Lived in Randolph for at least 25-years and have not been to La Scala. This was our 1st and last time. Our waiter was horrendous. Did not mention the specials (which I found there when going to the bathroom); Did not offer list of sides - only stated for sides salad and pasta; Did not write our orders and when he repeated he forgot what we order. Ordered: - Clams on the 1/2 shell - $$$$ for 6. And they were small. More like littlenecks than Cherrystones. Not very clean. :( - Mussels Marinara - good size but very very salty. NO bread for dipping. - Meatballs which were huge but less meat and mainly breadcrumbs. :( - Garlic Bread - did not mention that it was topped with cheese. Hardly any garlic. - Lamb chops were cooked and seasoned perfectly. - Veal parmigiana - portion was thin. Not very crispy. Only the sauce was good. read more

Got take out early dinner yesterday for the first time. Called and gave my order over the phone. They are cash only, and I was prepared. Pick up was easy and the food was really nicely packaged to prevent spillage. Food was really good: broth for the mussels was fantastic, and the container was filled with lots of decent sized mussels. Seafood pasta was good (shrimp, scallop, lobster, and crab), pasta was perfect el dente. Fettuccini Alfredo was perfect for nibbling (since we got pretty full on the other food). Lobster bisque was also good, nice and rich and thick. Will definitely be back when the Italian craving hits! read more

Went there on 5/9 for my wife's birthday. The food was amazing we have been there a couple of times. My wife ordered Chicken Parmigiana I ordered Chicken Boca Banton which was delicious. My Father in law ordered lasagna my mother in law ordered Shrimp and our son had spaghetti and meatballs. Dessert was great. The service was exceptional the waitress was very attentive and friendly. Came here for a graduation dinner. Everything about the experience was great. Staff nice and accommodating. Atmosphere nice and clean. The only thing for dinner time the place was a ghost town?! Unfortunately my family and I have been coming here for over 20 years, I ordered the oysters rocker-fellow and got deathly ill from them. My server was outstanding I told her that I tasted a horrible oyster that had an ammonia taste to it and I sent them back my partner was fine thank god the one he ate was okay, but I had a fever of 103 and was deathly sick for 3 days. There food has gone down hill and the owner is a complete cheap snob who thinks his food is great and that there's nothing wrong with it, restaurants like that always fail. This classic Italian restaurant has a warm and cozy vibe and the wait staff was great. however the for is subpar. If you are looking for homemade Italian you will be very disappointed. definitely store bought meatballs and the veal is more patty then veal. a place like this should be using real veal. We wanted to like it, but it seems like a restaurant living off it's reputation, without really trying anymore. we also got a side order of broccoli rabe which was equally disappiinting. overcooked and I had to pour off a half a cup of oil before I could even take a bite. not a very appetizing vegetable. read more

Italian family approved I recently went to this joint with my family after a friend recommended it to us. Little did she know, her recommendation would change our lives forever... Everything on the menu looked so good, and I ordered the Shrimp Scampi. These shrimp were so tender and soft, they had me licking my lips saying "mmmm mmm MMM" all throughout the duration of this delicious meal. My family also enjoyed the meals they got. We were so full when we left. My only critique of this place: It was 96 degrees outside on the day we went. I think it was 97 degrees inside the restaurant. Come to learn this place does not have AC. If that's the case, next time I'm rolling up in a bathing suit and a miniature swimming pool, ready to DEVOUR! read more

We have been meaning to stop in at La Scala for a while now and we finally did. It did not disappoint!! We were early so decided to sit at the bar for a change. Julie was our bartender/server and she makes a great Cosmopolitan and my friend enjoyed cold bottled beers. I loved my dinner salad with their house dressing (I'm going back for lunch next week to buy some!) and our meals were superb! The bread was fresh and served with butter which I actually prefer rather than oil. I always order the chicken Marsala here (always excellent) but they had a beef tenderloin Marsala special the day we visited so I opted for that. It was cooked exactly the way I wanted it and was perfect with the side of Linguine made for a perfect meal. My friend ordered the seafood medley and he said it was the best he has ever had. We both enjoyed the pastas that came with the meal. We split the Raspberry Sorbet for dessert which tasted homemade.We can't wait to go back!! Thank you for a very positive dining experience. I had a friend pick me up an old time favorite the other day that I use to order frequently before the addition was put on and even shortly after the addition was on and let me say what a disappointment!!! Portion size smaller bay scallops instead of sea and the sause wasn't even close to what it use to be. I won't be going back anytime soon! read more

