    Tamale covered in sour cream

I ordered two tamales. But they served them on a plate COVERED in sour cream. It was so much that I had to scoop it off. They usually just serve it to me in a to go bag without sour cream but today, they for some reason drenched it in sour cream. It kind of seems like it was done on purpose so I wouldn't come back. This experience put a bad taste in my mouth.

Love this place for tacos! Today is taco Tuesday where el pastor tacos are 50 % off! My boyfriend loves the el pastor tacos . I love the quesabirria... nice chunks of stewed beef and crunch taco shell. Today was not as crunchy as before but still delicious.

Their horchata is very strong on its flavor and not watery at all! Which is an A+ !! Their menu prices are also very decent as it sounds reasonable for the items. I ordered a quesadilla with birria meat and it was honestly exactly as I had expected it to be. Nothing too fancy but hit the spot. One thing though that kind put me off the mood on the quesadilla was that i had a WHOLE BAY LEAF ! And took a bite and ate it sadly as i didnt notice till i was half into the bay leaf! Lol. Im Glad they season well although please make sure this does not happen again to any other customers ! :) besides that customer service was amazing and the wait time was no longer than 5 minutes.

La Plaza is a small Mexican market located on a pretty busy crossing in Mountain View. We have driven by for years, but needed some chiptoles in adobo we stopped on in First off there is plenty of parking. There as many have noted is a lot across the street. It has a decent selection of sundry items, plus what you would normally expect from any supermarket. Most importantly for us, It had our chiptoles. It has a pretty extensive butcher shop and a small but well stocked fresh section. We did not try the colocated eatery but will be back for sure

Taco Tuesday, Carnitas... this Mexican market is the real deal. Love the food & ambiance

I like coming here for the tacos. Especially taco tuesdays or any time they have a special deal. The other day happened to be National Taco Day where they had a special on tacos for $1.25. A pretty great deal when you can feed two people for $10 dollars. I have never been inside the supermarket but one day, I would like to wander in and browse around.

We only picked out a stable: American wagyu. The meat looked pretty good with marble through out. Surprisingly when put in hot pot it shrinks into a wrinkly ball and also turned black. I have never seen a meat like that (also we only buy hot pot meat at Nijya and their quality is great). Taste wise the meat was quite tough and stringy and has a gamy metallic after taste. In the pictures the kighter hotpot meat is from costco and the black ones is from Meat House. Costco one tasted much better. At this point im not even upset about the money spent just upset that our hot pot night was kind of ruined. Service is ok. Kind of straight forward. You picked the meat and pay and leave. This was definitely huge sticker shock for me because I'm usd to getting mine from Safeway or Costco where they are less than half the price, but at least we were supporting a local business. They had a good selection of other meats including different seasoned bacons, marinated chickens, sausage, among other stuff. It usually takes me two and a half hours but hey I get to see my friends and drop in on Dittmer's. I usually buy the smoked ham hocks because I am addicted to a Cuban black bean soup. I have tried smoked ham hocks from other sources, but the results were so bad that I threw out the soup. The only place I have found that has true smoked ham hocks is Dittmer's. I noticed the price of ham hocks has gone up. But many of the other prices have held steady. The store remains neatly organized and is spic and span. It's kind of what you would expect from a German shop. Carlo's black bean soup from All around the world cookbook by Sheila Lukins. Totally worth a 2.5 hour drive. 2 pounds of black beans Quarter cup olive oil 3 cups, diced onions Eight cloves of garlic, bruised and peeled. One smoked ham hock 6 quarts water 2 tablespoons +1 teaspoons ground cumin 1 tablespoon dried oregano Three bay leaves. 2 teaspoons freshly ground black pepper Pinch of cayenne 6 tablespoons chopped flat leaf parsley 6 tablespoons chopped fresh cilantro leaves. 1 teaspoon salt Two medium red bell peppers, diced reserve a quarter of a cup for the garnish Quarter cup dry sherry 1 tablespoon pack of brown sugar 1 tablespoon fresh lime juice. One cup of crème fraîche or sour cream. Soak the beans overnight, drain and rinse. Heat the oil over low heat and sweat the onions and garlic, about 10 minutes. Add the beans with the ham and the water to a large pot. Stir in the 2 tablespoons cumin, the oregano, bay leaves, black pepper, cayenne, and 2 tablespoons each of the parsley in cilantro. Bring to a boil, then simmer, uncovered until the beans are very tender and the liquid is reduced by about 3/4. This will take about one and a half to two hours. Transfer the bone to a plate and let it cool slightly. shred the meat and return it to the pot. Stir in the remaining 4 tablespoons parsley, 2 tablespoons cilantro, salt, and all except 1/4 of a cup of the bell peppers, the remaining 1 tablespoon cumin, the sherry, brown sugar and, lime juice. Simmer another 30 minutes, stirring frequently. Adjust the seasoning and serve hot. Garnish with a dollop of crème fraîche and a sprinkling of the diced peppers and chopped cilantro. Eight large servings or 12 small portions.

This one was disappointing enough to feel worth documenting. My boyfriend and I ended up here after attempting to go to Treehouse nearby (which had an hour wait--unsurprising given the concept). This restaurant was a short walk away, which actually worked out well given how congested the area was, and we walked in optimistic. The space itself is very large, but nearly empty for a weekday evening. It felt family-owned and casual, which I usually love--many of my favorite restaurants fall into that category. Unfortunately, the experience didn't reflect that warmth. We were given a different menu than other diners, which immediately felt odd. Service wasn't overtly rude, but it was noticeably unwelcoming--almost a "why are you here?" tone rather than hospitality. We ordered hummus and feta, both of which were surprisingly expensive for the portion and quality. We were told bread would arrive automatically with the hummus, but it didn't--despite asking multiple times. When it finally arrived, it was poorly cooked and no longer served any purpose, as we were already well into the meal. Despite the restaurant being far from busy, our mains took about 30 minutes. One dish--a kebab--was fine but very forgettable for a $30+ price point. My dish, dumplings in a yogurt-based sauce, was honestly inedible. I left it untouched and mentioned that it didn't taste good. The response was simply, "Oh, so you don't want a box?" No attempt to fix the issue or even acknowledge it. What sealed it for me was the overall condition of the place. Dirty cutlery, a generally rundown interior, and a lack of attention to cleanliness made it uncomfortable to eat there. I'm not picky about ambiance when the food and service deliver--but here, nothing quite worked together. The whole experience felt very turn-and-burn, as if the restaurant relies on proximity to a popular area rather than repeat customers. I left feeling like unless you're part of a specific in-crowd, this isn't a place that's trying very hard to win you over. Personally, I wouldn't return, and I wouldn't recommend it--especially given the pricing and the many better options nearby.
