We'd been to the LakeView House previously. We thought it was pretty good. This time it was off. It's a delightful setting, lakeside looking west into nice sunsets. The first time our meal was quite nice and well-served. This time service was very slow, a full two hours by the time we got our entrees. Eating outside there was no light by the time our meals came. Could barely see our meals. I was supposed to have sole with lobster stuffing. There may have been lobster in it but I could neither see it or taste it. The sole may have been just sole skin. My wife's duck was not the sliced breast we're accustomed to but a duck thigh that was particularly hard to get at any meat, aggravated by lack of light. As we were wrapping up, suddenly outdoor lights came on. If we go back we'll hope for a better experience. read more

Very disappointed. I haven't been there in a long time because the last time I went there I didn't think highly of it. I figured I would try it again because many friends gave good reviews... so we went to celebrate my mother's birthday. Once again, very disappointed and won't be going there again. Great location. Very overpriced for the service and quality of food. We ordered two orders of the salmon, one short rib, and one strip steak (medium). I was told the salmon was okay, maybe slightly overlooked. Was told the short ribs were good. My steak was well done and not plated well. It was just the steak on a plate. The sauce came separate in a small bowl. Everyone was finished with their meals by the time the server came back to check on things. At that time I told her my steak was overdone. She immediately left the table... ?? She can be back and ask if I'd like a new one. So I said yes and asked for medium rare this time. She then brought another steak. I cut into it and once again it wasn't prepared right. This time it was raw. Just the outside was seared. The customer service was severely lacking. They offered something else, but at this time it was way too much time sitting at the table. Everyone else was done with their meal and I didn't want to wait any longer for them to prepare another meal and then for me to eat and keep everyone else waiting. This quaint off the beaten path restaurant is full of beauty and breath taking views of Orange Lake. I was so happy that after a year of living in my new neighborhood, I finally got to come check out this place! I will most definitely be back. The restaurant has a beautiful glass wall that looks out on to the lake. My husband and I came for restaurant week and were pretty pleased with everything- the service and ambiance were 5 stars! Our server was extremely attentive and pleasant. To that matter the entire staff was- everyone we had an interaction with was very nice. Now for the food! We started off with some amazing appetizers. I had the French Onion Soup that had the most perfect browned cheese top and delicious onions and broth on the inside. My husband had the meatballs with spinach which were also fantastic. I loved the red artichoke sauce that topped the meatballs. They were well seasoned, crispy on the outside, and soft on the inside. We were super excited to get our entrees at this point. I ordered the steak with green beans and potato fritter. The steak was cooked a nice medium and the sauce that topped it- some type of blue cheese butter was delicious. I was slightly disappointed with the greens beans which needed more salt and potatoes which had a strange gritty/ grainy consistency. My husband had the duck ravioli. He thought it was okay. The sauce was very thin and needed more seasoning. The lack of seasoning was what brought this down to a 4. The dessert was incredible! If I was reviewing that alone it would have been 5 stars! We had mudd pie. I wasn't sure what to expect but holy cow it went above and beyond!! It was an Oreo crust with a chocolate ice cream center, a top layer of fudge, all topped with whipped cream!! Yummm!! It was the best dessert I've had in a while! We also had a chocolate flourless cake which was also just as decedent! Researches best steakhouses in Hudson county and this came up. Lived up to the 5 star reviews. Ribeye was excellent. Wife enjoyed her burger. Friendly service. Only knock on the place - we couldn't get through trying to make a reservation so we took a chance and showed up at 4:45pm and were fine. It's worth risking it to show up vs giving up if you can't make an appointment- just show up early. read more

This used to be one of my favorite places to go to dinner with my husband. I had made reservations a week ago because we wanted a treat. When I made my reservation I was not told they were hosting a wedding (or some kind of large party) and there would be a possibility of slower service. We had to walk through the big room in the middle (where you guessed it, the wedding party was going on) I felt bad interrupting these people's special day walking through to go to our table. We were seated in the sunroom which was fine. We ordered drinks, my husband had a beer and asked for a cold glass.. nope it was warm (no big deal to me) but when he finished his beer after a few moments he had asked the server for another, it never came, we asked the manager, still never came, we had to ask 3 times and almost a half hour later it came (not cool). We ordered appetizers and our food at that time. Apps came out within a 20 minute time frame.. ok not bad they were spot on. Salad came out a half hour after that ..... umm ok? When we got Our food it was very good and worth the wait, until we found a hair in the potatoes . Then management sad one of the loudest and crudest table next to us, it wouldn't have been bad if there wasn't 10 drunk loud obnoxious people right on top of us. I told management that this was the worst dining experience I've ever had so they moved us outside near the burning pot away from them, which would've been ok if it wasn't cold out . read more

