I got to finally check this place out since my uncle gave us a few range tokens. It took a while to drive up there from the 68. We got to the club house and asked, "Hey, where the heck is the driving range?" because it was nowhere to be seen. "Oh, you take one of those beige carts up the hill." "Sweet." After going the wrong way in the carts, we finally made it up the hill to the driving range. (By the way, the carts are a courtesy and they all have the keys in them.) The driving range had a soda machine, and the range tokens filled up one of the medium buckets to the brim. (They don't have the huge buckets.) Park your cart and get some range balls, then grab a spot. The cool thing about this place - no mats! You hit off the grass, so make sure you have some tees (or be happy hitting off of broken tees). This is pretty cool, and different from all the other places I've been. Just be sure to fill your divots with some of the dirt in the buckets they have around. What was up with the water cooler? It was turned the wrong way, and there were no paper cones. Must not have been used in a long time. Didn't play the course. Maybe some day. Don't want to embarrass myself quite yet. read more

I'll never go there again and I would not recommend it to anyone wanting a fun golf experience on the peninsula. there are plenty of much better courses there. read more

I decided to come here on a good sunny day....i wanted to try out the driving range, i noticed the carts in the parking lot, figured that is how you got to the range. i noticed the sign behind the carts telling that those were for that. i started to back up and a car came around the corner(not the best place for range carts)... anyway i started up the hill and the cart died almost half way up. so i backed down the hill and got anther. once i finally made it up there i realized that you have to get a token or buy a card, so instead of going all the way back down the hill i just went over to the putting area. that was an experience in itself! the traps are like dirt. and the "Greens" arent really green. patchy and no bueno. i then looked around for a restroom, seeing that there was no bathroom up there. i decided to head back down. On my way down the cart really needed work besides the breaks not working great, and the really loose steering wheel, i looked and the tires are balder than howie mandel. i went to stop and i slid about 10ft... oh and watch out for the Squirrels as you are driving up and down from the range... after that i just wanted to leave. read more

I have played this track a lot of times back a few years ago, I am real sad to hear that it has such a bad rap. The last time I played, there where some temp greens, as it was under renovation. (understandable) Trying to make it better. It is sad for me to hear a Trent Jones course, could have slide so far. I think the next time I am in the neighborhood I will give it a try. worst attitude ever in Golf....and at this little course. Wow Pro said my money wasn't worth much to them, just because it was only range balls. Sorry, I'm trying to get back to life after my wife died. I bought their membership last year but the grief just wouldn't let me get out there. So, took a range pass that I paid for last year, they wouldn't accept it. I can actually understand that somewhat, so I paid for range balls. Asked the pro if I could take a cart up the hill to the range, he stated that my $6 wasn't worth much to them. Probably a little short sighted. I've been wanting to play here for a while now, found great deals on golf now. $25 with cart in afternoon. I love the layout of the course and scenery. Beautiful elevated tee shots. I've played pebble beach and nothing compares but Laguna to me was tons of fun. I will absolutely be back!!! I ate that #15 apart!!!! Laid up off the tee and to second fairway, then stuck it close for a tap in birdie!!! Thought id be rusty but shot 78. That #9 long par 4 uphill kicked my butt twice!! I'll be back for revenge on that hole. The driving range is an eye sore but I'm not there to enjoy the range. read more

This Robert Trent Jones course is in great condition. It has one of the only two public practice ranges on the Monterey Peninsula where you practice on grass not artificial mats. It is a challenging course but has been made easier by moving the forward tees up dramatically. read more

It is not a well maintained course. Most of the fairways are brown. There were so many times I had to hit on almost bare dirt which was supposed to be the fairway. The bunkers had small pebbles and rocks in it. Some rakes are broken. This is definitely not worth the price. Pacific Grove course would be a much better deal with view. read more

Beware the Costco Golf Package SCAM with Laguna Seca. I was given a Golf Package from Costco as a Christmas present. http://www.costco.com/Monterey-2-Rounds-Golf-Package-eCertificate.product.100312371.html I see that the package costs $70. This entitles me to a one round of golf at Laguna Seca and one round at DeLaveaga. ("This Certificate is valid for 1 round of golf 18 hole". ) I booked the round of golf using the online booking link on Laguna Seca webpage. Upon arrival at the proshop on Nov 10th, I was told that the Costco Certificate was not valid since I had received a discount on the online booking. WHAT?? Am I entitled to a one round of golf or not, and if so, why would a discount shown at the booking make any difference? According to the proshop employee, you need to book by phoning the proshop, not by booking online and then you can use the certificate. As I pointed out then, if that is the requirement then it should be stated clearly on the certificate. So after driving down from the Bay Area to Monterey you are told your Christmas gift is unusable because of the way you booked the round. It is clear that Laguna Seca has received payment for the round of golf via purchase of the certificate. By refusing to honor the certificate, this is clearly a scam. To be clear, I had used the other part of the package at DeLaveaga and have nothing but good things to say about the staff, course and the members I played with read more

