Over the bridge and down the street from the chaos of boilermaker stadium is an establishment called Lafayette Brewing Company. My first thought was to get out of town to escape the football madness. Unfortunately, so did everyone else! Upon arriving we were stopped in the doorway as it was standing room only. The chaos was insane and the staff were totally taxed - management should be proud of the staff working tonight as they were all busting their hump for this unruly crowd of soaked patrons. On the other hand, management should also be apologizing to their staff and patrons for being GROSSLY unprepared for the work these few staff burdened. We arrived at 6:30 and were told we'd be seated in 10 to 15 minutes. Chaos, utter chaos! We had people arriving after us that were someones friend and they were seated then the cry me a river story of "I had to sit all day in the rain and now I have to wait to pay you. I'm taking my business elsewhere." Oddly, they too were seated. We continued to patiently wait. Fourth five minutes into waiting and watching patrons come and go, I asked "when are we going to be seated?" And was told, I was just going to page you, your table is ready. We sat at a table to the left of the door that was available and unoccupied for the past forty minutes. Yes, I was annoyed. We took our seats and promptly asked to taste two beers. Our server Cody, was a stud! Running all over the place helping everyone and really stretching himself. The problem was we got our samples about 20 minutes after we ordered them. Cody took our orders and we ordered chicken nachos, chicken tilly, rib tips and pork belly. I finished the pork belly and my beer was served. Wow - crazy slow. At this point, the restaurant was slowing down and people weren't standing at the front door. Our food was just served and nearly after an hour into seating I had my first beer. Yep, you guessed I was annoyed. On the other hand, my spouses beer hadn't been served until about an hour and ten minutes after ordering. Excuses aside that's ridiculous considering we ordered promptly when seating. Now that's one aspect of the experience.... at a brewing company. Maybe they were making it? Our dinners were served cold and not exciting. The rib tips were not tips and they were burnt to jerky! The so called sauce that was to accompany was not present and the Parmesan fries lacked Parmesan! The chicken tilly was just wrong. Cornbread is not supposed to be ruined unless it is bad to begin with and this was a great example of that! Now how could anyone ruin nachos? Right. Well I don't know who is in the kitchen but they need to pull their head out. The was the most awful food I have put to my lips in a very long time. During this meal we had waited so long for my wife's beer that she was through with eating and it still wasn't served. We flagged Cody down and told him to cancel the beer order as we were through. Through with waiting and really didn't want to waste anything more. Oddly shortly after canceling the order, her beer is served! What's up with that? Again I am very disappointed with what was expected to be an easy meal. Sadly, this is not a restaurant I am going to suggest returning to until management changes how it is run more efficiently. Food needs to be served hot and drinks cold not the other way around. Tables need to be bused clean immediately and patrons sat efficiently. I went here with some friends to get a flight of beer while on a day trip to Lafayette. It's been around for a long time and was pretty busy for 2:00 on a Saturday afternoon. We were able to get a table in the bar and were quickly approached by our server to get us some waters and take our order. He was super helpful as we tried to determine which beers to order. Our beers took a little bit of time to come out, however since we ordered 4 flights of beers thats understandable. The beers though, were horrible! I was so disappointed. I really enjoy beer, and two of them were undrinkable. I ordered a pint of one of the two that I could drink. I did tell our server how much I hated one, and he was so nice and brought me a small taste of another to try. I didn't really like that one either, but it was still very nice of him! Our spinach dip was amazing! It had a nice kick to it and was a very large appetizer. They brought us more chips because there was so much dip. This was my go-to place for when we had a large group and no reservations, but actually wanted to go out. Also, they're scotch eggs with the mustard dip are on of my favorite things and I'm so glad I got to have them again when I came back for a visit. So out of all the Main Street restaurants, this has to be one of the most casual and the easiest to get into with a large group. For me, it's kinda in a weird in-between of a large pub and a gastropub. Very much a pub in terms of ambiance and drink, but a bit more of a gastropub in terms of food. Important to note, I'm not much of a beer drinker myself, but the general consensus between the people I've gone with is that LBC has a pretty decent selection. Last time I went recently when I was visiting teachers, my dojo teacher certainly enjoyed his pint. I've frankly found it to be one of the most neutral in terms of flavors and cuisines, hence one of many reasons why it's suited for larger groups in this area. Don't have to worry so much about the friends or party members that are unused to