This small little place is cute and has an interesting decor. I enjoyed being able to play with toys while waiting for our food. Where else can a couple in their 40s & 50s play with toys at the counter? Lol As far as the food: Not impressed. Those were my husbands words exactly. We were excited to try this place because of the great reviews. We must have landed here on an "off day" of some sort. The grilled cheese was very strange with an odd taste I can't identify. The soup my husband ordered also had the same strange taste. There was a queso we decided to try that seriously was more like watered down cheese whizz. When i asked what the odd taste was in both the grilled cheese & soup, the young girl (early 20s) seriously rolled her eyes and laughed before walking to the other end of the counter. I'm still not sure what I said to result in that reaction... Even the couple seated next to us made a comment about her being rude for no reason. I wanted to be able to give this place a great review, but I just can't. I doubt we would ever return with so many other great options now available in the New Albany area. What a unique and fun diner!! If you're into ScFi it's worth a visit just to take in the decorations. They have gone all out from the outside in. It's teeney tiny (maybe 10 stools around the counter) but fun! It's also not your typical diner. The menu is as unique as the decor. We started with the soup of the day. A cold, blueberry, plum with a yogurt base topped with mint. It was beautiful to look at and quite tasty. He had the smoked Gouda on sourdough toast with a cold Mediterranean lentil side. Both were really good. I had the LT sandwich. It was loose crumpled maple ground beef with queso, chipotle cream sauce, applewood bacon all topped with potato chips on a huge hoagie bun. It's huge and definitely not a sandwich you pick up. The owner and server were very friendly as well. All in all, it was a good experience. read more

I dined here on 4/27/17. You know the place must be good if I'm reviewing it the same day!! I ordered the sandwich special, Shrimp Po'Boy, and one of the soups: Lamb, white bean, tomato and mint soup. Both items were amazing!! The shrimp Po'Boy was huge!! I had to take the top bun off and tackle it with a fork and knife ( I'm trying to keep my carbs down, so it worked out for me). The sauce on the sandwich was very tasty and the shrimp fried perfectly. The soup was a beautiful medley of yum! A good balance of meat, beans, tomatoes and herbs. I do have to take a moment and comment on the decor- NERD HEAVEN. I was in love with the "Sci-Fi" theme of this place. All major franchises were represented well and displayed neatly and with pride. Word of warning, THIS PLACE IS SMALL. I love that about this place. The chairs were stools around a long counter with a max seating of about 10 people elbow to elbow. I really, really wanted to give this place 5-stars. It's rare you find a place that has 25 review and still a 5-star rating. Usually those places are at the top of my list and my "go to" joints. The environment was awesome. You can totally geek out and play with the toys. The staff was great and very friendly. The food, well... it was different. I had the LT, which is ground beef that was simmered in maple syrup. Really wasn't too bad, just different. Pile on chips and a decent white creamy sauce and chow down. My daughter had grilled cheese. Not the special grilled cheese, just basic grilled cheese. It had a weird flavor. She didn't like it. I took a star away because it's hard to mess up grilled cheese. Also had the queso and chips. It was more like "cheese water" although it tasted OK. I took a star for this too. If you're into weird food and adventurous I encourage you to give this joint a shot. If it had a normal "club sandwich" for the less adventurous (like my wife and daughter) I'd probably give this place another try because of the staff and environment. Ohhh, one more thing. This place is easy to miss with all the other larger restaurants around but definitely the best in my opinion. The food is so amazing, I remember the first time I order the LT reading the menu was insane, the ingredients they said were in the sandwich sounded so random and yet when I had it the first time, it was heaven. I don't live in New Albany anymore but I always try to make a trip here whenever I can. The owner is so nice and friendly too! Not much seating inside but it's just about one block over form some nice waterfront sitting for a picnic. It's a historic itty-bitty diner; one of the few of its type left that's still being used as a restaurant. They have daily specials and do carryout. You get large portions for the price. I love the concept of this place, and wasn't at all disappointed walking in. Pigs in Space toys, a Chewbacca helmet that roars when the mouth opens, blueprints to the Enterprise, lots of Star Wars mugs, and more told me I was in an awesome space. The menu's list of "sandwiches" all named after prominent sci-fi women (Uhura, Leia, Ripley, Starbuck) similarly impressed. Honestly, they could've just served up a totally average, meh burger with fries from a bag and I'd have walked away happy. Instead, though, my food was superb. I had the Starbuck, which was listed under the sandwiches but was like a corn bread pancake covered in tasty polish sausage, a 5-bean soup, and delicious, really well-prepared collard greens. The flavors weren't ones you'd expect together, but they complemented each