It was difficult to sleep (and sleep in) but we kept the room as we were frustrated with the quality of the rooms we were being given and disappointed the front desk didn't offer some kind of an upgrade/compensation after the first 2 room issues. The bathroom in all 3 rooms was also very different. They just got progressively worse as we switched rooms. The first room, the shower was a separate section than the sink and toilet. The 2nd room, the shower was in the section with the sink and toilet (like normal). The 3rd room, the sink was in the hallway of the room and the shower and toilet were sectioned together. Not only that, the shower and toilet room was SO DAMN SMALL, it was not a pleasant experience at all. The shower was in the corner and didn't have a single damn shelf to hold toiletries. They provided a bottle each of shampoo, conditioner, and body wash, all 3 just on the floor of the shower. The best part of this hotel is the location and most of the staff were nice/friendly.

Half the building was built in 1906 and restored. Has 2 restaurants inside, a full bar (staffed by the amazing Rachel), and a rooftop bar. All the people were friendly and helpful. We tried everything - after spending each day on our feet getting miles and miles of walking. Had a mini-bar in the room. Room was cleaned every day. The bartender, a waitress, and even one of the busboys really were helpful and shared ideas of things to see. Sleep quality was fantastic. We liked that it operates as an independent.

Two restaurants, lobby bar, rooftop bar, and plenty of charm. First mini bar I've seen in awhile. I did indulge on the way out with a morning Margarita while packing. Perhaps another sip too that's been forgotten. Our space was lovely with a door leading to a space where I could step out and smoke. Excellent service from checking in to valet. We did make it to the rooftop bar too. No issues with service there as others have noted. Delicious drinks with a view of downtown. Overall on my list perhaps a bit spendy but by far it's a bargain compared to other hotels. Especially when you're allergic to places like La Quinta.

It's very obvious the man running the hotel is 100% transactional. The story. Checked in very late to a room that was dirty with a vomiting child and a baby who licks and touches everything. See pics attached - wiped filth from kitchen counter on baby wipes. Decided to stay 1 night because felt bad that we woke up desk attendant to check us in and who wants to have an argument at 3:45 am. Also trying to be decent thinking it's too late for them to rent to someone else. Next morning came down to lobby very calm and said this isn't going to work it's dirty and old and the neighborhood isn't safe I don't want to stay the last two nights with sick kids probably going to get more sick. The guy Mr. Patel I think his name is was very irritable, talking over me, getting angry. Multiple times while still staying calm myself I asked him to calm down. It seemed even his wife was telling him from behind and he rudely told her to be quiet. He blamed me for not telling him at 4 am when I told him the reason why - if I could barely get a word in with him talking over me in a raised voice. Could also barely barely fit a minivan into the last open spot. Crazy tight parking all around. Finally knowing full well that having booked a third party there might be no way to force a refund, I quickly gathered up my family and left after him getting all irate. I don't want to have anything to do with this jerk so we left. The hotel itself might be a low tier way to save some money if you are pretty tolerant and just there for work. I'd bring extra wipes though so you'd feel safe using the dirty kitchen. The man running it though is reason enough to stay away entirely. People like this don't belong in a hospitality business - wish he was in a franchise because I highly doubt he could get away with treating people like this and that lobby sign. Class A jerk! The third party stepped in and did his job and refunded me a token $50 while he refused to help and deliberately did not come to the lobby while I was waiting there while the third party called him. It's a very busy time for the final four and he was booked solid as he offered to show us a couple alternate rooms but all were being cleaned. Wasn't going to wait a couple hours to see them - his nasty personality was more than enough reason to leave no matter the cost, but I'm confident the other rooms would have been the same he actually hinted that as well. I'm certain this jerk will have that room rented tonight and tomorrow and get paid double. Only transactional - cares zero about guests clearly. It's a pretty classic example of a hotel that was bought old and beat up; repairs done to the largest areas to make it appear renovated. Then all the details of the aesthetics etc left behind and corners cut. So it can look decent for photography and quick glance. But when you actually look closer or pass a cleaning wipe - you're like crap -not worth saving the money at all.

My husband and I stayed here for 2.5 weeks while he was doing a course on the AFB. The area is a bit sketchy, but this hotel is very much a safe place to stay. We booked a room with kitchen, so we'd be able to cook. The kitchen came fully equipped with a regular size fridge and stove, multiple pots and pans, dishes, cutlery, a microwave and even a toaster. I was able to cook full meals without having to cut corners. The room itself was spacious, had a king bed, a TV, a dresser, a closet space with a few hangers, a desk, a coffee table and a little couch. The only thing I will say is that the faux-leather couch was peeling off, so it should probably be replaced. The bathroom was pretty standard with a bathtub/shower combo, a toilet and a large counter with one sink. There also was a hairdryer and always plenty of towels. A few of the most important factors for us during our stay: - Housekeeping came by on a daily basis - The room was always very clean and smelled fresh - Staff was super friendly throughout our stay - We never experienced excessive noise from neighbors - Wifi access was decent, although it does disconnect every few hours We are grateful to have spent 2.5 weeks here, being able to have a feeling of being 'home' rather than just being in a room.

