I always get the kimchi cucumber salad. It doesn't sound like much but the pickled ginger adds the right amount of sweet and the dressing is delicious. I tried the garlicky cesar over red quinoa. it was a large portion and could easily be two meals. I do however wish there was a bit more of the other stuff. the chickpeas, cucumbers, tomatoes, etc. and the tofu I paid extra for. i felt it was heavy on the quinoa and lettuce which is a shame. it was still delicious though, and I'll probably go again and try another menu item. read more

I was introduced to Lady and the Shallot by a co-worker who eats a plant-based diet. Lady and the Shallot is located inside the Trenton Farmers Market. It is a vegan/plant-based food stall. My co-worker bragged on their chili so we went to get some. Unfortunately, they didn't have enough chili that day for our orders. We wanted 3, but they only had 1. I decided to get an order of their spuds chipotle style. They were good and filling. I will definitely return to try other items, including their tacos and the chili. The food was really bad. We have been trying to come to this restaurant for 2 months now. We finally get there. What a disappointment. We had a "bowl" which was some greens thrown on a plate with some chickpeas and guacamole on top. I am not sure why they called this plate a bowl. So sloppy and no care. Then we got the spuds plate with cauliflower. Cold and potatoes were stale. The food was served to us in 1 minute. Which means everything is just sitting there and they serve it to you cafeteria style. Very poor experience. I am sorry to write a bad review because we were really looking forward to a new vegan place. The vegan sandwich place in the Trenton farmers market ( about 20 feet away ) is wayyyyy better. read more

Fran and Kate are doing the Lord's work, serving food that's DELICIOUS, yet good for you (how?!) and infusing positive vibes into the market. I look forward to visiting Lady and the Shallot every single week. During Covid, my weekly trip to visit the LatS ladies kept me sane, well-nourished, and connected to an incredible community that champions small family businesses, incredibly delicious/allergy-friendly food, and animal/human rights. I am not a vegan, but every time I eat at Lady and the Shallot, I want to be. Fran and Kate (the owners) have curated a menu that stumps me with what to order every week because everything is so delicious. I typically go with the taco flight because I get a little taste of 4 of their best flavors - that's truly the secret sauce of LatS (pun intended) - Kate and Fran have put so much thought and care into curating a menu exploding with flavor. I tell them every week - I can't wait for their sauces to go national so I can buy them in bulk at Costco! Honorable mention to the insanely delicious chili oil that you can add to any dish for an extra zing. Another reason to visit every week - specials and baked goods! As if ordering weren't tough enough from the main menu, LatS often has seasonally fresh and flavorful specials that make you want to add an extra side dish to your meal. Ashley's baked goods are out of this world and are truly the only gluten free/dairy treats I can have that taste insanely delicious and don't upset my tummy. But what makes Lady and the Shallot most special is the warm atmosphere and 1000/10 customer service. Fran and Kate go above and beyond to make every customer feel welcome and happy - even the ones that are not so nice to them. By all indications, I should not love this place as much as I do. I grew up in an Italian Jersey suburb eating the best carbs on the planet. Our Jewish holidays featured warm matzoh ball soup and mouth-watering brisket. But here I am, telling you about some of the best food I've ever eaten in my entire life from a vegan, gluten-free restaurant. You are going to have an incredible experience when you grab a bite from Lady and the Shallot. The food is fresh, filling and fantastic. Their variety makes the menu an absolute adventure and I cannot recommend their specials enough. And the delicious food is paired with the owners, Fran and Kate showering you with love and joy (think the opposite of a Dick's Last Resort. They will make you smile, it's their superpower). What to order: if you're new to vegan faire, tell the ladies what you like or typically eat, or what normally makes you feel satisfied. They know the food and the science in and out. Their special is usually a take on comfort/hearty food, and there's lots of ways to make you feel full without feeling bloated. If you're not new to vegan food, the rainbow bowl is delicious and my wife is particular to their turmeric tofu bowl, which pops with flavor and every forkful is a delight. Their