This Italian restaurant is in the heart of Oconomowoc. I had high hopes for dinner because I had wanted to try this restaurant for awhile. The service from the time we arrived till the end of dinner was perfect. Rob, our server was attentive and polite. The ambiance was lovely as well. I love a restaurant with white tablecloths and lights on the table. We were seated at a window with a view of the lake. The wine list was extensive. As was the cocktail menu. My martini was perfect. As was my husband's Manhattan. We ordered the meatballs as a anti-pasta starter. That's where things started to go wrong.. the meatball was to be made of short ribs, peas, and rice. There was a tiny speck of short rib. One. Tiny. Speck. It was all rice. My husbands dish was amazing. I ordered the eggplant Parmesan. It was probably the worst I've ever had. Rubbery and lacking flavor. I normally love eggplant Parmesan. How can you screw this up? They knew we were there for our anniversary. Not one person mentioned it, until we did. Okay, Su Lago... we see you Just wow--across the board. The building itself is stunning, perfectly situated right on Lac La Belle Lake and serving up all the dreamy lake-country vibes. Inside, the décor is clearly intentional, with thoughtful details that make the space feel warm, elevated, and inviting. The service was outstanding. We had a fairly large group (around 10 people), and not once did anyone go without water, drinks, or a friendly check-in to make sure everything was perfect. Truly attentive without feeling overbearing. If you're an Italian food lover, this is absolutely the place. Pasta, bread, steak--they have it all, and nothing disappointed. And the cheese wheel?! You don't need a trip to Italy for that experience. Watching my son's noodles get coated in rich, melty cheese tableside was both delicious and memorable--an experience all on its own. It's a beautiful restaurant. We had eaten here before and really enjoyed it. This time that was not the case. The service was very slow from beginning to end. It took 15 minutes for the server to come to us when we first got there and we were the only ones in the restaurant. We were going to get coffee and dessert, but we weren't going to wait any longer. It had been 20 minutes since she left with our dishes. The food was better the last time. We shared a the fig salad to start. They split it for us without asking if we wanted it split and then charged us for the split. My husband had the Raghu. It was fine, but nothing special not for that price. I had the sea bass. It was really salty. I was drinking iced tea and, when I ordered another one, I was informed that refills were not free. Seriously for the prices they charge, they need an extra $2.50? One of our favorite Italian spots in Wisconsin! The food is always on point I always get something different each time I come and it's always amazing, fresh, and flavor packed! Inside is cozy and can become loud when it's full but I like that about a place it means it's alive and thriving! The service is attentive and knows the food and wine menu well, we did wait 30 minutes to get our check after we were done which was annoying. The front and entrance to this restaurant is very inviting. Beautiful well stocked bar as you enter and great barkeep. We were seated near a window with a view which made the visit that much better. Appetizers on spot and dinner was very good. Seafood was perfectly cooked. The sauce had the perfect spice to it which did not hide the flavor of the tomatoes or the seafood. Unfortunately the bread served is hard square biscuit type rolls and only one per person. With a dinner like this with a high price I would have loved to have some fresh baked Italian bread. The Parmesan was taken off the table before dinner was served which upset the guests that joined me. All in all, the food was good and the service decent. Lago Su Bella is one of those restaurants that's stays in your rotation because the food is amazing, the staff is awesome, and we have the perfect experience every time! We love to first grab a drink at the bar (usually a gin martini) and chat with John, who is so nice and knows how to make a great drink! For dinner, it's hard for me to break away from their Short Ribs because