However, its not one of those Mexican sea food places. I know its confusing. But let me say this, they share the space with one of their suppliers - a fish monger so you know its fresh off the boat, fare. I can't express the way I feel about this restaurant. Words alone can not do it justice. It is not a mexican restaurant. It is a seafood place that serves mexican food. The shrimp or fish ceviche and sopa del marisco (seafood soup) are reasons to go here by their selves. I suggest the shrimp ceviche tostada and a bowl of the soup. Fresh. Fresh. Fresh. And the spices are just right. This is the way they are served in the western coastal towns of Mexico. Their fried shrimp and drum are so good I could barely stop myself from eating when full. Their portion sizes are more than enough for the average eater. The price is definitely better than you will find anywhere in town. The only drawback is the neighborHOOD. Remove your precious belongings from your car. Lock it. Turn on the alarm if you have one. Oh and try not to make eye contact with the bums. You should be ok. It does not get much better than this place. If you are looking for a great local place for Mexican and seafood this place cannot be beat. Very local without ambiance but the freshest seafood and great Mexican dishes. Inexpensive and can't be beat. Only reason not to get 5 stars is the overall curb appeal and lack of interior warmth. You actually must walk through the fish market to get to the toilets and it is a bit unsettling after the market closes as the smell is typical and the toilets are to the back and rather placed in a dark corner...having said that, get over it, the food is great! read more

This is one of my favorites when I visit corpus. I started going to the Morgan Street seafood market next door many years ago and then they started selling the ceviche to the restaurant next door so I just transitioned to the restaurant and usually get a quart of ceviche to bring home or head out to the beach. The place can get busy at times and food wait depends on what you order but overall the food is good to excellent and is a Mexican style restaurant near downtown. read more

Always love eating here every Sunday morning after church. Food is good and the seafood is delicious never had a moment to complain about a thing. The only down fall which is why I gave it a 4 star is the parking and at times the seating but now that they extended the seating area its not as bad but the parking is still a problem and the fact that they close to the public for others kinda puts a damper on our morning after church when that happens other then that minor issue the food is worth it. read more

So this place is the real deal. No-frills, but super fresh seafood with an authentic home cooked vibe. There is nothing like this in my hometown, Austin. forget ambiance, McDonalds has more ambiance. Food, however, is fantastic. Make SURE to ask for fresh corn tortillas--they make them all day so they are REALLY fresh. All the seafood is fresh caught and amazing--especially the drum. I have a great weakness for nopales, and they will fix them for you with or without eggs (I go without). If I was basing this review on the quality of the food and service, La Ribera would receive all five stars, but what they provide in food quality, they lack in atmosphere. First of all, as we are walking in, there is a chain-smoking guy in a wheelchair and a woman pestering you and asking if they can detail your car. They are holding dirty rags and are surrounded by Windex bottles and Armour-All bottles and the man is aggressive and the woman looks like a crack head. As I walk in, I start to forget about whether or not they will mess with my car without my approval and I quickly forget about that because I am instantly hit with a strong sewer stench that is strongly laced with a Pine-Sol smell. We are there because friends have told us how great the food is, so we look at the very crowded dining area (which is usually a good sign) and look to the back at what looks like a remodeled dining room and head over there. The smell is still there but the waitress is very pleasant and presents us with a very lengthy menu. They serve mexican food and seafood dishes. She brings us chips and a very good salsa. I was told by my friend that I would like their seafood caldo so I order that and my friend orders fried drum and shrimp. The seafood soup is unbelievable! Chock full of large shrimp, fish, scallops, crab, octopus, and the great accompanying rice, as well as the homeade corn tortillas were flawless! My friend kept raving about how fresh and delicious his drum and shrimp were. If they can run off the people that pester you in the parking lot and fix their plumbing or whatever that disgusting smell was, it would be perfect. read more