I had not played Laguna Seca since the early 90's. It was about as nice as I remembered, a lot better than some of the reviews I read before we played. It was in good shape, about what you would expect for a Monterey area similar-private Club. The greens had recently been punched which they failed to tell us when we made the reservations. The Staff was OK, not a Quail Lodge, but also not as pricey. I would go back, but would ask about the greens first. The breakfast in the restaurant was good and a fair price. read more

Pretty, challenging course with awesome views. I've golfed here about 4 times and always enjoyed it. The staff at the bar are friendly and the food is decent. However, a big downside is that the snack bar has weird hours and is never open when you're hungry and it only takes cash. Come on, who doesn't take cards these days? This visit, we attempted to eat in the restaurant both before hole 1 and again after the 9th hole and the restaurant is closed at both times with at least 30 cars in the parking lot. We attempted to get drinks and the server can't get the register to work even just to ring for a drink. I complained to the pro shop about the food situation and he says it's not his problem and they are separate entities from the course. I'm sorry, this is ridiculous. I can go to Monterey Pines for the less and the food is much better. There are way too many other places to choose over a place with inconsistent service and no attempt to make the experience a luxury. Golf isn't a cheap sport and I don't think expecting a burger after the 9th hole is unreasonable. I will never golf here again. Lots of other better courses in Monterey with better customer service in this price point. read more

The golf course was ok. The bad part was the service at the bar/restaurant. We go in and order drinks and they take forever to get our order to us. These are only drinks mind you. The finally figure out how to get change and then deliver our beer in a trash bag about 29 min after we ordered. We then make the turn and I ask the waitress/bartender for the fastest thing they have to order. (This was after I waited to hear her stop complaining about her job and the management.) We place the order and she goes outside with a tin foil container in her hand. She drops the box and the tin foil comes out onto the cement. She places the roll back in the container and takes it into the kitchen. About 20 min after she takes our initial order, she comes back out of the kitchen with our hot dogs wrapped in, yep, tin foil. I thin ask her for a refund and we play the next nine holes hungry. I then bring the matter up at the pro shop (guy with close cut hair) and he basically says they know and they are not affiliated with them. (Basically passing the buck). I play quite a bit of golf around the country. This place is by far the worst just based on their kitchen/bar. It's the overall experience that I don't like. A golf course should be relaxing as you enjoy your day. read more

I had an absolute terrible experience here. I played my round which was great but then once I was leaving I put my wallet on top of the roof of the cart and I completely forgot about it. About 20 minutes later once I realized I had misplaced my wallet I immediately called the course. I told them what had happened and I was coming back because I had left my wallet there. The guy who picked up the phone says to "oh okay, I'll have the guys in the cart barn look for it." So I said great and I'm heading back now, knowing it couldn't be anywhere else I turned back and drove there. I get there and go to the pro shop and I ask the guy if they found anything and he says no. So at this point I'm pretty upset because I know for a fact it's there. Anyway so I start following the cart path to the cart barn and I walk in, not a single person in there. So I'm looking for the cart I had and I find it and sure enough there is my wallet. Sitting right on the roof. These guys didn't even bother to look. I find it absolutely ridiculous that they didn't even look for it then had the nerve to lie to me about it. Obviously it was my fault I left my wallet but that's no way to treat a customer. The course was in poor condition other than the greens but the staff is some of the worst I have seen. They are the reason I will never be back. read more

Well to start, the course is not in great condition at all the training facility is decent and the layout is cramped I almost got hit by a ball because of how close the fairways are. Secondly it is pretty expensive for what it is. Lastly, the staff was not very welcoming or friendly, and seemed to be keeping an extra keen eye on me for some reason, (me being Native American, with long hair maybe?) I got a little lost after 9 on my way to 10, a 30 second detour tops, as I'm about to tee off at 10 they had instantly sent someone out to ask me my name and made sure I checked in?....huh? At this point I'm a little annoyed and it just made the round even less enjoyable than it already was. Definitely won't be coming back to this course, when there are so many courses in the area that are a great magnitude better than this one, certainly a waste of money, and I almost never say money on golf is wasted. read more

I have played this course a few times before and had good experiences. However, this time the staff drove out to my group on the 15th fairway and asked us to leave because we were the only group on the the course and they wanted to go home. I'm appalled at their laziness! We had 3 more holes to go and no one in front of us. At the max they would have waited 45 minutes for us to finish up. On top of that we payed full rate and weren't even offered a partial refund. It's my belief that when a customer pays for a service that service is rendered. This is one of the worst customer service experiences I have ever had and I will not return to this course nor will I recommend it to anyone. read more