they are so incredible. But sometimes (if they have it) we will do the pasta in the big cheese wheel! Happy New Year's Eve! We 6 had reservations for 7:00 on NYE and started the evening at the bar as our table was prepped. The tenders were working incredibly hard and well and seemed to have their dance going at all times. Very well done! Being seated at our table, we were greeted by our server, Sondra, who was a hoot! She was efficient, knowledgeable and had a sense of humor that was just the right touch. Appetizers: the bruschetta was piled high with tomato, and the calamari was crispy and done perfectly. The special menu was interesting, and all six of us ordered something different from the special and regular menu, and not one of us was disappointed. The noise level was not an issue for conversations, and the bussers were efficient, even when a glass of water took out one of our table covers. The parking right outside the front door is limited but there is parking across the street with a short 1/2 block walk. The entire restaurant has accessibility. The windows overlook the lake and in the warmer weather, I am sure the view is incredible. I always think a NYE dinner will be less than great since I regularly had so-so meals at higher prices. While I was in town last week, friends suggested this place for our last dinner and it didn't disappoint! We walked in and were warmly greeted and shown to a table up front (we were a large party) Being seated by the bar had an advantage as our drinks came up quickly and were definitely well poured. While I didn't walk toward the back of the restaurant, the atmosphere seems "clubby" and maybe a little more upscale away from the bar area. We had a range of food and all of it was good. In fact, people devoured their food so quickly, I was only able to get a picture of all the desserts they brought out! From a fish standpoint, people in our group raved about the salmon and the scallops. For the meat eaters- the pork chop and the lamb were the winners. I had the Frutti de mare pasta which was very good with shrimp, scallops mussels and calamari. As for those desserts, we had cannolis (my fav) cheesecake, tiramisu, creme brule and an Italian donut with chocolate (I'm sure that has a much better name) but it doesn't matter as it was really delicious! Service was on point and I"d encourage you to make a reservation as the place was packed on this Sunday night. Parking is limited but there is a huge lot across the street. We come here often but the last three times have been consistently terrible. The food is either overcooked...undercooked orr improperly seasoned. Tonight it was the halibut. Small thing piece of fish cooked in butter. Extremely dry and hard as a rock from overcooking at too high of a temperature. Even when sent back still came back nearly the same way. Our experiences over the last three visits indicate poor supervision and training of the line chefs and not paying attention to what they are doing. Last visit was undercooked short ribs....Extremely tough. Think twice about coming here....there are such better choices in the area. Service was fine....no complaints. My husband and I visited this lovely restaurant for the first time last month to celebrate our anniversary. From the moment we were seated in front of the window that overlooked Lac La Belle, we knew we were in for a special night. Our server was friendly, knowledgeable of the menu and the evening's specials, available and responsive when we needed her, and was very patient as we took our time eating and leaving (after they had closed). There were so many incredible menu choices, but we both decided on pasta - my husband chose lasagna and I chose the seafood pasta (Frutti di Mare). Both were outstanding - perfectly cooked and flavored - and I took enough home for dinner the next night. We shared a salad, the bread service, and a bottle of wine, and we were treated to a cannoli for dessert in honor of our anniversary. My husband couldn't resist the ordering the creme brûlée dessert special as well, and both provided the prefect way to end an excellent dining experience. Wow, what a fun place! Had an excellent version of a perfect Manhattan, and a very fine meal. Service was prompt and very pleasant.

