    Beautiful Christmas set up
    Ray K.

Laura was fantastic as well as the young lady who made my Holiday Gingerbread House coffee. No changes were needed to that!! The people were all warm and which made the time there so much more pleasant. Listen I've said it Over and over again that I love Christmas music.... Everything was great!! My crumb cake was delicious and I ate some of Christopher's lol This location is very convenient as far as location and I generally shop in that area. You all should be proud!! See you soon

Very cute coffee shop located across the street from the big lot/ Marshalls shopping center off little creek rd. in Norfolk. When I first walked in, I was greeted right away. The employees were very friendly and social. Very chill and laid back atmosphere. On my first visit, I went to redeem my 7.57 deal, which was good for a drink of your choice and a pastry. When I asked for a drink recommendation, they recommended the Spice Apple Pie Chai Latte. The spice apple pie chai latte was really delicious. It was a little sweeter than I would prefer but really good. I also ordered the old-fashioned crumb cake, which was a good balance to the chai latte since it was not an overly sweet pastry. They do not make all their bake items in-house, so make you ask which ones are if that matters to you. I enjoyed my drink and first visit so much that I wanted to go back again to try one of their espresso drinks. During my second visit, I mentioned the sweetness level of the chai being a little too much for me. I love the fact that they took that into consideration when they made my caramel latte and cut back on the syrups for that drink. My caramel latte was a perfect balance of flavor, espresso, and milk, and the sweetness level was spot on. The drinks at LaVie Always Latte are yummy, and I can't wait to try some more. They also do offer a breakfast menu, which I did forget about until after I ordered. I would recommend that they put their breakfast menu somewhere that is a little bit more visible. I will be adding this coffee shop to my list of my regular coffee shops and will definitely stop by again when I am in the tidewater/ Little Creek area.

On my days off I love to check out a new coffee shop and work on personal projects. I decided to pay the shop a visit to check out their Yelp 757 deal in which you get any drink and a pastry for $7.57 This shop was welcoming and the owner was super sweet and patient as I looked over the extensive menu of options. The shop has been open since April and is super charming. I got the Pistachio Cold Brew & the coffee cake which they warmed for me. Both were delicious. I stayed there a couple hours and it was nice to see how open and interactive they are with their customers. I definitely recommend giving one of these drinks a try.

    Ghost Smories, iced

This cafe has a huge array of specialty drinks and coffees- way more options than you'll find at most local coffee shops, certainly more than Starbucks! The staff was very friendly on our visit, and the Ghost Smories was REALLY delicious. Very sweet, and almost more along the lines of a milkshake even though it was iced coffee and not blended. I suspected the sweetness would be high going into it, and they definitely offer plenty of customizations to get the perfect drink for you. I'm looking forward to trying the pistachio cold brew next. The interior was well kept and had plenty of seating options for those wanting to stay to enjoy their drinks!

In the neighborhood and stopped by for a quick snack. I loved the cozy cafe vibe and the friendly staffI'm not a coffee drinker so I got some hot chocolate and an old fashioned coffee crumb cake. Both really hit the spot to start my day and I do recommend getting the coffee crumb cake heated up so it's nice and warm.

    Walnut protein coffee cake

My goodness, what an impressive selection of pastries! I'm a sucker for good, legitimate coffee crumb cake. And when I saw they had a protein rich walnut coffee cake, I knew I had to try it and it was a good decision. Moist cake, plenty of crunchy walnuts on top. I also drank a hot chai tea latte, which was good as well. Cashier was super friendly and smiled a lot, always important! Just know that the parking is limited.

