We dined at La Strada on New Year's Eve and had an awful experience. The restaurant was so overbooked and overcrowded that had a Fire Marshall stopped by they would have evacuated the building. People were literally standing shoulder to shoulder in the foyer, lobby, hall by the kitchen and bar area. The staff had to literally worm their way through the crowds with their trays. The owner was unapologetic and acted as though this was an anomaly. I know it's not because we went to La Strada several years ago for NYE and it was the exact same situation. Stupid on our part for thinking it would be different this time. After waiting over an hour past our reservation my husband shamed the owner into seating us. We were semi-regular customers, dining there 6 or so times per year, but we were so turned off by how they treated their customers on NYE we will never go back. Kudos to the wait staff and bus boys because they worked their butts off that night. read more

My wife and I both wanted to like this place, but found it incredibly disappointing. The restaurant is nice. The service is OK, but the food stinks, especially for the prices. My wife and I had different dishes, and both of us felt that like the food was on par with that served at a mediocre wedding. Mediocre for a wedding, not very good for what is supposed to be a nice restaurant. Neither of us could understand some of the better reviews we read. We are guessing that the good reviews come because this place is better than its competition in the area. Definitely not worth the money, and we will not be going back. read more

This is a very sad review to have to write. We've been going to La Strada for so many years of top notch food and old school restaurantcraft. The restaurant has been sold to people who appear only to be interested in profit, and so the owner and kitchen staff are no longer there. Some of the waitstaff is excellent, as usual, but you can tell the new owners have no idea how to run a proper restaurant., and the staff cannot compensate for lousy food. If you'd never been there before, you might not notice the food quality, but if you'd eaten there alot, the differences are quite profound. The food recipes are changed (yechh), and the suppliers have probably been changed, too. We will try La Strada once more, but I am not hopeful. Thank you, Vinnie and chefs, and waitstaff, for a wonderful run and a top notch outstanding restaurant experience for so many years. Basing my review on a phone call only, did not eat at this restaurant. I called to make a reservation and the person who answered the phone seemed to have a little bit of an attitude. You would think he would be a little more pleasant when someone is trying to make a reservation, must be nice to not need business. I called back the same day and canceled my reservation; shame because it seemed like a nice place online but I refuse to give my money to people who apparently do not appreciate my business. Had dinner here once and will not be back. We sat at a table in the bar area upon request. The decor was tired and needs to be updated. Weak beer menu. Metal chairs for seating, total red flag. Food was mediocre at best. The bread served at the beginning of the meal didn't appear to be fresh and the salad was terrible. Another reviewer mentioned the House vinaigrette having absolutely no taste and they were spot on. It had no flavor at all. My chicken dish with eggplant was fair, but the brown sauce was bland. My date had penne with vodka sauce which was decent. We did have good service and our waiter was very attentive. Overall a mediocre experience and we will not be back. read more

After a slight issue with parking (they do not have enough spaces for the size of the dining rooms) the evening turned out very well. Waiter was vague on the specials and description of menu items, but was very efficient in all areas of service. My soup (bacon and potato) was excellent. My friend ordered the Kobe beef meatball and was extremely pleased...nice size portion. I had veal saltimbocca and it was well presented as were all entrees at our table. Travel as much as you care, you'll never have a better Veal Marsala. So tender you can cut it with a fork! Clam Casio, Raw Oysters, and Apple Strudel are sensational as well. Went for Christmas Eve, have been here over the years and a few times since new ownership took over. Salads and appetizers were really good. Four out of 5 of us loved their meals, the 1 who ordered penne (with filet instead of chicken), was disappointed as the meat was tough and chewy, had to send it back. However, the new (different) meal got to the table literally within minutes and was good. In addition, they took off both meals from the bill. They also offered a complimentary fruit plate and after dinner drinks, not sure if this was normal or because 1 of the meals was bad. Either way, it was nice of them. One highlight was our waitress Louisa (I apologize if the spelling is not correct). By chance, this was the second time she waited on us over the past months. You really couldn't ask for better service. Nobody's water or drink glass was ever empty and she aerated our pretty expensive bottle of wine table side , which was a nice touch. She was so good that next time we come, we will ask to be seated in her section. Even though 1 meal was not up to par, had to give 5 stars because of the service, and the place was packed, so the service meant a lot. read more

I had the smoked salmon salad as an appetizer. It was one of the specials. Very good. First time I had smoked salmon. Also, sampled a meatball appetizer, also a special. Not fond of the taste. It came with a raisin, cream sauce. For my meal, I ordered the Ravioli di Pollo e Spinachi. For my taste, it was on the salty side. Not fond of the texture. Homemade, which was nice. I think it's stuffed with too many ingredients (5). Maybe omit one or two. I finished with a cup of coffee and homemade cannoli, which was delicious. read more

