Pooh and I came here for lunch. It's our second day in Playa Del Carmen and it's hot!!! We were at the beach and walking in the sand felt wonderful while thinking of -26 weather at home. This restaurant is on Fifth Avenue, the main walking street for tequila and a variety of restaurants and watering holes. It's out in the open with a covered part too. We started off with a pitcher of sangria. It was cold and delicious. I ordered the Volcano nachos and Pooh had the quesadillas. Pooh loved his quesadillas. They were very tasty and cheesy. Crunchy on the outside and soft interior My nachos were amazing. They were stacked (see photo) and each layer had all the fixings. They came with both hot and mild sauces. Lol these places crack me up. These are tex-mex food for picky Americans who stay on the strip. Great service. Sub par drinks (my husband endulged in one of their margs with a beer and I made fun of him the whole time, which, he also made fun of himself). The food is okay, like fast food mexican. Nothing super unique, fresh, or out of this world. But you know what it's perfect for? Those nights you're a little too drunk walking 5th street and need something to sober you up. The best part about this place is the live music in the mornings and evening, it creates such a fun and relaxing atmosphere. The food and drinks were both very good, and the service was friendly. Definitely a great spot to enjoy a meal while listening to live music. read more

February 9/2015: Me/Al/Clem/Red. Superbowl Sunday. This was an absolute TRAIN WRECK of an event. There was ZERO about this that was good! We went to this location several times during the week before, so we were familiar with the staff and they kinda recognized us as well. For the Super Bowl they JACKED the food & drink prices by 50%! We'd already paid a deposit so there was no going back. The food was TERRIBLE! It must have been a prepped well before I got my nachos. The same nachos were $220.00p on Saturday were $350.00p on Sunday. The same beer that was $250.00p on Saturday was $350p on Sunday. A disgusting display of corporate greed & I told the Manager that on Feb 10th to his face! To top it ALL off the internet feed playing the game cut out multiple times & we missed key plays as a result. I shall not visit this location (or any other La Vegabunda) again for the rest of my stay. I recommend that you avoid the greedy corporate vulture & visit the MANY other locations of any restaurant in the area. 100% NOT A DO OVER! read more

Playa del Carmen has a lot of options to choose from, and la Vagabunda is one of the best ones that I keep coming back to. The sitting is right on quinta avenida with lots of people watching opportunities and live music performed by talented bands and shows. the beer selection is impressive, as is the food menu. The tuna tacos made with homemade tortillas are what dreams are made of . The guacamole is fresh and comes with freshly made chips as does the aguachile and other seafood specialties. it is priced right and the service is always kind and phenomenal. The service was great. Our servers were very attentive and spoke perfect English... but humored my partner as he tried to practice his Spanish. The vibe was great. It's open air so you can see what's going on around you on the street. The music the night we went was great. The food was fantastic and so were the drinks. The Carajillo (Spanish drink made with Liquor 43 and espresso) was one of the best I've ever had - and we drank them a lot while we were in town. 10/10 would recommend this place. read more

We visited on our first night because we arrived late and our Airbnb was in the area. There was a game of beer pong going on and a live music show that added to the atmosphere we noticed there were families and couples and friends, enjoying dinner and drinks. My first drink was a Pina colada accompanied by a quesadilla. Neither were memorable, but the service was better than the food. read more

Cute place, nice atmosphere. The food is good, had a nice combination of flavors and the salsas were solid. Coffee is meh, but not bad. Stumbled across this spot right off of 5th avenue when in Playa del Carmen. They've got fun lighting on the top of the restaurant and it's great for people watching right on the street. We easily got a table on a Sunday evening. Menu options were available in both English and Spanish, which was helpful! We opted for shrimp tacos and a shrimp burrito bowl. The shrimp were cooked perfectly and the pineapple in the burrito bowl was ripe and so sweet! They had a nice selection of hot sauces to try too. Roberto who was the best server on our entire trip. We went on Wednesday evening 5/8 and from the time we walked in (right when they opened) we were treated with first class service. Roberto immediately sat us at the table of our choice and brought out the purse stand for us. He then brought out the menus and took our drink orders. We had the chips and salsa for an appetizer and can I just say that this had to be the freshest pico de gallo I have ever had in my life. It was so tasty to mix with the three types of salsa that comes with it. And come here if you're hungry because I ordered the Chicken Parmesan which came with marina sauce and garlic bread and the portion was huge. The food was soooo good and literally some of the best I've ever had! My friend got the chicken fajitas and the meat was sooo good with the homemade tortillas (they give you flour and corn). The place was empty when we arrived in the evening but people started arriving to eat. They had a guy playing live music and he was pretty good. I am so glad I found this place online because it's a gem and worth every penny and right by the beach and in close proximity to 5th Ave. Good place to people watch and be close to everything. Our taxi happened to drop us off on this side of 5th Ave and let me tell you it was meant to be because we were so happy when we left this place. We had dinner at La Vagabunda on our first night in Playa. It was close to our hotel, was showing the Packers game and had some good deals on beer - sold! We started with delicious fresh guacamole and salsas - definitely worth getting. I had some of their special pork tacos for dinner, which were great. The Mister opted for shrimp tacos which he also really liked. Nice staff, clean place (including restrooms), good food and fair prices. This is a great go to if you are able to. The food was great and the staff absolutely bring their A game to make it a great experience. The food was good, lots to choose from but you can also have something that is not on menu if they have it. They have great specials for food and beverages. Chef's kiss to this gem! The live entertainment is wonderful and the staff is very attentive. We had the calamari, ceviche, Baja tacos and arrenchera tacos. I've been to this restaurant a couple of times. The first time the service was good but while the food I ordered looked good on the plate - it was very bland. The second time I went the service was non-existent and the eggs were way over cooked and rubbery. I tried a bite of it but couldn't eat it. I asked if they could replace the egg with one that was cooked properly and they said that the cook refused - they said I'd need to pay for another egg if I wanted a replacement. I also had to ask multiple times for salt/pepper and milk for my tea. I can't in clear conscience recommend this place. read more

We quite liked this little place. What caught our eye was their sign that promoted Burgers -& Fries...4 four out of towners who'd eating their weight in tortilla chips, this place sounded too good! Not sure how much more I can add here to already helpful reviews. As a vegetarian, I definitely had a plenty to choose from. I ended up going with divorced chilaquiles (which is a funny name for ordering half and half - red & green sauce) with two eggs on top of that. I have lived in Mexico for a while now and have chilaquiles on regular bases, so I can definitely say from quite a few experiences, that their chilaquiles are really good! I would come back for it. Plus, they had other vegetarian options on the menu such as burrito, omelet and a few other things. Another thing that made my morning was that they had a non-dairy option for milk - soy milk - for my coffee. Yay! Definitely a great breakfast or lunch spot for a whole family! read more
