I'd probably give Drouant 3.5 stars. Started with the leeks and butternut squash soup. Leeks were good. Felt very French. The soup was good but it was very lukewarm when it arrived which diminished the taste. Had the mushroom ravioli (tortellini) and it was good. Not amazing, but solidly good. The sauce is broth. Also had the veal shank. I'd definitely skip this. Came out pretty rare/raw, and was very bland. Not worth it. The staff was very kind and attentive. But almost too attentive. Hovering a bit. But they were lovely. Their cocktail list is excellent. I'd go back to sit at the bar and get a drink but I probably wouldn't eat dinner there again. The restaurant is lovely. The staff is cordial and well trained. The food execution is another story. My first Filet, ordered rare, came out gray, so I sent it back, to be replaced by a medium cooked steak that was small and tasteless. The pasta was good as was the fish ordered by another at my table. So, my recommendation is to not order the 44 Euro Filet. You will be disappointed. Great wine list. My fiancée brought me here to celebrate our engagement in Paris, and I was so proud of him (he knows how much good food means to me, and he did his research to find the perfect place!) Drouant is definitely upscale dining, and although our total bill came to around €245, it was worth the 5 stars and the experience! From coat check, to a sommelier providing perfect wine pairings, to a bread basket that was never empty, the service at Drouant alone earned it 5 stars. However, the food was also impeccable and I was so excited for the opportunity to have celebratory caviar (only €35!!!), whereas in the US it often costs $100+! I will also say that even though we ordered both appetizers and entrees, I appreciated that everything here is offered á la carte, because often restaurants in Paris will require a 2-3 course menu. By ordering a la carte, you can definitely save some money here and there--the most expensive part of our bill was the wine (€30 a glass, oof) but there are also cheaper options as well. For dinner, we started with the caviar (Baerii d'Aquitaine) which was a good "caviar for newbies" and the stracciatella cheese. For dinner, I was a bit disappointed because the night we visited, they were out of the linguine with blue lobster which I really wanted to try, but instead I opted for the risotto (piping hot and amazing flavor!) and my fiancée had the beef fillet (the black pepper sauce was incredible). By dessert, we were too stuffed to try anything--but I am sure they have some amazing options if the other food we had was any indicator of its quality! Overall, Drouant is absolutely worthy of its Michelin nods and a wonderful choice for a standout dinner experience. read more

The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because my husband didn't like his dish had a pile of spinach underneath. Found this on trip advisor and yelp. Reviews were good. At one time it was even Michelin rated. Inside it's upscale, yet cozy and intimate. We had an appetizer, 2 entrees, and dessert. The foie gras was amazing. (I know it's inhumane and I'm going to hell but we were in Paris...). Entrees were the duck and fillet. GET THE DUCK! It was awesome. I'm from texas so I'm spoiled when it comes to beef. If you're from texas don't get the fillet it is tough for a fillet. ( plus they need to sharpen the steak knives). The flavor was good though. I wish the fries had more of a potato taste and not so thin and a little on the greasy side. Still though it was a great meal. And for dessert we got the millefeuille. The restaurant was very accommodating in hosting a large party with no reservations on last-minute notice. We were greeted with a settled welcome and a pleasant coat check-in service. Utter failure. Perhaps the worst restaurant experience I have ever had. We arrived early for our reservation and we're seated immediately. The sommelier was helpful is self the right bottle. The service was a bit slow but unremarkable. We opened a nice bottle and received our starters in a reasonable amount of time. And then the kitchen seemed to grind to a halt. We awaited for almost 90 minutes for our mains. We comfortably finished our bottle of wine while waiting. We were not the only ones. Other irate customers, after waiting a similar length of time, led without receiving their mains. After about 75 mins, we asked for some timeline guidance. 10-15 mins later, the sommelier returned to advise us that he could not say when we would receive our food. At that point, we requested the check and ended our fruitless wait. The restaurant deducted 20% from our bill for the wine and alls we did receive. That's something, but it doesn't make up for the utter shit show that was dinner at Drouant. Good apps. Good wine. Unable to serve dinner. Avoid this clown show. Drouant - if you'll do the right thing and refund me, I'll update the review to reflect that action. read more

My husand and I were looking forward to come to this restaurant. We searched menu, studied course. Like many reviews said, caviar was good choice, and langoustine was fabulous. But Steak! Someone said "Get the duck!" We should have ordered duck. Steak doesn't have flavor as much as we expected like a steak house. And they do need sharper steak nife. But service was super delicate in a good way. We were satisfied. Oh and they have good wine list. We didn't need to spend thousands to pair wine. They did know how to handle wine. read more