Food: the food was excellent. We had the table side cheese wheel pasta. We were expecting more for the table side service as it was a very fast experience. For dessert we had the chocolate dome. Service: was excellent. As expected for this type of restaurant. Ambiance: we had a table over looking the water, which was spectacular. Let me start by saying I absolutely despise mushrooms. Like the equivalent of absolute torture is eating a mushroom. That said, I would enthusiastically devour the Lago Su Bella truffle ravioli with wild mushrooms every single night for the rest of my life.. Other honorable mentions include: lobster truffle (lobster, need I say more), scallops (like actual butter), bruschetta (because obviously), beef tenderloin (soft potato pillow from heaven, smothered in gravy). Lago Su Bella is typically a special occasion place for us but we've turned any given Sunday in to a special occasion just to enjoy what we know will be a good meal. First off, it wasn't the food that brought me here. It was the ambiance. Lago Su Bella is situated right beside a beautiful stretch of lake. The views are splendid. The people working there were absolutely kind and attentive. So, my family was jazzed to get out of town and go have a lovely meal out. So we drove 30 minutes west to check out their Italian fare. Those who know me know that I often cite my 4 years living in Piemonte in Torino as some sort of indication that my bar is high when it comes to Italian cuisine. Yes, it is. However, I usually walk into a situation like this with the expectations to be lower. In fact, most Italian restaurants I've dined in outside of Italy are meh at best. Lago Su Bella was rather tasty. We had the eggplant parmigiana to start. It was made correctly and was a solid 7/10. Then we got the Margherita flat bread. It was a bit on the over olive oiled spectrum, but overall tasty. My wife had the black truffle, mushroom ravioli in cream sauce. I found the pasta to be slightly post al dente and zero trace of black truffle flavor, but pleasant. It was a tad heavy on the cream therefore making any flavors from inside the ravioli irrelevant. I had the gnocchi in a gorgonzola cream sauce. The cream was also overwhelming vs. the gnocchi, which was soft but sort of watery. For Wisconsin, this is an 8 out of 10. We walked away full and happy. And, again the place is gorgeous. The Oconomowoc downtown area has really improved in giving us our choice of restaurants. Lago Su Bella was an extremely lovely dining experience on a Friday night. No wait for a table for two. The place was packed, and I now know why. My friend had the mussels which were recommended by a patron who passed by our table, and the Brussel Sprouts. I had the Butternut Squash Ravioli with sherry cream sauce. Everything was so delicious !! Double Chocolate anyone? The chocolate martini was a dessert in itself. Our waitress was extremely helpful in all of our selections, and made our experience at this restaurant a comfortable one. The prices I thought were reasonable, and the portions were very good. The menu looks great. The execution is less than stellar. The gnocchi was decent- the Lamb and Beef Ragu Had a couple problems. The sauce lacked taste- super basic. The pasta was more al dente than necessary. The short ribs were chewy- needed a couple more hours rendering and getting yum. And I generally overlook waiting times these days- I don't want to bash the fine folks working understaffed establishments. BUT- we waited at our table for 15 minutes with no one batting an eye. We're we're trying to get a servers attention, too, but failed cuz they were all so busy. Seems like a miscommunication more than anything, but not a great way to start. read more

Wife and l are food enthusiasts so we wanted to try someplace different, her and I ordered the lobster truffle pasta and the lamb chops, while eating my pasta I started to choke and something that wasn't breaking down by chewing, I immediately tried to get it to come back up after it was lodged in my throat. Finally it came up to find out it was a red rubber band. My wife was really scared because she didn't know what was going on she just seen water coming out my eyes from choking. This is the first restaurant I gave a perfect rating to on a food item. I dream about the bruschetta burrata. I tried to re-create it the follow week to curb my craving (didn't get close ). Service was good. Food was great! Masks optional. We had a brand new server who was still good for it being her first night. They are attentive and keep you stocked with drinks and bread. Only docking was she was not wearing a mask. We would put ours back on when she would return to the table but that gets annoying when you're eating. For food, we got the ricotta gnocchi and bronzino. I attended Lago Su Bella during the summer months and genuinely enjoyed my experience. They have a nice bar where you can grab a drink prior to your meal as well as a friendly staff to greet you on your way in. The atmosphere was casual, but definitely one of the more upscale restaurants in downtown Oconomowoc. For my entrees, I got the Fish special which was the Branzino. Overall, it was a very good dish and it was prepared well. For finer dining this is definitely a spot I'd return to again soon. read more

Went here for Christmas dinner with my husband after rave reviews. Our server was absolutely fantastic. we sat in the bar since it was the only available table, but I think I would have preferred the dining room. The burrata app was delicious. It's all gone you can eat your food. we both got the Ragu, which was ok tasting and a good amount of food. I have definitely had better Ragus. The noodles were a little too thick so they ended up breaking apart into little pieces as I ate instead of staying intact like they should. I was a little disappointed, given all the hype I received, and probably wouldn't go back. It was overall a little pricey for the experience. read more
