Lafayette Brewing Co. fit the bill. The middle-of-the-block downtown location lead to a search-and-find on-street parking spot and a short walk. Always interesting in almost any college town. The front door opens into a large space with a Please Seat Yourself sign, lots of patrons and plenty of open seating options. We grabbed what looked like an Alternative Newspaper but was really the establishment menu on our way to an open four top. Typical brewhouse fare: apps, soups, salads, unique sandwiches, burgers and more. We chose to graze on three shared apps: Bavarian Beer Nuggets...balls of sauerkraut, cream cheese and spicy ground sausage rolled in panko bread crumbs and deep fried. Served with horseradish sauce. $8.00 Buffalo Chicken dip and tri-colored tortilla chips...shredded chicken in a light just-right-spicy-hot buffalo sauce with celery and ranch dressing. $8.50 and the Hummus plate. House made roasted red pepper hummus served with warmed pita bread, kalamata olives, feta cheese, fresh carrot, celery and cucumber. $8.50 All three selections proved to be to our liking and an agreement that they could certainly be ordered again. To enjoy alongside the apps we went with a pint of LBC Star City Lager all around. The choice brought us a medium-bodied golden brew. A well balanced, classic German lager that could be an all day fav. Five stars for the beer. (I've never eaten there, so read some other reviews if you want to know about their food.) I gotta give the brewmaster at LBC some serious props. Their beers are very assertive... no light lager at LBC. I happen to love hoppy west coast ales, and if you do, LBC delivers. Their common ale and eighty five are fantastic. And as I write this there is a seasonal IPA and also a cask conditioned IPA that are sublime. They also serve their beer a bit warmer than the average bar. This brings out the flavor. (Coldness tends to numb the taste buds, which is why when you're drinking shitty beer fishing or camping, hopefully it is near freezing.) But warmer beer is a daring move considering many people would find this to be a turn off. True beer lovers will love Lafayette Brewing Company. Cheers! P.S. Wednesdays are $2.50 pint night. Walking around downtown, my friends and I decided to run inside to grab a bite to eat- which I have to say usually isn't my style. I am very much a planner and tend to try places by recommendations, reviews, or checking out a menu online first. When we entered inside, the environment was very cozy. The menu had just the right amount of options- it was not overwhelming but there were options for everyone which was very appeals to our group. The food sadly missed the mark for me. I ordered the chicken ranch wrap. There was hardly any wrap on the sandwich and it essentially tasted like grease. While bar food does not need to be the healthiest, I was at least expecting some kind of flavor. Other individuals also tried various dishes including tacos and a sandwich with jackfruit, but they both complained of the sauces being average at best. There's so much drama in the LBC... did I just date myself? Is Snoop Dogg (Lion) no longer relevant? LBC's food selection for an out of towner vegan was NOT relevant, but the waitress was awesome and asked the cook to whip up a portobella mushroom burger for me. It wasn't great, but it was food. The beer was also ok. I had 3 diff guys, and none jumped out as being really fantastic, so I didn't bother to mark down names. All in all, a decent experience. read more

This brewery holds nostalgic charm for me. This was where I first enjoyed a tasty micro-brewed beer (Black Angus Oatmeal Stout). For me this started my personal brewing revolution and pursuit of greater, tastier, local beer. The aged atmosphere and beer still bring me in to this day. The beers are simple, straight forward ales. A good balance of malts and hops can be found here. The food leaves a little something to be desired, however, I usually only swing by for a pint or two and a growler fill. This is one of the oldest microbreweries in Indiana and is well worth a stop. read more

Hubs and I go to Lafayette Brewing company every few months and enjoy it. They have a nice selection of microbrews, but I'm not a beer person so I can't comment on it. They do have flights which I have tried on occasion. I think they have a small wine selection as well but no mixed drinks or liquor. We enjoy eating out on the patio which is often full on a nice day unfortunately. We really love their French onion soup; it's one of the best I've had. Their fish and chips could be better. The fish is more like a chunk rather than a fillet. The fries are good though and can come with different seasonings. The Cajun seasoning was quite good. Overall I keep it in my restaurant rotation around Lafayette, but if you're not a beer person there are establishments you would definitely enjoy more. read more

