico de gallo which to my surprise was not spicy and greatly appreciated because they also served me a salsa that had a light kick to it which you can add to your pico de gallo for those who like spicy. I decided to order the "Cóctel de Camarón" and was nervous but it was recommended by my server and I gave it a shot. The shrimp was delicious, the avocado was perfectly ready, but as we all know the broth is what matters most. So it was an okay broth. It was a little too soupy and I could taste more of the Clamato than I could the ketchup and perhaps the Worcestershire sauce. I loved that it wasn't spicy though most should come a bit spicy. However they provide a ketchup and tapatío sauce. (I would prefer perhaps a hot sauce from Nayarit) The ambiance is very upbeat, with Spanish music and TVs in the background. All employees were friendly and making sure everyone's needs were met. Unfortunately I couldn't check out the restroom, but since I would like to give other food on the menu a chance, I'll take a look when I come back ;) wishing this business all the best!

Food: the Tostada was amazing, this is the right place for fresh seafood, service is pretty slow, watters delivered to our tables in 10 minutes , beans and chips 18 mins. Food 38 minutes and My tacos were cold and tasteless, and we couldn't find the shrimp in the quesadilla Governador.

Slightly out of budget for myself but a really unique menu makes up for it. I'll take a couple more people here to try new food

I ordered a Ceviche bowl and the fish taco. For a light lunch. The flavor was good. Service was good. It was a little pricey but fresh.

They are a bit out of our way, and while good, nothing there was so spectacular that I would make a special trip for it, but it was good. They are located in a strip mall location, very non-descript, and the build out is basic but clean. My daughter had described it as a "hole in the wall, but good food" restaurant. That's pretty accurate. We were greeted immediately and in a very friendly manner as soon as we entered. It seemed slow for a Friday night, but we were on the early side. We were seated at a table and brought water, chips and salsa right away. The salsa is thin and spicy, and had a good tasted to it. My wife ordered a Cadillac margarita, and I ordered a regular. The drinks were a generous pour, and they didn't scrimp on the tequila. The Grand Marnier was brought in a shot glass. Both my wife and I enjoyed our drinks. My chile relleno combo was very good, some of the biggest freakin' chiles I've seen. They tasted great and were served piping hot with rice and beans. We were visited several times by ownership. The service was top rate and very friendly. So...not enough for me to return, but that's only because of distance from our house. We have our usual place 3 minutes away, but that doesn't mean it wouldn't be a first choice for you.

I only saw a bar tender who doubled as a server, and one busman in the front of house. I don't know how many were in the back, but this explains why the wait was so very long. Once seated, it was another 15 minutes to get our orders in. Once the food arrived, it was served hot as expected. My friend's chicken chipotle was delicious but my birria wasn't great. There wasn't much of it, and what was there was largely tasteless. I was given two tortillas which wasn't enough. Their salsa was outstanding though! I wanted more of that and practically drank it. Unfortunately, given my experiences, I won't go back. Management needs to hire some employees so the wait won't be so long.

(It did look like they had heaters outside though - not too sure if they were turned on). We were seated around 7:40 and we had two waiters. We asked what the margarita flavors of the day were, and they had hibiscus, jicama cucumber, and a jalapeño pineapple. I opted for the jalapeño pineapple, while my partner got the Sabor. For appetizers we ordered the trio dip and taquitos. For entrees, we ordered the al pastor street tacos, and Enchiladas Sabor. For dessert we ordered the nutella filled churros. I believe our bill was around $135. Pros: everything came out so quickly! Drinks were LARGE. Timing of the food: Drinks were out in five minutes, appetizers in ten mins of ordering, and entrees in fifteen minutes of ordering. The service was also great. Our waiter came in and checked on us, but wasn't overbearing. The quality of the food was also great. I kept saying everything felt very elevated and a great place to go for a nice dinner. I did not do any research before coming here. This was a place that my partner chose, so the two comments that I made (which I later found out was also commonly noted on Yelp) was that the Chips & Salsa were not free, and that my enchiladas did not come with rice and beans. Typically, when I go out for Mexican food, there are certain things I look forward to, so I was a little thrown off that they weren't provided here. The trio dip was a great option because it did have a bean dip as well as salsa, but it was just a bummer that it was an extra charge. Overall: great service, quality of food, very efficient, and plenty of parking.
