My family has been buying their carne asada and chicken here for at least 20 years! The flavor of the marinades can't be beat plus you can get all the fixings like pico de gallo, mini tortillas and huge avocados here. really love it here! read more

I grew up in "friendly" El Monte. This place has been around since I was a kid. That may be a long time...don't ask my age. Move on. The meat is nothing less than deliciousness in your mouth. I might be a little bias because i grew up around the corner from here. Yes, There Marinated chicken, is like no other, because they have there soaked, its not just sitting on dry with salt and spices only, which its no good because half of the time it has no flavor. I bin coming here since the 1990, I drive from East Los Angeles, to buy the Chicken, for Super Bowl games or Tailgate, Now I live in El Monte and closer to this place and still great. My favorite spot for meats. For a special occasion I come here for marinated ranchera and man oh man is it worth the price. Most of the butchers are very informative. I stay away from the guacamole as is lacks in flavor but the salsas are good. Good selection of fresh fruits and vegetables read more

When I move to El Monte CA, a friend of mine, ask me lets go and get some carne azada and chicken marinade, they got the best carne Azada and Chicken Marinade, I did not believe him at first. When I try the chicken and Carne Azada, marinaded, I said oh my god this is awesome, super tasty, and since then La Pradera Market, In El Monte is my favorite spot for meat, chicken, Fresh Home made Salsas, and chips Chicken,beef fajitas, pastor meat well made. It's not "fake" American wagyu that's barely prime grade either--the marbling is a perfect balance between the richness of Australian/Japanese wagyus and a regular prime. The only issue I've had over the years was one of the older guys behind the counter charging us for something much more expensive than what we actually asked for, and we had to drive all the way back to get a refund. Not sure what the deal was since we ran into him when getting the refund and he seemed annoyed rather than apologetic lol. But! Aside from that, everyone's great. When they're busy, grab a number from the corner and they'll call. There's a great selection in the case of just about every type of meat including fresh seafood. Bought a slab of Icelandic cod today as well because it looked so nice. If you order a lot, they'll ring you up in the back, otherwise they'll let you bring it to the front checkout to pay.

The premium beef is between the lean and normal beef in terms of fat to meat ratio. It's well marbled. They ran out of normal beef tongue so we had to get the premium. Pricey but delicious and definitely our favorite. Although I've never had bad beef tongue before. Overall, everything was fresh, containers were labeled, and service was quick. Prices are fair as it is still a lot more economical than going to a restaurant. They take credit card with a minimum purchase. Parking is available and shared among all the shops in the plaza.

Unfortunately, it was knocked down in order to build the Singing Woods. They opened up again shortly after and still on the corner but now it's on the other side. La Penita is owned by a wife and husband duo who just happen to be the sweetest people. I've known them for years and will always support their business. It's walking distance from my parents house and whenever we need something we always walk up to street to it. It's a small meat market but they also have a few groceries to help you make up the rest of the meal!

Decided to walk in and get their small sizes of salsa (8oz). It's $4.99 a pound, what a steal! Tried them today and they're so good! Everyone was friendly, the prices are right ($17 for everything), and it tastes great. They have a repeat customer for sure and have lots of selection for such a small establishment. Thank you!

They have a great Mexican soda variety to choose from as well as Mexican candy. I have not stopped coming here since I moved back to Montebello.
