This is a great pet friendly hotel. I was on the lowest ground floor with a walk out patio. The bathroom needs updating, and it was noisy from the AC and a pipe in the ceiling, but it was comfortable, just bring earplugs. The son-in-law, who works in the lobby bar was very friendly. We were able to enjoy the happy hour from $5-6 and was a friendly atmosphere. The grounds are nice and was like a Disney film. There were rabbits, three deer popped out and frolicked and other animals ran about. My cat enjoyed watching. read more

We are locals, but we decided to stay after a concert on an evening in October. It's a lovely and interesting place. The decor is fun and unique. The bed and pillows were very comfortable, and the room and grounds were quiet. Everything was super clean and the staff was professional, helpful, and friendly. Our room had a private balcony and it was warm enough to sit outside for a while, which was a treat. There's a lot to enjoy right there on site including the spa (we've enjoyed it on other occasions), walking about the grounds, and the bistro. The breakfast was amazing and we'll go back to try other meals. If you get a chance to catch a concert here, you'll love the intimate musical experience whether indoors or out on the large covered patio. read more

We had an amazing 4 night stay. We had a large room with fireplace and balcony where we could enjoy morning coffee or evening wine. The staff was beyond friendly and often thanked us for staying there during our stay. The rooms and hotel were very clean and everything was comfortable as well. The bistro was very quaint with delicious food and very sizable portions. We enjoyed the spa as well as the hike on Buttermilk Falls Trail (including being picked up by the hotel on the way back so we didn't have to hike in both directions). The restaurant recommendations made by the hotel were also excellent. If we ever return to the region, we will definitely stay at La Tourelle. read more

This is my favorite place to stay when visiting Ithaca. This is a family owned resort built on property that had been family farm. The resort is beautifully situated, the rooms are spacious, and the staff is warm, friendly, helpful and professional. The Bistro restaurant is great for any meal. While situated in what has a rural feel, the property is right down the street from downtown and the Ithaca Commons. Especially for Ithaca College parents, you won't want to stay anywhere else once you have stayed here. And you will save yourself some money compared to the downtown Marriott which is nice but usually too crowded and overpriced. read more

our experience with La Tourellle was a little disappointing. Based upon descriptions on-line we were anticipating a great weekend getaway. The Hotel and Hotel staff pretty much met that expectation. Where the property fell short was The Bistro Restaurant and the condition of the grounds. The ownership of the restaurant would be better served to hire experienced waitstaff rather than the young college age people who only have a rudimentary idea of what it takes to provide a good dining experience. Their attention to their job can best be described as lax. Proper training is totally lacking. The food itself was OK but not outstanding. The other stand out that was surprising was the condition of the grounds surrounding the property. This place could be spectacular, but all of the flowerbeds and landscaping seems to be a victim of benign neglect. Flowerbeds choked with weeds and untrimmed bushes and landscaping may be their environmental goal of country rustic but it gives a seedy appearance to what otherwise could be an outstanding setting. read more

This place is clean, but unbelievably strict about the current Covid guidelines. I was walking with my girlfriend outside and was reprimanded TWICE about not wearing a mask, no one was even within 50 feet of us. Absolutely B.S. We paid a lot of money for our room here too, top package. And wore our masks through the buildings every second. We forget the for one minute, and they're on you like flies on you know what. These businesses are in tough spots, but please don't lose sight of who pays your bills. We LOVED this place before this issue happened too, planned on originally coming back many more times. We just got back from a quick trip to Ithaca to visit our daughter, and found this hidden gem. The setting was beautiful, with lots of outdoor spaces to explore. We walked the trail to Buttermilk Falls several times. The room was comfy and well-kept, and our breakfast outside at the Bistro was delicious. We particularly loved the bread straight from Ithaca Bakery. The entire staff was very helpful and knowledgeable. I would highly recommend, and will definitely be returning. read more

I'm really very confused by all of the positive reviews of La Tourelle. I don't like to give independent businesses poor reviews, but I feel like La Tourelle's website does a bait and switch. I found the hotel completely outdated, dusty and in need of a major overhaul. It's nothing like the way it's portrayed or described on the website or in the TripAdvisor reviews. It's not "quirky" or "boutique"--it's just plain unpleasant. The grounds are weedy and overgrown--depressing. I seriously suspect that most of these Yelp reviews are fake. The website completely miss represents the actual quality of the hotel. Do yourself a favor and stay someplace modern and clean, like the Marriott Commons. La Tourelle needs a MAJOR overhaul. read more