My family has been coming here for years, and the service is always top-notch. The servers are incredibly friendly and fun to talk to. La Strada is also always immaculately clean, and the decor is beautiful and classy with muted light. Good for a romantic dinner or just a night out with family. Now for the food... The arugula salad is perfect, especially if you're like me and enjoy sweeter salads with fruit and nuts. Caesar (Cesare) salad is also very good, but nothing new. The stuffed mushroom (funghi ripiene ai granchi) and clams oreganato appetizers are also quite good. The pasta e fagiole soup is the best I've ever had here! They serve excellent steak, the mashed potatoes are very tasty, and the vegetables are always perfectly tender. My favorite dish here though is, hands down, the farfalle pasta with shrimp and asparagus (Farfalle Chef Giuseppe). So unbelievably good, plus they are very generous with the shrimp! The desserts are also wonderful (the chocolate covered ice cream is fantastic), as well as their coffee, but more often than not, none of us have room for it, hahaha. read more

We have had many celebrations at this establishment and have NEVER been disappointed. On 7/11/17, we held a retirement event with over 70 people. Every course was superb and the wait staff attended to everyone's request in record time. It certainly was a great send off for our colleague. We made reservations, for this past Friday evening, for 3 of us at 7:00 PM, we arrived and it looked like there was a wedding reception, the parking lot was packed. We went inside and it was all couples, families, and just people having dinner. Our table was waiting for us, we sat down and all had a drink. The service was spot on. We all ordered different appetizers, and main courses. The food was 110%... EXCELLENT. This was our first time back at La Strada, in over 3 years, we were all very, very happy with everything... the piano player/singer was top notch also. Food is good, but there are a million other italian restaurants that are less expensive and just as good if not even better. My major gripe about the place is the help. Parking attendants are a joke and It seems like all the servers are paid extra to talk with an accent. Honestly you are just paying for the atmosphere. The owner should also keep his mouth shut and not bother everyone while they are eating. He tries too hard to make people feel special. Big bulls****er. If you want to look like you're high society then bring your date or party there. If you want a great italian meal reasonably priced, just take a look around. La Strada has been a Randoph fixture for more than 20 years. We often went when we lived in town-- now we are 45 min. drive away but still come back. It is a good,solid place offering well cooked Italian food--fairly traditional but carefully prepared and garnished. Portions are more than adequate and special dietary requests are not a problem. The menu has many selections to choose from and there are always specials. On a recent visit our party of four enjoyed a nice dining experience. I had the special salad of arugula with strawberries and toasted pignolis with a light vinaigrette. My husband had very fresh and sweet oysters on the 1/2 shell; our friends Bob & Kathy had the shrimp stuffed with crabmeat which they relished.My entree was soft shell crab in picata sauce with sauteed broccoli ,spinach and carrots. It was very tasty and I couldn't finish it all.My husband had homemade spinach fettuccini with seafood fra diavolo. He said it was well spiced nut too much on his plate. No problem requesting doggy bags! Friend Bob had the same pasta dish but with an unspicy pink sauce as he is not fond of fra diavolo. Kathy had a pasta dish also but I didn't pay attention. We all agreed that the food was excellent. This was a rare treat for us in that our corner of NJ lacks a comparable kind of place. Desserts were good. I had excellent plain strawberries (which normally come with zabaglione, which I'm supposed to avoid). My husband enjoyed creme brûlée (which I tasted and could detect no flour used to thicken it). It was well and correctly prepared. Bob had a yummy looking tartufo (ice cream in a hard chocolate shell) while Kathy ordered the chocolate cake that she adores. When the bill arrived we were pleasantly surprised--a fair sum for the quality we received. We can wholeheartedly recommend La Strada if you are looking for a good meal on a festive occasion (we were celebrating our respective anniversaries-- I won't say how many years because we would be deemed fossils! Service was a bit slow but we were there for a pleasant evening and would not have appreciated being rushed out because they needed to turn over the table. We have been patrons of La Strada for quite some time. The food, service and atmosphere at this restaurant have always been very good. This is why my wife and I decided to celebrate her 65th birthday there. The reservation was made through Open Table, where we noted that we were celebrating her special birthday. Unfortunately, even though we mentioned this to our waiter, her birthday was never acknowledged. You can imagine our disappointment when several other tables were also celebrating birthdays that were acknowledged. This type of oversight may not seem important to the waiter, but is very important to the patron. Hopefully my review will serve to make certain that this doesn't happen to anyone else. We have always highly recommended La Strada to others but are now reluctant to do so if they are celebrating a special occasion, as it may not be acknowledged. read more

