I was doing an event here today, and we're both tired, so after packing up the truck, instead of heading home or elsewhere for dinner, I thought I'd try this grill & bar restaurant. We just walked over to the door. All ready, I didn't like entering with a loud music, I asked to be seated where it's quieter. She said: she'll turn it down. It didn't seem like the music any quieter, so hubby asked her again, and she said: someone may have turned it back up, she would lower it again. The music did get quiet. (There were small children at the time). We ordered from extensive menu. I chose the Empanada de Camaron: 4 fried turnover Empanada stuffed with cheese, shrimp, and vegetable sofrito (mixed with aromatic ingredients then sautéed), accompanied with Mexican sauce. Hubby picked the Chile Relleno: Poblano chili pepper, stuffed with mixed cheese and potato, battered in whipped egg then deep-fried to a golden brown and bathed in delicious tomato sauce. Both were delicious! The relleno was served with rice pilaf with mixed vegetable, he said he didn't care too much for that. I only ate only one of my empanada, because I was filling up with my chips & enjoying my salsa, but I wasn't really hungry. I took the rest home, for later. I love the sauce! I told Adriana, and she said: Oh! You didn't want that? I tried to tell her: I'd like it to go. (I have a feeling we're having problem communicating, she's very nice, though). The service: We were talked to by 4-5 different servers who asked us how we were doing. One: I asked if I could have mild salsa sauce, and she said: No, those were the choices they all have. A few minutes later, I asked a bus boy, but he asked someone else (who spoke English), and he - Alexander - he delivered a warm salsa to our table. He came back again, to ask how it was. The 5th girl who showed up at our table, mentioned to her about our anniversary. Towards the end, we did get a complimentary flan (thank you), but both of our water glass were empty, and we didn't get a refill, we're done. Mostly a good experience with a few exceptions. For starters, the music was too to understand the waitress. I'll get to the other exceptions later. The insider is large, and has an industrial vibe. It's open and airy, though, and has an interesting neon mural. They brought our chips and salsa first. They were standard, bagged chips with both Red and green salsas. The green is better, but you can't actually dip the chip into the little metal cups because they're too small. I got coffee. The creamers were French Vanille Coffee Mate. Ew. Not good. My wife ordered a margarita, which looked nice, but it tasted like it was made with a mix instead of lime and Cointreau. We split Canaries a la Diabla, which is a spicy shrimp dish with rice. The rice was a bit overcooked, but maybe that's the way it's done. The shrimp was milder than I was expecting, but it was flavorful (almost a mole) and not too rich. Touched all the bases. My complaint was that the shells were still on. We had a lot of trouble eating them. The waitress said afterwards that we could have ordered them shell off, but she should have given us that option when we ordered. It came with a small salad with vinaigrette, pineapple and beet on lettuce. It was nice. The experience was a near miss, but we'll try it again. read more

Don't sleep on this place, the food is fantastic, the service is friendly and the restaurant is beautiful! We got the Torre de Mariscos which is a tower of ceviche on a bed of cucumber salad, oranges and onions. It is so fresh and filling and with the side of tostadas as the perfect vessel to scoop it up. I had to take so much leftover home because it's a sizable portion. We also got the octopus in the Diabla sauce. This portion was also large. We loved the fresh salad with the pineapples and sweet dressing. Garlic bread was on point. The sauce was just sweeter than we expected. This place is a gem. read more

