FIRST TIME VISIT! Walked in on a whim after a bday dinner for the hubby at the Texas Roadhouse. I was in search of a sweet treat to celebrate at home and boy, was I ever in for a treat! THE LOCATION: in a bustling and popular shopping center with tons of parking, and other fun businesses, right off the 1604 in the Alamo Ranch area. I have no idea what to expect so I just burst thru the doors like I owned the joint ready to embrace something new. THE MENU: aside from some lovely beverages, the dessert offerings are pretty straightforward. CHEESECAKE!!! And in the best possible, gourmet, decadent way. My eyes were popping out of my head! THE SERVICE: Lucky for me, a very patient gentleman behind the counter was available to assist me during a lull. I'm very grateful for the time he took to answer all my questions. THE GOODS: I knew I wanted cheesecake tonight, but after watching those sweet treats watching me right back through a shield of glass, I understood that I NEEDED cheesecake, and stat! While there were sooo many flavors available in the jars, I wanted to eat cheesecake the traditional way; with a fork to slowly dissect and discover the flavors and texture of each layer. By all appearances, these treats are not your average cheesecake and I'm so intrigued. I choose one slice of each flavor available. At $9 per slice, I'm lucky there were only 3 flavors at this hour. Lol! The jars, btw, are $7 each. Now, I had to ask what ingredients were in each flavor becs there is no written description anywhere in the store. The names do no justice in identifying what you're getting either. Names like "Summer Daze" and "Midnight Berry" leave much to the imagination. Sure, you can see chocolate and/or raspberries, but believe me... you don't really know what treasure you've got until it's melting on your tongue. I can't get home quick enough to meet up with the hubby again. Yayyyyyy! Dessert!!! THE TASTES: Heaven. Nirvana. Jack standing at the bow, arms stretched wide shouting, "I'm the king of the world!" That. That's what it's like. And I literally dissected and analyzed each lovely layer, mostly fluffy, decadent mousse, creamy, cheesy and rich. The crust bottoms. Holy smokes! I actually avoid graham cracker crusts but not this one. A-MAZING. Another slice had a crisp shortbread-like crust. Like, WHO DOES THAT?! Omg. I gorged until I regretted rushing in. Total amateur move. I also secretly selected 2 of the 3 slices that I knew my hubby would turn his nose up to. HAHAHAHAHA! Joke's on him. Trust me. Seriously, trust me. If you love cheesecake, mousse, fresh and tart fruit flavors (like fresh fruits and lemon curd!), give a slice or jar a try. And try a lovely match drink, too. Maybe I'll see you there! read more

