Came here for lunch. The decor is colorful and full of authentic artifacts from Mexico. They play old school Mexican music which creates the ambience. The staff is very friendly but I did notice that none of the staff is following CDC guidelines for Covid19. They seating is the only thing they do follow by using every other table. They have a fresh salsa/ condiment bar. The food was okay not great. We ordered Guacamole and it had no flavor and was barely mixed. The meat for my tacos was dry. $75 for 2 margaritas (which were the only tasty thing of the evening), a plate of chicken nachos and a plate of enchiladas! The chicken on the nachos had absolutely no seasoning on it and the cheese sauce was watery, not even sure how that is possible. Tried to improve it with a few of the salsas from the salsa bar but it was hopeless. Put it in a to-go box and dumped it in the trash outside the door on our way out. Enchiladas were also very bland, covered in the same green sauce from the salsa bar. Refried beans tasted like they came out of a can. Have been coming here off an on for years, sometimes the food is pretty good and other times it is awful. Don't think I will be giving it another try any time soon, not at those prices. read more

Very good! They make a point of saying they are "not Tex Mex", so we were ready to experience some authentic Mexican food! Their chips are thin, fresh and salty and are served with a bean dip. They have a fabulous salsa bar from which to choose your level of heat. The menu is huge and varied so it took a few minutes to decide, but I settled on a combination with an al pastor (pork with onions and pineapple) taco and a cheese enchilada with red sauce. The al pastor taco was SO GOOD and the enchilada was cheesy deliciousness, but the red sauce was much too spicy for me. I added some of the avocado salsa from the salsa bar and this cut down on the heat. To be different, my hub tried the cabeza (cow's head) tacos, and said they were great. The tacos are a good size and filled with a lot of meat. Overall, we really enjoyed it. This may become our go-to place for Mexican as there is such a great variety still to try. This restaurant proudly proclaims on their front door, "Make no mistake, this is not Tex-Mex." And even though they do have some Tex-Mex items, they also have more authentic Mexican dishes. I tried one of my favorites, the Tacos Al Pastor. Three homemade corn tortillas filled with marinated pork, and grilled pineapple and onions. These may have been the very best I have ever eaten. I added the side cheese that came with the serving to get a little sweet/salt thing going, but other than that, these tacos were so good I did not use any salsa on them. Even though the salsa bar had several outstanding selections, including avocado based salsa, habanero based salsa, pico de gallio and others. The food was excellent. The server was very polite and attentive, all smiles. The margarita was large, on the rocks and also very good. The only real downside is that it is very dark and cluttered inside and the restaurant location is in a small end unit of a strip mall that has seen better days. So the only reason it is not a five star is the atmosphere/decor/dimness, but that is not a big deal when the food is excellent. Next time, I will try seafood. I remember an authentic Mexican restaurant south of Dallas, Texas called La Calle Doce (12th street) that called itself, "Mexico City Mexican" and was a bit on the upscale side. In particular, a shrimp dish that La Reata seems to have something similar. I live across town but this place is worth the drive. Plus, two of us, with one Margarita and one soda racked up a $30 tab, which is not a bad deal! read more

Need a Full Time bartender.. preferably a young lady-Arellia (spelling?) did a GREAT job. I took some friends there. They went back for another visit! Unfortunately they could not find anyone to make them a 2nd drink. They left after paying & told me they would not be back! Considering the fact that there's not any very few customers-due to this COVID-19, it is disappointing. I invited people to this local business doubting they were ignored...So I decided to go by an hr later. I did not realize how lucky they were to actually get a beverage - I never even got one and just ended up walking out and leaving! How disappointing. No spoons for kids to eat with. A different lady explained, $ 1299 and their chimichangas were extremely large were her words, when we received it, it was a very small chimichanga on a plate. Tasted very pasty and under done hard to tell it was deep-fried. The service was not good at all our youngest child was eating off of a plate and the server was trying to take it away... all around it was just a terrible experience. This is the real. Authentic Mexican food cook just the way we like it. Its not speedy fast because they make everything by hand. No canned food here. We ordered two lunch specials but couldn't finish it. The server was nice and sat down and talked to us about the food and Mexican food. We tried to eat at "Mr. Salsa," but found that we could not have our dog sit with us on the patio (even though he is highly trained) so we found La Reata. The service was outstanding. "Alex," the manager served us himself and we could not have asked for a more thoughtful or knowledgeable server. The rest of the staff were kind and helpful also. The food was perfect. I had the chicken enchiladas with green sauce and my wife had chicken quesadilla. One unique feature is their salsa bar, which contains a good variety of fresh-made salsas. Holy crap this place is awesome! So the woman and made a road trip from Atlanta to Greer, SC to look at a car we found online for the princess. When that was a huge bust as the car was not as advertised we needed to recover from the long road trip with some authentic Mexican food. So of course I turn to Yelp for where to go for food. We did our search and found La Reata, which was 1.2 miles away from that disappointing car dealership. Let's just say when we saw the sign stating they were real mexican food and not Tex-Mex we knew this was going to be a fun stop. We walk inside, were greeted, and then sat right next to nirvana, their salsa bar. The menu is packed with so many choices I settled on a poblano plate. OMFG, tasty!
