I'm actually really disappointed with this place and their lack of organization and professionalism. We were seated at the long booths that happen to be right next to the kitchen window where servers pick up the food. Maybe because of where we were seated, but we kept overhearing our waitress and what appeared to be the restaurant manager, arguing. So that's not exactly enjoyable. We ordered X combo platter and they brought us the wrong combo platter. I will say that the food was still very delicious but it wasn't what we ordered. It was very frustrating because it felt like we had to keep waving our waitress down for more napkins, water, to take the check, etc. It makes the guests feel like a burden. It just seemed very unorganized and that other people, who were seated after us, got their food before us. I definitely will not be coming back. read more

Been coming here since I was a kid & I rave about their food! My only complaint is it's 3 hours away so I only get to go when I'm visiting my family in the area. I've had the platters numerous times which are perfect when trying to feed multiple people & do so inexpensively. I adore using the fresh hot pita & loading them up to make little sandwiches. The garlic paste is phenomenal along with their hummus, which is incredibly smooth, & the babaganoush. You can't go wrong with any of the spreads. Their lentil soup is pure comfort & tastes delicious. Definitely ask for lemon with it & I would recommend at least two slices. The salad is one of the best I've ever had & it's all because of those fresh, crisp vegetables & their house salad dressing. Even if you don't like salad I would give it a try. You can also make it a great add in to your DYI pita sandwiches. I haven't had anything bad from here yet & don't think I ever will. Please open a location in Columbus, OH! read more

I have a long history with this restaurant as I think this is as good as it gets. I relish my return trips to Detroit so that I can enjoy this fabulous middle eastern favorite. Lashish is back by virtue of its second incarnation. The first overextended themselves spatially and financially. Nevermind that. The restaurant looks as great as ever. Newly remodeled and decorated for the holidays. The Shish Tawook, a type of prepared chicken dish served with pickled turnips and tahini sauce and Shish Kafta, ground lamb and spices, are as great as they've always been. So is the baba. Service was very good. Kafta takes a while to cook so be patient. The fatoush salad and tabbouli are worth mentioning. The flagship poofed pita bread is baked in a fired oven and is nice and hot when served. Plenty of free parking in the back. All credit cards accepted. read more