4.75 stars Okkkk so Laika always shows up in my Yelp feed but it always seemed so far away. I just so happened to be in culebra commons to grab a bubble tea & to what do my eyes see? Laika! We waltzed right in and were immediately greeted warmly. The staff were so patient, didn't hover/make you feel pressured, and answered all of our questions. While it may seem a bit pricey, it's actually not bad cuz you get to keep the glass jar ($7/ jar). my youngest loved her cheesecake & she doesn't even like cheesecake. The matcha was okay, I don't think i'd come back for the matcha, this was my first time trying a drink from laika, I usually just get the cheesecake. The first was a Carmel toffee banana cheesecake which was really good except I'm not a Carmel type of person so I didn't enjoy that part of it but otherwise really good. The next one was a blueberry lemon cheesecake which hit the spot especially is you're a blueberry lemon type of person. The jars one was triple chocolate the best one in my opinion it did have white chocolate as the top layer which I did not enjoy but the other layers were fantastic. Lastly there was a "spaceship" cheesecake and that one was a plane cheesecake with blueberry compote on top. Slices were $9 jars were $7. You take 10 jars back to them and get one free. What an adorable establishment! Unfortunately, we arrived late and only had 4 options. The space jam cheesecake and strawberry cheesecake were delicious! They are served in cute little Mason jars that you can keep. (I understand if you return 10 clean jars you get a free cheesecake??? Call first to check.) Food: 100/100 I absolutely love and adore cheesecake of course the classic NY Cheesecake is always my favorite. I recently picked up Toffee Nut 8/10 for me it was a little too sweet but still good. This would be perfect for the end to a night. They also have coffee which I've never tried. The staff is always great about answering questions about flavors and good with recommendations. Mango matcha is sooo good! So unique and tasty! Normally I don't finish my drinks but I couldn't stop sipping on this! It was a great balance of sweet mango and matcha flavor, you can taste both! I definitely think this is 100% better than any other matcha or strawberry matcha versions. There's a lot of hype on strawberry matcha lately but this is way better!!! This place sells dessert, mainly cheesecake in small single serve jars but they also had other items. flavors change weekly. You can also collect jars and turn in for recycling and get discount. I picked the toffee turtle and others in my group picked cookies and cream and space jam all were excellent and I highly recommend the toffee turtle if you like caramel. Small place on a shared strip mall and shared parking lot. Staff was friendly and helpful and took their time to answer all questions These small jars are perfect size for single serve. Just updating my review with still 5 stars!! And adding more of the things we love about it since frequenting for a while. The fresh ingredients and amazing flavors are just the tip of the iceberg. We still love the size of the cheesecake jars they are a perfect portion size -- not too much and not too little. That's our go-to. We love the variety of flavors and trying new ones every so often. The best new one we tried was Dubai chocolate! My favorites usually are Space Jam (this def is top for me), Space Monkey (when they have it!), Key Lime, and Pot of Gold (for you Nutella Lovers). My hubby loves the Cookies and Cream, Triple Chocolate, and Ferrero. We love the staff, they are so kind and always remember us when we come in. We love that they reuse the cheesecake jars! We bring them back in and for every 10 jars we bring back we get one free cheesecake jar. The coffee is also still fabulous. We finally made it to Laika Cheesecake and Espresso last Sunday (sorry for the late posting) to try their "famous" cheesecakes. The place truly has an "out of this world" vibe--and so do the prices! The selection was limited, which I think is intentional to avoid waste or possibly due to a fundraiser they had going on that day (October 20). Still, I was happy to see they offered a sugar-free/gluten-free NY strawberry cheesecake. It was delicious and guilt-free, with an almond crust that had a nice marzipan flavor. As tasty as it was, though, the price was steep for what felt like a tiny kid-sized portion. My cousin tried the "Picnic in Space" cheesecake. It was extremely sweet, but the big blueberries on top were refreshing. The lemon curd, however, was so tart it was almost too much--maybe it's meant to balance the sweetness of the cheesecake itself. Overall, the cheesecake here cannot be compared to NY cheesecakes, I should know, I used to live and work in NY/NJ, perhaps the price is comparable...oops! The café looks spotless, like it just opened, but we noticed the table next to ours was left dirty with crumbs on the table and the floor. It wasn't very crowded, either--just us, another older lady, and a few people who came in for takeout. There were only two staff members, both nice enough, but I have to give a special mention to Grace, who served us and checked us out. She was warm and pleasant. The other staff member wasn't as friendly and seemed more interested in chatting up a younger customer while we were leaving. Overall, I docked a star for the pricey treats and that small customer service hiccup. Maybe I'm not the target demographic here! But hey, I've tried and tasted their cheesecakes now. Second visit - we have not been able to stop dreaming of their cheesecake in a jar. The customer service both visits have been top notch. My daughter got the "Alice in Wonderland" (chocolate and raspberry with chocolate crust) I decided on the "apple and fig". Mine was like talking a bite of my grandmas fresh apple cobbler. All the flavors hit perfectly! We also got drinks today. She opted for the Lavender Lemonade. She enjoyed it but was hoping for a little more lavender. I enjoyed a "Poison Apple Matcha" (iced). It's a seasonal drink. For 2 cheesecakes and 2 drinks plus tip it cost about 25$. Well worth it! Don't forget that you bring back 10 of their jars with the lids for 1 free jarred dessert! They're open 10am-10pm. We noticed today that the store front made it looked closed. I would really suggest they do something to brighten the windows and get more attention. There is a sign above - but when you pull up there is nothing that tell you it's open. It would be more noticeable from the street also. Make the stop - you won't regret it! read more

I live out of the service area for this restaurant. I recently ordered a cheesecake but was not able to pick it up on the expected date, due to an emergency situation. I provided 2 ways to contact me on the order form. I was not contacted by the store with notification that my cheesecake would be tossed out after a certain amount of time. When I went to the store to pick up the cheesecake, they told me that they had tossed it out. They did not offer to replace the cheesecake I specifically ordered, they denied my refund request, and they hung up on me on the phone. This is the worst customer service experience that I have ever had. read more

