We discovered the King William Manor's "Stonehouse" on VRBO and made a decision to stay there for our entire vacation. First off, Allison, with whom we dealt primarily, was very helpful. Not only did she help us with the rental by ensuring everything was ready upon our arrival, but she was incredibly useful by providing us lots of good tips on how to get around and where to eat. The Stonehouse, itself, was just what we were looking for: a chic, stylish home away from home that was also highly functional, clean, ideally located, and not overly pricey. Add the adjacent pool and it was a no-brainer to stay here. Allison and Craig have obviously put a lot of time and effort into renovating this home. Although it looks very unassuming from the outside, it boasts a lot of nice touches inside such as new paint and tile, new granite countertops, a nice HD flatscreen TV, huge master bath, new washer and dryer, and some pretty posh furniture options. It was perfect for me and my wife, along with our daughter and my 74 y/o father. Everything works and the house is/was immaculate. WIFI is fast and reliable. A nearby HEB grocery store is only .5 miles away if you need groceries. Numerous trendy cafes, bars, and restaurants line S. Alamo street upon which this house is situated. Two nearby VIVA bus stops make getting around SUPER easy and cheap. The southern end of the famed River Walk is a five minute walk away. Street traffic is minimal and generally quiet. We all slept well during our stay, especially since the provided beds and linens are so comfortable and soft. Seriously, this place is a hidden gem. It is perfect for a small family or two couples wanting to visit San Antonio. Centrally located to River Walk, Tower if the America's, and numerous dining options (I strongly recommend Rosario's, just up the street), Stone House is a perfect San Antonio vacation rental property.

The house itself is beautiful but outdated with the wrong furniture. We loved the breakfast that was served each morning but would have appreciated an indoor dining room or at least options for salt, pepper and butter offered along with additional silverware in the room. We really wanted to like this place however, there are many things that need to be updated. The big thing was light that filtered through all the blinds which made it difficult to sleep as the outside porch light had to kept on. The bed in the hummingbird room was way too firm and I didn't sleep well for three nights. The owner Lily was kind enough to cool the room down and provided another fan. The bathtub/shower was too high for me to enter or exit and need my spouse to help - steps are needed. We did like the refrigerator and microwave being available. The hot tub was nice but apparently being deaf we didn't fully hear her state how to remove the cover. I would make updated changes and re-open the B and B. Quiet neighborhood and about 20-25 minute walk to riverwalk. Uber is helpful to use. Lots of restaurants nearby.

The exterior of the house is plush with bushes and grass with a garden. In the backyard area, there was a housed indoor pool - an unexpected surprise. Cindy, the innkeeper was fantastic! She was extremely warm and welcoming when we first arrived. She provided maps, points of interests, and fantastic restaurants to dine at while we were spending an extended weekend here. She was also the server at breakfast in the mornings. The Jackson House is located right on the outskirts of the heart of San Antonio. Every attraction, (The Riverwalk, Alamo and Alamo Plaza, Tower of the Americas, and lots of restaurants) were all within less than a mile of walking distance. So, besides being in a prime location, The Jackson House was a vintage throwback B&B with a southern charm feel. The room had a fireplace and a giant bathtub as well. In the early afternoons chocolate chip cookies, lemonade, and iced water were provided in the lobby guest area. Breakfast was freshly prepared each morning. You started with a cup of fruit and then served eggs or pancakes, home baked muffins, crisp bacon and or potatoes. Everything was tasty and packed with a hearty punch. The dining room was actually located in the main B&B inn called The Oge House - about 2 blocks away, which you can either walk to each morning or hop in the car for a quick drive. Overall, The Jackson House provided all the pleasant charms of a southern B&B that you'd come to expect. It certainly made my San Antonio getaway a special one!

We stayed in room #6 and loved everything about it from the skylights, the fireplace, the antique claw foot bath, and the plush bedding, it was perfect. The breakfast was not gourmet but very tasty and definitely better than the generic complimentary breakfast you get at chain hotels! Cookies and lemonade are kept in the dining area for afternoon snack. Didn't get to enjoy the pool but it's nice that we had the option! We will definitely be back!