Doesn't look like much when you drive by.... so my advice is keep driving. The best thing about the place is the view and the staff. The food: I do not recommend. The lobster/crab cakes were like the ocean (good and bad) in patty form, like quality fish mush from the lake out back. Just a lil more lobster and crab and a lil less mayo tarter. I've been to LakeView House many times and have never gotten around to writing a review. I've had some excellent experiences here and then I've had some average times as well. I like LakeView House primarily because the waitstaff has ALWAYS been stellar, each and EVERY time. And the view is just lovely, of course. My difference of opinion lies with the food. Sometimes superb, other times there are issues. For instance, when I dined here last a couple of weeks ago, I ordered a couple of martinis. The salted caramel rim had WAY too much salt on it- YUCK! Almost sent me into a coughing fit. Adding salt to the rim of a glass needs to be done ever so delicately. In addition, my refreshing salad greens were drowned in a pool of creamy dressing. WAY too much dressing! And lastly, my butternut squash raviolis (Sichuan pasta) were over-loaded with so much nutmeg to the point that they tasted more like spiced pumpkin-filled pasta pouches. I was absolutely not enjoying them (but the accompanying filet mignon tips were outstanding) that I ended up taking them home and eventually throwing them out because I couldn't bring myself to eat them - and I hate wasting food, but that's just how strong the spices were in the filling. The accompanying sauce was supposed to be a "spicy Asian cream sauce" but was more like a thinner brown sauce that had a overall odd flavor to it. I do hope that my next visit yields a more satisfying experience with the food and cocktails. read more

My mother and I went to Lake View House for restaurant week, The photos of the place looked really cute, and we both had wanted to try it for a while. We arrived around six, and it was already getting crowded, but we were seated right away. Service was excellent, and our waitress was so sweet & our orders were taken quickly & warm bread was brought to our table. So far so good. I had gotten the octopus appetizer & my mother got the goat cheese croquettes. I had never tried octopus before, but it was very tasty, though the presentation was a bit sloppy. The menu said it came with crispy potatoes & i had varying sizes of cooked potato chunks on my plate, it looked like someone just smashed a baked potato and plated it. My mothers appetizer was plated very well & i tried some of her appetizer - which was also very good. And then the meal came. I got the grilled flap steak & my mother ordered eggplant rollatini. Now, let me first say that we picked this place over others that night BECAUSE of the rollatini, it's one of my mothers favorite dishes and she gets it whenever she can. What came out of the kitchen looked like pure slop. Honestly, I am angry that I didn't get a photo- it was a dim room & crowded so i didn't want to be "that person" snapping flash photos of my food, so just believe that this looked like a pigs slop plate full of brown mush. My food was plated better, but again not what you'd expect from a restaurant. My snap peas just had some butter on them, my "smashed potato" looked like someone just dropped it on the floor and plated it. The steak was ok, but nothing I would rave about. My mothers rollatini however was gross. It looked, smelled and tasted disgusting. It was oily, flavorless and tasted nothing like rollatini. I have never seen my mother send a meal back, but she could not eat it. The waitress again was so kind, and quickly took it back and brought my mother the menu to place a new order. She ordered the chicken instead, which was better - but again nothing notable to bring me back a second time. TLDR: Go for drinks and appetizers if you venture here. It's on a lake so it's a pretty place, and service was excellent. Meals, however, look and taste like something a child would make. read more

The food and scenic view here is amazing. I ended up having clam chowder, fried calamari, and pork tenderloin. All of it was delicious.

Good food but it took forever. Must be a "dining experience" I'm done this place sucks.

Wish they had more vegetarian options, couldn't really have much here unfortunately, and it is pricey. Maybe worth it for seafood people

We have been there several times and always had good food and service sowe shocked at how awful both were today. I spite of being there when they started serving lunch, and only two or three other tables occupied, we waited an hour and ten minutes for our food. That was after askingng twice for it. Several other tables came in, ate, and left while we were waiting. Two of us ordered simple cheeseburgers one rare and one medium rare. When they came one had no cheese and both were well done. I complained to the manager and she said she would have the kitchen make two more since it only takes five minutes to cook a hamburger!!! Guess what? Next two were both well done. And they did not taste like meat cardboard instead. We are sure they were Beyond Burgers or another plant based substance. We should have complained after the second round but just wanted to leave after an hour and forty five minutes. We will never go back even though the view is beautiful. Too bad. read more

Awesome experience! The setting, the food and the service were top notch. We were there for a First Communion lunch for my niece. The location and the views are beautiful. Sometimes, however, there is a resulting tradeoff in the quality of the food...you can have one, or the other. At least in my experience. Not at this place. Showed up for a 8PM reservation at 750, and were told our table would be ready shortly, so my wife & I took a walk down by the water to check out the scenery (which is very nice). Walked back up to the restaurant at 8, and were told again our table would be ready shortly. At this point I couldn't help notice they had at least 8 empty tables (I stopped counting at 8, because you get the idea). So I am assuming we didn't sit due to wait staff issues, but nothing was mentioned. We were finally sat at 825, by 840 no waiter/waitress had come by to take an order for drinks or food and we decided we did not want to waste any more of our Friday night and/or eat our dinners after 930 so we got up and left. We don't mind not sitting right away, even with a reservation, but after 40 minutes of waiting to even place an order, that is excessive. read more

