Had the calamari, shrimp, and burrata app. Highly recommend the burrata. The sauce on the shrimp is delicious...the texture of the calamari was nice, but wished I asked for a marinara sauce, instead of the cilantro, which came off a bit like mayo. Had the octopus main and a chorizo pizza. Loved the chorizo on the pizza, and the tamponade on the octopus. Had the passion fruit creme brûlée...my daughter ordered it...those who follow me know I rarely order dessert...I drink more, have fresh fruit or cheese. Fantastic Drinks & Vibes! Stopped in just for drinks, and let me tell you--the bartender understood the assignment. 1. Asked for a lavender drink with rum, and they absolutely delivered. Floral, smooth, perfection. 2. Had the Santo Pepi with vodka--delicious and dangerously easy to drink. Coolest part? They had their main drink menu on their wall. Love the concept! Only downside: they've stopped carrying Ron del Barrilito, so the 7:9 drink was off the table. A little sad, and it'd be great if they updated the website to reflect that. Otherwise? Super cool spot, good for a chill night or a date. The san juan pizza, essentially a pepperoni, is phenomenal. The crust is so fresh and soft. And they load it up to the max with pepperoni. Nice. The side of veggies is worth ordering, too. It is small enough to be a shareable side, but the veggies are high quality and really well seasoned. The drinks are five stars, too. I recommend the maracurye, a refreshing cocktail served in a coupe that comes bright orange, but it's a perfect symphony of flavors. Naturally, many fruity cocktails in PR feature rum, but this one has rye alongside passion fruit, cointreau, lime, and mint. It is lightly tart and nicely potent. The vibe of the place is cool, dim, mysterious, lot of neon and religious iconography. What do La O mean? No one seems to know. During a visit to Puerto Rico, my family and I stopped in for an early dinner at La O. Our tour around Old San Juan was cut short due to rain, so we decided to hit the restaurant early in the hopes to avoid the crazy tourists flowing through. The restaurant has a very cool vibe and ambiance akin to a church. A lot of religious iconography lines the walls, but not in an over the top obtrusive way. It's more stylish and interesting. The staff was a bit slow to their roll, we waited a very long time for our drinks and the food came out extremely staggered. We were disappointed that the octopus was not available, but that's no reason not to enjoy a meal.. just a commentary that we didn't get to try one of the dishes we were hoping to. The cocktails were reallly good and applaud them for flavor, style and authenticity. If you come here, the bar and the cocktails are definitely the way to go. We also ordered: - The three arancinis with varying sauces :: this was a bit too sweet for our liking - Skirt steak with mushroom sauce :: reallllllly tasty, nicely cooked and the sauce was superb - a must get - Stuffed Mushrooms with Chorizo :: oh man, i loved this.. Most of the restaurants in Old San Juan were packed, and La Ó was able to accommodate us with no reservation. All four in our group were vegetarian and there were SO many items on the menu. Cocktails and mocktails were great- specifically their ginger & lavender lemonade. We got the hummus and arancini to start, then shared a pumpkin pizza, beetroot pasta, and beetroot salad. The food was amazing and I was happy with how flavorful our vegetarian dishes were. I was also impressed by how unique their menu was. Lots of dishes I had never seen before! Our server was great!! When we initially got seated at 6pm the host did warn us there was a reservation at 7:30 (it was holiday season). We did not feel rushed at all and our food came out at a decent pace. Everything we had, and we had a lot, was wonderful. Started with the calamari and octopus appetizers. Calamari was tender, not greasy, wonderful . Octopus also tender and delicious. Shared the grouper with risotto. Although the risotto was not as creamy as one would expect, the Parmesan flavor was on point. Grouper was beautifully cooked. I was determined to choose something amazing and La Ó definitely delivered! We had the arancini trio and lamb sliders to start. Both delicious. A pitcher of Sangria, that went down sooo easy! My fiancé had the steak and I had the stuffed pepper salad with a side of risotto. Both of my dishes were explosions of flavor- in the best way possible. The pizza was AMAZING. I had the vegan pizza. It's hard to find vegan pesto, and the crust was maybe the best I've ever had. HOWEVER... the absolute SLOWEST service I've ever had in my life. I called and he said he could put our name on the list and it would be available in like 1 1/2 hours... that's fine. He called 2 hours later at 7:50 pm and said the table would be ready in 5-10 10 minutes, so we rushed over. We got there at 8:00 pm. We stood there for 20 minutes while they "got the table ready". We saw it sitting there the whole time. They didn't seat us until 8:22...... so frustrating. We sat down and we didn't get our food until 9:30 PM!!!!!!!! So ridiculous. We were starving. Two members of our party ordered fish and they brought it out like 25 minutes before those who ordered pizzas.... So we didn't even get to either. Of course the Americans want pizza on their LAST night in San Juan! A quick search and nothing was really popping out at us, however, Yelp sent me an email on "daily local finds to try out" and it was for Old San Juan! BOOM, La O' was the first resturant to pop-up and surprisingly they had an epic pizza menu! Their pizza menu also included a hefty amount of vegan options too! Unfortunately, we were unable to eat outside since there was a private party going on and; therefore, was sat within the narrow area by the kitchen doors. This was actually prime seating for us because we kept creeping on all the food that was coming and going! We opted for pepperoni pizza and the plated grouper ontop of a three-cheese rissoto. For dessert we selected the passion fruit and coconut based creme brûlée. I wouldn't order the grouper again due to the dish being overly heavy and salty. I didn't exactly feel well after eating it. In addition, the creme brûlée was served cold and the top was flashed melted but the combo was offputting. The real takeaway from the dining experience was how epic the $9 sangria was. It was huge, delicious and I wish I ordered a pitcher for myself. read more

Strolling around, we noticed a line of people waiting for tables at La O. An hour later, we put our name on the list for and it was worth another hour's wait. Not only was my "Lavender She Rose" cocktail delicious, but reading the menu, each combination was just a bit different than what you'd normally find. We had a difficult time choosing what to have! Started with grouper and arancini. The grouper skewer was delicious. Finding grilled veg on the skewer, too was a treat. Arancini were good - not the huge, lumpy blobs found outside of Italy. I had the beet pasta - light and flavorful. The pasta was good and not over cooked. Hub had the pizza which he thought he wouldn't finish but knew it wouldn't be as tasty the next day. Wow, this is my first ever yelp review because I'm pissed off. Our table of 6 spent 400 and after an hour and a half were dividing the check when they asked us to leave! Because they needed the table? Are you serious? There were 8 other tables open, I counted because I manage a restaurant and that's what we do lol. Super slow service that forgot half the order because they didn't write anything down and the food was pretty bad to be honest. But how dare you ask us for the table, congrats, you got 2 more free tables but lost us forever. Would never comeback. There are so many amazing spots in VSJ, go to those not this place. read more