I haven't gone here in years. I really want a good chicken salad. So I thought I'd give them a try. I called in my order got there the manager looked me in the face. Gave me no greeting. And didn't help me at all. He did help the couple (of Arab descent) that walked up with their bill. I overlooked that because the server/ host came up and asked to help. I got the salad. Started eating it. It was sad. No onions it had hard pieces of the lettuce stem. The chicken was dried out. I get mostly done and found moldy bread under good bread. I will never go here again!!!! 3.5 stars La Shish was a well-known middle eastern restaurant that had multiple locations in Dearborn and other Detroit suburbs, and closed down several years ago. Now it's back, sort of. The restaurant is new, new owners (unrelated to the old group, as I was repeated told) The name is old; the new owners purchased the "La Shish" name and trademarks, and are supposedly using the same recipes The ambiance / vibe is similar to the old La Shish in west Dearborn, a diversified clientele, and service staff are friendly and eager to help. Good food, not phenomenal but solidly good. This is the type of place I'd take a middle eastern food newbie to, to gently ease the person into trying this flavourful cuisine without feeling threatened. I guess the "La Shish" name does bring people out of woods, as I see here all sorts of customers that I don't typically see in other Dearborn hole-in-a-wall middle eastern places. So, the old La Shish flamed out spectacularly; allegations of blood money, people doing crimes and covering up for them, people running to overseas countries that don't/can't extradite---And against all that, the world lost a great Middle Eastern Restaurant. So, it was with tempered expectations that we hit the re-opened, in a new location with new management (I assume) La Shish. So, specifically, 6 months ago, someone said that the portions were small---uh, what? ALl four of us walked out with doggie bags basically. Huge portions. I dunno, maybe something changed. The schwarma, shish kebabs, kefta, hummous (wow, the hummous; creamy and rich) were delicious and the portions huge. However, the roasted quails were way too salty. Rice portions for all dishes were on the scale of a Chinese restaurant; huge. Not good. Not even remotely close to the old La Shish (which I loved). It seemed dirty. Service was poor. Very slow and they weren't even busy. The food was nothing like the old restaurant and the portions were much smaller. I always get the lamb and hummus. The lamb was overcooked and very tough. My husband ordered the lamb Shish kabob which was extremely rare although it did have a good taste. The one star is for the bread which was warm and good and the garlic sauce which seemed the same. The food here is incredible, and that is what I solely wanted to base this review on... but that's just not the case this time. It has to do with service...it'd be 4-5 stars if based on food alone.... I only come here for lunch and the door states the open at 10am. When they first reopened, the service was quick. I'd get her at 11am, and be out by 11:25am, packed full of an awesome chicken shawarma sandwich, 3-4 warm pillow breads and a small hummous as scrumptious garlic sauce. However, the last "5" times has bot been the case... I waited as I was hoping it would improve. Note: 1 time they had a lunch party, so let's make it 4 times. The warm pillow bread has arrived at the table approx 5-10 minutes after the hummous and garlic sauce. A fork full of hummous just doesn't do it for me like the pillow bread, just sayin' Seriously, the service has been that slow... so, in turn, I arrive at 11:00am, leave at 11:50am. It has been so slow as of late, my time doubled. I can't figure out what happened here as the waiters and waitresses used to be awesome. Now the awesome one is usually working on carryout orders behind the counter... Something has got to give here as their food is incredible... La Shish was always the creme de la creme of Dearborn Arabic food. So it sure was nice to see La Shish back in the game, with new owners who don't represent restaurant division of Hezbollah. The location is also advantageous, just yards away from the Pantheon gentleman's club. Although if you're supposed to wait 1 hour after eating before going swimming, I don't know how long you ought to wait until you go next door. Anyhow, the food was mostly very good. I enjoyed the falafel, grape leaves, toum, and pita. The majadra was ok, but a bit bland, didn't come with yogurt on the side, and lacked onions. There are plenty of pink pickled turnips. Service was abominable, like the worst service I've had in a very long time. They didn't have any idea of what was going on, and it was busy. The parking situation is also confusion. You can't get to the parking lot directly from Michigan Avenue, and I'm not sure how you get in there without cutting through the Italian cultural center lot. Wow!!! Did I say wow? SUPER WOW!!! The food was scrumptious. Mmmm Mmmm Mmmm!!!!! The new La Shish is clean and well maintained. The interior is very modern and inviting. I had never dined at the old location so I don't really have anything to compare this one to but this one does not disappoint. Service was fast and friendly even though are party hemmed and hawed like we were choosing our last meal. He was patient and answered questions and didn't even let us see him roll his eyes (I know I would've been if I was our waiter!) Portions were HUGE!!!! Super HUGE!!!!! We seriously had a buffet on our table. I ordered one of the samplers with a salad and it was under $18. I seriously had enough to food to feed a small herd of children. OK I guess children aren't herded but you see where I am going with this. You get A LOT! Quality of the food was phenomenal. I loved the hummus, falafel, baba ghanouj, bread...you name it I loved it. This is the first time I've ever felt the need to write a review for a restaurant, however my family ordered takeout. We ordered a vegetarian dish with hummus, they made it with rice and still charged us more. We also ordered two CHICKEN shawarma sandwiches. Tell me why both sandwiches were half chicken and half beef, I also found rice inside my shawarma, some of which I ate and took one out which can be seen in my picture. The chicken and meat was also very hard as if it was recooked. I came here with a friend during Ramadan for dinner. It was not packed but I could tell that it was busy. There were families dining together and groups of friends here and there. The ambiance is a little darker than most restaurants but it's okay. Our waiter sat us down with menus and a bowl of dates (because it was Ramadan). We looked at the menu and took a while to decide between meat platters and sandwiches. Because it was only two of us tonight, we went with the meat platter because it came with two of everything on a bed of rice, along with two plates of salad. About 15 minutes later, the waitress came with our salads. We decided to dig in and not wait for the platter because we were hungry and hadnt eaten anything prior. It was SO GOOD. The vinaigrette coated everything and it was not heavy at all. It was one of those classic middle eastern dressings with the lemon juice, oil, salt and pepper with a few other things. A bit of tang that is mellowed out my the oil. I loved it. 5 - 7 more minutes later, she came with our meat platter. We were a but surprised to see how huge it was. There was a bed of rice (toasted in oil with vermicelli), two long and grilled sausages, grilled chicken breast, two kabobs, and roasted veggies. By the end of it all, we were arguing on who should finish the last bit that was remaining on the platter because we were stuffed. The bill came up to be around $35, which was pretty good seeing that we were ready to pay $50. To sum it up, I will be returning here and will definitely get their salad again! read more

More like 3.5 stars. Since it has re-opened I've visited a couple of times. My lunch today (the chicken ghallaba lunch special) came with salad, fresh-baked bread, rice and the ghallaba itself. The salad was quite big -- more than I could eat, in fact -- but was mainly lettuce. The bread was hot and tasty, and the accompanying garlic spread was almost lethal in its intensity. The ghallaba was chock-full of fresh veggies and well-cooked chicken. The service was friendly but a little slow when it came to checking out, and it wasn't very busy, so I'm puzzled as to why it took so long to get my check. I still like the place, and I'll likely be back. But it isn't quite up to what it once was. read more