It has been years since our last visit to this place. We had our dog with us, so we were in a lower room that was not as nice as some of the main rooms. The room itself was a bit disappointing. Our bathroom was outdated and there was no carpeting at all, just cold tile floor and no place for us to unpack. There was what looked like a mouse hole behind the toilet area as well. We were staying for a week and there was no dresser to put anything. No cabinets or under sink storage. We had to live out of our suitcase for the week, which was kind of annoying. However, it was conveniently located next to the back area which was a lovely large expanse of grass that our little girl just loved romping around in. We also faced the back looking out to the quieter part of the property and it was very peaceful having the windows open at night and hearing nothing but crickets. The property was a lot more run down than we remembered it. There was weedy vegetation all over, especially right up against the building. Their booklet about the place is sorely in need of an update. They talked about a garden and chickens but all we found was a mess of overgrown weeds and what looked like a coop for ducks. The barn was a mess compared to how it used to look and everything kind of looks a little worn out.....like the owners are just tired of it at this point. It made us feel a little sad. We settled in pretty quickly and having been to the area before we had an agenda planned. La Tourelle hosts a very nice wine tasting hour between 5pm and 6pm. It was great to try local wines and cheeses and meet fellow guests at the Inn as well. Scott (the owner) was taking care of us for most of the week as his son in law was recovering from the flu. He was a nice host and gave us a lot of tips for things to do and many of the things that the hotel offered that we may not have known. One evening, we were telling him we were going to order in and he offered to set a table up for us on the side patio so we could sit with out pup. We ordered from John Thomas steak house (affiliated with the property) and the service and food was top notch. It was nice to have that little space to ourselves and it made us feel really welcome. So over the course of our stay some of the cosmetic things fell to the side as the staff made up for it ten times. One evening, as we poured some coffee, I mentioned to my husband it wasn't that hot. The front desk manager went to the back when she heard me say that and brought out a fresh cup for me that was steaming hot. She also made some arrangements for us to stay an extra night without us even having to change rooms. We got room service from the restaurant one morning. Meh.....maybe it got cold from the time they got it over to us, but it was just ok. The staff and cleaning crew were all stellar. All friendly and accommodating. They have the best soaps and shampoos in the rooms. I'll admit I was packing them away to get more each time cleaning came in. LOL. The location is really perfect. Close to Cornell and downtown Ithaca. We took a whole day touring around the lakes, picniking and checking out some of the vineyards. So many were dog friendly and our Emily had a great time. There was even a great goat farm not far from there. Such fun. We didn't try the spa or the sauna. I wish I had. Having the dog with us made it kind of difficult. Overall, the place is really quite nice and we will return again the next time we are in the area. It's not perfect, but compared to staying in any hotel, you will never find better service or a warmer welcome. read more