juices are always creative and enjoyable, but lately I go for one of the waters. And I always bring one of Ashley's unbelievable snacks back home for later. I have not and will almost definitely not convert to being a vegan. If you still have a hankering for meat (sorry ladies), go to Hambone Opera 40 feet away. BUT Lady and the Shallot is just the best. Updated 7/15/23 I normally get takeout, but today I decided to eat there at one of their tables. It was a very hot day and pretty busy, but received great friendly service as always! Today, I tried the street corn for the first time from here, and it was really tasty. I just realized from the street corn picture, I forgot to use the lime. I love lime so next time I'll use it haha. I also had the rainbow tacos(regular not spicy), and enjoyed them as usual! I'm looking forward to trying more food, I still haven't tried the truffle spuds. Then of course there is always my go to choice, the rainbow tacos or nachos. Lady and the Shallot is an excellent vegan restaurant in the heart of the Trenton Farmers Market. It is owned and operated by Francesca and Kate, who are married and totally dedicated to providing their customers with delicious creative meals out of their small open kitchen. They work hard, and always seem to have a light, friendly spirit, with time to engage with everyone, and even pose for a photograph I asked to take for this review. I ordered the Brekkie Box, a breakfast oriented cardboard basket of tofu scramble, air roasted potato, black beans, fresh greens, scoop of smashed avocado and sriracha aioli drizzled over it all. The crew got very active as I waited and watched the honed teamwork kick in to keep customers happy as each order was made from scratch. It was delicious. No one will mistake scrambled tofu for eggs, but the texture was almost right and eaten in the mix of all the ingredients the dish was enjoyable, interesting and quite tasty. Those roasted taters were amazing. They would be a strong component to any breakfast. I left sated and pleasantly surprised by the quality and overall experience that is Lady and the Shallot. Hubby and I decided to go to Lady and the Shallot after we concluded our trip at Grounds for Sculpture. We were looking forward to this place because they are a plant-based eatery. We decided on two different types of avocado toast. One being California at $6.95 and the other is the curry avocado toast which is $7.95. We tried to see pictures of what it would look like prior but we couldn't find any on Yelp. No biggie. When we received our avocado toast, it was served on a round flat bread. We were both surprised because we were expecting toast. Their "toast" would have been better had it been toasted more. Both were tasty but the winner for us was the curry avocado toast. It had more ingredients thus making it more complex whereas the California Avocado toast was creamier. If you'd like water, it's reserved in a huge beverage dispenser with a spigot. It has bit pieces of oranges in it. They serve it in a 16 oz plastic cup with a plastic straw and charge $2.25, just to let you know. We did get refills. You can sit either at the counter (4 stools only) and chat with the two owners, Francesca and Kate or procure a table. They only have four tables. Two chairs per table. The owners pride their establishment to be a nut free and gluten free. They purchase their produce from Pineland farm, Cedarville farm, and Russo's farm. They're menu is vegan so if you are a hardcore vegan or are trying to come over to the vegan happy place, stop by! You won't be disappointed. My favorite dish is The Caprese. This sandwich is TDF (To Dive For lol). It has tomatoes, avocados, balsamic, crisp greens, basil and their signature lemon aioli sauce on a toasted ciabatta bread. It's soooo good!!! I get it once a week. They also have water infused drinks and fresh raw juices to select from. Now, its been awhile since I ate Vegan, but one of my friends suggested this place bc she wanted to try it and Hey I'm up for anything. We grabbed a quick snack. The 2 lovely awesome ladies that run this place are amazing!! Love Francesca!!! Well we ordered a California flat bread and the street spuds, both equally delicious and fresh. I could've eaten a huge bowl of those spiced chick peas, they were addictive. I was sad when they were all gone. lol. Wish their was more in the container of spuds. I will definitely go back to eat their as I want to try more stuff on their menu. They do have flavored water and tea on the counter. They are a little on pricey side but fresh local produce is all they use. I also enjoyed the aioli that was on the spuds. They were out of the chili which I really wanted to try but hey next time. Not only is