We come here often, and when we do come to pops cafe we are always happy with what we get. I always order the corned beef hash with pancakes, the pancakes are really good. The service is fast and they are very tentative. The dining area is small but they have seating outside. They get very busy at times. The restaurant is pretty loud, it's. It the staff but you can hear everything like people's utensils siting the plate and loud talking, but that is most likely because the location is small so you can hear everything. The parking in front may be hard but they have parking the rear of the location. The prices are responsible and they give large portions, you won't be upset. The buttermilk pancakes are always so good, and the Irish-style country potatoes are delicious and never disappoint. When we arrived, the line was really long, even though I had called ahead and was told there was no wait. We still had to put our name on the list, but to their credit, we were seated within a few minutes. The place was definitely crowded and loud. I ordered water and coffee, and my friend just got water. A staff member brought the drinks but ended up spilling the coffee all over the table and menu. He just said, "Sorry about that," and walked off. I figured he would come back to clean it up, but he didn't. I had to flag him down to ask for napkins. Instead of helping, he just dropped off a stack. It was a lot of coffee, four napkins were soaked. Thankfully, our server Paris turned things around. She was super friendly and had great personality. I asked her for a recommendation between the breakfast burrito and the Belgian waffle. She suggested the burrito, and it did not disappoint. My friend got the country fried steak (which Paris said was the best in town), and he was also craving a pancake, so they let him sub that in for toast. Very good service! Food was good nothing special about it. The inside was loud like any breakfast restaurant. The walls have old license plates from different states and countries. We were charged for an extra coffee which and also they charged us more than the bill amount. When they swiped the credit card it was .93 cents more than what the food receipt said. Been exploring all the breakfast joints in my immediate area with my lady lately and came across Pop's Cafe while waiting at Black Bear Diner the weekend before. Decided to come back the week after and we are glad we discovered Pop's. Sign said seat yourself so we did, very relaxed and welcoming vibe. Our server Libney got to us before I could pull in my seat and asked us if we'd like coffee, she must've sensed that this was our first time either by not recognizing us as regulars, or our body language, but it was very nice she asked, first one in many places to ask. It made us feel noticed and appreciated. Decent menu size not overwhelming or confusing. It's American Diner with the classics, menu shouldn't be more complicated than that. Food came out quick and hot, generous portions, and quality taste. I got the pork chops and they were cooked perfect, not dry at all, hash browns were perfect and crisped right. Pancakes were good, I've had better or maybe I waited too long to start on them, the waffle was perfect. Libney came in to check on us several times made sure the coffee and waters were topped off before I could even ask. The other attendants cleared our empty plates promptly so we had more eating room. I definitely would return or make it our official weekend breakfast spot. Libney invited us to their beer and wings location down the street so we'll see what that's all about soon. We visited this restaurant today and unfortunately had to walk out due to the service. We waited to be seated, which was completely understandable. However, once seated, we were repeatedly bypassed by the servers. We watched multiple tables--some seated after us--get cleaned, turned over, and attended to, while no one came to acknowledge us. After quite some time, I had to flag down a busboy to ask if there was a server assigned to our table. He prompted the server to come over. When she did, she seemed overwhelmed and rushed through taking our order, which made us feel like an inconvenience rather than guests. We requested a regular milk for our one-year-old (who was getting fussy from waiting), along with a kids' chocolate milk and one chocolate milk for me. The server returned with only the kids' chocolate milk and informed us they had run out of regular milk. It was frustrating to hear they had enough milk for chocolate milk but none for plain milk--especially since that was the main thing our daughter would have been drinking. At that point, after already feeling overlooked and rushed, we decided to leave. As we were preparing to go, the server suddenly "found" a regular milk in the back and offered it as a substitute, but by then the experience had already left a bad impression. Horrible waiting schedule they put all the parties of two first and it doesn't matter what time you get here because any group of 3 or more gets pushed to the side. Food is good service is horrible. I asked the guy when I got here how long for my group of 6 he said 30 minutes. Then I asked after 30 minutes he said I had to wait 15 minutes because there were two more groups in front then I asked at and hour wait and this guy rudely said I have to wait our turn because we are a big group and people were still in front even though he kept pulling people that got here after us. My wife had the pancake breakfast. The food reminded me of the kind we would get early before a golf outing or heading to the lake to fish. I love the road-tripping memorabilia, which really emphasizes the cafe vibe. Now about the service: the staff was super friendly and courteous. It was busy when we got there a little after 9am on a Saturday, but we got seated right away. By the time we left, every table was occupied, and there was a waiting list. If you love onions like I do, order the Irish potatoes. They come with onions and bell peppers on top of hash browns. I don't like bell peppers, so I asked for onions only. Quality of food and service has declined in my last two visits. This latest visit we ordered a bowl of Oatmeal and it was served in a regular foam take out container where they put salads usually with it all spilling out, they didn't include toppings then snapped I hadn't paid for them. When I ordered I asked for the oatmeal with all the toppings, how was I to know they didn't charge me for what I ordered. My husband and I love Pop's Cafe. We go almost every other weekend for brunch. We have been displaced by the Eaton fire since January and have been staying in Downey. We do not have a kitchen at our temporary location, so we eat out often. Pop's is a go-to because: (1) The food is consistently delicious. (2) The servers are polite, fast, and efficient. (3) The coffee is great, the food comes out fast. There is almost always a wait when we go and the place is POPPIN but it's never a long wait because the staff there work together like a well-oiled machine. They get it done! We often sit outside with our dog, Sora, but we've also been allowed to sit inside with her because she is a service animal. Servers have always been very kind and friendly to us. Delightful experience dining here this morning. We drove out from Los Angeles to meet a family member who is in town visiting.