La Tourelle was ALMOST going to get a four star review from this visit, but they REALLY saved it in the end!!! Showed up with two girlfriends for a weekend of debauchery and spa. When we arrived our room wasn't ready--here is where the star was at risk-- but somehow everyone else checking in at the same time as me had a ready room....I was not best pleased. But, with amazingly thoughtful Bill at the helm, we headed into Ithaca for some pub lunch and returned when they called us to say our room was ready. Room was lovely-- easily big enough for the three of us, electric fireplace, giant squishy beds. No complaints! We went for a wine tasting at the nearby Six Mile Vinyard, then came back for some local wine tasting at their bar. We headed out into the snowy Ithaca night for some dinner. When we were done--around 11:00 pm-- we could not find a cab company ANYWHERE to get us back. It was snowing, eighteen degrees, and it's an hour and fifteen minute walk. We called the desk to ask them to find a cab service for us and they DID!!!!! We were so impressed to be rescued!!!! Sunday morning we spent in the--as always-- wonderful August Moon Spa having the alcohol cleansed from our pores, and as we were getting ready to leave, there was Bill!! We stayed here due to the process of elimination: most places with charm in the finger lakes require a minimum 2-night stay during peak season. We only had one night to spare, so it was either La Tourelle or the Holiday Inn or Country Suites. Wanting to choose a local business, we went with La Tourelle. We weren't too disappointed, because the reviews I'd read beforehand prepared me for what I found: a quirky boutique hotel in need of renovation. The positives about this place center mostly around its serenity. The grounds are tranquil and the view from our room was so pastoral -- leaves just about to turn, a stunning sunrise, rolling green hills and a pristine pond complete with lily pads and surrounding gazebos. It was very relaxing to wake up in the morning and take in this view and crisp fall air. It was also surprisingly quiet at this hotel. There was even a wedding going on the night we stayed, but we honestly didn't hear much. Being able to relax with this kind of silence was wonderful. The negatives about the place: kind of hokey theme, building in need of renovation, high price point. I can't really fault the place too much for a high price point, because nearly every place in the fingerlakes charges between $200-$300 a night, depending on the room you choose. Our room had a gas fireplace, lovely hardwood floors and a very large bathroom with soaking tub. When we arrived in our room, however, parts of it were not entirely clean, and we had to ask the front desk to adjust this while we were out for dinner. They did come and rectify this situation and gave us a small discount on the room. They handled this well, but I was surprised that it even happened at this price point. If you're looking into places to stay in the fingerlakes, La Tourelle isn't a bad choice, but don't expect it to be luxurious. It's got character and attempts to go the extra mile (friendly enough front desk and complimentary wine hour from 5-6), but if you've stayed at large luxury brand hotels, it just will not compare, so enjoying it requires an expectation adjustment. One thing I really enjoyed -- the real wood-burning fire in the lobby the morning we left. It was just delicious and filled the entire place with a sense of warmth and well-being. For this fire alone, I might consider coming back in the winter time! read more

We had a wonderful two night stay. Staff is friendly and helpful. We travel with our dogs, so we were so glad to find that La Tourelle has pet friendly rooms. They provide a "poop pick up station" outside. Dog owners: please pick up after your pooch. This is the only way we can continue to have businesses welcome us! Our room was very large with two king beds, very comfortable. (We bring covers to lay on top of the bed to collect any pet hair or dirt from paws). Bathroom was clean and updated. The grounds are lovely. You can hike down to Buttermilk Falls directly from the hotel. We had breakfast from the Bistro. It was delicious. We will definitely return. read more

La Tourelle is pretty much in a category of its own. I feel funny calling it a resort, because it's not the typical sprawling resort with activities everywhere. Nor is it just a hotel. I've come to think of it as a charming B&B situated inside of a hotel. We've made an annual tradition of traveling up here for New Year's Eve (which, more importantly, happens to be my birthday). We get the Paris room, which is an executive suite with hardwood floors (we aren't really into the carpeting in the smaller rooms), plushy chairs, and a gas fireplace... not to mention an amazingly comfortable bed, which everyone else here seems to rave about as well. It's a beautiful, peaceful escape from the city - I could sit on the sofa in front of the fireplace and stare out the window of the balcony over the snow for hours. We also finally got around to checking out their cocktail hour this year - they have a selection of whites and reds available to taste, but the tasting portions are rather generously poured. (They also had Ithaca beer for people who didn't want wine). And because we always go for the New Year, I'm not sure if it's just for the holiday or if they do it all the time, but they also leave you a complimentary bottle of Knapp champagne, sitting in ice. And now I feel like I've told you too much. If you happen to beat us to reserving the Paris room on New Year's Eve next year, don't be surprised if a very angry birthday girl crawls through your balcony to take your bottle of champagne. read more

We stayed at La Tourelle again recently and we were absolutely astonished at the amazing service. We had to make a last-minute reservation and had a few special requests. The staff at La Tourelle went out of their way to meet our needs and make our stay lovely and memorable. I simply can't recommend this place highly enough. We also took note of the new "wall of fame" of celebrities who have stayed at La Tourelle. If this place is good enough for both The Dalai Lama and Courtney Love, then it's good enough for you. read more