more...ethnic food. At the same time, LBC is pretty good about spicing and flavoring their food. The chicken tippy I usually get there is a good example of this. Overall, the menu is pretty diverse, with something in the pub menu to suit nearly everyone and portion sizes that are great for heart appetites. I also really love the burgers here, but my favorite will always be the scotch eggs. XD Food, aside, another reason I've always found it to be one of the easiest to bring large groups here is because of the sheer amount of space. Even during busier nights when there's an event going on downtown, you're more likely to quickly get a space here than most other places along Main. During club events when we'll have 12 to 20 people and no reservations, we'd usually come here. It's certainly closer to campus than a lot of other places that would be able to seat us quickly (usually in Tippecanoe). Additionally, they have the tables for it. In a lot of places, larger groups have to be divided up, but they've actually been able to put us all together once or twice here. I've actually never been quite clear on the kind of crowd that really tends to linger here. You have the old guard, a number of truckers, and a good smattering of hipsters and theater goers (what with Lafayette theater being a door down). It's not quite as popular with a lot of the college party crowd as it lacks harder liquors, but I've known a couple of Breakfast Club gatherings to stop by here after they've finished and have been told the food is great for recovery. For drivers, the good thing is that LBC is out of the way of a lot of the main traffic and parking restrictions you'll find down Main Street, closer to the river. However there really isn't any public parking lots in the immediate area and it does get a bit busy during lunch and rush hour. So during those busier hours, what my friend (who drove us there) usually does is park along Ferry Street near Duncan Hall and cut across to Main Street, via Duncan's parking lot and its adjacent alleyway. From there, Lafayette Brewing Co. will be a few doors to your right. All in all, this is definitely one of the places I'm happy I revisited. It's a casual, relaxing spot to drink and eat and catch up with people. Not a bad place to stop by at all. When I first walked in the staff were very polite and guided me to a table with my family. They followed all the health precautions to take during this pandemic very well. The food came in at an average time and I was delighted at the quality of the entree I had. This business is very generous with their kids eat free on Sunday policy's well. Big downtown chill spot with vintage atmosphere and emphasis on the brews - offers a large restaurant, bar, and upstairs group room for all the needs. I'm not much for the fermented field beverages but based upon my friends reactions this wins well for trying new brews and sipping down a cold one along with a good plate of food. I had the fish and chips, tasty but no 9 Irish. Our waiter was attentive and relaxed. but I wish for a more engaging menu to better stand out this place from all of the other amazing options downtown offers. Verdict: Ok. Definitely not the best fish and chips in town though. Location: Good Decor: Good Food/ Drink: Okay Service: Okay Price: Okay Details: The location is on main street and there was plenty of roadside parking available nearby, which was great. I went there with a group on a tuesday evening, after speaking to somebody there who told me that their fish and chips(tuesday special) was the best in town. Speaking of which, LBC does not do reservations which is a bummer. But they have a lot of room, so maybe it isn't too much of a problem. I loved their menu, which looked like a newspaper (see pic), with plenty on it to do if you get bored. Getting back to the fish and chips platter, I was not impressed. I admit that I did come in with high expectations based on the up-sell over the phone (so points for their sales skills). The fish came in smaller pieces, which is not a bad thing, but they were covered with so much batter. It was a shame really, because the fish didn't taste too bad. But there was just too much batter around it and it was drenched in oil. The fries were fine, and the slaw that came with the platter wasn't my favorite, but others in my group seemed to like it. I think it was kale in the slaw that threw me off. Portion size was reasonable for the amount I was paying. I read a couple of reviews about the Bison burger and about how it was gamey. My friends ran into the opposite problem. They had asked for a medium burger and it came out raw. Service was okay, although I had to remind them about water more than a couple of times and the food came out quickly considering that we had a group of around ten people. We came here for Saturday lunch, no beer. They accommodated our newborn wonderfully, and i think actually it's a pretty kid friendly downtown spot. East End is also good but this is closer to farmers market. The staff are great and the food was inventive and interesting. Even my iced tea was brewed strong, which is actually rare. Good experience, as service and beer was 5 Stars. Food was closer to 3, portions seemed on par, the diversity on the menu allows a big party to appease all, but not really sure what the LAF food identity was. We sampled Chicken Wrap, Cheese Steak, Fish n Chip among others. The overall food grade was good food just slightly below temp... but good. The standard BOF brewery chips made in house were good and actually preferred over $2 side fry upgrade. The burgers seem to be house special, with detailed options for creative minded. So detailed the menu, the optional egg can be two cooking temps based on preference (egg yolk vs over easy). We do plan to return. read more

