BBQ Jerk chicken, rice and peas and yams

Based on my first experience I give them a 3 but I would go back. I would just order something different this time. I ordered the BBQ Jerk Chicken. It was ok but I wouldn't order it again. I also ordered fried plantain and they gave me broiled plantains, the portions were cool so no complaints there. There will be a 2nd part to this review when I visit again.

Food was very good. The price was pretty reasonable and the amount of food is not bad at all. This is not my first time, and it won't be my last. I highly recommend. If you're in the mood for Caribbean to go by here you will not be disappointed and the location is definitely a plus.

The small little Belmont neighborhood tucked between Plaza Midwood and NoDA gained another amazing restaurant. Only steps away from Ace No 3 and Bottle and Bloom, you can now get authentic Jamaican food. We have been twice in the last 2 weeks because the food and service is just that good. The jerk sauce is out of this world. The cabbage and greens are flavorful, the Mac and cheese is juicy and the Patties are to die for! I tried the curry chicken and the beef Patty and I couldn't tell you which one was better. They also have a back patio and a popular take out counter. Add this delicious new place to your list of places to eat!

    Beef Patties

Based on the mixed reviews, I think the quality of the food depends on when you visit. I went on a Sat, the place was completely empty, and none of the food was fresh. They also forgot some of my order so I had to go back and get the missing items. The patty was super stale and had very little meat in it. The jerk chicken tasted old as well and so it went right in the trash along with the rice and peas. I was determined to salvage something so I ate the mac & cheese and plantains but both were mediocre. As a fellow Caribbean, I was really hoping to find my go to spot, but I'll have to keep searching.

The food is very good and the staff is super friendly. I have been to this restaurant 3x and all 3x the food was the same-Tasty. I had the jerk chicken with a spice level of "spicy", they do ask you what spice level you prefer. Let's say my sinuses were open soooo mission accomplished. My sides were collard greens the first 2x and cabbage on my 3x and I must say the collards are a winner winner, the cabbage was good (rate-3 of of 5 stars) but I'll forever get the collard greens. The coco bread was quite good as well. I've been looking for a good Jamaican spot.

Great food great people! This Jamaican spot just opened a block away from Ace No 3 and Sweet Lew's and it's out of this world! It's the first place to be redeveloped on the corner of Pegram and Belmont, but it's worth taking a walk over. The owner is so nice! It seems like it's mainly a takeout spot at the moment, but they are working on having a cool outdoor patio, a pool table and more that will be jumping once they have their liquor license. But enough fluff: how's the food? It's AMAZING! The best Jamaican food I've had since visiting Jamaica on vacation. The Jerk Chicken is smoked perfectly and served with rice and peas and your choice of more sides! The Jerk Chicken is served sauced, which to me is the best possible way to eat it. The sides are great too: greens, cabbage, Mac & cheese, plantains and more! They also have beef patties and authentic Jamaican sodas. Once this place serves Red Stripe you won't be able to get me off their back patio while the chef smokes more chicken and Reggae music is bumping!

Oxtails with Mac & Cheese and Candied Yams

I got the Oxtails with Mac & Cheese and Yams for probably the best price for the quality in the entire city, I don't wanna consider myself a regular but i'm for sure not gonna stop coming here, i've recommended this spot to a lot of my people and rest assured none have been disappointed!

I will start by saying that this place is now serving dog food. The food was absolutely disgusting…read more- everything was hard, dry, and burnt, including the cake! Absolutely zero "F's" were given in the food preparation. The textures were appalling, as if the food had been scorched and then left out for hours before serving. The only remotely edible thing was the cold, burnt plantains, but even those were barely tolerable. I kept biting into gritty bits that I couldn't even identify as food, which made me seriously question the safety of what I was eating. If I had access to a lab, I would submit it to see what I'd [really] been served. I ended up throwing my entire meal in the garbage. To top it off, they've changed the name of the place, which just raises even more red flags. I can't help but wonder why they felt the need to do that. It's a waste of money, time, hope and food to ever go here. They disrespected the life of the poor chicken who died for this wretched soot seasoned, curry chicken slop. If my husband or anyone suggested this place I would seriously consider throwing hands. It doesn't matter what they are calling it now. Do yourself a favor and stay far, far away from this place.

I was introduced to this place by my mom she would rant and rave about how delicious the food is…read moreand she wasn't wrong! Since moving to the Carolina's from up North I wasn't sure what to expect. I've have both dined in as well as carry out and the experience is always pleasant. I've had a few things from the menu but my favorite is the oxtail roti; It's a bit costly but well worth it as the meat is super tender, flavorful and the roti is pack full of meat. I also love the rice/ peas with the brown gravy and drinks are always phenomenal I've learned depending on the time of day you may be waiting for a bit but it's well worth it as everything is fresh, hot and made to order. The service/staff very friendly and helpful when it comes to ordering. The ambiance is upbeat, very clean and vibrant I wish I got a picture of my meal but somehow never makes it because it's that delicious

On a recent trip to Rock Hill, I stopped in at Island Grill & Pub to enjoy dinner…read more Although it was very cold outside, as soon as we walked in, we felt like we were immediately transported to a neighborhood cookshop in Port Antonio! The cashier was sweet and personable. She was multitasking, but still managed to be fully engaged in the service she provided to us. She kindly let us know what items were sold out for the day and also gave us time to look over the menu and decide on our order without making us feel rushed. While we waited for our food to arrive, we noticed a steady flow of customers all the way until closing time! It's clear Island Grill & Pub is a local favorite. The food is packaged up to go, but there are plenty of tables to dine-in once you have your food...and a big screen with movies and Jamaican music playing in the background to keep you entertained. The wait for the food is a bit long...but EVERYTHING came out very fresh, very authentic, and worth the wait. The portions were plentiful, the food was flavorful and seasoned well, and the items were priced well for the value. What we ordered: - Small Jerk Chicken plate with rice & peas and cabbage - Jerk Chicken pasta - Side order of Macaroni and cheese We wish we lived closer, so we could visit Island Grill & Pub regularly, but it's definitely on our list any time we travel to the Rock Hill area!
