Came here when they opened (1130am) on a Sunday before going to El Campanil Theatre. Was not crowded, as anticipated that early but was greeted warmly and upbeat by Lidia! So sweet!! We ordered a carnitas burrito with guacamole and the Grande Combination plate with a ground beef enchilada, pork tamale and a chicken taco. The burrito was massive and the carnitas was superb! Often large burritos are "over riced" for filler but not this one. The combo plate was in fact "grande!" All items were more than shareable and came to the table piping hot. All the meats tasted unique, not just similar taste profiles of different meats. Spiced and sauced individually. Can't wait to go again!! read more

My husband and I came here Fri around 5pm on Cinco De Mayo. We knew it was probably going to be crowded, but didn't expect it to be so packed that early!! The hostess asked us if we had a reservation, but we didn't, so they put us at a high top table across from the bar. It took about 5-10 mins for Lidia to come by to take our drink & food order since it seemed like she was also bartending. We were happy to see Sierra Nevada Hazy beer on the draft menu, so we both got one $8 ea. They brought out Chips/Salsa which were good, but the homemade chips were kind of cold & hard. For our meals I got the Super Burrito w/ Chicken $12.99 added Guacamole $2.99 My husband got the #14 dinner which was supposed to be 2 Chicken Chimichangas with Rice/Beans $16.99 Unfortunately, when his plate arrived it looked more like 2 Flautas, but the waitress said it was correct. My super burrito was just that! It was almost the length of my forearm!! The food & service was all good. They had a lady DJ playing music on the stage, there was even a few people dancing. Three stars, in my book, is pretty good. You do not have much, if anything, to complain about but there is nothing spectacular about it. I really hoped this would be great. They still have the baseball themed bar and tables of Bases Loaded and it is a great space. The only thing that stands out as better than most Mexican restaurants is the beer. Everything else is ok but not outstanding. And then there is the salsa. I know I am not being charged directly for that but you pay for it anyway. It was so watery that getting a chip from bowl to mouth without splattering it would be hard. And the taste was poor. I asked (non aggressively) our server about this. Oh that is the way they did it but they would be glad to make something better on request. If Cochina Medina were not so close I might be more inclined to try this again. read more

This place is terrible for food and service. The food had mold in it. And the rice and beans were old and reused. The service was horrible. One waitress and one bartender. No smiles very rude. The bartender ignored me to the point that I slammed my hands on the bar and told her she was unacceptable and rude. Just because I had cash and she wanted bank cards where they can get the extra cash charges. I walked away angry. I was in a fashion show and couldn't leave or I would have. This place is horrible. This location has been through some changes over the years - it was Bases Loaded sports bar for awhile, a soul food restaurant for a short period of time, and now La Plazuela. The owners here are very hands on and make sure you are happy! I don't understand a couple of the bad reviews - I'm wondering if they weren't planted ("moldy food"??? Come on!!) This place isn't great. Weird vibe. Used to be a sports bar and they never changed the decor ....so the vibe is confusing. We've been waiting for the latest Pandemic wave to settle (indoor masking for restaurants in CoCo County lifted 2.16.22) and today was the day! The weather couldn't have been better and what a way to kick off Presidents' Day weekend. The Fiesta Spirit was "on" immediately as we were seated. It was hard to leave! Awesome mix of Mexican music (not too loud or soft). I asked about possible Mariachis in the future for that nice stage they have (maybe soon-Cinco de Mayo would be perfect!). The lady servers took excellent care of us from start to finish including recommendations! Ordered Mango Margaritas (on the rocks); a Fajita Mixta; an A-1 Combo: Chile Relleno, Crispy Taco (chose chicken), and Enchilada (chose shredded beef); and for dessert: a Peach Margarita (blended) with Chamoy rimmed with Tajin/Salt, and Sopapilla (tortilla strips topped with vanilla ice cream, drizzled with honey, and sprinkled with cinnamon).