Number one if I could give them a zero star I would went there spend $300 on food and wine. The wine alone was $200 which was great but their food was absolutely horrifying bad. Their oysters were sour and gone off. Their lamb was frozen, not cooked properly and was tasteless then in the middle of the bad food, we seen a mouse running through the restaurant when I told the staff they did not look surprised please please do not go there. I used to love this restaurant. It was always my favorite until 2-3 years ago. I had raved to my friend about La Scala and when we finally go she gets a ravioli dish that was frozen on the inside. So clearly microwaved. I had raved about the chocolate soufflé desert. Only to find it not on the menu. My own meal was like warm and didn't taste as it has before. The owners wife who man's the front was rude. It was just a thoroughly disgusting experience. 2 stars because I still love their dinner salad and bread. Every so often I debate going back to try again, but their inconsistency with the food and service reminds me that it is a place that shall remain in the used to be good section of my mind. I have frequented the La Scala restaurant for many years. The food is wonderful, and the prices are very reasonable. Last week we were celebrating a family birthday there when a mouse came out onto the floor of the dining room. We called over the waitress and told her. She was pleasant, didn't seem at all shocked, and said she would tell the manager. He told her to tell us that after the restaurant closed for the evening that he was going to have an exterminator come in. The fact that the waitress and manager were so nonchalant about the sighting, makes me believe that this is not a new occurrence. If mice are coming into the restaurant floor, what goes on in the kitchen. I have gone there for the last time. read more

Recently had my sister's baby sprinkle here and we could've been more pleased with our decision! Michael and his staff were so friendly and accommodating. Great service and delicious food, too! *This review does not pertain to the delicious food, just bad customer service and some HEAVY small d energy* My family and I have frequented our favorite local restaurant since I was a child. We routinely choose La Scala for any celebrations including Birthdays, personal achievements, Covid game nights, divorces (well, there haven't been any of those yet but I imagine I would want some rich, hearty carb-loaded Italian cuisine if my heart was ripped from my...I digress). Last night, we decided on a nice cash-only family dinner courtesy of my deceased mothers' "extra cash" pile (thanks, mom) so I telephoned La Scala inquiring about socially-distanced dine-in wait times. I was told about 20 minutes, so I proceeded to put on a bra (do you even REALIZE what a big night this was?!), risked my precious life ice skating across my driveway to get in the car, and drove to the restaurant. How exciting, a night out, finally! I...pulled....up to La Scala about 7 or 8 and I yelled to my daddy "go park, see ya later!" and followed the delicious wafts of lemon and cream sauce, fresh baked Italian bread from the North End, and wine flavored egg-battered Chicken Esquisito (MUST TRY!) and I was met with a PACK of about 20 other masked people also awaiting orgasmic Italian cuisine. I went up to the host and asked to put my name in and inquired the wait time. This, is when I was met with the smallest small d energy I have ever experienced here at La Scala (I am assuming the owner based on his casual Saturday night attire and intense chauvinistic demeanor). Small d energy rudely said "the wait is going to be an hour" to which I replied confused "Oh, I called 10 minutes ago and she told me about 20 minutes". The hostess next to small d was all "20 minutes? Who would have told her 20 minutes?!". Well gee, maybe it was Debra in the parking lot dragging a ciggy, or Sally flirting with the line cook in the kitchen, how am I to know, Dottie? Small d then orated loudly, in all caps "I HAD TO ADJUST THE LIST! OKAY?!" ogling me like the delicious snack I was, acting as though I could not comprehend his words (look, my undergrad GPA was 2.4 but like, I've gotten more studious in Graduate school okay?! I was just drunk all the time!) My blood pressure began to rise, and I'm talking WORSE than my gestational hypertension man, like I started seeing RED and also I was hungry and my underwire was stabbing my now sweaty underboob. But you wouldn't know anything about that, would you teeny testicles? "...so it changed from 20 minutes to an hour in the past few minutes?" I inquired. "I HAD TO CHANGE IT, IT CHANGED, I HAD TO ADJUST IT, IT WASNT CHANGED!" he bellowed in front of the entire lounge that illegally exceeded 25% Covid capacity. The red color turned to black and my hanger quickly took over, the meaty saucy smells from the kitchen getting stronger with every millisecond, I was ready to grab his nose and twist it so hard.... Was it my matted tangled hair and semi-saggy breasts that offended him? Was it the Old Navy brand North-Face jacket dupe that left him so disgusted, or my bare natural face? Did I remind him of his deceased ex-girlfriend? Either way, I am flattered I caused such an angered reaction from this wee little d lad (because let's face it-I'm pretty lonely during this pandemic so any reaction really does it for me) but I composed myself and remembered I was not cursed with such a small pickle, and that he has probably had a hard (or not so hard) life. "Ok, I am just stating that when I called I was told 20 minutes and now you have all of these people in here, risking my life and theirs all packed in like smelly sardines (crap, was that smell emanating from me? I lost most of my nasal senses after the Covid ransacked my body) and you're yelling at me that the wait is now an hour". He continued muttering something about having to change the goddamned list, as I pushed my way in slow motion through the crowd, and the lovely lady in the parking lot said "Wow, I didn't expect THAT crowd in there, doesn't look like 25% to me!" and I agreed, my blood returning to normal temperatures because I was finally understood. She got me. We got each other. And I love her for that (missed connections anyone?) Anyway, the food is amazing but just make sure you avoid Mr. teeny peewee. read more