Some exciting flavors are brewing at La Vie Always Latte Cafe, a new and innovative coffee and beverage spot that opened in April of this year. It offers both coffee and non-coffee based drinks, served hot, cold, and blended, as well as a variety of natural energy drinks and assorted pastries. New menu items are also being planned. La Vie occupies a stand alone location, unattached to any other businesses. It is stationed directly across from the Wedgewood Plaza where The Banque, a popular country-western themed nightspot, has long been a local landmark, A roadside sign catches the eye and makes it easier to spot. Parking is readily available at the side of the building after making the turnoff. The interior is attractively and artistically decorated with a feeling of homespun warmth that makes me feel right at home. The sofa in their main dining room tempts me to take a nap. Additional seating area is available in a room in the back. La Vie was formerly an independently operated pharmacy. Their friendly and outgoing owner, whose name is Laura, is a retired pharmacist who decided to transform it into the unique coffee and beverage spot it has become today. Her mother and other family members help out as well. They have also become an official partner with The Samaritan House, an organization that seeks to provide aid and comfort for victims and survivors of domestic abuse and human trafficking in Hampton Roads. They are participating in the Paint 757 Purple campaign during the month of October on behalf of their efforts. I took part in their Yelp 757 Deal during my first visit, which offered a drink of your choice and a pastry for $7.57, and then came back for two more visits before writing my review. I have enjoyed the following so far, starting with their Pastries: PUMPKIN MOCHI: Mochi is a Japanese rice cake made with mochigome, a short grain glutinous rice. Their serving came in four pieces, each of which socked me with a nicely dense texture and a rich pumpkin flavor that grew with every bite: My Rating: 5 Stars. CHOCOLATE ECLAIR PIE: I was torn between this one and their miniature Pecan Pie, which looked equally as tempting from their display case. I decided to wait and try their Pecan Pie during a future visit. I asked them to heat up my Chocolate Eclair Pie, which they did and will gladly do for any of their pastries. It melted in my mouth and hit me with a powerful explosion of flavor. My Rating: 5 Stars. Among their beverages, I have enjoyed the following: DEADLY NIGHTSHADE: This was one of their special flavors for the month of October. It consisted of Blue Pea Flower, Matcha Green Tea, Maple, and Vanilla. I chose a splash of Almond Milk to go with it. This one is available hot, cold, or blended, and I chose to have it served cold. I loved its unique look and combination of flavors. If I could tweak one small detail, I would have liked it just a tad more iced. My Rating: 4.5 Stars. THE PERFECT STORM: This one is listed on their menu of healthy Lotus Plant Based Energy Drinks, which are served iced. This particular selection provides a delicious mix of Blue Raspberry, Coconut, and Green Apple, topped with a Blue Cold Foam. Its flavors came through beautifully. My Rating: 5 Stars. UBE LAVENDER LOTUS ENERGY DRINK: This is a new selection from their Lotus Plant Based Energy Drinks, one that had not yet appeared on their menu board when it was ordered. It consisted of Lavender, Ube, and Sparkling Water for a refreshing and delicious combination of flavors that dazzled my senses. My Rating: 5 Stars. THE FRANKENSTEIN: This is another new addition, one that was offered on behalf of their Paint 757 Purple Month in October. This one is an iced Matcha Latte with an Ube Cold Foam Topping. I asked for a splash of Oat Milk to go with it. Matcha and Ube are two of my favorite flavors. Their combination, along with the Oat Milk, resulted in a heavenly taste experience. This is my favorite drink so far, and I hope this one can become a permanent addition. My Rating: 5-Plus Stars. My first three visits to date have resulted in a slam dunk 5-star rating. I am looking forward to my future visits and will be doing my best to spread the word.

La Vie Always Latte... La Vie Always a Pleasure and delight! I read a lot of great reviews, but I tell you, nothing is like a journey all your own. First, the location is great, it's at the entrance to a trailer/mobile home subdivision - the setting seems so appropriate that you can imagine this cafe to offer the wonderful escape to mobile home residents just outside of their homes. Then upon entering, you are greeted with very cozy setup - couch by a table full of magazines - the comforting message here is to stay a while. There are tables too of course. You have to come here to immerse in the hospitality and the friendliness of the owners that is so intoxicating. They would share fun facts about how this place was once a pharmacy (no wonder you see the wall cut out that you have clear view of the shelves), that their beverages are named after their brood of canine family. Speaking of love for furry friends. I asked if it was okay to bring in mine. Guy got a pup cup to go - thank you! There's also an area in the back sort of like a doggie park, so convenient! Back to what they offer: a looooong list of coffee beverages which come in hot, cold or even blended? and their Lotus drinks that have health benefits - they even have a glossary of all the roots and plant extracts that go with their healthy drinks! They offer pastries which they would warm up for you. I ordered the Smores (hot) and the lotus drink (orange passion flavor). Their 757 deal that runs throughout October gets you a specialty drink and a pastry - sweet deal! Both drinks were delicious! And oh they support local businesses - there are beautifully handmade leather bracelets (I bought 7!!) and some necklaces of crystals and stones!

Dirty Churro latte, hot. That whipped cream tho
    Kayla N.

Stepped in on a cold and rainy day and was greeted with a warm welcome from the staff and a cozy cafe! I loved the ambience and decoration of the place, so inviting and tasteful. I got a Dirty Churro latte served hot, with some whipped cream for good measure, and it was fabulous! I also got the Crumb Cake as the pastry included in Yelp's 757 deal, haven't had a chance to try it but still looks yummy and a good size serving. Wanted to give a shout out to the staff again as they were so friendly and sweet, I mentioned I had errands to run but wanted to relax in the back room for a bit, and they offered to wake me up if I happened to fall asleep, haha! The coziness of their cafe is no joke, I felt like curling up with a blanket while sipping on coffee on one of their couches lol. I'll definitely have to come back and try more of their menu, it was a treat coming in here!

