We were in San Juan visiting our son and he took us to La Santurcina. We are so glad he did because it was awesome. Here is what we noticed: - Apparently the place can get crowded, but the night we were there was very chill with lots of open tables. The vibe is relaxed and nice. - We started with an order of the meatballs, which an extra one, for the four of us...they were excellent, as was the bread they came with. - Between the four of us, we split two pizzas, the Zucchini Ricotta and the La Del Chef. Both were tasty, and the differences between them made them the perfect combination. - We ordered two different bottles of wine, starting off with a white and then switching to a red. The wine list was really great, with a lot of options and the bottle prices were very affordable. - Service was incredible. In fact, our server asked us if we really wanted the red wine as it might be a little warm, which enabled us to have it chilled a bit until we had finished the bottle of white. I don't know about you, but we've been to even higher end restaurants where the server doesn't have a clue regarding the proper wine temperture...we were really impressed here. We were craving a vegetarian meal while in PR and Neapolitan style pizza sounded perfect. We shared the arancini app and a regular margarita pizza. The arancini was really good and had a nice kick to it. The pizza really hit the spot, although the sauce needed some flavor, even if it was just a bit more salt. Nevertheless, it was a solid pizza! They also have a nice beer/wine selection with some local offerings. We arrived for dinner without a reservation and although the restaurant was mostly full, we were able to get a table. They do have bar seating which we would have been happy with as well. It's casual in there, but still elevated. Definitely worth a try if you're craving some pizza! read more

Easily top three Neopolitan style pizzerias in San Juan, possibly even the best. The Zucchini Ricotta was perfect. Every bite was a delight. The cheeseburger empanadas were also very good. They are a little spicy because of the jalapeños in the empanadas and the chipotle mayo dipping sauce. That said, the wait time for us to be seated was longer than they told us. They made up for it, however, by comping us some fried olives. It was a nice gesture. And the olives were very good. Great beer options, cool vibe, and friendly service. Will be back. Street parking only. There are a few lots nearby but most were charging $15. I did find one that was $5. read more

Fer nailed it. He went over the menu in great detail, making sure we got a clear idea of what to expect. Santurcina is easily one of the best pizza spots in Puerto Rico. Their Neapolitan/American-style pizza has a thin, airy, crunchy crust. The meatballs are exceptional--juicy, flavorful, and paired with their amazing homemade tomato sauce. Must-try pizzas: "La Santurcina" and "La Del Chef" for bold, unique flavors. If you're into white sauce, go for "La De Setas"-- it also has mushrooms balancing the flavor profile perfectly. La Santurcina in San Juan: A Beautiful Idea, Struggling Execution As a physician, public health professional, and former health inspector, I bring a critical -- but fair -- lens to the dining table. This Memorial Day wekend, I stopped by La Santurcina, a well-branded Italian-forward restaurant in San Juan known for its creative pizzas and cocktails. The experience started strong. The bartender was engaged, skilled, and confident. Based on her suggestion, I ordered La Del Chef -- pancetta, caramelized onions, mozzarella, and pecorino. The concept is classic: balancing sweet, salty, creamy, and acidic elements. But the kitchen missed the mark. The pizza was inconsistent -- some bites overwhelmingly sweet, others flat and overpowered by tomato. The pancetta was sporadic, failing to tie it all together. More troubling were the hygiene practices: cell phones in hand, then straight back to food prep -- no gloves, no visible handwashing. As someone who's trained and inspected kitchens up and down the East Coast, this is where my visit ended, figuratively. La Santurcina should be thriving by now -- they have the branding, the location, the concept. But without stronger kitchen leadership and basic food safety protocols, it risks becoming a missed opportunity. Final Verdict: C- Beautiful idea. Lacking in execution. Risky in food handling. The server was very friendly and attentive-- quite a difference from other places here in PR. I can see this place is quite popular as we were the first guests at opening but didn't take much for people to start coming in. Overall great place to get caught up and share a meal with your friends or family or even by yourself!! The pizza was good but I enjoyed the polenta appetizer a little too much!! I really liked that the server was offering custom drinks to the guests- I missed out because I don't drink but I was tempted to try a big of island flavor. Next time for sure!! read more