Overall a very nice family style Italian restaurant. One thing that surprised me was that this place is cash only. Fortunately we had enough cash with us, but they do have an ATM on site. There are two parking lots that straddle the restaurant, but the lots are a little small there is an overflow lot across the side street behind the bar (same owners?). We came here around 8:30 pm on a Saturday night--it was packed!! We were able to be immediately seated in the main dining room. It looks like there were multiple dining areas and a large bar area in the back. The menu was filled with the usual Italian fare. There were also some specials on the board for consideration. In the end, my partner had the chicken creation (chicken breast layered with prosciutto, cheese, with a white wine sauce). He selected a house salad as his side. I had the chicken park with a side of linguini. The portions were huge! My partner gave me a bite of his chicken creation, which I didn't really care for. I felt the white wine sauce was a little overpowering. The chicken parm was delicious. Service was good; I don't have any complaints. We started with the fried calamari which was bland and tasteless. I had a veal dish that was supposed to be made in a wine & butter sauce and it tasted like garlic & pepper. The best part of my meal was the ravioli that accompanied my meal. That was tasty with the marinara sauce. Needless to say, I didn't eat very much of my main course. The service felt rushed even though there were enough empty tables. The decor seemed dated and could use a refresh. It definitely seemed like a place lots of locals go. I was expecting better, maybe I will give it another try sometime but not in a rush to return. read more

The food and service are incredible here. I love all the food that they offer, but I absolutely love their eggplant rollatini. They also have a separate room to hold small events there. I had hosted my baby shower there for 70 guests buffet style. The space was nice and quite spacious for my guests and there was enough room to have a large backdrop and space to open our baby shower gifts to show our guests. Just be mindful that the place only accepts cash as payment but they do have an ATM on premises. That did not bother us since that is our preferred way to pay and that keeps the prices on their food very reasonable! read more

I've been going to La Scala for many years although intermittently. There were times I thought it was simply ordinary, on occasion I thought they were trying to upgrade, other times such as today, its throw the food on a plate, skimpy of the substance, and now I'm convinced that it's only about the $$, the pasta was soggy like it had been sitting for quite some time, definitely not fresh, same for the veal parm, therefore doubtful I would ever return. It looks like they're trying to increase the profits for a sale. The most tell tale sign was that nobody, neither the waiter nor the owner/hostess eveen bothed to ask how the food was, guess they already knew iot was bad, so then why ask.... At this time I am Boycotting La Scala because it's a Cash Only Restaurant. That means, although it's a thriving Business, they don't care about the fact that you have to pay a $2.75 fee when you use their ATM. So, until they stop this Penny Pinching process, I won't be eating there. I gave three stars because the Employee's are very nice People. read more