This place is trying to upscale but the service and food are subpar. It's also very expensive a kids quesadilla with meat is $19! Or $12 for two tortillas and cheese and the adult menu prices only get crazier! We only drank water and my bill was over $50 for just me and a kid. The service is also terrible - after we got our food no one checked in on us and then I had to flag them down for a check just to get out of there. Maybe on a nice day out on the patio and margarita would be nice! But they need dramatically improve service and adjust those prices for us to come back. Tacos Gobernador. Filled with shrimp, cheese, bell peppers and onions. Slap it with some guacamole a squeeze of lime, and dip it in the tangy green sauce. Comes with a side of rice and salad. Say yes. Camarones A la Diabla. We ordered it spicy, but it was noT spicy at all. If you're looking for the spice that makes your tongue feel on fire, you won't find it with this dish. The garlic bread though! Oh man. Best garlic best. Ever. Empanadas. Completely filled with shrimp and cheese. Fried and crispy. So ooey gooey. Dip it in the tangy sauce. You might get an extra dimple where it doesnt belong, but it might be worth it. Get it. Guava Pinacolada. It was not Guava pink like the menu picture, as it came white as snow, and had like 1 tsp of alcohol maybe, but it was tasty. My Mom has been checking this place out for a while now. She knew all about the menu. The Parking situation on the street is Auful At Best. However, there is a small parking lot opposite the restaurant in the same complex. That's where we parked. It was a little difficult finding the restaurant for all the construction going on in the area. But we did find it. We came on a Sunday afternoon and before the lunch crowd. We were seated next to the window to enjoy the views. The entire staff was nice. The inside of the restaurant was very modern with an old school vibe. The menu looked amazing but I went with the lunch special. Pozole Rojo. A Pork and Hominy Soup. It was full of chunks of juicy tender pork and hominy. I would have been happy with just the Broth. Every bite was an explosion of flavor. I completely forgot to get a picture of the other dishes. Because as soon as a plate was set down, it got demolished. We were hungry but the food looked so good it made us more hungry. I ate till I was full and tried to eat all of soup but still needed a togo box. La Villa is a little spendy but well worth the cost. You should at least go one time just to taste the food. We can't wait to go back. read more

I saw an ad for this restaurant on my Facebook wall and they did such a great job with photos of their fancy cocktails - I knew I had to get some friends together to try it out. What I did not know was that the area used to be "scary" but it's being gentrified and is nice now. The building that La Villa is in is brand new and posh. I loved the red carpet ropes at the entrance. I also was very impressed with the gas fireplace and tile work. It's a very nice place! They bring you chips and 2 kinds of salsa as well and individual corn tortilla's with beans. That was a nice touch and we gobbled that all down. I wasn't super hungry so I ordered 2 tacos. They only had one flavor; carne asada. That was okay...but they really need to put a star next to the "freshly made sauce" because it was so hot, my face burned red and my mouth was on fire! It tasted like it had ghost peppers in it. I can smother my food in wasabi & Sriacha so when I say it's hot, I mean it! I ruined one taco, pouring the sauce all over it, thinking it could not possibly be hotter than Taco Bell Fire sauce because there was no warning. The server ended up giving me some kind of thick cream (in lieu of sour cream, which they don't have) to cool my mouth down. Besides that, they were tasty. I also ordered the Cantarito - a paloma tequila based drink that comes in a traditional clay cup. The presentation in a clay mug with a Tamarind spicy candy straw stick & tropical flower was lovely and it was very good. It had better be for $13. One friend ordered the shrimp and was brought a whole octopus. They had t o take that back and re-do her meal. The shrimp come with the head and tentacles still attached - which I could not have eaten but my friend had no issue with that. She just thought it tasted bland. Two friends got the enchilada and the Carne Asada and the both thought their meals were good. My friend with the fajita was not happy about getting corn tortilla's (they don't have flour) but the rest of him think he's crazy because we all prefer corn tortilla's. On fight nights they play UFC fights in the bar so we will definitely come back to watch that and have more food (minus the freshly made sauce") and drinks. read more