Excellent Neapolitan style pizza! Pizza's here are super innovative. Our waitress was so friendly and helped us pick out our pizzas and would gas up the ones we'd enjoy the most. As a group of 5 we shared a total of 3 pizzas: the beetaroni, chorizo y batata, and the tropi-pepperoni. If you're going to do pineapple on pizza, tropi-pepperoni is definitely the way to go. Instead of huge chunks, they're thinly sliced and it reminded me of similar hot honey styled pizzas. The chorizo y batata had a right amount of kick to it. The beetaroni was definitely the star of the show. Especially from such an unsuspecting topping. Beets on pizza don't normally sound good but you have to taste this to believe it. I also loved the ricotta with the pizza. Overall they toe the line between unconventional flavors and satisfying pizza. Highly recommend! read more

The food here was absolutely incredible - possibly one of the best Caesar salads I've had in my lifetime which was a big surprise. We sat at the bar and our service was still amazing. Our servers were all super friendly and sharing recommendations with us for the island. I am a little ashamed this was my favorite meal during my San Juan trip - but it absolutely was!! I was in PR for work and decided to walk over here for dinner on a Saturday night and am so glad I did. The drink I ordered was so good. My server was extremely friendly and explained the menu well. I took his suggestions for both pizza and dessert and didn't regret it. (Although when I come back, I absolutely need to try the hand-pulled in house mozzarella). I ordered la Santurcina pie and I ate the whole thing. This was the first completely clean plate for me in a long time it was beyond excellent. Then the dessert - it was a banana bread pudding and I will dream about this little dessert for a long time. It was phenomenal. The food was outstanding! We had the pique and the guava sesame wings--both were delicious!! The outside was crispy and the inside was perfectly cooked! I loved the heat of the pique sauce, it was a deeper, smokier heat than buffalo sauce. We also ordered the tropi-pepperoni pizza. Appetizer tasty, the waitress Valeria abruptly took the plates did not say a word, then over 20 minutes later smashed plates to the table without saying a word. Then I asked the same waiter that took my appetizer order of everything was ok with the waitress, and took my dessert order being that my appetite for a main dish was gone after waiting so long. Awesome Italian style pizza; not quite wood oven fired but it eats like one. They have some really interesting options and these pizzas are more personal style (probably 1.5 pizzas for 2 people). The food was very good, but I am definitely not coming back. The service and concept of the restaurant don't offer a good experience for the customer. To begin, they don't accept reservations. I arrived at 7:00p.m. and didn't get a table until 8:40p.m. I waited THAT long because I was able to have drinks and/or be seated at the restaurant next door while I waited, and I really wanted to try and support this new place. We were a group of 4, and had to wait until they seated everyone else, with the excuse that they didn't have a table for 4 people (so they are not able to put together 2 tables of 2 people). By the way....if your group is of 5 or more, they won't give you a table after 5:30p.m. Too many non-sense restrictions...you're loosing customers. All the dishes were served without silverware to serve each plate. Pizza without a pizza spatula, a shared appetizer without anything to serve our individual portions. Since they closed at 9:00p.m. I had specifically asked if we still had time to eat without rush. The host/server assured me that they closed when the last table (us) was done. Not even 45 minutes after we were served, we were told that the bar was closing. Our main dishes had not arrived yet!!! Obvious to say that we were the last ones there. They were rushing the plates out of out table, even without waiting for us to be done. One of the servers mentioned: "I shower naked and only on Saturdays". Is that really necessary? If they are too cool for customers to have minimum service, who is your "concept" for? Not coming back, or recommend to anyone. read more
