It was pretty busy on a weekend night and a trendy spot for what Lubbock has to offer but while the cocktails were a highlight, the food was average overall. The young hostess was pleasant, but the older ( I assume manager) was snippy and rude to other customers and the staff. Waitress seemed frazzled and not familiar with the menu. Really disappointed with our experience. The menu was surprisingly boring and flavor and portion size was definitely not worth the prices they're charging. The biggest issue though was the staff. One lady was so rude, pretentious, and made us feel unwelcome the entire time. Probably an entitled owners kid or relative...For the amount of money we spent, the service should have been much better. I will say, I love the location in Cactus Alley which is what made me excited to try it in the first place. Unfortunately, the experience didn't live up to the setting and cactus alley has changed too, it isn't the same upbeat vibe and atmosphere since mono negro moved. Went here to try for the first time and ordered the chicken for me and my wife. My wife's chicken was bloody and we asked the waitress to take it away and she said chicken is red at the bone and it is normal. They offered a cheaper appetizer and tried charging for the chicken and said the $18 appetizer was to replace the $38 chicken plate??? We also asked for a refill on a soft drink and they charged and extra $6 for a $12 oz of coke. Really wanted to like this place but they made it impossible. Unless you like raw chicken, find a better reasonable priced place!!! read more

Yes, this place has a great ambience. This said, I will never eat here again. I paid 42+ for a VERY unpalatable pan seared bass dish. The dish included pecans, red onions, spinach, plums, and a really overdone piece of thick fish. The meal was watery and almost tasteless...it might have been entirely tasteless had it not been for the bitter tinge the entire thing, put together, left in my mouth. The chef really missed the boat on this one. Do not try this meal. It still takes at least 45 minutes to get your food. Never again. read more

Away from the mainstream Town of Lubbock this little out of the way gem is a real treat. The inside is beautifully decorated with a wood beam ceiling twinkle lights and tasteful art throughout . There is a separate bar with seating that is also really pretty. Shawn our 5 star server recommended the salmon and it did not disappoint! The Caesar salad w a vegan dressing was perfect and just enough to share. The cocktail menu has several yummy choices and we had the Paloma martini... delicious!!! We also had the crispy Brussels sprouts and they paired with the salmon beautifully. We ate on the patio because we had our pup with us. And it was Nicely furnished. Really did not want to write review and mostly I do not unless something really impress me or devastate. In Lubbock after having good experience in Las Brisas and The West Table finally decided to try La Sirena. Got reservation done couple days before and today got text to confirm reservation and I did. Looks like it is inside small complex like place and until we tried to find place, we were 20 mins late. During this 20 mins the restaurant cancelled reservation and gave it to someone else. We were told sorry no table available. No argument or drama happened, just left and thank God one of other 2 restaurants accommodated without reservation even with busy schedule. I do not know food so I do not want to talk about food. The food may be good or bad, I do not know but I think this action shows no commitment to customer. Since I can only talk about service I can tell I cannot trust them again. Communication and handling of situation was very rude. Never felt uncomfortable as I felt there. Imagine, you arrange reservation for very special day and for 20 mins being late and without calling costumer cancelling the reservation and not offering help in restaurant business is unheard. At least I have not heard and I am person travel for food and eat out a lot. I have been many places and with 3 Michelin stars and never was let down for being late for 20 mins. So, it is up to you. The food may be good and you may want to accept risk of letting down on your special occasion or night you want to relax or choose wisely. Still the very best restaurant in Lubbock. Guajillo pork chops, pulled quail empanadas, steaks, risottos, stacked enchiladas, and every other dish I've had here has been superb. Friends who have traveled internationally say the scallops here are the best they've ever had anywhere. House margarita, mermaid water, and other cocktails are excellent. Large selection of wine, including local Texoir, which is great. Desserts include a good chocolate chili tart and Mexican wedding style cookies. Dinner for two can easily cost $150, but is worth every penny. Service can be excellent, but sometimes it falls off. The owner, Cat Traxler, is that rare restauranteur who goes out of her way to know her regulars. read more

Wednesday night dinner. Nice and quiet. Host responded more like a bartender at a local pub/tavern than one at a restaurant with $100 bottles of wines. Server was more professional. The Crispy Brussel Sprouts app was excellent! Loved it! Lots of crunch and char but nothing burnt! Paired so well with lemon aioli. The pork chop itself was cooked well. I did enjoy how the chow chow added enough flavor without drowning it that I could really taste the brined pork. There was enough over the chop with good restraint to just provide good flavor and not drown it. The pozole, however, did not impress at all. The hominy was not pillowy. Instead it was hard and broke into a crunchy mix that covered my mouth with "lil bits and pieces" like roasted peanuts. Sorry. I have never had pozole with that texture. The flavor did not provide any hint of Mexican flavors at all. I have had much more flavorful pozole in and around less fancy family restaurants in Cozumel. The Bestial Malbec was an excellent wine! It was definitely more than what I would have had to pay thru any Wine Store. All in all, it was a good dinner. Not excellent nor unforgettable. 4 stars cos the low points are all fixable. read more

