Well , i went for smog test , my check engine WAS NOT on, i figured he would do, the exhaust check, etc....first , no he does the computer one !!!! It came up , with different things , saying i needed whatever !!!??? I told him , why wdnt u , do the exhaust check ( with the item u put in there ) anyway, it didnt pass and he still charged me , 31.00 , which isn't ok. And i did ask, " is it free when i come back ?? " he said , no . He should only charge me , the 8.25 for certificate if i come back. And he did say , go drive it 50 miles , to test check engine lite , OF COURSE it came back on , when i got to 14 miles away !!! but i still feel he should of did that exhaust check, with his equipment, WHILE my check engine lite was off !!!! read more

Since I was bringing in a car I had jumped recently, he tested the battery for free to let me know I had to drive it more before coming back for the smog check. Fast and friendly service. I just dropped in without an appointment and was greeted quickly and given very courteous and fast service for a smog check. The gentleman who ran the test submitted the results to the CA. DMV and gave me the paper copy. I was in and out in about 15 minutes. Lake Smog Test offered an online coupon, through their website, for the test and including taxes it was just under $40. They take debit cards as payment. Fast, efficient, and professional. This location shares spaces with a mechanic shop, so it may be a bit hard to miss if you're driving by. Just pull into the mechanic shop and pull straight forward and BOOM you make it to the Smog. Once you pull into the mechanic shop it is easier to distinguish. Report can be sent to the DMV immediately. Check the website for the online coupon. This man is totally reasonably priced even without the coupon honestly. No appointments are necessary. Trust me you do not need one he is great. There is a small shaded waiting area off to the side for customers to wait (nice touch). Do not be turned off by the excessive cars that may be present as this location as stated is shared with a mechanic shop so the bunch of cars you see will most likely be for the mechanic shop. The wait time has never surpassed 30 minutes if that. Great service, I definitely recommend visiting this place if you're in need of a smog test. read more

I recently came here with my 2003 Dodge Dakota for a smog test. It was a very quick and informative experience with the owner (I believe his name is Henrik). Unfortunately, my Dakota failed the smog test due to "P0421 CATALYST 1 EFFICIENCY BELOW THRESHOLD BANK 1." Henrik explained what might be the problem and suggested that I go see several mechanics and get some different quotes and to make sure they check the oxygen sensors. I then took it to three different shops and all of them quoted me between $1600 and $2000 to replace both the converters and the oxygen sensors. I was skeptical that I had to replace everything but all three mechanics were pretty up front that it all needed fixing. On a last ditch effort to find an alternative, I went back to the smog test station to chat with Henrik and see if he had any advice. He talked me through it all and suggested I give Campos Auto Service a try (it's next door) and he literally walked me next door to Campos and carefully explained the situation to the owner or manager of Campos. In the end, Campos fixed an exhaust leak in the manifold and replaced the pipe after the muffler and it was only $305. It was passed the second smog test and I was on my way. But I wanted to write a review for this smog station because Henrik was over the top helpful and sympathetic to my problem and really slowed down enough to help me out. I have been a customer here for 10 years and highly recommend. Open early and very clean shop. He built a nice shaded waiting area. I had a Starbucks with me and the LA Times to pass the 5 minutes. Yes, once your car hits the bay you are there around 5 minutes. Henrik explains the paperwork and applies a discount. He always seems to appreciate your business which is why you go back. He recently moved here on Washington which is a couple blocks WEST of the old location. Will be back again in 2 years and for as long as we have gasoline powered engines in California!! read more

Service was fast and friendly. I really appreciate that they got me in same-day. I hate to think this about any business, but....during the test my car hood latch broke. I brought a car with a latching hood in, and left with a car with a hood that wouldn't latch at all. They have a repair shop in the same building, but I was a little weirded out so I went somewhere else. Took my car to a different repair shop, and they found that a single piece of the locking/latching mechanism had miraculously fallen off. I didn't tell that mechanic anything about the circumstances of the latch breaking. But he told me it was very odd, because a single spring had somehow fallen off of the latching mechanism, but was still sitting in the hood completely undamaged. The whole thing is just fishy to me. How does a piece just fall off of a car, after it's been working fine for 10 years? Without damaging the piece that falls off or the mechanism it falls off of? read more

I was running up against the deadline to smog my car, and could only leave home at 5:30pm after my telework day. I started for a different place that advertised being open until 6 but found out, as I rolled down my road, that the other one closed at 5:30 - plus I realized I forgot my paperwork. Losing a precious 8 minutes to turn around to pick it up, I searched for another place that was open and close to me. I called Lake Smog Test Only to see if he would take me if I got there in 15 minutes (ETA 5:55 pm) and he said yes if I actually made it by then. I managed to get there by 5:45 - it was a lot closer than I realized - and there he was, quietly sitting in the back of his garage. My car passed the smog test and I received my paperwork, hard copy of what he submitted online - and I was on my way out the door before 6pm. YAY!!!