The workers are the sweetest people around!! Highly recommend this coffee shop, so relaxing and peaceful. Drinks are absolutely delicious and strong! The seating area in the back made me feel like I'm in a beach house! This is going to be my new go-to spot!

This place is so welcoming and make you feel like a regular. You can tell they put a lot of effort into keeping their place inviting. Ditch the chains and come support people that actually care about you having a great experience in their shop. The homemade pasties and cookies are delicious. I don't drink the specialty drinks, just black coffee (which is great) but my wife said the lattes are delicious.

This review actually has two great businesses because I visited Klassic Doughnut's food truck too! Ok first things first. Every Wednesday through this Summer Klassic Doughnuts food stand will be available at COVA 8-11 AM. They are in my opinion the best cake doughnuts in our area. They are a major draw for COVA. I purchased a few to go. With COVA I specifically wanted to try their coffee. I was blown away upon arrival to see their outdoor space. It's huge and beautiful. On a weekday at 11 AM without school even out was busy! The counter service was helpful and friendly. I told the staff I wanted a black coffee and was directed to what beans were being offered. I opted for an Ethiopian pour over. The coffee comes in a large and priced competitive. It took a bit with being busy and a pour over, but boy was the wait worth it. Probably the best coffee I've had in any recent memory and I drink a lot of coffee. The space inside is compact, but they offer a side patio that's covered too! COVA is late to offering coffee, maybe 5 years or so. However, they are established with brewing award winning beer. I chatted with a female brewer a minute who was so sweet and invited me back for a glass. They also have a bakery case with offerings that looked good. So I need to return. So exciting to share such a gem in East Beach. Parking may be an issue, but off street neighborhood streets are available.

The decor has Polynesian touches, the drinks and food nod to Samoan flavors (like taro and Spam musubi), and you can tell it's a true family business built with a lot of pride and hard work. My friend and I first heard about this spot and literally drove about 25 minutes from Ghent Norfolk over to Bel-Aire Norfolk just to try it out, and it still remains one of our favorite coffee shops in Norfolk. Totally worth crossing town for. On my first visit, I got the Apelu Island Iced Latte, a Taro Cupcake with vanilla icing and toasted coconut, and a Spam Musubi with egg. That combo right there? Dangerous. The latte was smooth and lightly sweet with that pretty taro purple, the cupcake was super moist with the coconut giving it that little crunch on top, and the Spam Musubi with egg was the perfect salty-savory bite to go with my coffee instead of the usual basic breakfast sandwich. Second visit, I pulled back up for their Taro Pumpkin Roll Latte with oat milk (one of their fall specials), and I'm still thinking about it. It tasted like fall but with that island twist; cozy, a little earthy from the taro, and not overly sweet. Just really well-balanced and comforting. The staff has been warm and welcoming every time I've gone in; smiling, chatting with customers, and making it feel like a neighborhood spot even if you drove in from across town. It's the kind of place where you can sit, catch up with a friend, get some work done, or just enjoy your drink and snack without feeling rushed. If you're anywhere in Norfolk and haven't tried Apelu Island Cafe yet, go. From the lattes to the taro treats to the musubi, it's one of those places that makes you want to become a regular. It is in a pedestrian-friendly area, which is a plus, so it's easy to walk to. They do make a point to remind you not to park in the lot belonging to the adjacent shopping center or risk being towed. When I stopped in, it was empty except for one table. I let them know this was my first visit and the staff was happy to tell me about seasonal specials. They have a variety of teas and coffees. I do wish they had a sample of their food menu where they take orders. I didn't notice it until I picked up my drink, so I'll have to return when I have more time to peruse it. For my first visit, I wanted to try a seasonal special drink and opted for the Vietnamese Egg Coffee. It was described as an Americano style drink with egg custard foam. They offer decaf which is a plus so I selected this. It was ready in about 5 mins and was absolutely delicious. The only downside was the size. I wasn't expecting an espresso sized beverage for the price, but probably because I'm used to a Starbucks Americano which is bigger (even for a tall) and has slightly more hot water. The flavor was impressive and I much prefer the espresso Mudita uses! Overall, a great experience. I don't often venture out to OV, but I'll definitely stop back in when in the area!

I subbed handcut fries for the breakfast potatoes and while the fries tasted good... they were room temp as were my husband potatoes which were also under seasoned. I was hoping that the longer wait for food would mean it was going to come out hot. (But no luck) Overall, I'd come back. Side note: tipped the waitress a $20 on a $40 tab because my husband said "no change needed" before I could tell him I only had 3 $20 dollar bills. Instead of chasing her down I decided maybe it would earn me a kindness karma point somewhere along the line, lol.