What a great local brewery located in the heart of downtown with street parking and great huge windows to look out at while dining. I came about 2:30 pm on a Saturday and it wasn't busy. I was able to go inside with my tween and we noticed all the great woodwork and art on the wall. Very clean inside with plenty of tables that were large enough to fit 4 or more people and some tables by the window. Greeted by a young lady and seated right away. The waiter came to our table quickly and we ordered waters, I don't like when they come so fast and ask if we know what we'd like to drink and eat. For never being here before I def needed some time over the food menu and extensive beer menu. After all, i came to have a beer. After deciding on a few small appetizers and a beer I noticed that hey also offered croaker specials on this day and after tasting their light crisp beer they had on tap, sorry forgot the name, I ordered one to go to to enjoy later with some friends. Appetizers came within a good time frame and we weren't over impressed by them. The chips were meh and the soup didn't really wow me. It came out a little more more hot than like warm and it def could have been more heat hot. The beer however, hit the spot and if I was out with some friends I would have enjoyed a couple more. Decent prices on food and beer and would be a great place to hang out with friends or go on a date. I bet this place gets packed with college kids on the weekends. They do have a separate bar room that is a good decent size with tables and bar stools. Plenty of nostalgia based beer signs hang all over but it's right off the dining room and you can hear the noise from the bar seeping into the atmosphere of the dinning room. I wouldn't doubt that when this place gets busy it would be pretty loud inside. Sadly there isn't any outside seating but the windows help. It is a bit dark inside due to all the wood and dim lighting. From the outside this establishment looks hip and standard for a brewery restaurant. When you walk inside the look is more dated, less clean and less focus on aesthetics. There is seating outside. We asked to be seated outside and the manager who helped us at the host station said there were no outdoor seats available and laughed and said he had no idea when I asked what the wait for outdoor seating was... ok. I guess it's crazy to think the manager cares. He actually said he doesn't check to see when tables are finishing like that would be crazy talk. So we sat inside and were seated immediately. Sunday is kids free night at the brewery so it was pretty loud inside. The menus are sticky and not clean. And there was not a beer menu on the tables. They were out of 2 including the only wheat beer they had. One at our table wanted a wheat or Hefeweizen and I could hear someone at the table next to us sling as well. After we place our orders another server came by, greeted us and let us know he was our server. Okay... we let him know we already ordered and he said yeah it's chaotic tonight. So far I was thinking their management is seriously lacking here. On to the food... I tried a flight of beers also Lacafe- red ale with coffee. Nice mellow beer with coffee hints. This is good if you don't want a stout but would like coffee nuances. Jacktown amber- more traditional red ale. I'm getting the feeling these beers won't punch you with flavor but they are balanced, drinkable and pleasant. I have to say my feelings towards LBC have improved recently. It's obvious that they have put effort into improving on their efforts in various ways. Firstly, the menu features a wide variety of options for any eater with an impressive amount of options for those with dietary restrictions - for a place that mostly serves bar-type food. It seems they are trying to get away from that. For example they serve the beyond burger and a jackfruit torta for vegans and vegetarians and have a nice selection of gluten free options. As for the beer, I ordered a flight recently full of their seasonal options including the Schwarzbier and the 53 Years - fantastic! Both featured such tasty and bold flavors, highly recommend. What a cool little brewery in Lafayette! I sat in the back and had a great view of all the tanks. Lafayette is a cool little hipster town so this place really fit the vibe. As a vegetarian visiting the Midwest, I usually have to be pretty careful where I go. I was happy to see this place had a bunch of options. I ended up ordering the pesto grilled cheese with Parmesan fries. Very tasty and totally hit the spot. It paired well with the beers I tried. My favorite out of the 2 beers was the Tippecanoe Common Ale. The sour that I tried was so meh that I forget the name. The waiter did a great job managing our party of about 11. This place was just ok. We went as a family of 4 on a Saturday around 6. Not super busy. Seated immediately. Ordered 2 beers and it took about 20 minutes to receive 2 draft beers. Waitress apologized and I easily replaced 1beer which I did not like the