Peter (LA Strong Construction) was a great choice for our EBB retrofitting. When I received the EBB grant, I got five estimates from mid-sized businesses to larger foundation companies. In the end, I chose Peter, who works independently, because his estimate was reasonable, he had great communication, and his reviews were excellent. Peter completed the job over two days on our 2300 sq. ft. two-story house. He arrived to start the job on the day and the time we'd agreed. Peter worked on his own and spent several hours under the house completing the first part of the job. He came back one week later, as agreed, and spent several more hours to finish. I really appreciated that he tried to be considerate to us, the homeowners, since my husband and I both work from home. There was no audible music, no loud phone calls, no running back and forth between different jobs, and he cleaned up each day. He made sure our gate was closed and the access to the crawlspace covered (against animals) at the end of each visit. From start to finish, Peter was professional and efficient. He stayed in contact with me, giving me email updates, responding helpfully to my questions, and was on top of things every step of the way. He completed the online requirements and did everything he could and only left me to do those things that a homeowner could do. LA Strong Construction completed an earthquake retrofit for my house, making the process quick and easy. They are approved by California Residential Mitigation Program that offers a direct rebate for this service. The estimate was free and inline with the price range I researched online. The actual retrofit for my ~1000 sq foot home was completed in under 3 days. For the rebate, there are a lot of forms/documentation to upload. LASC completed a majority of this, making the process very easy. Once the work was completed and approved, the program paid LASC directly. I only had to pay the difference. read more

This review is long overdue. I bought a house in LA in 2019 and had Peter Chirelli of LA Strong Construction retrofit my 1935 house. I had only two bids, and Peter's was lower. He and his crew were great. They were efficient and nice. They came every day on time and finished the work on the day that Peter promised me. He goes beyond his work too. He even came after my job to put in light bulbs that I bought! That helped me out a lot, and I was really pleased. Peter came out and gave a very reasonable estimate and the "before" photos. We approved the estimate -- we didn't want to wait for the State program. Peter followed up with drawings and a permit from the City of Long Beach. He showed up on the days that he said he was going to, knocked on the door to remind us he was here, and he left the work site clean and neat at the end of each day. At the end he presented us with signed off permits, photos (before and after), and all of the paperwork completed for us to present to our EQ insurance for a discount. We took advantage of the EBB retrofit program as our house is not bolted to the foundation. Our house is about 100 years old and we knew we wanted to do everything we could to protect it. We got roughly five quotes and they ranged from absurdly expensive to exactly what Peter had quoted us. In the end it was how direct and straightforward he was with explaining the process to us. It took us a very long time to get up and running because he was extremely busy, but in the end he cranked it out in just a few consecutive days. Our house has an extremely small crawl space. At one point he accidentally disconnected a wire and our heater and certain lights stopped working. We called him up just in case it was caused by his work. I think most contractors would just ignore us, but he apologized profusely and was over right away to fix it. He even tidied up the problem wires and we were back in business. He's extremely dedicated and I would certainly recommend him to anyone. Great guy and extremely good work! read more

We hired Peter to do our EBB (earthquake bolt and brace) seismic retrofit partially using the grant money we got from the program, installing metal plates between the foundation and the sill plates, installing plywood on the cripple walls. We had several bids for the work and he was the best price. He helped fill out the application forms and guided me a bit through the process. After we were approved for the work by the program he was a little bit difficult to get in touch with, but we still had months before the deadline so I wasn't terribly worried. He ended up coming through at a time that we agreed on and finishing the work pretty fast. He uploaded all the necessary documents and photos to EBB and provided us with the documents for our insurance company, which was very helpful. He did the work all on his own. I used them because they are very experienced and knowledgeable about seismic retrofitting. The foundation of my house was very weak and I was worried it wouldn't hold up. They had contractors and engineers working to redo my foundation so that it would be strong. They also did some wall work to strengthen some of the old wood beam walks I have. Going with Dingbat Retrofit was about as easy as it can get when dealing with a contractor. Peter came out for the initial estimate very quickly, and was willing to work on the upcoming Sunday to get the seismic retrofit done ASAP. He discussed the details of the retrofit, and showed us the brackets to be used, as well as the CA code guidelines. They came on time, and worked quickly, taking multiple pictures of the work performed and emailing them to us, and provided us with a CEA Insurance Retrofit Verification form afterwards.