I haven't been inside yet, but the cheesecake is pretty good! My coworker always brings them for our birthdays and holidays as gifts so I've tried quite a few differently flavors. The cheesecake comes in jars and there are several flavors you can try. The cheesecake itself is very creamy and rich with a lot of additional ingredients mixed in perfectly. Most of the flavors I've tried have been variations of chocolate (one had chunks in it, one was almost all chocolate, some have oreo inspired flavors) and variations of strawberry (one had honey, another had pistachio, one was mixed with graham crackers). Every type I've tried is bursting with flavor and leaves no doubt with what you're tasting. If they call something "strawberry field" then that's just what you'll feel you're eating. I've heard if you bring the jars back you get a discount, but I haven't ventured inside the store yet to actually try that out. read more

Brought my teenage son, and now he wants to come here regularly too. Tried peach crisp and wow, that is like a combination of peach cobbler and a peach crisp. Laika is such a special place! I believe they offer the best cheesecakes around, plus they offer them by the slice or a smaller glass jar option. There are typically more flavor options by the jar, which is fun to pick up a six pack and try 6 different flavors (plus 6 jars is slightly discounted in price). Today I purchased a tres leche latte and a toffee turtle cheesecake jar. The coffee is strong and lightly sweet and the cheesecake is always incredible (good luck choosing one flavor)! I'm so thrilled to have a location on the north side. A colleague introduced me to the Laika offerings a while ago. I kept telling my colleague I don't like cheesecake and I'm not going to like this place. I am so glad she kept pushing for me to try it because every dessert they make is absolutely delicious. Such a neat café! Former coffee shop and specialty tea shop barista here! I've been dying to try out Laika and finally made the trip over to this space themed café to try out a couple of their matcha lattes. The atmosphere was so much fun and was so cool, a very urban café with an astro/space twist. There were tons of neon lights and star and galaxy patterns on the wallpaper, ceiling tiles, and floors themselves in every part of the shop, including the exceptionally clean bathroom complete with funky shaped mirrors that worked so well with the theme. The music they were playing inside was eclectic but kept with the vibe of the store, and the baristas were pretty quick with all of the cheesecake and beverage orders while we were there. We ordered two Matcha Lattes, one Iced with Whole Milk and the other Hot with Oat Milk. We were pretty disappointed with what we received unfortunately. The problem was they didn't really taste like matcha beverages. Mine was pretty enjoyable as a drink, but as a matcha drink it fell completely short. It tasted heavily of Oat Milk and faintly of matcha. It was crafted exceptionally well; it was creamy, well blended, and had an excellent foamy layer on top, but I really had to search for that matcha taste. I think if they had just added more it could have been a fantastic drink. We are also fairly convinced that they got the Iced Matcha Latte with Whole Milk order wrong. Instead of the creamy whole milk richness we were expecting, it tasted like we were drinking liquid Chex Mix cereal. We saw that there was a special Matcha Latte with Cereal Milk on their menu and believe that's what we received instead of one with whole milk. The Chex Mix taste was so overbearing that we could not taste the matcha in the slightest and it's a shame because it too was crafted really well. We will most definitely be returning to Laika to try out their cheesecake and hot cocoa, but our disappointment in what we tried is admittedly making us a little bit less excited to do so. Maybe it was an off day for them or maybe they just aren't as good at making their matcha as good as their coffee, but as someone who's worked in the industry I believe that if you're offering it on your menu, you should know how to make it. Five stars for service and environment, three stars on the Oat Milk Latte, and 1 star on the Iced Matcha Latte. read more

The cheesecakes here are super yummy and the drinks are equally delicious. I got the key lime cheesecake and it was the perfect amount of sour to sweet. I also got to try the NY cheesecake and the tres leches cheesecake and both were equally just as good. The tres leches was probably my favorite and it was not too sweet. The strawberry jam on the new york was fruity and tested fresh. The seaside cold brew was creamy, smooth, and a bit chocolatey. The cereal milk matcha latte was absolutely delicious and was not grainy at all. It's also a nice study spot although it can get a little noisy with the traffic coming through. read more