taste of which was a nice gesture. I got fish and chips and husband got a burger. Kids meals included 2 sides, 1 of which was "fruit"which consisted of a non peeled mandarin orange. Food was just ok. Wouldn't go again. Most of wait staff looks irritated. Although my first impression wasn't fantastic, by the time I had sampled four of their beers in a flight, I knew this place was great. When I arrived just before 5, most of the staff was in a meeting in the back room. I could see them and until I figured it out, I was wondering why nobody greeted me. I did see a bartender to my right in the bar area and decided to grab a spot. I was greeted and asked about flights and they have them: 4 five ounce beverages for only $6! Wow! Soon, all the staff was back on the floor and I saw guests were now being greeted and asked if they wanted the dining side or the bar room side. Order had been restored! For my choices I tried the Passion 4 Hefeweizen (4.2%, 14 IBU), the Star City Lager (5.0%, 32), the Java Oatmeal Stout (6.2%, 36), and finished with the To Helles and Doppelbock (8.3%, 20). I am a fan of Hefeweizen and usually get it if available in every flight I order. This particular one was okay with the passion fruit added, but lacked the full depth of the good banana and clove taste I look for. The Star City seemed to be popular among my bar neighbors, but after drinking the Hefe, seemed a little light on taste. Okay, just nothing to rave about. But then I moved onto the Java Oatmeal and was blown away by the great balance of flavor. If you like coffee (I mean real coffee, not some fru fru fancy pants kind), then you should love this! The flavor was deep and rich without the bitterness of a coffee that is burned or too strong. Just delicious! So, after that, I was wondering if the To Helles and Doppelbock would be a let down. Not a problem as this was also a delicious flavor. I struggle to describe it, but the menu says it has hints of caramel and crusty bread warmed by alcohol. It had a great, almost tingling feeling as I swallowed the ale. Wow! That was a great beer. Check out was quick and efficient and the place began filling up before long. I don't know why I haven't reviewed LBC earlier! This used to be one of my favorite casual date spots in Lafayette. Excellent beers, good prices and a menu that's a notch or two above your standard bar food. On my most recent trip, the guys I was with decided to order the flight. The waitress suggested sharing it between to the two of them because "it's a lot of beer", but they decided to each get their own. They left pretty tipsy because the flight includes large samples of many different beers. It was a great way to try most of their brews. I'd recommend ordering the flight (not sure if it was on the menu or not) if you're a first time visitor. All in all: good food, good prices and great beer. Stick wit da burgers! The problem with this place is it is a brew pub with better food than beer. We've sample beer here 3 times now and I suppose we are gluttons for bad beer because we haven't liked the brews any of those times. The food is pretty good though! I mean it's standard fare for pub food, but pretty good overall. It's just that I don't think I would come here just for the food. The allure of the brew pub idea is that I kill two birds with one stone and get good food and drink in the same spot. But the beer here ruins it for me. The last time it seemed as though the temperature was not quite right and the wheat tasted a little on the flat side to me (bottom of the keg?). At any rate, the ambiance is nice and they have a great location. I'd stick wit da burgers and get your beer elsewhere. He was attentive with refills and quick to clear dirty plates. We started with the Scotch Eggs (hard boiled eggs wrapped in ground sausage and deep fried). Perfectly cooked and great for sharing. I had the Brewhouse chicken w/ biscuits and gravy. Not your typical biscuits. They were made with house spent grains which means they were dark in color, (almost black) dense and a little heavy. I didn't love them but I was glad to try something new. The traditional white gravy was sprinkled with cheddar cheese and jalapeños. Get ready for a kick! The best part of the dish was the beer battered chicken fingers! Perhaps the best I've ever had! So flavorful and juicy!! Reminded me of fish-n-chips. My husband had the Bison burger cooked medium rare w/ blue cheese crumbles and homemade potato chips. He said it was great! The French onion soup was a hit too! Will definitely go back again. There are few things better than gathering in a brewpub to enjoy good company and good craft beer. When I'm in Lafayette visiting family, this is my go-to when contemplating our night out. I've been here a few times and they have all been great experiences. This is some of the best craft beer I've ever had. Really. The quality is so apparent and the flavor-notes are deep and complex - a beer connoisseur will feel right at home at LBC. The staff also does an excellent job of describing the beers to those less versed beer enthusiasts so you don't end up with a bad taste in your mouth. The menu is also pretty solid, plenty of burger and wrap options with homemade fries and kettle chips. The Blue Buffalo Chicken soup is an excellent choice, if available - it's really flavorful on the front end with plenty of kick on the back for that signature buffalo taste.