My boyfriend and I stayed at La Tourelle for my friend's wedding which was also held at the resort. It was a BEAUTIFUL wedding and the hotel's staff was so helpful and accommodating. Because the wedding party had the nicest rooms in the place, we had a normal room. The rooms were really comfortable. The beds were quite cloudlike. Like other reviews said, they weren't very new, and there were definitely improvements that could be made, but the grounds were amazing and it just felt relaxing on the whole. We took a walk down their little paths, and thought they weren't much of a hike, it was a nice way to start off the morning before breakfast. I wish that more trails were nearby or that there were shuttles taking us to different places, but it doesn't take away from how much of a good time we had there. read more

This is the PERFECT place if you are in need of some serious R&R. La Tourelle is not one of those stuffy, pretentious inns. It is warm and cozy with beautiful grounds and charming rooms. It's just a few miles from downtown Ithaca and shopping. And BONUS: they allow pets, however, only two rooms are allocated for the critters. The staff is very friendly without being intrusive. The lobby has a nice fireplace and comfy chairs. Our room was on the far end of the building - so quiet with our own little porch and views. The bed was like sleeping on a cloud. (wish I could stuff it in my suitcase.) Behind the main building are trails and a small vineyard. I initially came for my interest in the "Simply Red Bistro." I can't cook to save my life but I watch all the "chef shows." Chef Samantha Izzo appeared on the TV show "Chopped" and I found her work creative. I had the Saturday morning brunch and what a treat it was! I ordered the Chorizo and Creamy Herb Polenta. My mouth is watering as I write. This dish consists of a dense "cake" of polenta topped with a lovely, perfectly cooked, poached egg, surrounded by delicious slices of chorizo and fresh asparagus spears, and covered with a buttery hollandaise. The portion was perfect - not overwhelming - with an amazing marriage of flavors. My hub had the Mama Red's Giant Mexican Burrito. He dug in and never looked up - a sure sign of excellence! Take the word "giant" seriously. We had breakfast here on Monday, 10/19/2015. While upon entering, there was a foul stench in the foyer, once we entered the bistro, the environment changed entirely. It was quite quiet, almost spa-like in how everyone was whispering softly. We enjoyed delicious cocktails - a blood mary and mimosa, and the coffee was excellent. I enjoyed a goat cheese and asparagus omelette, and my sister had the oatmeal crusted french toast. She loved it. My side of bacon crispy was wonderful - thick slab bacon cooked to perfection. Our server, Andy J was excellent, tending to our every need. Not to mention nice eye candy (I suspect he may also work in the spa?) But overall the experience was memorable and delicious. La Tourelle rates up in the top ten for places I have stayed in my life. It is easily one of the greatest hotels you will find in the Ithaca area. We stayed here for two nights over the holidays. The bed provided quite possibly the best night of sleep I've ever had! The breakfast, mentioned by others here, is truly amazing - we had the Belgian waffle and an egg dish, and both were incredible. And huge! In fact, we boxed up all of our leftovers and enjoyed them for several days afterward. I would absolutely recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Ithaca - or even to a local looking for a quiet weekend and a chance to "get away" from it all without driving too far. read more

We picked la tourelle for our honeymoon and we couldn't be happier . The staff was very helpful from the moment we walked in. Our king bed was the comfiest bed we've ever slept in. With all of the amenities on premises we found it very hard to leave and see the amazing sights of Ithaca. We ordered room service from both the bistro, and John Tomas. The food was amazing except the steak could have been cooked better for the price.. (The outside was very charred but the center was medium rare, what we asked for) the smoked trout was ridiculously good. We also made great use of the gazebos because they were so peaceful. Family owned, beautiful property, charming rooms...we had a Fireplace Valley View King Room. At La Tourelle, "charming" is an understatement. I love La Tourelle and make sure to stay there every time I visit Ithaca. I've gone a few times just for a weekend away from NYC even though there are better places nearby, just because I love this hotel. Some of the rooms were redone a few years ago and are simultaneously cozy and spacious, which I didn't even think was possible. I've heard anecdotally that some of the rooms need to be redone; this hasn't been my experience, but that's something to keep in mind. Still, I'm speaking just to my own experience and I've really liked the rooms. I guess the takeaway is that they can be hit or miss. There are paths in the woods behind the hotel for low intensity hiking through some lovely trees and past waterfalls. The area behind the hotel also has a wide open grassy area with a gazebo and lovely view. The owners of La Tourelle are incredibly warm and their friendliness can be felt throughout the hotel. They put out fresh oatmeal cookies every day and have a free cocktail hour every day. The brunch at the restaurant is also delicious and you should definitely check it out if you have time. I know friends have stayed at La Tourelle while visiting Cornell; while you have to drive to the campus, it isn't far. read more