Firstly I am so surprised to see that La Villa only has 3.5 stars! This place was awesome! The menu is so diverse and unique and the food is absolutely nom-worthy! My husband and I had two separate entrees and two Octopus and I the Empanadas de Camaron. Both were very satisfying and great portions for a place like this. This new joint in the heart of Rockwood is pretty good. Went with the fam recently and we all enjoyed it. I had some Pulpo Zarandeado (grilled octopus) it loved it. You may say, YOU HAD WHATTT?. Have to try it. If you're not into those seafood deliciousness, there are more options. Also had some some Mojito's (regular one and Blueberry) If you want a new local place to go and hangout it, this is a good place! PS. The drinks were amazing I had the spicy mango margarita. Appetizers were great , but my entrée was amazing it was a platter with five different shrimps ,octopus and salmon with salad and bread. They have been open for 4 months. The place is on the hip side without the being too stuffy. The decoration decoration inside was done very tastefully. Everyone we dealt with friendly and helpful. Parking was easy. They even gave us a complimentary thing they are trying out which was tasty. The music is pleasant, but on the loud side. They also have a full bar, but with limited draft beer selection. The best thing about this place is that it's not super far from where we live. read more

I went for the first time yesterday and had a great lunch. The excellent menu was well illustrated, and that made choosing an entre much easier with less guessing. The Salsa was some of the best I've had. They bring 2 different types with chips to each table. I ordered the fresh Guac and was not disappointed. For my entre, I chose the: BIRRIA DE CHIVO a "recipe of Jalisco Mexico, goatmeat slowly cooked with aromatic spices, potatoes, topped w eggs and accompanied with handmade tortillas." It was wonderful! I'll be going back soon. read more

Although we came in fairly late (after 10pm) the staff were upbeat, friendly, and did everything they could to accommodate our large group of 10. What's with the bad reviews?? My partner and I went during opening weekend and had a good experience. Nice to have another restaurant open until 11pm in rockwood/gresham. The ingredients were very fresh and the servers were super friendly. Loved how the servers are locals and from the community. Great vibes and super fun place. 1) Sopitos - top heavy but yummy. You can ask for extra crispy if you prefer it that way 2) Tacos de asada- asada pretty dry but great tortilla 3) Tostada de ceviche- super POWERFUL flavor, super fresh and delicious, but of course it doesn't keep after a few minutes so try to eat it right away or else the tostada will get soggy 4) Oysters- soo fresh and delicious I personally prefer lime over lemon, so i'm glad they provided plenty of limes, and the hot sauce was great 5) Cheesecake - it was okay Their hot sauces are not that spicy, we actually kept asking for hotter sauce, and they gave us the hottest they had, but all their sauces are very moderate in heat and flavor. And in my opinion, I have an average heat tolerance. Overall, this was good, and theyre open until 11 so it's a great spot for late night food and drinks read more

We had a good first experience at La Villa. I'm really glad they opened in Gresham, and hope for their success in the new Rockwood development. The restaurant itself is a relatively higher-end restaurant, compared to other Mexican restaurants in the area. It has a clean and modern decor, and the gas fireplace and large display are inviting. The service was great. I was a bit disappointed that the bartender wasn't wearing a mask (in October 2021, when our mask mandate was still in place), though most staff were masked, and everyone was friendly and service was strong. Our drinks were good, though varied. I'd like to experiment with a few different cocktails. They were presented well, and I think that this place will likely succeed or fail based on how they iterate there. The drink prices were reasonable for a restaurant of their type (the other relatively high end Mexican restaurant in town, Margarita Factory, has very expensive cocktails which is why I mention this). The food was varied. I went because I wanted to try the oysters -- I saw they had advertised them, and I love a good oyster. I ordered 6 of them. I'm sure some people may enjoy them, though they were a bit large for me. I'm hoping that they may source some smaller varieties that are easier to eat in the future. The flavor was good though. I didn't order any other seafood, though the menu is at-least 50% seafood. My wife had a Mole Chicken Enchilada. I'd say it was good, but not great. The mole had nice rich flavor, though the rice and beans needed a bit more flavor. I also had a fish taco and an asada taco. The fish taco was great. It was like a street taco, but a bit larger. And the price was really competitive -- only $3.50. Most of the entrees are in the $16-$20 range, though if you want to manage your cost I recommend steering towards those tacos. We will be back, and I'm hoping that they continue iterating over time. I'm really rooting for them. read more
