Food is tasty. Pupusas are a solid 8. Terrible service though. Workers look miserable and treat you like you're bothering them.

Just a couple of weeks ago, my friends and I were considering our options for where to have brunch to celebrate one of our friend's retirement. Toast was one of the names I dropped in the metaphorical hat, and it won the vote of a few. My friends were surprised that I had named a spot I hadn't yet tried since I'm usually the "foodie" of the group. However, another girl in the group who had been here before vouched for it. I'm glad I finally got to try this place this past weekend, and I cannot wait to return! There were so many things on their menu that I wanted to try. A couple of the ladies ordered green chilaquiles, the friend we were celebrating ordered the Spanish Omelet, another woman I'd met that day had the bacon and eggs, another one ordered the Biscuits and grave with a side of bacon that looked perfectly crispy. I wish I had taken pictures of the plates as it all looked so lovely! I didn't even take a picture of my own food haha. I had my eyes on an omelet, one of the Benedicts or the Chicken n Waffle. In the end, the chicken and waffle won. It comes served with a little container of maple syrup with bacon pieces. The chicken was perfectly crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. The waffle was delicious, though I did request for some extra syrup on the side. To drink, a few ladies ordered mimosas, one ordered an iced caramel coffee, and I ordered the Carajillo. I fell in love with this drink last summer in Mexico and do not often see it on the menu. I love the subtle citrus notes the Licor 43 adds to this espresso drink. It is very similar to an espresso martini, and theirs comes topped with a toasted marshmallow. I honestly wanted to try almost every item in their Tipsy Barista section of their drinks. I'll just have to come back that many more times :) Plenty of parking in the mall lot. It does get pretty packed during peak hours. Fortunately I had called ahead to put our group of 6 down. We went in on Saturday around 11:30. It slowed down a bit while we were eating, but started to get busy again after 1. Otherwise, we might have been forced to honor their 90-minute rule. All in all, a great experience from everyone in our group. No complaints on the wait, service or food. That certainly deserves a toast. Great job, Toast!

Once we were ready she had our table already prepared. We have to order inside first before you can be seated. Once seated our food came out not too long after. Everything looked and tasted delicious! We ordered the chilaquiles verde, short rib omelette, tropical pancakes (seasonal), and the mango curd french toast (seasonal). The chilaquiles verde was savory and tangy. It wasn't soggy at all and definitely one of my favorite dishes. The short rib omelette was savory but didn't give me any wow factor compared to the other dishes I ordered. The tropical pancakes were so pretty. I only tried a piece of it without the syrup which I think was a mistake because the kumquat syrup was my friend's favorite. I definitely need to try it again with the syrup. Best for last, mango curd French toast was my favorite! I fell in love with sweetness and tanginess of the mango curd. The French toast was soft and you can taste the butter. I wish it was a main menu item. I'll definitely be sad to see it go. They have lots of seating inside and outside.

I had the Eggs Benedict with birria, and they were delicious! The portion size was just right for me. My boyfriend had the chilaquiles, which he enjoyed, but the portion was a bit too small for him. Overall, we enjoyed our meal and the casual, relaxed atmosphere.

Anyhow, my family and I were driving back home after participating in a hiring event for my son (first paid job -- so proud of him!) We were all hungry and since we were in a part of town we had not been to before did a quick search. Decided on "The Neighborhood Cafe" and headed over! We were greeted by " The Los Angeles Gentlmen" motorcycle club -- couldn't have been nicer! Then we walked in and were greeted warmly by the owner and his daughter, Cheryl. We were immediately seated and made comfortable. Cheryl took our orders and could not have been nicer/friendlier. Very spacious and cute atmosphere. Ordered and after a little bit of a wait (Due to food made to order BTW!) I had the absolute best chicken and waffles ever. IT WAS A 1/2 CHICKEN seasoned to perfection -- flavorful and juicy! The waffle was clearly homemade and also flavorful. The hot honey was a sweet/spicy welcome addition. My family also REALLY enjoyed their dishes!! We live on the westside so we will not be able to get over as often as we would like :( BUT I work near downtown so I can see me grabbing take home every once and awhile! I was just telling my wife I want to go back and get that again!! :) :) :) For those of you visiting the area looking for delicious food and a wonderful atmosphere, I highly recommend "The Neighborhood Cafe". For those of you who live in the area either go or go BACK and support this gem!

Yelp did and the One Twelve Caffe did not disappoint! We split a tuna melt panini and a pistachio chocolate croissant and everything was delicious. The service was friendly and the restaurant was well staffed which i feel is rarely the case these days. Usually smaller restaurants like these are understaffed and tables sit unbussed and wiped down for too long. Not here! The inside and outside were really clean and tables were cleared quickly. We actually overstayed our welcome but no one ever hounded us to leave the table. It wasn't packed since it was an early lunch on a Thursday, but it was nice to be able to have our meeting and not feel pressured to leave. I only wish this place was close to me! It's the kind of place you want to go back to over and over! If we meet in Downey again, we know where to go!