They know nothing about the hospitality side of restaurant business. After my meal started they seated a father with very young, very loud child next to me. Refused to move me (even though it is not my fault). I had to pay a fortune for the "privilege" of enduring an almost two hour long tantrum. Servers and management completely ignored my pleas to be assisted but everyone else with misbehaving loud children is fine? If the management is reading this I would appreciate your reaching out to me for a refund. I did enjoy the food and the (other aspects of) service but it was egregious to ruin my evening like that. Fantastique!! Drouant is a beautiful, cozy restaurant located off Opera and is easily accessible by trains. Beautifully and tastefully decorated for the holidays. The restaurant was hopping upstairs with private parties and the restaurant was busy with customers. Despite being very busy, the staff was very attentive and hustling to accommodate everyone. The attention to quality and detail down to the flatware, glassware, and wine selection was impressive. The food was beautifully prepared and presented. The crispy langoustines and the raviole de homard (lobster) in a cognac reduction where delicious but I adored the risotto a la truffle. It was difficult to choose a dessert. Sitting here at dinner in MEXICO and randomly thought of my incredible time at Drouant, only to check my Yelp and realize that I never wrote a review. Unfortunately, I forgot our servers name but he was incredible! The food was delicious! Service was quick but not too quick, we had a leisurely long meal and a Mille feuil for dessert as well as the large Madeline. I really wish I could have more detail here, because this may have been the best culinary experience I've ever had (also partially because of the service). Will be back for sure. read more

The appetizers were great. There was a good selection from the menu. In particular I liked the crab and avocado. The vegetarian soup was a nice mix of fava bean and mint and peas. Very refreshing. The miss was the steak and fries. The pepper coating was slightly over powering and it was overcooked. Fries were under cooked. Bright interior inside made me feel comfortable and relaxed. Wow. Best food we had on our week long trip. We arrived for dinner around 10:30 - we learned everyone eats late in Paris. The servers all spoke English, which is good considering we don't speak more than 5 words of French. They had an English menu and helped us with recommendations. My wife elected to go with a four part appetizer that consisted of a pate, some kind of cold drink thing, fish sticks and one other thing. She loved it. I I had a "Entricote" steak (basically sirloin, as near as I could tell) with frites. The steak and the fries were outstanding. Of course, trying to get anyone in France to cook the steak beyond the point where the cow stops mooing is very difficult, but it was cooked enough for me. My wife had a Melon soup for her main course. Couldn't pay me to eat cold Melon soup, but she absolutely loved it. She swears there was something spicy added to it, but according to the waiter, he checked with the chef and it was just melon. Either way, she raved about it. She also enjoyed the desert - kind of a napoleon type thing, but with raspberries. It was called a millefeuille. I had a vodka lemon drink/ice cream thing for desert. It was awesome. We so loved it we intend to go to the chef's restaurant in NY next time we are there! read more

Mission: find a restaurant that is open on Easter Sunday in France, when Sundays are already notoriously difficult for such a task. Also, find one that will take a reservation for 8. Finally, that has a place 6 weeks before Easter Sunday (isn't already booked out). Drouant delivered on all the prerequisites and then proceeded to deliver a meal not just memorable because of impeccable service and cookery and atmosphere, but because it was in the company of old and new friends. I will not soon forget it, and I won't forget Drouant the next time I have a special occasion. Even better, Drouant is in my own arrondissement so there was a little "neighborhood pride" as the cherry on top. PS they set up high chairs for kids for a family next to our table. No pretensions here, just old-style hospitality, dressed up in finery and couture. read more

Great service. They spoke English and took care of me as a single diner. However, the food wasn't as amazing as I had hoped though still overall high calibur. It was all presented very elegantly, but there wasn't anything that really jumped out at me that I'd have to go back for. It seems like a very safe choice for fine dining and a great place to bring a date or client. I had the classic starter which actually is 4 mini-dishes. It consisted of: Leeks with vinaigrette, Duck foie gras with Port, A poultry terrine, and Egg-mayonnaise. Everything tasted as you'd expect them to be but did not exceed expectations. I chose to go with the suckling lamb shoulder confit. It was a bit drier than I would have liked and doused with sauce. Overall, it was too heavy but that could have just been a poor choice on my part. The vegetable sides were all good but certainly also made use of heavy sauces. I had the fruit tart for dessert which was just met expectations. They were really slow in giving me the bill so I guess that's a plus that they weren't rushing me but it was also a major delay in getting out of there. A place to try for the history and the charm of the individual salons. The food is good yet not amazing. A plus for the appetizers with the choice of 4. My preference goes for the scallop carpaccio. The Wednesday plat du jour, 'vol au vent' while being typical french comfort food, was not to my taste. Not impressed with the desserts either even if the éclair au chocolat, revisited with chocolate 'scoop', was creative. What made this lunch enjoyable was the private salon, 'Chez Colette', that allows intimate conversation when needed. The service level is high end, and completes the experience a nice way. read more

