Ladera Cleaners is expensive, has slow turnaround times, and poor customer service. I brought in a dress that was in perfect condition, only to have it returned with noticeable damage that was definitely not there when I dropped it off. What makes this even worse is the complete lack of accountability. When I pointed out the issue, the staff was dismissive and refused to take any responsibility for the damage. Instead of offering a solution or even a sincere apology, they directed the blame at me, saying that the damage occurred after pressing and must have been my fault. (For what it's worth, I have since had the designer look at the dress, and they clearly determined that the "type of fraying observed is consistent with fiber stress or agitation affecting the integrity of the fabric during the cleaning process"). A dry cleaner is trusted to handle items with care, and this business failed on both the technical and customer service fronts. I will not be returning, and I strongly recommend taking your clothes elsewhere if you value your wardrobe. read more

Lost a very expensive white mens shirt, instead they substituted it with some dumpy shirt. They insisted that the was my shirt, bad attitude. They still insist that that old shirt was the one I bought in to be cleaned. I know the items I bring in, the label on the shirt they traded my shirt was the wrong size and from a label I never heard from. The team at Ladera Cleaners has done it again! I always bring our household's cleaning and repairs here. Most recently, they did a wonderful repair to my beloved old bomber jacket. The repair was not simple; because the lining was shredding and impossible to zip, they had to deconstruct part of the jacket. Ladera Cleaners did a great job letting me know ahead of time what I could expect, both in terms of price, and that the repair would unavoidably be somewhat visible. I consented. I got it back this week and I'm so impressed with the result. They found a sympathetically striped fabric and lined up the pattern. It shows creativity and attention to detail. As they projected, the mend is visible, but if anything, it adds to the beauty and unique style of the garment. It's very true to the artistic intent of the original designer. This place should be ashamed of itself for offering the poor service as demonstrated by all the negative reviews. I have periodically brought my clothes in out of convenience but they are just awful. At one point, I suspected that they had a piece of clothing of mine and they got very argumentative with me. Turns out she was correct but the attitude just stinks in a very big way. These cleaners need to be more transparent and upfront with hidden costs in their pricing. Typically to hem a dress here is $25. They charged me $54. They did not tell me upfront they were going to charge $30 more because the dress had a slightly wider hem. When I mentioned this, the man working there (I believe he's an owner) didn't even care. He offered an offensive tiny discount after I explained how unethical this was. Honestly, I don't know what's worse: the lack of communication on the pricing and how they are ripping off customers with hidden costs, OR how arrogant, uninterested and defiant this man was about the situation overall. read more

I have used Ladera Cleaners for more than 10 years. I do not use a cleaner every week, I go when I have a challenge, alteration or for a sewing project ( such as making curtains, cutting down expensive duvets.) Their daughter has attended design school in New York. She has gone out of her way to figure out different ways to update outfits . I get numerous compliments on those outfits. I believe the comments about " coldness and lack of empathy " are coming in part from a difference in culture. However, getting upset with the customer is never ok. I just have not experienced or seen that behavior. They have warned me when they think a treatment will damage fabric, pinned my clothes so we can agree on alteration. I am glad The cleaners are in my neighborhood. I am more thankful for the talented seamstresses that have saved my sweaters, updated my outfits and fitting my clothes with my changing size. They did an excellent job on the alteration, taking a jumpsuit and turning it into just a pair of pants. However, I specifically stated I had not bought the shoes yet so I did not want to have it hemmed at this time, I would come back. She pinned the pants, I assumed, so I could view how the pants would look with the alterations (I had the jumpsuit on). Picked up a week later and pants were hemmed, which would have been fine even though I stated do not hem, if the length was good, but it was not - way too long. My charges included the alteration plus hemming. They said I still had to pay for hemming again if I got the pants hemmed to the correct length once I had the shoes. Finally said they would charge half the usual cost for hemming which was still too much, particularly since it was their error. read more

Rip off!!! Be forewarned, you may have to give up your first born to afford any alternations here. I had two items altered- a dress taken in on the side and a pair of pants taken in in the waist and seat area. The total came to $80!!!! Both are simple alterations that I've had done plenty of times before at other stores for way way less. Absolutely ridiculous. The workmanship was fine, but not for that price. There are plenty of other places that provide the same level of service for a lot less. We've been regular customers of Ladera Cleaners for over 20 years, for all of our dry cleaning and dress shirt laundry. We started using them because the location was convenient. We stayed with them because the service was consistently good. When we use local or hotel cleaning services while traveling, we are reminded of how bad other cleaning services can be. A few times, we thought Ladera Cleaners had lost items but later we found the items at home, misplaced by us. Once in that whole 20+ years, Ladera Cleaners gave us someone else's item. A few minutes after the other party reported the switch to Claire and Claire reported it to us, Claire drove ten minutes to our house and swapped the items. No business is perfect but we are very satisfied with Ladera Cleaners. read more

