Every once in a while, you finally try a restaurant and think, what took me so long? That was exactly our experience at Allendale Social last night. Everything about it was top-notch. The transformation from the previous restaurant is truly impressive. The Paella Arancini was incredibly unique and absolutely delicious. I visited Allendale Social last night with my family for dinner after it was recommended by several family members and friends. The restaurant is very pretty overall, though the interior is quite dim, making it difficult to read the menu without additional light. The tables were also placed fairly close together. Our server was polite and welcoming throughout the evening. We started with the Korean fried chicken and tuna tataki. The chicken was moist and coated in a sweet and spicy sauce. The tuna tataki was flavorful; however, the taro chips were very thin and tended to break easily when holding the tuna. For our main courses, we ordered the Icelandic cod, rigatoni, Freebird chicken, and a side of whipped potatoes. Dessert was the hazelnut chocolate crunch, which was a nice way to end the meal. Overall, the food was enjoyable. That said, the pricing felt more in line with a fine dining experience, while the atmosphere and service were closer to an upscale casual restaurant. Some small details, such as the whipped potatoes being served without a serving spoon, stood out. While minor, these details can make a difference, especially at this price point. read more

Allendale Social didn't quite hit the spot for me, though there were some things I genuinely liked. The valet was convenient, and the outdoor patio with the string lights had a great ambiance. It's a nice space to hang out, especially on a warm evening. A few things threw me off, though. The bar staff kept running back and forth between the bar and another building, I'm guessing to grab bottles or restock. It was distracting, and I honestly wish they had just walked quickly instead of sprinting through the space. The bathrooms were also really tight and pretty filthy, which didn't help the overall feel. The food itself was fine, but everything tasted extremely salty. I'd be willing to give it another shot since the place is so hyped up, but I wouldn't go out of my way to return. read more

Loved our meal at Allendale Social! It's a small cozy restaurant perfect for a GNO or date night. It is super dark in the restaurant and there are candles everywhere. The food was so, so good. We started with a bunch of appetizers to share as well as cocktails. My only complaint about the food was the rigatoni - it was too salty. Some minor points that made this place a 4 not 5: The service was slow, and their coffee machine broke down during dessert. I would still come back though! One of the better ones in NJ. read more

Came here Saturday night for a friend's bday. It was my second time at Allendale Social and well worth it! The food and ambiance here are great - it's a small boutique-feel restaurant. Great for a date night. Admittedly, we were a group of 8 so it was a bit overwhelming in the dining room. We were probably loud being that there were so many of us but our server, Alberto was awesome! He completely got us. We ordered a bunch of food to share. My favorites were the Tuna Tartare, Scallop & Oyster Ceviche and the Diver Scallops. Allendale Social has the freshest fish! The tartare was fresh and so light. The ceviche tasted way better than it looked - raw fish always looks weird but this was fantastic! It was served on a shell. The diver scallops were cooked perfectly - it came with cauliflower, golden raisins and pine nuts. What a blend of flavors! Allendale Social offers free valet and they have music on Saturdays 8-11pm. This place is still good but the pesto crab dish was a bit of a disappointment though. Barely any crab and doused in average tasting pesto. The Bronzino was very good! This is almost a boutique restaurant but definitely worth a visit. The interior is nicely decorated with a cozy modern vibe. The wait staff were all very friendly and the bartender not only made great drinks but was open to any request. The Korean fried chicken app was amazing and the rigatoni rago was very good. I had the filet mignon for my main, the good part was the got the temperature right but the bernaise sauce was quite runny. Overall a good time! read more

The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is the servers are still new, they did a good job- just need some more time. No complaints. Decor - Bright white trendy decor inside. Everything looks brands new. There is Large bar area to enjoy a cocktail before or after dinner. They also have outdoor seating which was nice because it did get very loud in the main dining room. Bartenders were very knowledgeable and seemed to be mixologists. The cocktails we tried were the Social and the Humidor, both were great! Food- nice menu, not too big. For apps we had the corn arancini which fell a little short on flavor and the Korean fried chicken (spicy) which was a standout Main course- salmon , pork loin and filet mignon. Everyone enjoyed each dish. The pork tenderloin served over lentils was good but our least favorite of the three. The desserts were amazing ! Highly recommend the first chocolate dessert on the menu - you will not be disappointed !! Pricey dinner but not any different than other places that are upscale. I stopped into Allendale Social with some relatives the other night. Again, I loved the buzzy atmosphere at bar, the friendly staff, and the cozy upscale decor. The beer and wine lists were phenomenal, but so was the Fume Verde cocktail I had decided to order. The bright green concoction was a smoky, spicy blend of mezcal, Nardini Acqua di Cedro (lemon grappa), Ancho Reyes Verde (poblano chili liqueur), lime, cucumber, and jalapeno. We stayed at the bar for a while taking in what we could of the excellent live music; unfortunately, we had the same problem I had had previously in that it was almost impossible to hear the lyrics over the jovial crowd. On busy nights, the music should definitely be louder to cater to the festive patrons. Aside from that, Allendale Social offered a classy, fun vibe not so often found in the suburban area. read more