And, we hadn't even parked yet. We stayed as bed and breakfast guests, sans the breakfast. Our corner room was on the middle floor facing the back. It was quiet, clean, private, had a mini fridge, an out of service dumb-waiter, cable and air conditioned! The vibe of this place was more than i could have imagined. I didn't know very much about the place when i arrived so the whole experience was a pleasant surprise. I'm not sure if there were other guests that night, as everything was pretty quiet. My boy and i did some snooping around. Now, the top floor, I'm not sure what's going on up there but, the layout is a bit odd. I'm fairly certain that was the help's quarters when it was a fully functioning mansion. The bathrooms were tidy and the water was hot. Being raised in a Victorian home, i know that more often that not, the place just needs love. Take the front door, for example. The owner left us very specific instructions for how to open the door. After reading and re-reading them, my sweetheart was getting frustrated and insisted i try instead. (After me being an armchair door-opener, while he tried.) I got it opened easily. it's just things like that. The floor creeks. You share a two bathrooms on the middle floor, one with a shower, and the other with a tub. There are some strange noises here and there but, i would never go so far as to call this place "spooky". On the contrary, i WOULD call it charming, inviting, cozy, interesting and romantic. Oh and the best part... the hard wood floors are original! Put together piece by pain staking piece. Not like this fake wood crap people use now.So, take the time to look down if you're already there. And, it looks like all the door and window hardware is original or near original Also, they've got honeycomb tiles in the bathrooms. Do you know how hard it is to install those? And to clean those?!! In saying so, the place is VERY tidy and full of charisma and ja ne sais quoi but, keep in mind it's quite old. Old stuff collects things. So, if you're looking for the Hilton, then stay at a Hilton, leave The Bullis for people with taste.

Spooky! This was…read moresuch a strange place to stay not like most BnB's I've seen and stay at. It was kind of eerie and felt like a scene from the movie psycho. The hostel right next door didn't help, nor did I know about it until I had arrived in San Antonio. It was creepy from the moment we arrived. I had to pray the blood of Jesus over this place in order to fall asleep! JK The up side is the cost of our stay as well as the mgr. he was cool kinda like a beatnik type of artsy dude. The black turtle neck black hair and black glasses type. He cooked really good and was very professional. He also let us add a person to our room the 2nd night stay without any extra charge. Pretty impressive huh? Would I go back? I might simply for the price and the mgr. I have never found a bnb with such a low price or a mgr so chill. Oh did I mention they offer a murder mystery night? lol Never would have guessed they would offer that....sacastic much? uh, yea. All in all though it was pretty cool.

Seeing all these horrendous reviews makes me wonder if we just got luckier than some other people -…read morethough we did have a few unresolved issues. Our room was fine, clean and other than the fact the TV didn't work (wasn't there to watch it anyway) but mentioned it and it was working later in the day. The jacuzzi tub did not work at all, but again not the end of the world (unless we really wanted to have a tub, which we did not). Location is awesome, the historic King William neighborhood is really beautiful and along the River walk and easy to walk to other places of interest in San Antonio. My only criticisms would be that even though there was practically no other guests while we were there, the owner Don would not allow us a late check out. Seems he's a stickler for 'the rules' and while I checked out before my cousin, neither he nor his wife Lisel were on property to store my cousin's luggage as they promised they would. Nor did either answer their phone when she called them and only got voicemail. To further exacerbate the situation after check out they immediately changed the keypad code so that my cousin couldn't get back in to pick up her luggage (which she left in the foyer). So for her, it was super annoying. For me, not so much. But anyone wanting to stay can take the review into account. It's a pricey stay and seems it can be a hit or miss experience.

However, if you do happen to want the Guenther, bring ear plugs and plenty of Tylenol PM... waiting to buoyantly infringe upon your sleeping experience, in no particular order: Endless traffic, utility vehicle back up safety alerts, trains, construction, chatter from early risers on the patio having to speak up to compete with the road noise, ivories being tickled on the living room piano (hopefully by a person), silverware being clanged in preparation for breakfast in the dining area and guests laughing heartily as they eat. All of which hurts, literally, after a night at 1919 and Joe's Blues. Not all of this was Beckmann Inn's fault, of course: they can't help the noisy traffic outside, or my wife and I being in our 30's not 50's (i.e. probably not gonna quite make that 9 a.m.-sharp breakfast call... or wait, would 20 be too young for that?). Also, no one forced me to drink that last tumbler of Johnnie Walker Black the night before. But, that was my experience.