Visited The Lake House for a wedding this past weekend. The views of the lake are gorgeous. I've heard that the sunsets here are to die for but unfortunately our festivities ended prior to the sun going down (afternoon wedding). There are three seating areas inside, one of which overlooks the lake. Try to get seated in that room if you can. Agreeable weather will allow for outdoor seating, which would probably be optimal. Given our event, the menu was fixed. The lobster raviolis I had were just okay (they were a tad gummy) but the passed appetizers were all good (bacon-wrapped shrimp, egg rolls, crabmeat stuffed mushrooms, etc). The King ordered the steak for his entree but he said that he could have done without the peppercorn sauce. It overwhelmed the steak. Service was good and our waiter ensured that we always had a cocktail in hand (or one on the way). I would like come back again to try the main menu when the weather gets nicer (it WILL get nicer, right?). read more

Very nice restaurant on the shore of a lake. The interior of the restaurant looks like something out of the 1800's at first glance, but is very still very comfortable, and a very nice place for a meal.. I recommend making reservations, as it looks like it can get pretty busy during peak times, especially if you'd like a table with a view of the water. We came in around 6pm, and were seated quickly. Service is friendly and quick. I ordered the 8oz filet mignon and a lobster tail. The filet was nicely seasoned, and tender as could be. The lobster tail was HUGE, cooked to perfection, and delicious. Nice selection of beers to accompany your meal if you care to imbibe. All around a great experience! You will not leave here hungry or dissatisfied! I will be back any time I'm in the Newburgh area. read more

What a quaint little spot. I made reservations for my wife and I and we went at about 7:30. The prices reflect the food options and quality. What an amazing place to eat, especially since it is only 5 minutes from my house. The food quality was fantastic. We ate entirely too much. Fresh oysters, Shrimp wrapped in bacon and stuffed, and shrimp pasta. Wow, delicious is all I can really say. Located right on the lake and is a beautiful location, perfect for any occasion. What a bad change ,sad . Over 40 minute wait on reservation . Almost 3 hours wait start to finish of a very horrendous service and dinner . Wait for water ,bread on table after constantly reminding waitress it still took over half hour .You can see my overcooked ,burnt duckling . Baked potato burnt . My son's steak overdone . Complained to manager who apologized but didn't seem to care . I did not get what I paid for this time, definitely overpriced. This has been my favorite restaurant for many years. Unfortunately on Wednesday Aug 7th was a disappointment. Our server Mike was very nice and very attentive. The restaurant atmosphere was still great. Unfortunately the food was a disappointment. We ordered the veal in Madeira sauce. The veal was great but the sauce it was in was horrible. First it was nothing like what a Madeira sauce should be and Madeira sauce is meant to be served with red meat. The sauce tasted like a can of Campbell's tomato soup. Than we ordered the bread pudding for dessert. It was dry and cold. Very big disappointment. I will go back as everyone can have a bad day. We did tell our server about our disappointment so I hope they will make the necessary adjustments. They still make an awesome martini. read more

In one word: spectacular. A simple, almost plain atmosphere, with a great view of the lake. Nothing plain and simple about the menu. Wow! Here's an example... Had the roasted yellow beet salad with fresh goat cheese and cantaloupe, atop mixed greens w/ a light vinaigrette. didn't even know there was such a thing as yellow beets!). Whoever came up with such a combination is a genius! Main course and desert was awesome, but I'll spare details. My waiter, Travis could write a book on customer service! He did everything possible to make sure that all patrons had the best possible dining experience. I have never had a server able to memorize the specials and describe them in such an accurate and detailed way. Great job Travis, I'll return if I am able to visit the area in the future. read more

Gorgeous location, charming, down-to-earth, traditional 19th century American decor (rare these days.) Casually pleasant, great views from big windows overlooking the spotless lake. Cheerful staff, but service was, while well-intentioned, obviously untrained and a bit indifferent. But of course this is a small, country inn, appears to be a family-type operation, very homey but not very professional. Skip the Lobster/crab cakes - ours were drastically overcooked. The other sea foods were nothing to write home about either. The "short ribs" were unique but disappointing - 4 puny rectangles of slced beef, each the size and thickness of playing cards in a delicious sauce. Plenty of sauce, not enough meat. The plate was overwhelmed by a profusion of waffled, fried potatoes which were also good, especially with that generous helping of sauce to enhance them. More meat please, this is restaurant not a bar. The salad was so skimpy it was served on a flat saucer and contained nothing recognizable but a few lacey greens. The onion soup was good but the garnish of scallions was odd. The desserts were mediocre. All told, neither the food or the service justify the prices. First class prices should be accompanied by more professionalism and less 'down-home' attitude. But give it a try, voice your opinions, they need to grow some experience. We'll try again in a year or so. read more

Lovely quaint old place on Orange Lake, town of Newburgh New York. Beautiful setting on the lake, got to watch the sunset which was quite nice. The menu is very lovely , and the food was quite good. Servers were friendly and very knowledgeable. My only gripe is that it took a while to get the food, we assumed that it was the kitchen staff that was slow. Drinks are very tasty and the ambience is very appealing. Will definitely try it out again. read more