Right away you realize you are not in a corporate hotel but a family-owned business where the staff really cares about your experience. I can't say enough about their genuine kindness. The room we stayed in (double king) was clean and extremely spacious - perfect for our 4 person getaway. The only reason I rated 4 instead of 5 stars is that the facility needs updating. Where do I begin? My wife and I had so much difficulty finding a getaway for the weekend until she spotted La Tourelle Hotel in Ithaca. We arrived in the early evening and loved it the moment we drove up the drive. Its a quaint French Style Chalet. A fire was roaring in the lobby. The lobby is homey. Clay tile floors, natural wood work, a beautiful stone fire place, and a wine bar. The foyer is lined w autographed posters of from events in the area. The hallways are decorated with fine art work throughout the hotel. The Bistro is gorgeous. Pencil drawings decorate the walls and the ceiling is canopied by beautiful stained glass work. Upon arrival, Carlton upgraded our room after showing us a few different available rooms w varying views and amenities. We took a valley view room w a fire place which really provided heat and romance. Every room has a book shelf full of books, if you want to read and chill. In the evening we had wine at the wine bar which is open til 10pm. From 5-6pm wine is complimentary. The wine selection is wonderful. You will love it. In the morning we ate breakfast at the Bistro. I had pancakes w chocolate chips and syrup and my bride had french toast. We both enjoyed our breakfast. We did not take advantage of the fine dining at the John Thomas Steak House, but chose to eat downtown in Ithaca. Bottomline, we loved our time here and will return this summer. We highly recommend visiting Carlton and La Tourelle whenever you visit Ithaca or decide to tour the area. Have fun. Ithaca is awesome. read more

Everything about our stay was incredible. The staff was friendly, welcoming, and knowledgeable. Breakfast at the Bistro was delicious and there was a great selection. Our room was large yet cozy. The wine hour from 5 - 6 pm was a great way to enjoy area wines while meeting other guests. We also had an outstanding meal at the steakhouse that is on property, probably the best scallops that I have ever had. Everyone could not have been nicer or more accommodating. Finally the spa . . . oh that spa! We had two treatments while we were there, and they were amazing! My sister planned my bachelorette for ten of my family and friends at this resort and I can not say enough WONDERFUL things about our experience. The place was absolutely beautiful, unique and immaculate. The staff truly went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable and enjoying our stay. I highly recommend La Tourelle if you are staying in the Ithaca area. Outside of town, neighboring Buttermilk Falls Park- this hotel offers a quiet, charming, family-run hotel. The entire staff that our bachelorette party met was fantastic. In the colder weather, you are greeted by a lovely wood burning fire in the lobby. Each of the rooms for our party was spacious and the decor simple yet quaint. Our accommodations included breakfast at the Bistro onsite. Food was great and the service was equally good for our large party. Loved the stained glass of the ceiling in the Bistro- beautiful. I was really impressed how accommodating everyone was when we needed to inquire about using a room for a small gift exchange. Realizing that our party was too large and we wouldn't fit comfortably in one room, we asked if there was just a room we could use for a bit to present some gifts to our Bride-to-be. We didn't want to monopolize the lobby- as other guests would of course be there or coming in and out, What Cameron and the staff set up for us on the fly was wonderful and more than we could have expected! We really just needed a separate room and some chairs to seat our party of 13. When we returned from our wine tour that afternoon- they had set up some partitions and strung some pretty lights to help liven up the space. They set us up with glass, plates, even a stereo system. We knew they were being nice to let us use the space, and said the only thing we may need to bother them for was ice--- but they took care of everything for us as well. Really loved this local gem in Ithaca. And will be my absolute recommendation to anyone I know headed to the area. Thanks again for a wonderful stay. read more