their menu incredible, not only is their food DELICIOUS, but they are genuinely kind wonderful smart beautiful friendly kind individuals. I came here one day when my husband and I took our son to the farmers market because of the amazing market manager. We have been coming to this market for years and have seen a lot of changes. Some good, some bad. These ladies are amazing! We arrived early and the market food wasn't open yet but that didn't seem to matter to our one year old who has twelve teeth and likes to eat! They welcomed us with open arms, a generous scoop of vegan roasted potatoes, garlic aioli and some yummy avocado. They saved the day honestly. And beyond that - the food is DELICIOUS!!!! First of all, how amazing are these ladies?! Just great, positive energy at all times. They put the love into the food. Second, the food is always delicious and wholesome. The buffalo tofu over potatoes is a great balance of spice, salt, texture from a little bit of celery, and then the heartiness of the potatoes. The avocado added a nice creamy texture as well. I also like that the tofu is mostly left in tact so it feels almost like you're eating eggs. Just delicious every time! I've also had the Rainbow on flatbread and The Curry which are good too, but buffalo is my favorite. read more

So delicious! I was in Princeton with friends for the weekend and decided to skip New Hope vegan eating to try this spot. I am thrilled we did. I wanted to give this place 5 stars - I love the reasonably priced plant based options and the entire menu looks amazing but both items I tried were just ok. The rainbow tacos were good and plentiful, although really light on the avocado and I doubt either the corn or chick peas were fresh roasted as described. The sauce was really tasty, I just wish there had been more. The chocolate pizza was a thumbs down. Way too much mouse and it was slightly bitter. The fruit today was peaches and there was a sprinkling, however I did not get the powdered sugar as stated on the menu. Not so disappointing that I won't give it another try - the women there were lovely and the food good enough - but I did wish for just a little more WOW. read more

First time ordering, and was so pleased to see they delivered to Ewing (via a delivery app). First off, I have a severe egg allergy and I wasn't immediately sure if they were completely vegan. It does say "plant based," but I've been burned before, and most of the things I was ordering had "aioli" on them. So I thank them for putting up with my neurosis as I wrote "anaphylactic egg allergy" under every item I ordered. They wrote a note to let me know that they are 100% vegan, plus gluten and nut free as well, and take allergies very seriously. This is much appreciated, and is not as common as you might think. So thanks! I ordered the street spuds, chili spuds, spicy chipotle tacos, tofu scramble flatbread, a ginger, strawberry, and cucumber infused water, as well as a mint & blueberry infused jasmine green tea. The chili spuds were missing from my order--too bad because I was looking forward to trying the chili, but not a big deal. I was refunded and had an abundance of other food! Of the drinks, I would recommend the infused water. I can taste each of the flavors, and it's super refreshing on a warm, humid day. The jasmine green tea wasn't steeped for long enough, I think. I can taste the mint and an aftertaste of blueberry, but not the tea. As a tea lover, I want to taste the tea! The food was all wonderful. The delivery was fast and the food was still warm when it arrived. Everything had bright, robust flavors for a healthy, filling, delicious meal that left me feeling good after eating it. The best part is that though the ingredients are simple, it's flavored in such a way that I don't think I could recreate it at home and have it taste the same. I wish they would bottle and sell the lemon caper aioli on the street spuds. I couldn't get enough of that sauce and got a separate spoon just to make sure none went to waste. The sauce on the tacos is on point! It reminds me of a crema sauce I used to get from my favorite taco place in Los Angeles. The tacos had a crunchy slaw on them that I couldn't get enough of. The only thing I would change is the size of the tomatoes. They are sliced into wedges and they fall out of the tacos and make a mess, so I would just suggest cubing them or at least making smaller pieces. The flatbread had a similar sauce to the tacos, plus fresh greens, guac, black beans, and tofu. I love the combination of textures. The bread was a little dry for my tastes, but dipped in the chipotle sauce and it's perfect. I will definitely be ordering from here again and can't wait til it's safe to visit in person! read more
