I especially like their location on 11th Street, just right across from the Tracy City Hall. I've passed through La Costa multiple times, but have never had the opportunity to try this place until now. They have a dine-in and take-out option -- both ideal for the occasions at hand. They are quick, efficient, and will modify your order based on your needs. The ambiance of the restaurant is also very spacious -- lots of tables and fresh air, since they're pretty much outdoors. It depends on what protein you are trying, but I really like their shrimp tacos. They're one of the best tacos I've tried at any taqueria thus far. I dream about their shrimp tacos. The el pastor ones, too. The shrimp has just the right level of spice and the pastor has just the right hint of char and pineapply goodness. With a slice of avocado, they are taco perfection. I typically get three tacos for me, two carne asada for my sister, and a burrito for my brother-in-law and we to all end things satisfied. I've never had a dish there I didn't like Sometimes I wish they had more indoor seating. OK, first of all let me say I've been eating off and on at this original spot for years and have to say honestly they have one of the best tacos, ceviche, tostadas, and burritos and the whole valley. The only issue that we've ever had here was it was cash only in the past But now being I was just there today that has changed now they take credit card much better ambience is just a nice little taco shop. They have a few that I know of and Tracy Manteca and Brentwood. I'm sure there might be others but these are the ones I've been to The family that owns. Years ago we used to go to the Manteca location but wife works near here and decided to give it a try. It was crowded but we the service was good and we got our food extremely fast. They have mostly outside sitting and it was a bit hot but they have plenty of shaded sitting area. I had the orchard and tacos of different types. Lengua tacos were pretty good but I have had better Al pastor. Carne asada was good and wife's asada burrito was also good with nice flavor of beans and rice and loaded with beef. Once upon a time in a galaxy very close to Tracy........... La Costa was a great place to buy food and eat! I have gone here for 25 years and feel they have been decaying, declining, whatever you want to say! A month ago I bought a tostada de civeche de cameron for 7 dollars a tostada!!! LOL. The shrimp was not very well cleaned, it still had some yellow to it and if you know how to clean shrimp, you know what I'm talking about. The to go cup looks smaller! Yet when I go to La Mexicana and buy a tostada de cameron... it is significanlty more fulfilling and cheaper now! When I go to Modesto and buy ceviche the price has not changed as dramatic as La Costa and get more from them! In addition, I don't buy burritos from them anymore which was a staple for them back in the late 1990's and early 2000's! It seems like Los Potros and La Mexicana have been providing burritos which are more fulfilling and yet more consitent in price and I ask you why do La Costa's burritos look significantly smaller than these other places who are providing food around the same price!!! La Mexicana just recently expanded in Mountain House and I have been using them for catering on a consistent basis! La Costa, good luck making it in Tracy. I asked my daughter to get me an Al pastor burrito, she and my grandson had an asada Burrito. It wasn't great at all, First off unlike other places, they wrapped it neatly. My Al pastor burrito didn't have taste at all. Thirdly, there's not much meat in there. There's more rice, onion, no cilantro, sour cream. There's a tiny piece of pineapple. A cash-only establishment! The last time I visited was a few years back, and it seems since then their indoor dining area has been (and is still) closed likely due to the impacts of COVID-19. They're located at a corner on 11th Street right by Tracy High and have pretty decent outdoor dining areas, although it seems these don't get cleaned very well or often. I was able to try their al pastor quesadilla and tacos, both of which tasted pretty flavorful and were mixed in with pineapples which I enjoyed! + Quesadilla Al Pastor (3/5): It was super soggy and was shaped essentially as an open burrito, so it was pretty difficult to eat. There wasn't much cheese as I would've expected, as the cheese was basically made into a crust onto the tortilla. + Tacos Al Pastor (3.5/5): Also very soggy, but the marinade was still pretty flavorful. Keep in mind this location is located next to Tracy High. It can be very busy during the school year during lunch time, so plan accordingly. The food here wasn't bad. I ordered 3 tacos - pastor, asada, and lengua. My main gripe was that it was doused in so much salsa that you'd think they'd be hiding something and it's all you tasted. The asada taco is what you'd expect - chopped up meat, salsa roja, corn tortilla. It was good, but just ordinary. The lengua was also standard as well. However, I was glad that it wasn't overstewed. The lengua still had some bite to it but definitely lacked seasoning. All I tasted was the salsa verde. The al pastor was the most unique of the 3. The marinade had a different flare than the pastor at other shops. The flavor of the chiles stood out more than your typical shop. Overall, La Costa isn't bad, but isn't wow either. That was still worth it too though lol. I'm hella glad we found our new go to mexican food spot in Tracy. They now have lifetime customers.
