I drove myself and my family from Minneapolis to go to La Shish and it was even more amazing than when I remembered! We were greeted with a warm smile from a very helpful host and everyone was friendly. As soon as I bit into the warm pita and whipped garlic, time had stood still! I ordered the chicken schwarma and my mom got the beef shish kafta! All of the meat was family style and the flavors were spectacular, you just can't go wrong! I didn't know what to expect coming here with a group of colleagues for lunch. I thought, okay just another Mediterranean restaurant, which we ate earlier in the week and we're having Mediterranean AGAIN. There was a big group of us, 15 people. I looked at the menu and it was really hard to decide what to order, especially for vegan/vegetarian options. So I reluctantly (not knowing if I made the right choice) ended up ordering the vegetable ghallabba that substitutes the meat with potato with rice and crushed lentil soup & strawberry mango smoothie. The food took a little bit to get there because of the size of our group, but they did a good job of providing plenty of naan bread with garlic dip (WHICH I LOVE HOW THEY MAKE IT...SOO GOOD!) with tomato dip. The bread was heated in an open oven nearby and it was so good, that I was enjoying the bread and smoothie that I almost didn't care that the food being late. But once my vegetable ghallabba arrived, I was surprised how flavorful and tasty it was! Perfectly flavored without over powering, but with the side of rice it was the perfect balance and great tasting dish. I really liked how they substituted the meat with potato which many other restaurants don't have that on the menu. It's very good and if I were to not ever try it, I could've easily underestimated how good this dish was! It was kinda pricey, but worth it for the quality of food that I had. LaShish has been a longtime favorite. Even after the hiatus in operations, the food is still good. In comparison to how the food is now prepared versus how it used to be the pita bread is the only thing that has changed. I had the Shish Tawook to go. The Mediterranean Salad is the best at this establishment. I don't know what they make the dressing out of but they should seriously market it and sell it at the hostess stand. Rumor has it that the spicy garlic sauce that they serve takes a ton of garlic to make one five gallon bucket. Mmmmmm.... I love this sauce and I'd pay good money for it as well. The chicken kabob is always my favorite. The rice is buttery and a hefty portion of chicken and rice leaves you needing more pita and garlic sauce. It's a racket, I tell ya! Thank goodness the food is delicious. I walked in and wasn't acknowledged by any of the 5 people around the front counter. After a while, I had to announce myself and request my order. I don't know which is worse: to be followed around an establishment as if I'm going to steal something or bring ignored when I need help! I am a black woman and I'm sick and tired of some unsympathetic/unempathetic businesses treating blacks either with indifference or contempt. As nation of immigrants, we still have a long way to go. This is not my first negative (seemingly racial) experience with La Shish but I still patronize trying to give the benefit of the doubt given my sensitivity over certain issues. Came here to La Shish and honestly it's very nice place but the service was not on point. We waited for a server to take our order and he never kept checking on us. The best item that we enjoy were the Wings. Although they were lollipop wings they lacked meat on there. The sauce was openpit which was really good. We also had the Tomato Kibbie and it was that good to be honest. We felt it wasn't fresh . The garlic and bread were probably the best part of the meal. read more