The restaurant has a lot of greenery on the outside and looks quite lovely. As you step in, the first thing that came to mind, it's not very French. It seemed more American than anything else, with its spacious rooms and very large individual tables. In fact, it's a little more upscale than our usual go to places for lunch. I felt somewhat under-dressed, oh well. The maitre'd immediately asked to take my jacket and seated me promptly. We were 5 for lunch My accent must've been pretty bad, because they gave me an English/French menu. They have a prefix menu for 44€. I was taking a photo of the menu, and our waitperson said I could keep it, how nice, but she told the others, jokingly I was the only one who could keep the menu. Flattery will get you everywhere. No expenses were spared for the written menu. Very glossy and elegant looking. Almost like a fancy wedding invitation. 1 person had the langoustine soup. I tasted it and loved it. It wasn't as creamy as I anticipated nor as thick as most bisque are; the consistency for me was perfect and it had a nice strong langoustine taste. I could immediately tell that they used the whole langoustine to flavor the broth, because I distinctly tasted the "mustard" or as we say in the U.S. "tomalley." Another person had the beet salad, and he loved it, stating it was very, very good. One person and I shared the "4-corners of the world" entrée, which consisted of lacquered shrimp with raita, falafel with sesame, steamed John dory, and a buffalo mozzarella with pesto and grilled pistachios. It was a really nice combination of different flavors. Net-net the entrées were good. We had a bottle of "Chateau Ame de Musset--2007" at 58€, which the whole group loved. Now here's where it gets interesting. 1 ordered the goose accompanied with a sausage. I tasted the goose and sausage. I liked the sausage, it was moist and tasty; however, someone forgot the "braising 101" rule. Braising meat too long can turn meats into very dry and sometimes "stringy" meat. It seems almost contradictory, since one would think that braising or boiling meats for long periods would soften and keep meats moist. On the contrary, braised or boiled meats should also be looked after, and once it's just tender, it should be removed. There comes a time when the meat reaches a "no point of return"; too dry and/or stringy. Unfortunately, the goose in this case was both dry and stringy. 1 other person had the venison stew. At first glance, it did not look appealing to me at all. I had a little taste of it. I personally did not like this dish. It was stewed so long that the wine actually became bitter and perhaps the wine used was a strong "oak" flavored wine which intensified its bitterness. The meat was very dry and stringy as well. My partner had originally ordered the blood sausage with a saddle of hare, but they did not have it. So, instead he got a mélange of different grilled meats. He felt it was just indescribable and just OK, nothing special and almost dull in taste and presentation. A hit was the scallops. Our companion felt the scallops were great! I had the crunchy pork belly. The large piece of pork belly was accompanied with filets of pork, which were actually quite good and delicious. However, the large piece of pork belly which included the skin and a little bit of the fat was not as crispy as I would've liked and the fat was not as creamy as it could've been. It should have been braised longer with maybe a little crisping of the skin under a salamander/broiler, or even fried. We all got a side of different vegetable casseroles accompanying our dishes. A carrot and cabbage dish, braised endive, pureed squash and pureed turnips. And, later they gave us a fifth, which was a buttered creamy spinach which I enjoyed a lot. But I'm a sucker for anything spinach. The portions were quite large, so we opted to forego dessert, and had coffee instead. But to our pleasant surprise, they gave us a few chocolate truffles with a confit of sliced orange. In summary, it's not a typical Parisian restaurant, and could literally be any place in the world. And, that includes the food as well. The service is excellent, from the maitre'd to the wait staff as well as the bus-people. The entrées were hits; however, most of our plats were questionable. Personally, I was not boiled over by the food, it was just uninspiring, and just OK. , I was really surprised that the "braised" dishes were executed so poorly. As a friend stated, "I didn't hate it, but I didn't love it either." However, at those prices I expected more. The bill for 5 of us came to almost €300 which included 2 glasses of white wine and a bottle of red wine. Would I go back? probably not. read more
