"Integrity"! I'll explain! Came here sometime ago with my wife for an afternoon lunch. The food was Okay! Not Great; But Not Bad Either! The problem was when I received the Bill! The amount was Way Overblown (The Amount Billed Came Nowhere Close to what was ordered)! When I addressed it, the waitress seemed more annoyed than just being forthcoming! She tried to justify the amount at which point I informed her that I a would Refuse to pay the bill unless I spoke to the General Manager! At that point, she accepted the amount I was willing to pay which was simply the amount posted on the menu! At which point, I informed her that if they want to keep their customers, they had better either Update their Menu with the Appropriate Prices or Inform customers that the Price on the menu has not yet been upgraded and just verbally inform customers of the correct price. read more

I came here by chance with my husband since we were in the area, waiting for a table at another establishment. The wait seemed to be pretty long so we kept our space there and went for a walk when we came across La Papusa Loca and decided to grab a table. The decor is nice and I liked the wall art. We sat by the window in front so we could people watch as we enjoyed our meal. Our server was very nice. She explained the specials and we were luckily just in time for happy hour prices for drinks. We started with the appetizer platter which was a smattering of various items, along with grilled chicken hearts. They tasted really good. I had the octopus as my main and hubby had some sliders. The food was ok, service was horrible. First we walk in and ask the waitress where should we sit and she says "anywhere." Then the first table we sat at was daughter. Then when I asked for milk for my son she asked what kind? Food took forever, the chicharron tasted nasty. We ran the bell they have on tables to get another drink and she ignored us. Show at Cap night... So we walked in to La Papusa Loca, and the atmosphere is kind of meh.... Very bright inside, folding tables pieced together. Not much to it. We wanted to go to Taqueria La Picardia but it was packed - so we came here. This place had four people total dining and was wide open, and we needed to eat, so we all sat down. Sat down and the waitress did not speak a word of english. Really? She was not very friendly either. A couple of the local patrons gave me and my party dirty looks as if we were not wanted there. We all kind of sluffed it off, put our friendly faces on, and spoke the little spanish that we knew and navigated thru the ordering, paying the bill etc.. The bathrooms were dirty. Not a good sign. The only bright side saving this review from a one star was that the food was actually quite good. I won't come here again though. Next time Taqueria La Picardia. I'd rather wait to eat, than deal with dismal service. To the owner if you are reading this. You really need to work on the service, and speaking english. Pretty, pretty bad. read more

The food was very good, I would be more than happy to return. The waitress didn't speak a single word of English including "diet coke", so it was nice that another lady jumped in to correct or order which was necessary. I would take this into consideration if the place was very busy. The atmosphere could use improvement: two different TVs going, one full volume and music. And it's mainly lit by neon lights. Anyone that gives this restaurant less than 5 STARS, came in for the wrong reason! In college, I had a Salvadoran roommate and got to eat my way though El Salvador for an entire month... the best Salvadoran PUPUSAS and TAMALES that I have ever had, were in Portchester, NY... NOT down there!!! Order these and you have had an unforgettable experience!!! Oh man. Stopped in last night with my partner and was blown away! We were in town for a show from upstate, but I'd be here constantly if I could. So fairly priced, the servers were all so sweet and patient with my broken ass Spanish, and the food was absolutely delicious. We had the Ceviche de Camarones, Yucca Fritas w/ Sardines (one of my favorite dishes I've ever had), Loroco Papusas, and Bistec Palomilla w/ Maduros. Massive portions and all wonderful. Couple of beers at a fair price as well. I made a yelp just to say: I shall be back ¡¡¡¡Gracias, La Papusa Loca!!!!' P.s. To all you crabby folks complaining about not being served first, servers not speaking English, etc. - this is obviously a community hub for Latin American folks in Port Chester, and a super lovely one at that. Why don't you get yourself a Rosetta Stone, learn some Spanish, and appreciate that this isn't some yuppy microbrewery with Kimchi tacos. Fan of authentic pupusa, so have now stopped here 2x's. Both times with my wife. The first time the food was good, but it took forever to get served. Seemed like everyone else around us got served first. Why is that? Returned on Sat nite as its adjacent to new Capitol Theater. Was in a hurry, and we recalled that we had stopped in a year earlier. Also recalled the long wait for sketchy reasons. So we sat down, with the place mostly empty...and waited. And waited. 10 minutes in, no one had asked us for drink or food order? Now, why IS THAT?! So we left, and won't return. There are 100's of great food spots in this area, so no need to come back to a place that seems to have an issue with a certain type of clientele. This has been my favorite spot for pupusa untill yesterday. I ordered last night about 30 pupusas for my family. They were soo DRY! The pupusa was barley stuffed with anything. Also we found plenty of little hairs on some of our pupusas. I dont know if they changed the person who usually made the pupusa or maybe because it was alot and they just wanted to finish fast. Whatever the case is, we were all very disappointed and made us not want to order from here again. read more

Went here for the lunch special (M-F 12-3PM). The place was pretty empty and the service fairly slow. Like the other reviews service is slow. Not sure what the others were referring about not being the "type" of customer but I noticed that everyone was not serviced quickly. Food from the buffet was warm and flavorful. The food is good - but the music and televisions are cranked to 11 - to cover the chirping of multiple smoke detectors which need new batteries. Not being able to stand the noise - we asked for our entire order to go. Shame on us for not checking the bag - we were short a papusa and a tamale which we had paid for - and my boyfriend had been looking forward to all day. I visited this place today, was looking forward to ordering fried fish a long with a few other things, which I did, but instead of fish I got fried chicken, they did not want to replace it so I ended with a friend chicken and fish, it was a raining day as I was walking out I fell because the floor was so slippery with grease and water, the food was ok, I didn't not get a refund for the food I didn't want and $20 extra dollar out of pocket, when I feel the staff did not seem to care, the customer were more concerned about my well being than they were. Never coming back to this place, hopefully my knee/ wrist and arm are well. Be careful coming here if you do. read more

Great Salvadoran food in Port Chester NY. Great menu choices, and the portion sizes were big! Very good ceviche and Salvadoran steak!

Really bad place. Service is horrible. Tables around me are extremely dirty from the moment I got there till the moment I left. Food is cheap that's about it. Mediocre, overpriced food AND terrible service, plus the waitresses were extremely rude. They told us that our order would be ready for pickup within 20 minutes and it took almost an hour to get our food. Then they kept telling us to come back in ten minutes about 3 times. Nearing s whole hour of waiting we asked if the food was ready and they told us they haven't even packed it yet. They were super disorganized and told my mom to take the 3 bags on the counter so she did and when we were driving away the worker called us to say we took a wrong bag, so there was a lot of confusion. Upon coming back one of the waitresses turned to my mother and said "that will teach you to be more careful of your things", which is just an unacceptable way to talk to a client and it was just so rude.
