I've written two reviews in the last four years, and as we sat at this restaurant, I thought "I have to review this." Rafa, the owner, is incredibly friendly! He shared his recommendations with us and we ordered the Baja fish taco, pork taco, and burrito de Ana. Our food arrived incredibly quickly, and it was all outstanding! So flavorful and tender. The sauces were absolutely delicious on top. I hope this is the start of a long tenure in Pennington for Rafa. We will be back soon! read more

Stopped in for lunch one time, and another time tried some of their food at a local community event. Both times, the food was tasty, and service was pretty solid. Inside the restaurant, the ambiance is pretty nice, and they have a good amount of room in there, plus lots of different options for food. I think I've had tacos and flautas, and I've appreciated both. I'd forgotten this was nearby in the area, would be open to going back again for lunch! read more

The tacos were solid -- honestly some of the better ones I've had in the area. That said, the prices are on the high side at $4-$5 per taco. Eight tacos plus guac came out to about $45, which feels steep for the portion size. On the positive side, the order was ready exactly at my pickup time, and the person who took my order was very friendly. Good food, just a bit pricey for what you get. read more

Lovely lunch today! It's a cute little place with an owner who treats everyone and every meal with care. We shared a small order of chips and guac; more chips were brought to us shortly after without us asking. The chips were perfect and not greasy. We enjoyed the guac so much! We both had LaUnica bowls; I had cochinita pibil and my companion has the chicken fajita. We loved it all! I'm so glad we discovered LaUnica! We'll be back! read more

Fantastic local shop with fresh ingredients, changing menu options and very friendly service.

Sadly this was one of my worst meals of the last several years. It took 45 minutes for the pickup order to be ready on a random Tuesday. The estimate was 20 minutes so we sat around waiting (with no estimate) until the food appeared. In one word, this food was uninspired. There was no seasoning. The tacos were bland and sparsely crafted. The esquites were a watery mess with corn that tasted and seemed straight from the can. The flautas consisted of un-seasoned, dry chicken in an even drier tortilla. I guess the lack of Mexican options in this area mean places like La Unica can survive doing the bare minimum. Looking at others pictures, I see completely different preparations of the same food which is even more disappointing. read more

I hate to say this bc last week my husband and I had a good meal (enchiladas) but yesterday was a disaster. I called in an order for "fajitas meal for 4" at 5pm and was given a pick up time of 5:45. I sent my son to pick up and they looked at him like they had no idea of the order. Then said they were running behind and asked him to come back at 6:30 (45 min later than original time). He went back at 6:30 and they told him they told him 6:45 - not ready. So he waited. When he entered into the store front they also ignored him for a bit before acknowledging him - and with no one else in the place. At 6:45 they handed him our meal plus "2 tres leches cakes" as an apology for the delay. I opened up the meal and we had what appeared to be leftover chicken scraps dried out - enough for 2 fajitas (not a meal for 4 people) with no onions and 4 red pepper slivers. We also got about 30 tortillas - would have fed 10 people if they were eating only the tortillas. Also got a small container of rice - again, would feed about "2" and a vat of black beans - again, would probably feed 10. 2 small containers of guacamole and green and red sauce and some corn chips. This was not a "meal for 4" - it was leftover scraps of the dinner components thrown together an hour later than pick up time. 75$ down the drain. Sorry to say this again - but NOT GOOD - POOR on many fronts. Not going back. read more

Enjoyed a delicious lunch at La Unica. Arrived 30 minutes after open and was greeted by the owner who was very welcoming and helpful. We order the chicken flautas, 2 carne asada tacos, 2 chicken tacos, and 2 carnitas taco. Everything was absolutely delicious and well prepared. Our favorite was the carnitas tacos, they are a must try. Ambiance was very comfortable and tidy, which made our experience that much better. Also they provide free salsas for your meal in the back that you can mix and match to your pleasing. Overall, Great food! Great host! Great place! read more

We tried La Unica in Penington, NJ today for the first time. The tacos were amazing! The owner (Raja) is great. He makes traditional Mexican food, and he sources the best ingredients and makes everything from scratch, and you can tell by the taste and quality of his food. We had the asada, chicken, pork and fish tacos and they were excellent. The fish tacos were the best we have ever had and having lived in Southern California for 20 years we have had many great tacos, but Raja's are the best! La Unica is fantastic, and Raja is an amazing chef. I highly recommend trying this restaurant! read more

I'm honestly floored that they don't have more Yelp reviews. This place is possibly one of the better Mexican taquerias in the area. Yes. Even better than Tacoria. I ordered an assortment for take out. Papas con chorizo, baja fish, asada, cochinita pibil, rajas con queso, esquites, rice, and family guac. It was fantastic on every level. Soft corn tortillas. Flavorful meats. Not too skimpy toppings. All around incredible. They were on a 20-ish minute ride home and kept their shape. Seriously impressive. It's a smaller restaurant and the order took longer than anticipated. But the food really speaks for itself. Great value. Amazing taste. Will definitely come again - SOON! The food was delicious. The dinners were beautifully detailed with their sauces but the taco's came with just the meat and the sauces were in the back room to fix for yourself. I came across this hidden gem while going to my nail appointment a few weeks ago , my nephew really wanted to eat here and I noticed the beautiful indoor decor as we walked by , and it was really captivating to the eye , especially the portrait they have of Frida K. Covered in butterflies , I ordered a cheese quesadilla for my nephew my daughter only wanted a can of brisk & I decided to not get anything due to waiting to eat with the person I , which he absolutely loved! But my review is more for the beautiful service I received. When my nephew finished eating we went back outside to sit on the bench because I was waiting for someone , the owner saw us sitting outside and it was really hot , and he offered us water and to come back in and welcomed us in and said we can stay as long as we want. Only issue was that the corn tortillas for the family dinner stuck together. We got a few free without ripping them, but I ended up using a flour tortilla that I had at home, which was fine.
