Tucked away in Hilton Head Plantation. Although the community is gated, the Tavern is open to the general public. Friendly staff and a laid back, yet elegant dining room set on the golf course. Diverse menu offering everything from burgers, salads and fish. On this visit we ordered the Jucy Lucy and Mushroom Burgers and Crab Stuffed Flounder. The Burgers were each served with your choice of side and the portions were plentiful. I appreciated the abundance of toppings however found the burger patty to be under seasoned and dry. The crab stuffed flounder was perfectly cooked. I also enjoyed the light lemony flavor of the sauce. Looking forward to returning in the near future. read more

Above all, Val is the best employee at Oyster Reef and Lagerhead. (Second to Mark in the pro shop). Saw her working hard as Cart service person on course and then at Lagerhead. Located in Hilton Head Plantation at Oyster Reef Golf Club. It is open to the public. Just tell security you are going for lunch/dinner, they will let you in. Easy parking with nice size restaurant with indoor or outside sitting. The patio is very nice. The food is why you go. Menu is great with many offerings. We went for lunch with property owners. They offered 10 different burgers one being the famous Juicy Lucy. Also have 8 sandwiches to pick from. Appetizers are very good. Is the food good? YES:)! You will go back. We had shaved prime rib sandwich, chicken pesto flat bread & fried chicken sliders - 3 per order. Try a side of homemade chips. All very good!!! Prices are very good & competitive. Disappointed by Poor Service We had high hopes for our evening at Lagerhead Tavern, but unfortunately, the experience was extremely disappointing. We had a 7:30 reservation but ended up waiting nearly 10 minutes at the hostess stand before anyone acknowledged us or seated us. Once we were finally at our table, it took just as long--if not longer--for our drinks to arrive after we ordered them. We looked at the menu before heading to the restaurant and decided the chicken piccata would be one of our choices. It was ordered and the waiter had to come back out of the kitchen several minutes later to tell us they were out. We wished we were told that when we were seated but I guess it was too late now. While we were still enjoying our dinner around 8:30, we attempted to order dessert and were told that the kitchen had closed at 8:00--meaning we couldn't order dessert. At no point were we informed about this cutoff when we were seated or during our meal. Nor did our waiter ask us at any time if we would like another cocktail. The lack of communication and consideration for guests with later reservations was frustrating and unacceptable. The service throughout the night felt disorganized and inattentive, compounding our frustration. For a restaurant that positions itself as a quality dining experience, the basic expectations of courtesy and clear communication were completely missed. We won't be returning. read more

This restaurant does not offer gluten free options not any gluten free bread or buns which is unusual nowadays. The options for people with celiac disease are limited to salads or sandwiches or burgers without the bread or bun. Most everything else is either breaded or has some type of gluten in it. read more

Nice looking place , thought it had some potential but I was proved wrong. When I arrived ahead of my party of six I was greeted by a waitress. I said we are going to be six and I'm not sure if they want to be inside or outside. The abrupt response was " we don't push tables together outside so your inside ". Ok that would be fine was my answer. After a few minutes we ordered four cocktails and one draft beer. When the waitress returned with two of the drinks one with out the shaved cucumber and sugar rim as described on the menu, and the draft listen to what she had to say!!! " I don't know how to make your bourbon old fashions and The bartender is having dinner with his family so it will a bit " it was down hill from here. Two guests ordered the fish and shrimp tacos. They were terrible, no flavor, barely and seafood and way to much cheese, extremely poor. My Caesar salad had an oily dressing nothing like Caesar dressing at all. It also had an outrageous amount of radish and red peppers, never saw that on a Caesar salad before, very poor salad, nothing like I expected. I ordered the Caesar with a piece of grilled salmon on top and what I got was an overcooked salmon done in the oven not grilled , very dry and tasteless. Then I asked for a side of blue cheese dressing to maybe make my meal taste a bit better but after being told that would be 75cents it showed up 10 minutes later ( as I sat waiting) it was some kind of soupy ranch or something other than blue cheese, not a lump of blue cheese to be found. One person ordered a flatbread that was covered in chunky blue cheese ( way too much) so I guess they had blue cheese.the calamari and the fried oyster appetizers were over cooked and tasteless, no one enjoyed them. My wife ordered the Oyster chowder, sorry to say but this may have been the worst dish of all, tasted like paste with not an oyster to be found, come on talk about " not ready for prime time"? Oh and this was the last straw. When the bartender returned to his post he did finally make the two old fashions but he made them completely wrong no muddled orange and sugar with bitters but a cherry instead like a Manhattan . Why did we have to wait for him to finish dinner for this? It was a really poor job done by all, I don't understand why people put up with this. They put a 20% gratuity on the bill and we spent 300$ total. Needless to say we won't be going back. Someday an owner of a place like this will contact the person writing such a review like this about their restaurant and be interested enough to reach out and learn something about their business. I prefer to write an outstanding review of places but these days I find it hard to find places that live up to the prices that are being charged. That's why I cook at home. Thanks for nothing Lager-head the food and the drinks were really poor. Our sweet waitress did a nice job on giving us service with what she had to work with. Maybe a lesson in what to say and what not to say is in order . Are there not any restaurants around anymore that actually have a manager training the staff and also checking on what's going on. It's a thing of the past. Yet when you get your bill it asks for a tip stating at 20% and going upwards. There was nothing in this place that warrants us ever going back. read more