We stopped in shortly after they opened on Sunday, placed our food order, and then proceeded to wait, and wait some more, and finally received our food 45 minutes later. The service was fantastic! Our waiter was sweet, attentive, and very helpful with beer suggestions. I should be clear we aren't serIous beer drinkers, but do enjoy a good brewery. They have a great selection of their own beers on tap at very reasonable prices ($6 for a flight of 4). On the downside, the selection is very "hop" heavy, with lots of bitter beers and not many wheat beers, stouts, etc. We tried 8 out of 12 beers and probably would only pick about 3 to drink again. Additionally, there was no sours, which I'm not taking any stars off for, since they're relatively rare. We didn't try the food, but it looked decent. Atmosphere is cute! read more

They also offer rentals of the 2nd floor space - a great option for a wedding if you are on a budget and prioritizing food & drink! We had our wedding (ceremony & reception) there and it was wonderful. The manager is great to work with, the staff at the event were all super on top of things. There were lots of choices for the food & drink packages and they were all very reasonable. Full disclosure - we went here for a Welcome Party thanking those of us who came from out of town for a wedding this past week-end. We had the entire upstairs to ourselves. They did make sandwiches, appetizers, veggie platters, desserts while serving wine, beer, soft drinks. The food was good and the serve staff very friendly. I was very impressed that as soon as they saw me walk in, they asked if I would prefer an elevator vs. stairs (broken foot). After saying yes, they took me up in the freight elevator. Hey, I was just thrilled to go up in any elevator. There were to go boxes provided for us all to take some food back to the hotel with us. However, an hour before the party was over, we looked up and all the food was gone. After asking, they told us that they were only allowed to leave food out for so long. There's a lot of little brewery's in Lafayette/West, so I was pretty happy to find out that LBC stacks up against them all and even brings the best in some cases. The main appeal is that they are a brewery and full kitchen unlike Peoples and Brokerage which is nice because you can totally come for a nice date or have a couple with the boys. The food is much better than the reviews that I read prior to coming. Everything is from scratch and they certainly have a few standouts which include the shrimp po boy, fish and chips, and chicken tippy. The beer selection is a little low for a brewery with about 10-12 taps, but the lack of variety is made up for in value (4.89/20oz pour makes it the cheapest craft beer in Lafayette area) as well as quality of the beer which is phenomenal. The service is always great and they are good with covid measures. If you're a student or someone in the area, LBC should definitely become a go-to. read more