To begin, horrible experience. This has been the absolute worst restaurant experience. To begin we walked in and it took 5 minutes for a server to greet and seat us even though the restaurant was practically half empty. The manager then came over, who was really nice, to greet us and we proceeded to order. We ordered the La Shisha tray and we were told it'll take 25 minutes which was fine as it was a large order. As we were waiting we can hear all the commotion going on in the kitchen which was not a good sign. The kitchen seemed to be extremely backed up and disorganized with the servers and manager shouting out orders back and forth right in front of all the customers. All that shouting made the experience unpleasant. Now, for the food. They first brought out the bread, cold... which was the first red flag. Then the hummus, baba ghanoush, and salad were all extremely sour. The three soups we received were either bland or extremely salty. The food was all cold. The shish kabobs were undercooked while the kafta kabobs were over cooked, cold, and dry. The rest of the food, including the rice were really cold. We honestly didn't put a dent in our plates as we just couldn't eat it. The restrooms definitely need some looking after. It's really dirty with no paper towels or toilet paper and it was infested with a ton of flies. I honestly don't understand where the rest of these good reviews come from. Summary, if you don't want to read all that lol. Staff is nice, friendly, and disorganized. Food is either cold, undercooked, overcooked, bland, or extremely salty. If I could give 0 stars I would. Three of us for Sunday lunch. Hubby and daughter both order an appetizer sampler platter. Actually a good choice - but - if two people are ordering the sampler: you only need one order of hummus and one order of baba ganoush. The servings are plentiful. With the sampler they had falafel, kibbee, grape leaves with a filling, spinach pie. Of those, the spinach pie was a disappointment - but the rest were great. The hummus and baba ganoush were beyond great - they were spectacular. Both were moist and creamy. I usually don't like baba ganoush - but I thought this was delicious. I ordered Chicken Ghallabah with almond rice pilaf. Delicious - and the portion could easily serve three people. Loved it. That said - I do believe that the almond rice pilaf could very easily have been a commercial mix that I buy at the grocery store. Would I have ordered the dish knowing it came with commercial rice pilaf? Yes - and I enjoyed it. Our meals came with hot bread and a delicious garlic dipping sauce. I must learn how to make that garlic dipping sauce - it was over the moon delicious. As a side note - we packaged up the baba ganoush and the hummus along with some of the delicious bread. One day later in the styrofoam container - the bread is still soft - and the hummus/baba ganoush is STILL delicious. Check out LaShish if you are in the area. read more

In the memories of many, the original La Shish was a game changer. In its original run, this change set the standard for the menu and aesthetics for all the small Lebanese joints that dot the region. It was exciting to hear that the restaurant was being revived in 2011, after going under in 2011. I have given it a few tries in the 10 years that this new version has been open, and the sad truth is that they are doing a disservice to the memory of the original. The food is mediocre and, on a recent visit, staffing problems and disorganization caused my party to leave after ordering a plate of runny and flavorless hummus and realizing we could get better food elsewhere. Try El Ameer in Dearborn or Shish Palace in Allen Park for superior food. read more

The freshness, flavor, portion size, and overall presentation makes this thee best middle eastern restaurant in the state of Michigan. The prices are extremely affordable and the service is first class. The best thing about this place is all of their menu items are extremely healthy while at the same time delicious! They use only the best ingredients and it comes through in every bite. During CoVid we've done a lot of to go meals and Hamza always takes great care of us and treats us like family. I saw the other review of this restaurant, and I felt it should be reviewed on its food and service, not the former boss. So, with that being said, my fiancé and future in laws had lunch their today. The restaurant was very clean and spacious. We were immediately greeted and seated upon entering the restaurant. We ordered large meal for the table, deboned chicken, rice, hummus, Tabbouleh,salad . We were also served a large basket of hot rolls with butter and salsa. Which was unlimited and very good. Our Waitress was very attentive , checking on us several times during our meal. The atmosphere was nice, quiet . Only drawback was a draft of cold air from window and door, we did request to have our seat moved away from the window without any problem. However, there was still a cold draft each time the door opened. However , the chicken was seasoned well and very tender. The salad and rice was good as well. They gave us large portions of food. Had enough to take home for left overs. The bill was 50 dollars with a 20 percent tip added . Tip was not required but warranted due to the excellent service and food. They serve a warm bread, baked fresh in a brick oven with garlic spread and their version of a salsa. I love the garlic spread. Forget watching your carbs today and enjoy the bread. YUM! Service is the worst. I called at 9:20 and was advised that they close at 9:30. My daughter called at 10 pm advised that if she arrived by 10:30 she can order as they close at 10. She raced there, made it at 10:15 and was denied service. Even though the person who answered the phone remembered telling her to come in. We have the largest population of Arabic population in the country. This being the case a different restaurant will be getting our money moving forward my time is important and after all that time wasted trying to get LaShish we no longer had the opportunity to eat for night because everything was close. I have been going here for several years. The people that work here are polite and provide great service. The food is wonderful and always full of flavor and cooked well. Clean environment and the lady that provides the theme for the decorations does a excellent job and is a great person herself.
