We were looking for a quick bite after visiting the beautiful Princeton Art Museum, and we found a great place! At first, walking in gave me a wave of nostalgia because it reminded me of the Olives I used to visit in New York City. While it's not the same restaurant, this one absolutely stands on its own. I ordered the chicken salad sandwich, and my husband had a kale salad loaded with vegetables and all kinds of good things like pecans, carrots, red cabbage, chick peas and more...he loved it. Everything tasted incredibly fresh, and you could tell the quality of the ingredients was a priority. The pricing was also very reasonable, especially for how good the food was. We took our meals to go and walked down the street to a picnic table, which made for a perfect, relaxed lunch in Princeton. Great food, great value, and a spot I'd happily return to. The pesto tortellini was my favorite. The pesto is nutty and bright. The tortellino itself is decent. The spanakopita was definitely on the saltier side, very filling but unfortunately quite soggy at the bottom. The flan is meh, I would not recommend. It tastes ok if you've never had flan before or don't particularly care for it, but I was quite disappointed by the lumpy texture (see the rampant bubbles throughout) and the taste was underwhelming. Inside gets very crowded during lunch, sort of cramped. Most people seem to go for the sandwiches- I've had some cold ones from here before, which were fine if a bit lackluster, but maybe the hot sandwiches are better. read more

Olives is my go-to quick breakfast place. I always get a pork roll, egg and cheese there and it costs $7.95. Substitutions for the bread can be made for an additional cost for a bagel. I do enjoy this on a bagel but it taste just as good on the bread I typically get it on. The service is good, they make the sandwiches on the spot, so usually there will be a wait. I would say the wait is typically 10 minutes long. This is a fresh deli and the ambiance is pretty much seating outside and very few seats inside. This is a quick in and out place to go and a great place to grab a quick bite. Be sure to try their Baklava and mini Fruit Tart. Those two are amazing. You can skip on their Flan. read more

Olives is genuinely a pleasant place to get your food. I ordered some sandwiches for lunch called ahead. Still had to wait about 15 minutes. The sandwiches were very well crafted. While I waited for my order I ended up getting some double fudge brownies, truffle baby cake, and cookies. Not only are the staff friendly and knowledgeable on their food, but they will have a friendly conversation/greeting with you while you shop. The only downside is that there's no seating available inside. Will definitely return again to try out some more items from their menu. read more

TLDR - delicious moussaka!, good variety of to-go options, friendly staff I stopped by Olives to pick up a quick dinner to go. Inside looks like your typical deli space where they have some grab and go cold sandwiches, salads, snacks and then further down you can pick from some main meals. It took me a few minutes to choose my dinner since there were so many delicious options. I settled on the following: Moussaka slice- haven't had this before but at a Greek festival I saw someone carrying a plate of it and I knew that I had to try a slice for myself. I love a good baked casserole- type dish and this moussaka was a delicious blend of eggplants, hearty meat sauce and mashed potatoes. String beans- a little bit overcooked and tough, had a light lemony sauce Wild rice - perfectly fluffy to me. Seasoned well My meal was $10.95 which isn't too bad for the amount of food I got. I do wish the staff had microwaved my food a little bit longer because my meal was slightly cold. A staple for regulars in the Princeton area. It serves good food in a very timely manner (read: make sure you have your payment ready when you go to the cashier - don't hold up the line!!). Some items are hit or miss, so be careful because they give you pretty sizeable portions I got the crab cake and grain rice. They warmed it up, but it was still cold which I wasn't too fond of. It comes with a spicy mayo sauce which paired well with the crab cake -- I do wish they had more of a crunch on the cake. I also got the vanilla cannoli with chocolate chips, and a Snapple apple. The total was a little over $16, which is about average for the area, especially considering the portions are large. If you're going for the first time, try going with someone who has been there before so they can direct you to which area you might want to order from, and where to pay. read more

I've gotten catering from here before, but today was the first time that I actually walked into the actual brick and mortar location. It was definitely busy and there were a bunch of different stations, so I checked everything out before settling on the sandwich station. I got a grilled chicken, spinach, provolone, and pesto sandwich, which was OK but not amazing. The sandwich was pre-made (wrapped in tinfoil) but they did heat it up for me which was nice. The price point was kind of high, but as another reviewer mentioned, it's Princeton so it's kind of expected. I dunno, overall, I walked away feeling like "meh," which is sort of what I expected before I walked in. Not sure I'll be back unless I'm in desperate need for a sandwich. read more

I took it to go and actually ended up chowing down at Small World Coffee next door, but there are stools and a small counter if you wanted to eat it there. Overall, Olives is catered to the grab-and-go lifestyle. The sandwich was filling and fresh. It could've used a nice kick of flavor from hot sauce or something but all in all, I was satisfied. The menu offers lots of choices for lunch, dinner, catering, cakes, and more. There were also plenty of drinks, including my favorite kind of kombucha, so that was a plus. It's tasty, clean, just freaking awesome food! The store and environment are great, tidy, and you have a few tables in front or bar in the back to eat if you aren't taking out (this is a fast great takeout place). If it's a nice day, grab your dish and go across the street next to Princeton Public Library or to Palmer square. Not overly impressed by Olives. The fried chicken was not as advertised on the menu as "best you ever had" and the pieces were oddly cut. Some of the pieces were cut too large and a thigh piece had some breast meat attached to it. It was also fried too long and while it was crunchy, the meat was too dry and really tough to eat. The baked ziti wasn't good at all. The sauce was not seasoned well. It just had no flavor at all. There were giant globs of ricotta that wasn't mixed in well with the penne pasta The chicken penne in a garlic cream sauce was good. The garlic cream sauce made the dish but there wasn't much chicken in the dish. The ceaser salad was good with a nice sprinkling or grated cheese and breadcrumbs on top. read more
