This is one of those places that has only a few things on the menu, but they do those things SO well. Their niche is smash burgers and waffle fries, and they did not disappoint. Starting with the burger, I like when a smash burger is ACTUALLY a smash burger. They include cheese and pickles on it and it was just the perfect burger. I think it's pretty high on my burger rankings. Might even beat Heavy's! I feel like it's rare to get waffle fries unless you're going to Chick Fil A, so it was nice to have them with our burger. We got a bag to share and there was plenty. They were salted and seasoned to perfection and perfectly crispy. The Good: The Smashburgers are excellent -- cheese, pickles, and onions all on point. If you haven't been here, stop settling for chain burger joints. This is genuinely one of the best burgers around. The waffle fries deserve a special mention: fresh, nicely done, and you get a generous portion. Think Chick-fil-A fries, but the way they should be. The Truffle Fries are solid too -- just a bit rich for my taste, but that's purely personal preference. I also tried the Sweet & Spicy Chicken -- good and flavorful, though slightly heavy on the batter for me. Still worth a try. A Couple of Suggestions: A lower-carb side option would be a welcome addition -- I asked and it was a hard no. Hopefully Tin and Tallow considers adding some healthier alternatives down the road. Breakfast -- Proceed with Caution: The croissant with egg and cheese was, unfortunately, a miss for me. The egg and cheese were fine, but buttering an already butter-heavy croissant and griddling it turned it into a flat, gooey mess. I hear there's a biscuit option, which might be better -- but personally, I'd love to see an English muffin or bagel on the menu. Something with a little more structure would go a long way. Bottom Line: Come for the burgers and fries -- you won't be disappointed. Just maybe skip the croissant breakfast for now. read more

Decided to try Tin & Tallow while our family was staying on HHI. When we arrived it was SLAMMED. We almost didn't stop, because we figured there would be a massive wait. Thankfully we didn't let the crowd deter us. The line was pretty long, but went very quickly. You order at the counter, then grab a seat & your food is brought out to you. Even with the crowd, service was fast and pleasant. Our party had the waffle fries (plain and truffle), the chicken sandwich, and three burgers. We also ordered the egg rolls which were Chicken Parm with marinara sauce. Everything was excellent. The vibe was laid back, there was live music & great people watching :) We will return! read more

I've been visiting Hilton Head Island every year for the past 10 years, and I don't remember seeing this place before--so I'm guessing it's a newer spot (but I could be wrong). Either way, I'm glad we found it! We came with another couple to grab a quick bite, and wow--I was impressed. I ordered "The Burger" double with onions and sauce on the side, plus a half order of waffle fries (perfect for sharing with one or two people). These are smashed burgers, and they do them right! The burger and fries were both packed with flavor and perfectly seasoned--which is rare for me to say, because I usually don't even care for burgers from restaurants. But this one? Totally different story. You can tell they put care into what they're serving. Food comes in a to-go bag, but there's plenty of seating inside and out if you want to chill and eat there. I wish I had a photo of my burger. It just didn't live up to the hype of the 4 and 5 star reviews. Ultra thin smash burger bordering on non-existent meat. That's how thin it was. I've had plenty of smash burgers to compare this one to. I did have the sauteed onions and the sauce on the burger. It just became a saucy mess. The reviews on the garlic parmesan fries were that they were bad. Our cohorts got the smash burger and the eggrolls. Both good reviews. Said they were very good. 1 couple with us got the original chicken sandy and they thought it was mushy. So out of the 6 of us 4 liked it a lot. The place has outdoor patio and indoor space. Easy to find burger joint right off the main highway in Hilton Head. Parking is a gravel parking lot and on the day o visited it was crowded. We had to search for a spot and squeezed into a little spot next to a tree. The restaurant itself is small. You have to order at the counter and then there are four or five tables inside to eat, as well as some outside seating. There's a bar outside for those who indulge. The staff was friendly-ish. They didn't have to do much except take your order and call your number but I guess that could've made that unpleasant, they were fine. I had a bacon cheeseburger and fries. It was definitely a good burger. I'm not sure if I'd make the extra effort to make it to this place if one of the top rated national burger chain restaurants is closer. However, I'm not at all disappointed in my visit. There was a live band playing, who seemed to have a nice sound and good crowd. Overall, I'd go back if it's convenient. read more

This place is legit! The service is great, everyone is super friendly and will help you with your order if you need to customize it. The burgers are top quality, especially the weekly specials they do. Very juicy and full of flavor. Then the fries which are fried in beef tallow are amazing. I'll never come here and not get a full order of them lol. Place is about an hour away from me and it's been worth the trip every time. The only reason it is not a 5 star is that I really think it's a negative when a burger place does not have Heinz Catsup. You can feature others but Heinz is a requirement. The burger is a smash burger and it was done well; the caramelized onions were great and I am not a fan of pickles or sauces on my burgers and they were happy to accomodate. The waffle fries with the truffle and parmesan were outstanding and I would definitely recommend going for these. We sat outside to eaet since it's a beautiful fall day. Wonderful place! Service is excellent and food is superb! They have a variety of alcoholic beverages and regular beverages. They have knock knacks inside as well. The smash burgers are the best, thin and full of flavor. More outdoor seating than indoor so prepare for that if it's a hot/cold day. Stage for music and a huge tv display. Seems to have entertainment several nights a week. Cute little kids play area which we enjoyed for our little. The ladies at the counter and the one delivering food are exemplary. i came here this AM hoping to get a burger, but they only had breakfast. - I ordered a chicken biscuit. $11 seemed steep, but what the hell, the reviews made this place sound amazing. it was disgusting; i couldn't even finish it. the chicken was gristly dark meat that i couldn't even cut with a knife or chew. i threw it in the trash and left. the coffee was delicious, and im sure they can't mess up a burger - but the chicken was foul as hell read more

I'm a local and I eat at the Tin & Tallow maybe once every other week, and I been going since they opened the restaurant. Hands down, the best smash burgers iv'e ever tasted and also amazing waffle fries. The amount you get for the price of Half Order of Waffle Fries, is like a steal (please don't change the price ;-;). Out of all the times iv'e shown up, they only made one mistake but it's an honest mistake (forgot one item but it was ready to go) and doesn't mean it should be 4/5 stars since we are humans, ya know? Interior and Exterior is really good, it's really a chill place to hang since they got a BIG TV outside with a lot of seating and seating variety. I just wish the parking was expanded because it does get really packed and then you gotta park on the side of the road, and we know how drivers are here on the island. Other than that, I just wish the smash burgers could be just a dollar off since it can add up quite a bit (I don't know the behind the scenes, so for all we know, we could be paying a good price, idk). The sign does have the word, "Gourmet" for a reason so I guess you know your money is gonna be well spent. I can only wish more success for this business because of how great they are :D read more

They were out of the egg rolls when we ordered. The smash burger was delicious. They seem to have a decent following as we watched numerous folks come just for food and not drinks.