We met up with a few friends for dinner. The food was good but the service was not so good. All our food tasted great and was fresh. They have a good selection of alcoholic drinks. It's in a nice location. However the server was not so good. She was in a rush to get us out as soon as we sat down. She rushed us into ordering and even brought out our check before we got our dessert. She did not ask some of us what we wanted for dessert but we did not bother telling her because she would get annoyed. We were a party of 4 coming off golf course into this Restaurant attached to golf course around 4pm..all 50 tables empty but 5.. Chris the mgr greeted us..asked if we had a reservation..we said no.. he said all walk ins are offered only high top tables..we inquired about all the empty tables..and rudely told us he was not accepting any reservations.. It was that or nothing... so we sat at a high top and was served by Michelle..who was pleasant.. She took our order with little conversation... The pulled pork.. Burger and Reuben were delicious.. But the Mgr needs to learn how to be more respectful to his guests.. We ate within an hour..and left with 3/4 of the place still empty... read more

We stopped in for lunch after a round of golf. I ordered the shrimp salad with the best balsamic dressing I have ever had in my life. Koodo's to the chef, as I was told it it home made. Being in the food industry for 35 years, I have tasted a lot of salad dressings. My husband had a delicious fried chicken sandwich. It had a crispy breading and nice thick and juicy interior. 2 stars are only because the food is pretty good. The service and the attitude of the servers and the management are awful! We were a party of 10 given a new server - not wise. It took 2 1/2 hours for us to order, eat, and pay the checks. One of us never got their order. When we apprised them that we'd like to pay our tab and leave because one of our group was physically unable to sit any longer we were told by our server that she was trying to get the checks right. The problem here is that we asked when we ordered if we could do it as couples and she said she would "square it away later"..... Not very well, though. The manager, the server, and other severs/managers were just plain nasty. We were told that they were very busy and short of help. I understand that lack of staff is a problem for businesses of late - but hat does NOT allow for their attitude. NEVER going there again! read more

We were recently in HHI for a golf trip. This restaurant was situated within the golf club. It's open to the public just like any other restaurant. My husband and I were pleasantly surprised in how delicious all the different food we ordered. We dined 3 times, had their fall of the bone ribs, low country Reuben and flounder sandwich. Fries that came with the dishes were fantastic and big portions. For the vegetarians, their salads are delicious and I agree with one of the other reviews that the house made balsamic vinaigrette is tasty. Service was exceptional. I have been here three times now. Never disappointed. First, low key and no crowds which is why I hesitate to write this. Second, the craft beer on tap is great. I really like the bourbon ale. Someday I will bring home a growler. Third, the food is not just good, it is reasonably priced. The servers have all been pleasant. I think they have regulars that dine here. The food was delicious but the manager Chris was very rude. We came into a completely empty restaurant asking for a table for four after playing a round of golf at their course when we were told they were booked and not taking any more reservations. We did say to the manager the place was completely empty and did not understand why they would not accommodate us. After pushing back a little he said he could only seat us in a corner high top. We took the table and then had a delicious meal. By the time we were ready to leave there were still plenty of tables empty. There are plenty of places with good food in Hilton Head but the service makes the place. This place failed! read more

Not sure what was worse, the food, the staff, or the clientele complaining about the "non-regulars". We had to wait 30 minutes for a table despite having a reservation. After finally getting the table we were completely ignored until we flagged down a waiter. Food wasn't even worth the wait. Hilton Head has plenty of other restaurants that you should visit over this one. Leave this one for the crusty puffed up regulars. read more

We know that during this time, it's hard to keep places staffed and moving liken well oiled machines, however, our server on Monday night was awful. Zero personality and she ended up charging me for a salad that was to come with a meal that was ordered. We are a family that always treats all hospitality employees with the most possible respect, but from the very beginning when we walked in, we were made to feel like an outsider and that we were not wanted. Look I'm not one to write reviews often, but skip this place. And this is coming from someone who lives in "the plantation". I have only had one good meal and normal interaction while sitting at the bar myself. Otherwise, every other time, service is slow, and servers seem bothered to be working. It is a shame because the food is decent, but the manager of this restaurant needs to train the staff better. I came in tonight 30 minutes before closing, just myself, and was about to be seated when another server rudely stated "no we are not serving anyone else!!" So I went to another restaurant that has happily served me before at 10 minutes to closing, I get it with a larger party. Heck, I might have even stayed just for a drink and no food but nothing was offered. Probably not a good idea to be so rude to the people that bring you business during the off season. read more

I ate here for a lunch meeting and it was a great experience. The waitress Claudia was fantastic and gave tips on what was good. She also kept my water full the entire time and I drink A LOT. I ended up ordering the new menu item - the stuffed shrimp and vegetables. The shrimp were good size and stuffed with a big spoonful of crab, and then it was covered in a wonderful cream sauce. The vegetables were seasoned to perfection and I liked the sauce so much that I was dipping my vegetables in it too. The rest of my table got the butternut squash salad, the low country Reuben, and the bbq pork sandwich. EVERYTHING looked good, especially the house made chips that came with the Reuben. Okay, please please do not come here unless you are willing and ready to wait FOREVER for service. It took 30 minutes before a waitress came by and even brought waters. Even then that was because we basically stopped someone-- they were not coming nor paying us attention. It was over an hour into our dinner and our appetizers hadn't even come yet. What it is, is the dining room for a semi-private golf club community, and as such, it's buried in the middle of "The Plantation" which winds on forever, the address listed in Open Table is incorrect and leads to a residential street, and outsiders (non-residents) do not appear to be terribly welcome here. After a lengthy drive, we didn't have a problem getting seated but then for the rest of the evening it was like pulling teeth to get our server's attention. Additionally, she was just this side of rude, possibly even overtly rude, the entire evening right up until she presented the check and turned on the charm.