I wasn't going to leave a negative review, but the owner or manager, was extremely rude and condescending. We had specifically reserved the wine room, but she gave it to another group who had not reserved it. When questioned, she said, we decided to give you a room in the main dining room and asked if we wanted to kick out the old people who are hard of hearing. I said absolutely not, but wondered how we were going to rectify the situation since we were there for our birthday. She then stated I know you're gonna leave a negative review I have had so many. I stated if she had so many then it sounds like that's a bigger issue. Overall, the food is very good and the staff was very attentive. This road trip we brought Cleo, our five year old F1B goldendoodle along so This trip every meal is at a dog friendly restaurant. Which is code and means they have an outdoor patio. Shawn, our FIVE STAR server rocks! We started with the vegan Caesar Salad which had an unexpected killer dressing. Not sure how they made it but it was loaded with parmesan cheese and a little spice. 5 STARS! We shared the salad and main course. Amarillo Roasted Salmon and a side of Roasted Brussel Sprouts. Folks we are in Lubbock and this is like Uptown Dallas. And the Paloma Martini's are the bomb! Check it out, you will love it! If not there are many more killer cocktails to choose from. read more

I opted for a Mermaid Water, which is a fancy way of saying a skinny margarita, only skinnier! It features Topo Chico sparkling water, lime juice, and tequila. That's all folks. It is light and tasty but the tequila does hit you up front so sip slowly. I also enjoyed the Tacos del Dia (or Tacos of the Day for those who don't habla espanol) which were phenomnal. Panko crusted fish on a light pineapple slaw with a spinach and corn tortilla- AMAZING! Just a hint of spice. I also snacked on the fried Brussels Sprouts- and they are just too good! Never has eating a vegetable been so agreeable! But the pièce de résistance had to be the Tres Leches cake. Just every bite you got another smack of flavor. When I moved here, I found a pretty short list facing me of places where I couldn't wait to eat. This one was way up on that list. * I've walked past La Sirena so many times when I was at Cactus Alley visiting other shops, wanting to go inside. They have a very specific set of hours (Tues-Sat: 5pm-9pm) and I'm usually around much earlier in the day while the other shops are open. I'll just add- this location feels so welcoming but secluded at the same time; it's in a quaint inward-facing courtyard full of foliage, and that's also where their outdoor patio sits. It doesn't feel AT ALL like you're right on the other side of a busy highway though you are. * Right away... the building was full, everybody looked well-dressed and smiley, the hostess was kind and warm. Then my waiter was informative (and HIS wife is also a chef and I can't wait to go try out HER place). He was attentive and cordial and I wish I'd caught his name. It was an absolutely blustery and cold night outside, yet it was the perfect temperature in the restaurant. I was never hot nor cold. And either can ruin a dining experience, honestly. It was never too loud and never felt too rushed, even though it was bustling. I think the separate smaller dining rooms really help with that casual talking volume. * First out, I ordered the braised short rib tostada. Which came with aged cheddar (though didnt catch much of that to be honest?), pickled red onion, Napa cabbage+Serrano slaw. That was a pretty well-balanced bite, I have to say. One supremely good choice was adding the pickled red onion to that mix. The short rib had SO*MUCH* flavor! * They had a carafe of cold water at the table- the waiter didn't just sit back and assume you knew how you use it; if I was low, I was topped off. bonus points. * I sadly missed the exact ingredients in my margarita. I know it was first on the marg drink list. I wanted it spicy and they added a pepper for me. It was light, it was delicious, and it wasn't overly sweet (which is why I usually have an aversion when it comes to margs). * For my entree I had miso-aji amarillo roasted salmon which came on a mound of jasmine rice, Swiss chard, local mushrooms, and chopped walnuts. And paired it with a glass of Pinot grig. * I sampled some of the aji amarillo + aji verde dipping sauces and I could literally buy jars of that stuff by the case. While I'm here, let me highly recommend the Peruvian spiced chicken that those sauces come with. * I already can't wait to go back and see what else this chef has up her sleeve. read more

Came to Lubbock to take my daughter to TExas Tech for a tour. We arrived late and decided to go to this restaurant based on Yelp reviews. The restaurant is very nice. It is tucked off in a small area with minimal traffic. The restaurant has a wine bar area with separate seating and wine menu. It also has a Fullbar that is very well organized with seating as well. Then there's the restaurant area we sat in that was very active and great ambiance. Our waiter was very attentive and timely. Drinks never were empty and held good conversation. Not too much and not too little. As for the food I ate the roasted chicken with duck fat potatoes and a side salad ( comes as one dish). The chicken was very flavorful and the potatoes were excellent. The salad was a great accompaniment to provide freshness to the plate. My little one has the bean and cheese quesadilla (looks like tacos) and she enjoyed them greatly. My wife had the stacked enchiladas with chicken and green hach chille sauce. Very well present with lots of flavor. The drills were good pours. To end it off I had a bread pudding that was warm and delicious. I would definitely come back to this place again if I'm Lubbock. read more