I stayed here again a few months ago and admit that the service wasn't as personal as when the innkeepers were on site. However, the inn is historic, quaint, comfortable, in a fabulous location and the full breakfasts deserve at least a 3.5 rating. I was very impressed with the flexibility of the Inn Manager. I bought several Living Social vouchers and realized I could not use them before expiration. She extended the full voucher offer until I was able to use them at my convenience. . This inn deserves my 4 rating and I am hopeful that other satisfied guests will take the time to review the Beckmann Inn so it's average rating will not be dependent on a single bad customer experience.

Oct 28 is Emma's Birthday... so Magnolia Hotel decided to open the doors to celebrate! Free tours…read morefrom 10am-2pm! I just happened to see something come through my newsfeed over Fb, I bookmarked it, found my schedule open, so headed east to check it out. Emma likes to play in her room... and who doesn't like to play with little spirits?! I didn't know the history of the Magnolia Hotel so was totally clueless walking in the door... Magnolia Hotel has been on Ghost Adventures on Travel Channel. Also, Magnolia Hotel is ~not~ a hotel, it is now a personal residence. To my delight, I was able to hear stories of the old hotel, tales of it's past residents many of which have never left, and how Magnolia Hotel was discovered by the owners. Jim & Erin saved the Magnolia from being demolished... they single handedly have saved a part of Seguin history!... and some haunted history at that! I spent about two hours just hanging out, looking around, and people watching... talked to some interesting people, listening to questions and answers... all very interesting. Did I have an experience? I had something creepy go up the back of my left neck and skull as I was talking to a ghost hunter in the original dining area where the owner was sitting. I also felt some weird things around the house... but something I brushed off at first until I started listening to others talk about it... when you first come up the stairs, it feels really heavy. I originally brushed it off as I just walked up the stairs... but no, go back and you feel it... and everyone was feeling it!!! Emma was playing in her room. One of the guides said just a few minutes earlier, a little girl got scratched. Then someone told her that they saw the door knob in the pink bathroom turn back and forth. The owner, Erin, said this house is more active during the day than at night. Wow! The owners Jim & Erin host a ghost tour in their home on occasion, which books up months in advance. The tour last about 2 hours with in-depth stories which might also include a spiritual reading from the Erin at the end (but only if deceased wish to come forward). Erin has written Haunted New Braunfels, Haunted Seguin, and soon to be released Haunted Magnolia House. All proceeds go towards restoring the Magnolia Hotel. I can not wait to go on their ghost tour!

On a previous stop in San Antonio my wife and I fell in love with the story and design of Hotel…read moreEmma, so we then made it a point to stay at this fabulous hotel for our upcoming anniversary. I could go on for many paragraphs about how great our stay was at Hotel Emma but I will keep it short as this is something you just need to experience. First off, from checking in to, room service, to drinks in the Library, to our checkout, the staff was fantastic, friendly, and there to assist with absolutely anything you needed or wanted. Even the room service staff was top notch! The rooms were beautiful and well set up for comfort and luxury. Even the bathroom was luxurious and inviting. We enjoyed checking out the Private Library while having cocktails and learning even more about this fascinating building from the new and friendly Concierge. The pool was beautiful, warm and inviting and offered an interesting view from one of the upper floors. The Hotel bar offered some great perks for guest, private upstairs access away from the crowds, top notch service and attention from the staff and the opportunity to spend some time sipping cocktails on the couch in private in an old 28,000 gallon beer finishing tank. Having coffee and pastries on a beautiful outdoor patio in the morning was also another great opportunity. There was close access to many different places in the Peal Brewing square area adjacent to Hotel Emma including a great morning street fair on Sunday. Hotel Emma is the only 5 Star Hotel that we are aware of in Texas and also provided an outstanding Michelien rated restaurant for dinner (separate review). Over all, we can not find one thing we were unhappy with during our stay at Hotel Emma, other than the fact that our stay was far too short. If you are looking for the ultimate in Hotel stays/service, you MUST take some time and come for a stay. We will definitely be returning to Hotel Emma on our next trip to San Antonio.