Let me start by saying that if I could give 0 star I would!!! I just came back from a group dinner, which totaled about $1300, and I am disgusted at the way the staff ended the night. There were about 20 or so people and 4 needed to pay with cc. The main waiter was up in one of the women's face YELLING at her!!! YELLING!!! What happened to customer service? I'm not even going to say the 'customer is always right'...all I'm was looking for was the respect a restaurant staff shows a patron!!! Including saying there was no manager...just pay the bill. This same waiter had the NERVE to say to one of our guests that her diamond bracelet was fake!! In front of 20 something women!!! The food was mediocre and the service was simply ok and then turned HORRIBLE!!! And the disdain on the waiters and manager's face was disrespectful, disgraceful and disgusting!!! I understand that this may have caused a bit of an issue but to act in that manner was uncalled for....especially for a restaurant that likes to have the fame as an upscale restaurant in Randolph!!! We were attending a wedding in NJ and this was the place for the rehearsal dinner. There was a lot of food and it was good but I need to say the service was slow and sometime they seemed confused. We ordered some drinks and they mixed up the order. It just seemed a bit chaotic. We had steaks and I was not impressed i have to say I had better. My Wife and I have been going to LaStrada for nearly 30-years. I have seen the establishment grow from a small yet very and always authentic Italian Restaurant to a nice size, beautifully decorated and wonderful atmosphere that makes you think of true Italy (been there 3X). The owners, Vinnie and Guiseppi are the real deal. Guiseppi with his Italian cuisine flair, and Vinnie with his discerning strict eye for perfection make it always a great experience. My Wife and I have literally visited LaStrada north of 400X over the nearly 30-years, we've had many extended family dinners there celebrating various occasions, and have NEVER been disappointed. The staff is always, always friendly and accomodating. My Wife and I had an intimate anniversary dinner there last night of which inspired me to write this, I asked to have roses on my favorite table, they were there and made my Wife so happy. They made a special dessert for us, unexpectedly of which made it even nicer. There's a reason we have been going there for so many years when we have so many choices in Morris County, they always make us feel at home and the food is great. Party of 3, was excited hearing about the couples first time there and other Yelp reviews. We ordered the breaded mozzarella appetizer - it is literally "breaded". A slice of mozzarella grilled between two slices of crustless white bread, cut into 4 triangles. Not bad, and I am from out of town so maybe this is the standard locally?! One person in our party ordered the penne vodka without prosciutto and mushrooms, as she is a vegetarian and enjoyed this dish on her last visit. When the dish arrived, she could visibly see the mushrooms, which she was ok with, but then she took a bite and tasted meat for the first time in 30+ years. I thnk the waiter should have seen at least the mushrooms and realized the order was wrong. Before ordering the seafood ravioli, I inquired what seafood was in it, and the waiter told me salmon, shrimp and crab was in the ravioli and it was covered with shrimp and scallops. Excellent! Except there was 1 piece of shrimp, 4 small scallops and a lot of calamari...which I had wanted to avoid, hence asking what seafood was included. It also had a strong fennel taste that was off-putting to me, but for fennel fans that like calamari, this may be the dish for you! The third person in our party enjoyed the special of lamb shank. At the end of our meal, we asked for one dish to be wrapped and the bill. The wrapped dish came back, the waiter spent several minutes clearing our table, then asked if we wanted coffee and dessert. Umm...just the bill, thanks. I will say the bread was great (I heard they get it from Anthony & Sons bakery down the road), and the support staff was excellent, always keeping our water refilled, dishes taken away and additional silverware etc. in a very timely manner. This was approximately 6:30 pm on a Sunday evening. I highly doubt I would give this restaurant a second chance. read more

Based on some other reviews it must have been an off night for this restaurant. We started off with a salad special that was fine. I had a "special" that was gnocchi in a red sauce with beef tips. The sauce was really salty (and I like salt) ! The worst component of this dish was the beef tips. They were grizzly, tough and tasted of freezer burn. My partner tasted the dish and agreed it was terrible. I told the waiter and, instead of asking me if I wanted something else, told me to pick out the meat and he would bring me another plate of meat. Since we were dining with people we don't often see I did as the waiter asked as I didn't want to put a damper on the night. The waiter brought more of those beef tips and they were exactly the same as the original!! I couldn't eat the dish and was not offered anything else, not even a dessert or cup of coffee!! Everyone that works at the restaurant was very nice and the service was great. However, the food was awful. First, my meal came with a salad, I got the house vinaigrette dressing on it. The dressing had absolutely no taste whatsoever. Not only was the salad tasteless, it had 2 pieces of plastic in it. I informed our waiter of the plastic and he offered to bring another salad to which I declined. For my entree, I ordered the lasagna which I kid you not tasted like chef Boyardee. The sauce was like a puddle of water, the cheese on top wasn't melted all the way, and the meat just did not taste good. My friend ordered a steak which was a bit overpriced for an average tasting meal. We thought maybe they would offer us some sort of discount or at the very least a dessert on the house considering the plastic in the salad but sadly they did not. Won't be going back, quite overpriced for a less than average dinner. The lasagna was 18 dollars which is ridiculous. read more