Ate many dinners here--lamb chops were my favorite, but tried quail as well, and even goat's milk--without a single negative experience. I decided to check out Lashish after going to another restaurant that seemed deserted. It is a primary establishment in the area. The bright neon lights beckoned me to "Come Hither" as I drove down Michigan Ave. The place is bright and clean. You can smell the lamb and garlic as you enter the doors. We were first seated in one location and it was recommended that we move because the waiter stated that it got cold in that spot. We thanked her and moved to a warmer location. The waitress was kind and helpful. Not over the top but doing her job. We decided to share a plate so the decision was the Beef and chicken swarma combo. I got the middle eastern style salad and my friend got the lentil soup. One of the best parts of the meal was the warm round bread. The garlic butter and the tomato sauce were also placed on the table for dipping pleasure. Love the hot bread with the garlic butter. No kissy kissy tonight! My friend told me to deep my bread in here lentil soup. It was good but back to the garlic. The meal soon came. The chicken was great but as my friend brought to my attention, the beef was dry. I agreed but I also said that I was use to it. Typically the lamb or beef was dry. As a person of middle eastern decent she stated that it could be cooked a different way and therefore would not be dry. I took her word for it. The sharing was a good idea as there was lots of leftovers. Overall, I enjoyed the meal at Lashish. If you have not tried this place I would recommend it. read more

Very good food! Everything is fresh and made as you wait. The deboned chicken is spectacular. The hummus is divine. The salads are the stars at this eatery. Fresh bread and a nice touch of sauces. Service is always very good. The only reason I gave them a 4 was because this eatery has greasy floors. Management needs to figure out a better way of keeping these floors clean. I put in a to-go order on a not busy weekday afternoon and asked how long it would take, the lady told me 25 minutes. I wait 30 minutes, come back, and sit down with the others waiting for their to-go orders. 2 people got their food and walked out but I was still waiting there for maybe another 15 minutes while I listened to the expediter yell at the cooks to get their overflowing orders done and to stop arguing with each other in the kitchen. I finally got my food and went home. The food was delicious all though the portions were small for a Lebanese restaurant, and when I got home I realized they forgot both of my almond rice pilafs that come with my meal and so that was upsetting. What happened? I used to go to La Shish all the time before covid and I could without a doubt say it was one of the best in Dearborn. But that was then. My last visit there was a let down. The bread was burned, the salad wasn't properly mixed, the rice was undercooked, and worse of all my table waited 30-45 minutes for our entrees to come out. Then after all that waiting the chef had audacity to tell the waitress they ran out of the sauce for one of the dishes we ordered, therefore we should order something else or ask for a different sauce. Talk about a botched dinner. Overall the food was very disappointing. The waitress was super sweet, but that was about it. Not to mention the tacky indoor decor, which left many people confused. I'm not sure why they have Chinese decor inside of an Arabic restaurant? What the hell is that about. I completely understand there may be lack of staff and management as this is the new norm now in the restaurant business until this pandemic comes to an end. Been coming here for a while now 2 years approximately and the servers are super nice and attentive I feel bad for them actually for the way the owner and wife treat them! There has been a couple times where I can't believe how they talk to their staff and sheww them away or disrespect even us as paying customers. The owner is an older very rude and blunt man who shut the phone in my face earlier after I made a reservation for me and my family! I called ahead and said were 5 people and need a reservation; he went on and said okay name ? I gave it to him and then boom, phone was shut in my face, not an "okay we'll have it ready" or "well see you then" nothing just very rude and from there I shouldn't have went in but my family didn't wanna wait anywhere else. We got there and stood at the hostess podium for a good 5 minutes and no one came to us until we grabbed a waitress who got the host which was the rude old man! Awesome. He asked me 5? I said I called and made a reservation then he goes on to give me excuses that "well we're very busy so it's gonna be a little while" umm excuse you? It's not so much what you said it's HOW you say it and it was a very ugly type of uninviting, snide, I-can't-help-you, rude, unapologetic way to talk to someone. Made me feel like I was some big inconvenience to him and his staff. Apart for the disgustingly rude old man the food was horrible too. The chicken Tawook came out burnt, the salad did not smell right (like moldy-rotten scent), side veggies were also burn and sogging up on the plate, hummus tasted like straight tahini, inside the burger was 3 pathetic CUBES (probably lazily picked out of the salad most likely) of what should have been a SLICE of tomatoes, did I mention how throat-chokingly-dry and burnt all my chicken was? Not worth a penny of my money. Our waiter was so nice and did everything correctly! Thank you so much to them,they're always so polite and attentive! I don't like giving places 1 star reviews but when you shut the phone in my face and talk to me the way you do, make my whole family feel unwanted, I will not hesitate. This place is an absolute gem! Not only is the food incredible but the hospitality is beyond expectation! We were traveling to Detroit to see family, and drove 40 mins to get here. On the way I was thinking "this better be worth it" and to say it met the mark is an understatement. This particular location is not as great as some of the past others (mostly in terms of service but also quality of food). We hardly had the service we hoped for and had to track down the waitress for ordering and refills on drinks. We didn't get our drinks or water until well after we were done with our bread and appetizers. This was strange to us because the place wasn't busy. La Shish is known for its small warm pitas and rich garlic spread but ours seemed to be lacking freshness. We were happy with our main lunch dish and the portion sizes are great for the price. In the end, it took us a good 20 plus minutes to get our bill after we asked for it and we ended up asking another waitress to check us out for fear of running into the dinner menu....., Dearborn is a hub for some of the best Middle Eastern food our country has to offer.