Allendale Social is an elegant Botique style restaurant serving farm to table cuisine. We started out with the beetroot salad and the sweet corn arancini. The beetroot salad was very good with pistachio pesto giving it a nice texture. The sweet corn arancini we wouldn't order again. You couldn't taste any sweet corn, and the appetizer was very bland. For entrees we had the black truffle risotto and the lobster thermidor. The black truffle risotto was OUTSTANDING! It was the best truffle risotto I ever had! The lobster Thermidor was EXCELLENT! For desserts we had the warm apple crisp and the hazelnut chocolate crunch. Both were very good! The hazelnut chocolate crunch was very rich and for serious chocolate lovers like myself. Let me start with what was good. The food in fact was quite good. We had a grilled gem salad with avocado that was quite delicious. My wife had the chicken which she liked mixed corn was cold but the chicken was not. Luckily. I had a spicy pasta dish that was quite good. So you say what went wrong? Well the service. Yes food is very important but with a very pricy menu you do expect much better service. The waiter took our order after finally tracking him down. And never seen him again. Never returned again until to offer the check. Not acceptable. It was a chore to get more water. Now other waitresses were there and only one came to fill the water glasses when I tracked her down. Service is premier as is the food. The service when at the end, I asked for water and the check. The check came no water. Food delivered no conversation not asking if we need anything. Unacceptable. So I will say for this place to have the clientele needed they need to do much much better with the service. The place is a nice with a little bar area with a few tables. The room inside is a nice and they have a garden basically with picnic tables. Evidently that was where our waiter was the entire night. Again food good place nice. However, service with a pricy menu should be much better. The restaurant cannot stand on food alone. Bottom line I hate these reviews but that entire service staff (not bartenders) need lots of coaching. If not, patrons will not return. read more

My partner took me here for my birthday dinner and boy did it NOT disappoint! The service was great, our waitress was maybe a little over excited, but sweet and attentive! We started with drinks and I absolutely loved that they had glass straws - it was a nice touch. It had a cozy feeling with very warm decor. I'd love to go and have drinks at the bar next. The arancinis were my favorite - just wish they were bigger. We didn't have room for dessert but since it was my birthday, they gave us a free espresso martini shot each. The good: Enjoyed the ambiance inside, with an upscale trendy vibe. Bartender was helpful and the drinks were great - got the yuzu lemonade and the humidor. No complaints there. Food was also enjoyable, the crudo and Korean fried chicken came out about 2 minutes after ordering, both delicious, but chicken was clearly not made to order and therefore lacked that fresh out the fryer taste. Mains, we got the ragu beef rigatoni and the cod - both were enjoyable. The bad: Didn't get seated until 15 minutes after our reservation, and the hostess didn't mention our table was outside (which, it was colder, and we were disappointed waiting to enjoy the vibe inside for 30+ minutes just to get put outside without notice). Waiter was super nice and helpful the first time coming to the table, but then was non-existent, we wanted a second round of drinks but couldn't even flag him down. Also got asked "do you want dessert or just want to get out of here?" - well, when you put it that way, happy to get out of there. Lastly, valet? Cmon, it's a small normal parking lot, absolutely no need to valet a car 2 feet away, just adds clunkiness to arrival/departure for absolutely no reason. I've been trying to get my husband to come with me for drinks since they opened. They just started dollar oysters midweek, so that was perfect timing to get him to go in. We started with. Charlie's girl and the humidor. I thought the glass straw was a nice touch on my drink. You can't beat dollar oysters. They had great presentation and were flavorful without the mignonette. We liked them so much we also decided to try the truffle polenta fries. They were great, and topped with tons of finely shredded Parmesan cheese. The ambiance is great and the staff are really nice. Obsessed with this place!! Between the cottage core decor and the whole lobster stuffed with risotto - we couldn't get enough. I could literally eat the gem lettuce salad every day for the rest of my life and be happy. We asked the chef the secret ingredients in his dressing and not only did he tell us but he gave us to-go containers of the dressing. Okay so this was an incredibly fun surprise - they managed to serve a no-whammy meal! 3 apps (lettuce, arancini, scallops), 2 entrees (rigatoni and pea risotto), 1 drink (lemonade mocktail), 2 desserts (pineapple cake and some piece of strawberry perfection), and literally everything was delicious! It had a great balance of some dishes having gorgeous plating and being that classic "elevated" dining experience (the risotto), but then other dishes were simple mouth watering delicious classics done perfectly (the rigatoni). The waiter was on top of us the whole time, they were super friendly, the ambience is really nice without feeling stuffy....yeah it was just a great experience. Pricey for sure, but great. Was there opening week. Very limited menu. Some items are tasty though tiny portions. No theme tied then together, just a bit all over the place. Very slow service, not friendly, but not rude. But I'll blame that on them just being new and still settling in. Very small space, but pretty decent decor. The vibe was great for younger adults, which we needed in this town. Most other restaurants cater to a much older crowd. Overall way too expensive for their offerings and the location. Happy I tried it but don't see any reason to return. read more

The restaurant is beautiful and the food and drinks are very creative! I love that they have live music and the piano player was amazing the night we were there. My only complaint is the size of the drinks. As other reviewers have noted they have very small pours and the martini glasses are tiny. At $18+ for drinks they need to be bigger. The menu is more inventive than every restaurant I've been to in Bergen County except for Saddle River Inn. The preparation and presentation are terrific. Service was great and management makes their presence known. This place has bartenders with skill (ie a martini isn't just a cold glass full of vodka) and they will make whatever cocktail one desires. The place is a total remodel of a previous restaurant with a pleasant layout but acoustics make for an environment on the loud side. Prices are high and acoustics keep it from getting 5 stars. I am IMPRESSED. The food was incredibly well done. We had Tuna Tartare and the temperature was perfect and tuna tasted fresh. Rigatoni was perfectly cooked and Ragú was very tasty, no skimping on beef and really well seasoned. Lobster was really good also, I loved the use of seasoning (rosemary/saffron) that a lot of restaurants do not even bother with. This food was worth the price, this is not just a pretentious place trying to gouge customers with the idea of "luxury" but rather a very well prepared meal in a fantastic atmosphere that pays attention to detail, from decor to table placements and cutlery/plates/glasses.