Very nice Italian atmosphere ...especially the bar area... The barmaids and waitresses were very good Stepped in without a reservation for a party of 4. We waited approx 40 min. Apps were a calamari and eggplant RollaTini ...Both were very good. Calamari fresh and cooked perfect with a marinara sauce and cocktail sauce ... The bread was awesome ....fresh Italian with A bowl full of butter. I ordered the Chicken Bona Boca. A Chicken Marsala dish. The marsala sauce was good with plenty of mushrooms but the Chicken was over cooked and rubbery. The side of angel hair and marinara was so so ... The Shrimp esquisito was said to be blah and over cooked I guess we are spoiled living so close to the North End. read more

I have been going to LaScala for every important occasion for over 40 years and have never been disappointed. Today was no exception when we took our youngest and his girlfriend to dinner for his 26th birthday. The food was phenomenal and Caroline, our server was lovely, attentive and helpful. My only suggestion is to provide some more gluten free dishes/sides. Excellent meal and a lovely afternoon!! read more

Went here for dinner this week, food was good, not great, but definitely good. I had the Chicken Margarita and Kelly had the Chicken Parmigiane. I enjoyed mine but Kelly's tasted bland to me. Kelly had the Lobster Bisque which she enjoyed. I had a Tomato and Mozzarella salad, which was good buy the vinaigrette dressing did not agree with my tastebuds. Service was great, our waitress Sarah was very pleasant and quick to offer advice on what to get. I thought that the prices were spot on, sure it's on the higher side of average but this isn't the Olive Garden either. Biggest draw backs were the limited amount of parking. I don't want to be walking the streets of Randolph on my way to an "upscale" Italian restaurant. Also, the place is cash only, however they do have an ATM inside and it's only a $1.75 fee. read more

Very good food--huge portions, so be prepared either to share an appetizer and an entree, or otherwise (unless you're super hungry!) you may end up bringing some home. This is like the really good Italian restaurants that your parents (or grandparents, or whomever) would take you to, for special treats. It's always busy, so the food is always fresh. And its customer base tends to be very loyal, which is also a good sign in an Italian place. The caprese salad is a steal at the price. Their mozzarella balls are small and freshh, and not overly salty or stringy. Plenty of basil. Generally good, ripe tomatoes (but not always--hence the 4 stars. Believe me, I think I am being pretty harsh--they really deserve more like 4.5+ stars! In fact, I have other motives, as I don't want them to become too crowded!!) Other stalwart appetizers include their rolled eggplant (like a meal in itself) and their mussels. Calamari is very good, but not heavenly (I'm from RI--what can I say?) Main courses are where they shine. Osso bucco is the real stuff. Their veal tenderloin is really like a braised veal that is true Italian--tender, almost shredded, and full of flavor. Their marinara (gravy, really, as it does have a meat base to it) is excellent, and it also does NOT taste like canned sauce--trust me on this one, people. It tastes like it's made with love, like your grandmother from Itri or Napoli may have made for you. The traditional "Italian American" specialties are dynamite. The cacciatories are particularly good, if not a tad greasy, but in reality, that is more typical of the "Italian side" of the cooking than the "American side" (I have spent plenty of time on both sides). BUT, unlike on the Italian side, the meat is boneless--that's a bit of a shame... The best choices are with either the seafood fra diavolo (with homemade pasta) with lobster, clams, scallops, shrimp and mussels in a spicy tomato sauce (a staple on any good restaurant in Providence, folks, and here it's at 75% of the price, or with the homemade paparedelle pasta with wild mushrooms in a creamy sauce laced with reggiano and truffle oil. At $16, it is an absolutely decadent steal, and should be a permanent part of their menu (who do I have to bribe for that?)! Yes, it is that good. And if you found homemade past with such wonderful fresh ingredients on the North End, you'd be lucky if it only cost you $42 for that treasure! Mangia! And Gary C (et al.) don't worry, obviously you don't know anything about Italian food or what to eat, so I'll be happy to take your seat!!
