Laguna Beach, Ca. Well I'm probably biased because my truck has always passed the test. I like how quickly they get started on your vehicle and they are friendly with no mechanics attitude. Waiting room is air conditioned with a clean restroom. WIFI in waiting room. More expensive here but the convenience is worth it. read more

Technician Noah was a pleasure to work with. He explained well the procedure - since I only get to do this once every two years. I like their service. location and its facilities - not only because I passed the smog test this time, was a 20-minute satisfactory test t'was a breeze. Prior, I went to a competitor closer to my residence - that was a bad move and a surreal experience. I failed that test and the tech gave me a lame or no explanation other than "I need to call DMV's BAR and talk to a "referee."" And to make matters worse, if I retake the test I will have to pay him in full -so much for customer service and "no" loyalty program. Maybe CA's smog testing thresholds went higher or stricter or has become too sensitive as California finds ways to burden consumers needlessly and drive away business but that's another topic. Don't waste your time going anywhere else. I had been trying to get my Jaguar smog check for 8 months. The regular smog check place that I was going to (and my mechanic) kept saying "the computer wasn't ready." They kept saying I had to put on more miles (at 55 mph). After driving almost 2,000 miles and $800+ repairs done at the mechanic that was not a certified Smog Repair, I was almost ready to give up. Then I went to Laguna Canyon Smog and Repair. Noah, the owner, was amazing. He studied up on Jaguars and found the exact speed formula for driving it. He had to drive late at night and early morning because it involved going 50 mph for so many minutes then dropping down to 2 mph for a few minutes, etc. Plus he found the tracking device wasn't working, and it was easy to snap back to on. So why hadn't my other people figured these things out? Noah apparently has the experience and the drive to solve mechanical problems. The shop is a little tricky to find. It is hard to find a trust worthy mechanic that is upfront and honest about costs, what can be expected and, that you feel good about leaving your car(s) with. To me taking my car in to some random place, or even back to the dealership feels like going to a used car dealership and dealing with people that are trying to swindle you and play games. I have been to this location many times from smog checks, oil change, engine work, to even auto repair after car accidents and would highly recommend this for everything. In the case of accidents, I have looked around for quotes and, end up coming here because I know my car is in good hands. I have had several cars taken in for repair, a Honda, a Mercedes and, multiple BMW's. Great little shop! I have an older manual transmission car that requires a STAR station and a technician that can drive a manual to test it. I called around to several of the places in my area - none could help me (one lost their STAR, the other didn't have a tech that could drive a stick shift). Laguna Canyon Smog got me in right away and 25 minutes later the test was done! I'll be going back in two years when my smog check is due again. read more

This place was exactly what I was looking for! I called ahead during my lunch hour to make sure that the wait wouldn't be too long. They told me there was a 15 min wait to get a smog check but it turned out to be only a 5 min wait before they started working on my car. The prices are clearly displayed above the counter in the office so there's no confusion. Service was fast and easy and their customer service was great as well. There's a tv and current magazines for you to enjoy while you wait but it only takes 15-20 min for the smog check. Perfect! read more

I have been going here for over ten years. It's close, and he is relatively fast. The waiting room and restroom are clean and air-conditioned. He goes the extra mile to help you out, when you need it. For example, I was stuck at the DMV, and forgot my smog information. I called him and he texted me a photo of it, saving me hours of waiting in lines again. I will always remember that. Someone posted that he charged him, even though the car failed. All shops do that. You pay for the test, pass or fail. read more

We agreed to spending a certain amount of money and he did more then we signed for and forced us to pay. Does good work but a total rip off that they charge for work you don't approve. The cost to troubleshoot the car... 400.00 dollars... The reason, because the computer was reading 4 error codes. And important part of this story is that the Battery light in the car was also solid, but the car was having no problems starting, and the battery was holding a charge just fine. I mentioned that to him, as well as told him I had replaced the battery, the runner controls, the heater hose, and the alternator, as well as all 4 coils in the last 12 months. I was still charged 100 dollars to check each engine code. Then it turns out none of the error codes were accurate because of a bad positive battery line. Gee could the battery light have maybe indicated that would have been a good place to start... especially considering it only takes about 2 minutes to test a battery for a steady connection. The end result, I was then given a quote of 1,600.00 dollars to replace the line. Yes, 1,600 to replace a battery cable...Now to be fair this car for what ever reason was really over engineered and it has a lot of elaborate systems, the positive lead on this car is no exception, but still... 1,600.00 ? He also told me I had a questionable alternator ( alternator was replaced 4 months prior ) The local Ford Dealer quoted me 500.00 to replace the Positive cable, and ended up charging me 300.00 because the labor only went 2 hours instead of the 4 the computer was telling them it could take. The Ford dealer also told me that the cost of troubleshooting a car is a flat 100 dollars regardless of how many codes the car has, and the 100 dollars comes off the price of the repair if you choose to have it done. They also explained to me that is pretty standard procedure among shops. I wont even smog my car here, and I certainly wont recommend this place to anyone. Just because some people in this town have a lot of money, does not mean all of us do, and driving a 2003 ford focus should be proof of that. Discover card not accepted. read more

I walked in approximately at 2 in the afternoon. There were about 3 people ahead of me getting a smog check too but I was in and out in 15 minutes. The orginal price for a smog check is $77 but if you check in on yelp you get $32 off. Regular oil changes are $25 and full synthetic is $80. The regular oil change price is the best I've seen so far in south orange county. read more

We went early on a Saturday morning. We were advised by a friend to arrive early as they can get busy. We had two cars checked. The service staff were very helpful and knowledgable! Excellent service. The service provider recommended walking to nearby Laguna Beach (15 min walk) while we and that he would park the cars for us out front if he finished before we returned. He even told us the location of a beach shuttle in case we didn't want to walk. They were able to notify the DMV directly from the service center that our cars had passed eliminating extra paperwork. It ended up being a very nice Saturday for us. read more