Lafayette brewing is an absolute hidden gem. It takes real staying power, local support, and brewing expertise to stay open since 1993. The effort is apparent in everything. I had the smoked stout, imperial IPA, and barleywine. Let me start with the barleywine. You done fine many breweries that can pull off a hoppy barleywine. LBC does it with style. The nose is super floral hops with toffee and caramel which all carry through to the taste. The smoked stout was robust, balanced, and delicious. The DIPA was old school throwback pine citrus resinous hops. To eat, I had the fish and chips - authentic, satisfying, and the perfect pairing with the beer. We love to get the munchies at this place with a nice green salad to balance these cheesy fried potato bites. The decor is old, but I think it gives the place character. My wife and I stopped in recently, a couple hours before a concert at the theater next door. We got there around 5:30. The place was busy, but not overwhelmed. As we entered, we saw three or four empty tables in the dining area, so we figured we were good. The host, a dark-haired guy, told us there would be a half hour wait for a table. We turned around to make sure we were seeing at least three or four open tables that were visible, clean, and not marked "reserved" or anything. When we asked what was up with the empty tables, the guy just said, "There are people ahead of you. You can give us your number and we'll text you when your table is ready." Uh...ok? We hung around in the bar, kept an eye on the open tables, and waited for the text. We figured we'd get a pint and wait for our table. Although there were no open tables or barstools in the bar area, and a few people were standing around the bar with pints, the place was not jam packed with people. We were able to walk right up to the bar and stand there. We stood at the bar for 10 minutes without a bartender even so much as greeting us. You don't need to roll out the red carpet, but at least look out for people who are standing there and say hello and that you'll be right there if you're busy. After more than 10 minutes, during which at least three different bartenders walked by multiple times without acknowledging us, my wife spoke to a bartender who stopped at the taps in front of us, but didn't appear to notice us and did not acknowledge us. My wife was very polite: "Excuse me, I know you're busy, we just wanted to let you know we're here when you get a chance, etc." The bartender -- a woman with straight dirty blonde/brown hair, snapped and said, "Well, just so you know, there *are* people ahead of you." Whoa! After probably 15 minutes of standing around in a bar that wasn't THAT busy, followed by that kind of treatment, we decided the place wasn't worth our time or money, so we left. We were planning to have a few pints and dinner, so I guess they didn't want the money we were planning on spending. On our way out, guess what? The open tables were still open. Unacceptable. The beer is warm, the food is mediocre, and the ceiling fans are terrible. Beer: Their beer is served significantly warmer than standard beer temperature, which I think is gross. All of their beer is very hoppy. Typically a microbrewery will have many hoppy beers and then a few that are on the less bitter side (usually including a hefeweizen). They don't have a hefeweizen on their regular menu, and the seasonal wheat beer they have is also bitter (and it's an "American style" wheat, so it has none of the flavor of German or Belgian wheats). Food: Typically microbreweries have great food, and unique options. LBC's food is similar to a chain restaurant like Applebees, but worse. I've had some brisket that was chewy, a chicken wrap that was nothing special, a bratwurst with really tough skin, and some spinach dip that was really spicy. Fans: For some reason, they have ceiling fans blasting ALWAYS. It makes the food get cold, blows my hair in my face, and dries out my contacts. Not fun. The food always takes forever. The staff is ok. The prices are high for what you end up getting. The food is never as good as you would expect from its description. Today it was the Cheddar Ale Soup and Chicken Meltdown. The soup is described as "A house specialty... a savory blend of our own house ale, cheddar cheese, andouille sausage, diced potatoes and a medley of vegetables." They aren't kidding with that description. There was no seasoning. No salt, no pepper, no nothing. It was terrible. I couldn't add enough salt or pepper to make it taste like anything. Worthless. The Chicken meltdown is supposedly "Blackened chicken, applewood smoked bacon, smoked gouda cheese and chipotle-stout bbq sauce grilled between slices of jalapeño cornbread. " The chicken was lightly seasoned, but far from blackened. I would call it lightly sauteed. The sauce was the best part, but too scarce. Jalapeno corn bread is a misnomer - It was bread with a touch of corn meal involved, and no spice whatsoever. My kids ate free since it was Sunday, but their meals of pepperoni pizza, fruit and tortilla chips were no better than a high school cafeteria. They do have one of the nicest coloring page/menus for kids I've seen at any restaurant. Overall I don't like going here, I don't know why I've been here several times already, but that's that. The first time I went here, I had a bad experience. The service was absolutely terrible and I was told that they ran out of knives so I couldn't have one. And our food took almost an hour to get to our table on a Thursday night. But I recently went back and had a much better experience. The service was great and it was a very busy Saturday evening during a festival in Lafayette. The food also arrived much quicker! I ordered the vegetarian fresh wrap and it's delicious and tastes very healthy. The beers they have brewed from Lafayette are decent but nothing super special. Their onion rings are some of the best I've ever had (and i'm not an onion ring fan), and go great with every single one of their burgers or sandwiches they offer. Such a great late night find! The hubs and I are always looking for fun places to eat on the road but work late so it gets tricky. Stumbled upon this place and couldn't be happier! The Bavarian beer nuggets were amazing and the waiter suggested the Ranchero chicken wrap with steak instead, it was great. Hubs had the bison burger which was too gamey for me, but he liked it just fine, and the Cajun fries were fantastic. Came in on a Tuesday night last minute to get some food around 8 PM. We got a seat immediately and once we were ready to order we found out we had no one to wait on us. So we waited, and waited and waited.. finally the person who sat us took our order. We got the cob salad which was huge and very good. Also got a Waygu burger which was tasty but not cooked the way it was ordered. After we were done eating we waited, and waited, and waited to take our plates away and give us our check. My 17-year-old son finally went up to the bar and asked somebody to bring the check over. Even trying to get and pay for the check was confusing with the staff. It feels unfair for me to write a review of LBC considering only a few beers were available the day that I dropped by with some friends but --- you're a brewery. With only four beers in stock. One of which is a type that's typically brewed for people who are afraid of craft beer. The beers we tried were good but nothing special. I can't speak to the food because we didn't have any. Also, I was a little bit annoyed to look at a menu with a beer special - but a beer special only for people who pay to be part of an exclusive club. Hmmm, this beer tourist feels a little unspecial.