This is next door to a grocery store that charges $4 for a packet of Ramen. They wanted to charge me $40 to hem a pair of pants. They were also extremely uppity and rude. For dry cleaning, they do a fine job. Albeit it's pricey. The reason for the poor review however is because they completely screwed up hemming my jeans. I had asked for 3.5 CENTIMETERS taken off (approximately 1.37795 inches). Instead, they took off 3.5 INCHES. I had specifically asked for that length so that I could wear them with a pair of heels. So now I've spent $200 on a pair of brand new jeans that can only be worn with 1" kitten heels. Super unimpressed. read more

Whoa. Avoid this place. I've brought clothing in several times for basic dry cleaning and it was fine. Then I brought in a new dress (worn once) with a light soap stain that I pointed out and they marked. When I got the dress back the soap stain was still there AND the fabric near the stain was damaged, making the stain more apparent. They did offer to try again USING THE SAME METHODS, which they concurred would probably damage the dress even more. The refused to give me my $15 cleaning fee back. They said they were charging me to "try" to clean my clothing. They weren't even apologetic. This is not a business I'm ever returning to. read more

When I lived in the Bay Area I stumbled upon this gem of a cleaners through a friend's recommendation for their skilled alterations. For over a decade they cleaned and altered my family's clothes without issue. My husband had ripped a hole in his custom wool suit pants from HK while getting out of a cab. The reweaving spot is now barely noticeable! I also had a dress taken in and unlike the other reviewer I found the $50 charge completely reasonable. Not only did it have a built-in lining, a sequined design to adjust, but also a side zipper that had to be moved. I was really nervous about having this done but Clara did a BEAUTIFUL job and I'm very pleased with the results! It's hard to find businesses where the owners are so hands-on these days, and it truly shows in the service that Ladera Cleaners provides. I still ship difficult alteration jobs to them from time to time because I don't want to risk it! A word of advice to that other reviewer with 1 star. No cleaners is perfect, but Ladera Cleaners is the best one in the area. I have used several different cleaners in the past, and Ladera is the only one that sends my clothes back the way I expect them to be. We have been sending our clothes, sheets, and alterations to Ladera for many years now, and it is the only cleaners that I feel I can trust not to stretch out my cashmeres or crisp my silks. Service is dreadful. They charge a fortune but the cleaning is average. They routinely lose clothing and you have to force them to look for it. They have marked my shirts with the wrong name and then argued with me about whether it was my shirt. They have sent me home with shirts that weren't mine. On one occasion they called and asked if they had given me a shirt that wasn't mine and then insisted I drop everything to return it right then (they apparently had another angry customer). When I told them they would have to wait they finally sent someone to pick it up. I have yet to receive one apology for any of their mistakes and every time I go in there they treat me like they are doing me a favor. Customer service is dreadful. I just picked up $120.00 of cleaning which is a typical month. I needed some of the thin plastic bags to wrap clothes for travel. They charged me .20cents per bag. I bought a dress online and noticed that when I got it, everything fit perfectly except the cap sleeves don't allow me to raise my arms above my head. Since I'm wearing this dress in a wedding I thought I'd take it to get it altered with possibly a little elastic at the seam of the sleeve so that I could raise my arms without ruining the style of the dress. I brought it in a week and a half before the wedding and explained this to the lady at the counter and she told me to come back the next day to talk to the alterations lady at about 10am on a Wednesday...I have a job...so very nicely they called her and cleared it with her so that I could come in and talk to her in the afternoon the next day. So I come in and explain the issue to her (I thought thoroughly) and she insists that by adding 2 inches of fabric under my arms it will work, I kept expressing that it was just the sleeve that was the problem but she kept insisting it would work. Unfortunately I trusted her and I came back the next week and even as I'm trying it on I can tell that the minimal alteration has done absolutely nothing to the sleeves. She comes in and asks what I think and I honestly said that it didn't fix the problem at all. She sounded surprised and explained again what she had done and I said that was never the problem, the problem was the sleeve and I showed her how my arms couldn't raise at all for about the tenth time. She finally realized what I had needed and I said it was too late now as the wedding is in two days and all she says is, "It looks good now." I then go to pay and the man at the counter asks if everything is okay and I said it was "fine" even though it obviously wasn't but there was nothing I could do about it then. I should have said no, because then they charged me $50 for 2 inches of fabric that did absolutely nothing! Very disappointed and I'm having to alter the dress myself now. read more
