    Eggplant Parmigiana

The eggplant parmigiana is delish. I also recommend the zucchini ricotta pizza. I was not expecting to love it so much. The pesto makes all the difference.

La Santurcina in San Juan: A Beautiful Idea, Struggling Execution As a physician, public health professional, and former health inspector, I bring a critical -- but fair -- lens to the dining table. This Memorial Day wekend, I stopped by La Santurcina, a well-branded Italian-forward restaurant in San Juan known for its creative pizzas and cocktails. The experience started strong. The bartender was engaged, skilled, and confident. Based on her suggestion, I ordered La Del Chef -- pancetta, caramelized onions, mozzarella, and pecorino. The concept is classic: balancing sweet, salty, creamy, and acidic elements. But the kitchen missed the mark. The pizza was inconsistent -- some bites overwhelmingly sweet, others flat and overpowered by tomato. The pancetta was sporadic, failing to tie it all together. More troubling were the hygiene practices: cell phones in hand, then straight back to food prep -- no gloves, no visible handwashing. As someone who's trained and inspected kitchens up and down the East Coast, this is where my visit ended, figuratively. La Santurcina should be thriving by now -- they have the branding, the location, the concept. But without stronger kitchen leadership and basic food safety protocols, it risks becoming a missed opportunity. Final Verdict: C- Beautiful idea. Lacking in execution. Risky in food handling. Plenty of room -- and reason -- to improve.

The server was very friendly and attentive-- quite a difference from other places here in PR. I can see this place is quite popular as we were the first guests at opening but didn't take much for people to start coming in. Overall great place to get caught up and share a meal with your friends or family or even by yourself!! The pizza was good but I enjoyed the polenta appetizer a little too much!! I really liked that the server was offering custom drinks to the guests- I missed out because I don't drink but I was tempted to try a big of island flavor. Next time for sure!!

Super cute and eclectic spot in Santurce. The pizza was great 8/10 (flavor was there but the middle was a bit soggy) Service was wonderful! Service animals are welcomed which made the experience overall even better. Will definitely be back to try the other pies

Excellent Neapolitan style pizza! Pizza's here are super innovative. Our waitress was so friendly and helped us pick out our pizzas and would gas up the ones we'd enjoy the most. As a group of 5 we shared a total of 3 pizzas: the beetaroni, chorizo y batata, and the tropi-pepperoni. If you're going to do pineapple on pizza, tropi-pepperoni is definitely the way to go. Instead of huge chunks, they're thinly sliced and it reminded me of similar hot honey styled pizzas. The chorizo y batata had a right amount of kick to it. The beetaroni was definitely the star of the show. Especially from such an unsuspecting topping. Beets on pizza don't normally sound good but you have to taste this to believe it. I also loved the ricotta with the pizza. Overall they toe the line between unconventional flavors and satisfying pizza. Highly recommend!

The food here was absolutely incredible - possibly one of the best Caesar salads I've had in my lifetime which was a big surprise. We sat at the bar and our service was still amazing. Our servers were all super friendly and sharing recommendations with us for the island. We felt like we had the best seats in the house because we were watching the pizzas be made in real time which was so cool. This place has an awesome vibe.

I am a little ashamed this was my favorite meal during my San Juan trip - but it absolutely was!! I was in PR for work and decided to walk over here for dinner on a Saturday night and am so glad I did. The drink I ordered was so good. My server was extremely friendly and explained the menu well. I took his suggestions for both pizza and dessert and didn't regret it. (Although when I come back, I absolutely need to try the hand-pulled in house mozzarella). I ordered la Santurcina pie and I ate the whole thing. This was the first completely clean plate for me in a long time it was beyond excellent. Then the dessert - it was a banana bread pudding and I will dream about this little dessert for a long time. It was phenomenal. I wanted to try the appetizers - but I can only submit so much for a work expense meal!! I will absolutely be back and HIGHLY recommend.

    Cocktail

Small but nice. Second time to try here and cocktails are very good. Wait staff is very attentive and a good place to relax. On this meal, the cocktail was called a NO SOY UN ESPRESSO MARTINI, bourbon and coffee, very good. The pizza was a Tropi pepperoni... pineapple, jalapenos and pepperoni. A very good combo of spice and sweet. Can't miss out on this place!

    Tropi-Pineapple Pizza

The food was outstanding! We had the pique and the guava sesame wings--both were delicious!! The outside was crispy and the inside was perfectly cooked! I loved the heat of the pique sauce, it was a deeper, smokier heat than buffalo sauce. We also ordered the tropi-pepperoni pizza. I'm not usually a fan of pineapple on pizza but I figured this was the place to try it. It was fantastic! Definitely worth a visit!!

This photo is an example of how FLAVORFUL this food is. Didn't even get a chance to take a pic and here is my bf scraping the last of the ice cream. We had a butternut squash pizza, a 5 cheese pizza and a carrot cake ice cream, we devoured it all. The ambiance is chill, the people are friendly and witty, will definitely be coming back.