other well, as did the textures. Truly delicious. And only $7.95 when I bet a fancy place in Louisville could get away with charging $25 for this. Meanwhile, as the cook made the food, I chatted with her partner in crime, and a little bit with her too, about Muppets and other good things in life. Two lovely people, and the chef's partner in crime was endearingly super-proud of the chef. Just good people. I haven't written a review on Yelp in a while, but felt compelled to do so. But if it's quality food prepared with imagination, this is the restaurant for you. Short but diverse menu. My wife and I were given several small samples of soups and sandwich ingredients. After the 'tastings', my wife said "I have to have some of the Lemon Pesto Soup"! One sample was the pulled chicken simmered in blueberry molasses sauce. Tasty with a capital 'T'. To start, we split a small bowl of the Lemon Pesto Soup. My wife ordered the LEIA sandwich which is a gourmet grilled cheese. Brie and Munster with apple butter on cinnamon raisin bread. My wife said it's the best grilled cheese she's had, and believe me, she's had a lot of grilled cheese sandwiches. I had the LT Sandwich. Maple ground beef with Applewood Bacon, covered in green chili queso, topped with potato chips and Chipotle cream sauce. Wow! All sandwiches are $7.95 and soups are $3.50 for small and $5.95 for a large bowl. Coke products in cans, bottle water, coffee and tea available for $1.25. I stopped in a few weeks ago, thought it would be a typical diner but I was surprised at the quality of food and the friendliness of the owners. I had done some research before I entered this unique little spot. What drew me was the comfort of sandwiches and soups. Soon as I walked in the service was so welcoming. It's an intimate setting cause there isn't a huge area to eat. It's more of a cute bar set up. I ordered the chicken curry soup, which was a perfect portion and just the right amount of hot (temperature wise). Then came the best part... ORDER the corn pancakes with sausage and collard greens, topped with black eye beans. It's a big portion but again, comes out hot and all of the flavors go so well together. It practically melted in my mouth and I was done with it in like 20 minutes. Summer, the owner, has a gem and if your staying in Kentucky- make your way across the river for some delicious food and even better hospitality. Lots of quality ingredients goes into everything I've had there... the lima bean w/ dill soup was hearty and comforting on the cold winter day I was there. The "Ripley" sandwich was a huge serving of BBQ chicken on a large bun - and no ordinary sauce, this was blueberry/molasses sweet yummy goodness. She topped it with tart, crunchy slaw, giving the sandwich great balance on the palate. I ate every bite. I can't say enough about this sci-fi/outer space themed diner! While exploring downtown New Albany, we decided to check out this interesting place. At first, I didn't have high expectations since I thought it would be your regular run of the mill diner food, but boy was I in for a treat! Everything on the menu looked interesting and had a unique twist. We decided on the LT and the Starbuck. The menu described the LT as loose maple ground beef, chopped with applewood bacon, covered in green chile queso, finished with crispy potato chips and chipotle cream sauce, on a toasted bun-YUM! The Starbuck is Polish sausage smothered in 5-bean soup and braised collard greens, on a jalapeno cheddar corn cake-YUMMO! We also tried the soup of the day-spinach, kale, arugula and tarragon-SO GOOD. We felt like we chose the more "safe" options on the menu since it was our first go around, but can't wait to try some of the more creative/unique items next time! This place was great! I used to come here when it was Lil Chef, a very greasy spoon that was open 24hrs. I was glad to see that this spot was put to good use. It's so fun and funky looking that anyone in the family can enjoy it, the robot out front adds that flair and let's you know this places attitude. There's Sci-Fi Memorabilia everywhere and a small tv playing old classics like The Last Star Fighter. I and my mother had the LT, all sandwiches names after great Sci Fi characters. It didn't disappoint. It was cheap, delicious and a massive sandwich, I had half there and half later at home. The Grilled Cheese on Sourdough (which it kinda looks like they have most days as a special) and the Beer Cheese soup. And yes, I when I got my food, I did dip my grilled cheese sandwich in the beer cheese soup. What goes better with cheese? More Cheese obviously. The sandwich was perfectly grilled, crunchy bread and gooey cheese, and the soup was some of the best beer cheese soup I have ever had. Get the Ripley, you won't be disappointed. Soaked in a blueberry marinade of some sort. So, so good. They put it on a sesame seed bin. The bottom bun is soggy so I didn't eat that part as I have some texture issues when it comes to food, but I ate every single piece of meat and the top toasted bun. It was so good. Such a sweet chicken flavor. It kind of reminded me of shredded bbq chicken, but better. If that makes sense. I look forward to going back and having the dish again. Such a unique little place. There is a single picnic table outside too which worked perfect for our family of four. It would have been impossible to eat inside, in my opinion, because it's the two of us adults, a 7 year old, and a 6 month old. Nowhere to sit a baby.