Our room was fine, clean and other than the fact the TV didn't work (wasn't there to watch it anyway) but mentioned it and it was working later in the day. The jacuzzi tub did not work at all, but again not the end of the world (unless we really wanted to have a tub, which we did not). Location is awesome, the historic King William neighborhood is really beautiful and along the River walk and easy to walk to other places of interest in San Antonio. My only criticisms would be that even though there was practically no other guests while we were there, the owner Don would not allow us a late check out. Seems he's a stickler for 'the rules' and while I checked out before my cousin, neither he nor his wife Lisel were on property to store my cousin's luggage as they promised they would. Nor did either answer their phone when she called them and only got voicemail. To further exacerbate the situation after check out they immediately changed the keypad code so that my cousin couldn't get back in to pick up her luggage (which she left in the foyer). So for her, it was super annoying. For me, not so much. But anyone wanting to stay can take the review into account. It's a pricey stay and seems it can be a hit or miss experience.

I could go on for many paragraphs about how great our stay was at Hotel Emma but I will keep it short as this is something you just need to experience. First off, from checking in to, room service, to drinks in the Library, to our checkout, the staff was fantastic, friendly, and there to assist with absolutely anything you needed or wanted. Even the room service staff was top notch! The rooms were beautiful and well set up for comfort and luxury. Even the bathroom was luxurious and inviting. We enjoyed checking out the Private Library while having cocktails and learning even more about this fascinating building from the new and friendly Concierge. The pool was beautiful, warm and inviting and offered an interesting view from one of the upper floors. The Hotel bar offered some great perks for guest, private upstairs access away from the crowds, top notch service and attention from the staff and the opportunity to spend some time sipping cocktails on the couch in private in an old 28,000 gallon beer finishing tank. Having coffee and pastries on a beautiful outdoor patio in the morning was also another great opportunity. There was close access to many different places in the Peal Brewing square area adjacent to Hotel Emma including a great morning street fair on Sunday. Hotel Emma is the only 5 Star Hotel that we are aware of in Texas and also provided an outstanding Michelien rated restaurant for dinner (separate review). Over all, we can not find one thing we were unhappy with during our stay at Hotel Emma, other than the fact that our stay was far too short. If you are looking for the ultimate in Hotel stays/service, you MUST take some time and come for a stay. We will definitely be returning to Hotel Emma on our next trip to San Antonio.

I'm really disappointed with the reservation system and how this situation was handled…read more I registered for a $40 boot camp/pool event and, the day before the event, realized I couldn't find my confirmation email. Rather than just assuming I had a reservation, I actively tried to verify it. I logged into my account on their website and checked my reservations. Nothing was showing under upcoming or past events. I then checked the credit card I remembered using when I registered, and there was no charge from them there either. At that point, I had three reasons to believe my registration had not actually gone through: no confirmation email I could locate, no reservation showing in my account, and no credit card charge. Based on that information, I reasonably concluded that I wasn't registered and told my friend I wouldn't be attending. Then, after the event, the $40 charge appeared on my credit card. I called and explained exactly what had happened and was told that this is simply how their system works and that the reservation may not show until the day of the event. They would not refund the charge. This makes absolutely no sense from a customer standpoint. If someone books an event days or weeks in advance, they should be able to log into their account at any point before the event and verify that they have a confirmed reservation. If payment isn't going to be processed when the reservation is made, there needs to be another reliable way to confirm the booking. I wasn't trying to cancel at the last minute or asking for a refund because I changed my mind. I wanted to attend. I specifically checked the day before because I was trying to be responsible and make sure I was registered. Had the reservation appeared in my account, or had the charge appeared on my card, I would have attended. I hope they improve their booking system so another customer doesn't have the same experience. Unfortunately, after the way this was handled, I won't be returning.

The beds are really comfortable and I was surprised they had a pool. I was hoping there would have been a Wal-Mart bathing suit and a Bandit wine by the pool at some point, but there was not any time for relaxing by the pool on this trip. I appreciate that the room is both eco-friendly (well, they have that notice about not washing the towels everyday) and they have a special remote control that is easier to use than other remote controls and has also been treated with some sort of antibacterial coating. A nice touch. They also have a business center and a fitness center and free continental breakfast. Best perk: free wifi and free coffee all day. The lobby is pretty nice, I sat and hung there for a while after I had checked out. The neighborhood is interesting: as I said, hospital and highway adjacent with several Indian restaurants and a few American chains just across the parking lot. They have good rates.