Laguna Seca Golf Ranch is a fun and challanging course in Monterey, CA. Had a blast playing in a lush, perfectly maintained, no-brown spots golf course. The green fee is most reasonable compare to other local courses, not to mention the cart is included as part of the green fee (check for special). Had to drive a hour plus to get to the course and I will continue doing so. My friend and I both cannot find anything negative to say about the condition, the layout and the staffing of the course. The course is not particularly long, barely exceeding 6,000 yards. Perfect for intermediate players. Finished the course in less than 4 hours. Wasn't crowded at all, even on Weekend. read more

Played LS for the first time Saturday morning April 27/13 paid $45.00 each through GolfNow. including cart. My wife (8hcp) and I(18hcp) both played off the white tees and found the course very interesting and challenging. We were on our way back to Canada after playing in Palm Springs area, the Central Coast and other course in the Monterey area. We found the greens difficult to read and moderately fast - well bunkered. This was the only issue we had - most of the traps were not maintained and it was like hitting off cement. Unfortunately I had lots of opportunity to test my tecnique whereas my wife had little difficulty staying out of them. Staff were very friendly and we played in about 4 hours which we considered excellent given the Sat a.m. tee time. Found it a bit unusual they let 3 two-somes go out in a row without pairing anyone up but it didnt seem to slow things down. We'd play it again...... read more

My husband and I played this course two weeks ago and like the layout. Several holes were pretty quirky and there was a fair amount of road noise, but for the price, it was a pleasant outing. However, they use TOO MUCH WATER. The course was very green, and quite squishy. There was very little roll. For several years golf course management has been trending to "fast and firm" conditions, as it saves water and money, and is more fun to play. I hope they and their sister course Rancho Canada Golf Club become more environmentally conscious and start conserving water. read more

We just played here recently; this course needs a marshall, or at least a better starter. The first 9 was fine, but we caught up to the 3-some in front of us on 10, then were backed-up 3 groups on the 13th tee when we decided to call it quits. It was too cold to wait 20 minutes to tee off. Driving the rest of the holes, it was log-jammed all the way. We started around noon and probably wouldn't have finished until after 6:00 the way it was going. Other than that, I agree that the front 9 is unremarkable, but the back did look interesting - from the cartpath. read more

I played today and found the course to be not in the very best of condition. The greens were lumpy and bumpy and bear in spots. The bunker had little to no loose sand in many of them and contained rocks, rocks and more rocks. Some the size of a silver dollar. I play with a organization that visits Laguna Seca periodically and I can say that the course held no surprises as regards condition. It was poor. read more

I have been playing here for over 23 years, and I have NEVER seen the course in. This bad of shape in all my life. The greens are in absolutely horrendous condition. There are a lot of weeds growing in the green and they are bumpy as heck. It looks like pineapple weed in the green and there are some patches that are easily 8-12" in diameter. It's as if they have given up on the course as these weeds need to be cut out by hand when they are small. There are also dead spots in some of the greens as well. The fairways are loaded with English daisy and kikuyu grass. Then the worst insult of all. My buddies are mini members and paid $62 with cart with their discount. I paid around $90 with a cart. After we got to the 2nd hole, they were pissed and I was absolutely disgusted with what we had shelled out, only to find out that golf now was selling tons of tee times at $48 with a cart. Wouldn't you think that members should at least get the same break as golf now? I will never go back to Laguna SECAM due to this experience. I know courses are hurting these days, but never sacrifice the shape of the golf course. They are doing significant long term harm to the golf course. I could have played bayonet/black horse for the money I shelled out here. To add insult to injury, the pro shop is headed up by a grouchy rude guy that runs the place. BEWARE GOLFERS, save your money and go to one of the many other options on the peninsula for quality affordable golf. read more

I have this course twice in the last six months and after each round promised not to come back. Although the course layout is enjoyalbe, the staff and course conditions are BAD. First the staff. While not overtly surly, staff treat you as a stranger on the street not a valued paying customer. Don't know what is going on with the greens but they are unputtable in certain areas. It's great to have a five footer with a bit of break and see three or four lengths of grass in your line. Very unsettling! Also, after riding on the disintegrating carts paths all day, my back felt like I was on a four-wheeling excursion. All of these things wouldn't be so bad if the fees were in line with course conditions and staff professionalism. Fees with cart approach $70-$85 level; I expect better accomodations for that money. Only golf there on a GN deal or if you are just beginning and don't know the difference between puttable and unputtable greens. PS: sad part of this whole story is that staff believe bumpy, diseased, 3" diameter sand scars and the such are normal greens as the head pro stated to me, "There is nothing wrong with our greens, they are great." No sir, they are not!!! read more