Kept seeing a bunch of reviews on how amazing this place was and honestly it's up there…read more To start off, I'm not really a sweets guy so my take is going to be a little off from the general public. We were able to snag a reservation but for a late time which was about an hour and a half before close. The service was super great but one thing I wished they mentioned that the bottled water was going to be a $40 charge lol. Makes sense for any upscale restaurant though. Should've mentioned we wanted tap so fair warning, ask cause you WILL get charged haha. We had a group of 10 and for how big the group was, the food came out pretty fast. I don't think we ever had a time between drinks to entrees where we were waiting for food to come out. We got the watermelons mojito for drinks since it was the most raved about. It was good but personally nothing crazy for me. 8/10 score on that. We also curry popcorn chicken, the ahi tuna lollipops, the empanadillas and the goat cheese quesadillas for apps and honestly overall 9/10. This is where I don't like the sweetness part of this meal. The empanadillas were what I was most excited for but it was more sweet then savory which sort of lose my appetite a little. I think if you like that kind of taste then it's going to be good. It wasn't a bad taste at all. Just too sweet for my liking. The curry popcorn chicken was good and the lollipops were great. Again, nothing crazy. The goat cheese quesadillas was good as well but again, too sweet for my liking. Now on to the entree, they didn't have the porkchop since we came late so I ended up getting the porkchop belly dish. When it came out, it looked amazing but then I got a whiff of it and smelled cinnamon. That's when I was sort of disappointed. It was like eating pork but tasting Cinnamon Toast Crunch and as said before, it tasted great but too sweet for me. This one was way too sweet to where it seemed like a dessert item. I just had poor luck and got one of the one items that were sweet. This doesn't tank the rating down whatsoever because I also should've read it had cinnamon. It would've been great if they made a dipping sauce or something to pair it with and not have it on the pork belly itself. I got to try other dishes my friends got which were good as well but I wish I got to try something else. If I came back I would try the sold out item which was the pork shank or the sea bass. I know for a fact the sea bass was amazing. Had a bite of it and thought "I'll come back for that" Overall, 10/10 experience and nothing bad about the place but gotta try different items when I go next time. I understand the hype now

I suggest doing reservations at least 3 weeks in advanced if you want to time that you want especially during peak days like Fri, Sat, etc. When we came in, the staff were very hospitable to us. This establishment has was very intimate, well lit; upon entry the music was a bit loud but then became manageable for casual conversation. We saw a good amount of large parties as well so they have good reputation for celebratory outings. We started off with drinks, ordered the Paper Plane, was very sour but wasn't bad in my opinion (Rating: 7.1/10), but the Perfect Lady on the other hand, was amazing lavender goodness, I don't think I have had a bad lavender drink yet from any place I have had so glad they kept the train going (Rating: 9.0/10). Next, for appetizers we ordered the Empanadas, that have different flavors everyday. The day that we came, the flavor was BBQ pulled pork, which I personally absolutely loved. Crispy, not hard exterior, hot and fresh (Rating 8.8/10). For the entrees, we ordered the Tacos De Mero Empanados (Fish Tacos with Chipotle Coleslaw) and the Milanesa De Pollo. The fish tacos were definitely the best dish at the table, came with 3 tacos that had rich flavors, ordered from the "Daily Specials" section of the menu (Rating 8.4/10). Next, the Milanesa De Polla was a large, breaded chicken breast that was honestly good for multiple people, came with side of arugula and cherry tomatoes with light dressing (almost nonexistent to be honest). It came with a sauce on top, like an aioli that wasn't bad honestly. This dish was a good safe option if you aren't sure what to get (Rating 8.1/10). I wanted to originally order the Pastelon De Amarillos but they were out of stock of that dish during the visit. Overall, Santaella offers pretty extensive menu with foundations of a high quality restaurant. Their service during our visit was definitely top of the line, no complaints. I just wished they had more than 2 single use bathrooms as the line definitely added up which could pose an issue for guests with urinary urgency/frequency. Pricing also wasn't horrible, was able to get a full course dinner for 2 for under $150 so can't really complain, just check their menu before going if you want specifics. They also have Rooftop Sundays at Azotea for those who are interested in their alternative dining setting. This place was good nonetheless and I would recommend it, is right in between fine dining and casual making it good for those dressier date nights.

Everything we ordered was very good, and on an extremely hot day, I was especially appreciative of how well the A/C was keeping up. I was actually a little cold--and I'm never cold. It felt so nice after getting overheated right before we got there. One thing I noticed while wandering around Old San Juan is that some restaurants likely survive on location and foot traffic alone, while others earn people seeking them out. Semilla definitely felt like the latter. It's tucked just around the corner from some of the busiest pedestrian areas, so it felt like we escaped the crowds for a little while without actually going very far. Overall, I'd happily come back. If you're staying nearby and looking for a good meal without being surrounded by the busiest tourist crowds, Semilla is well worth checking out.

I guess this was purposefully done as I've heard it's nuts here on Fridays & Saturdays. When you get dropped off at the main road when you walk down it takes you to all the action in a few hundred feet. This place was still packed, but it was popping, the place to be at night I'd guess. They've got all JJ da of restaurants, bars, & clubs here. Tons of music, & a good time.
