My wife & I went there last night for a social event. The event was held upstairs in a nice private room. We found the staff extremely friendly and courteous making sure that our glasses were kept full and anything we needed was quickly taken care of. We spoke with the manager and she told us that they do all kinds of events from small groups like ours to larger events like baby showers and small weddings. The food was excellent, I started with the shrimp cocktail, a nice salad, then my choice for the main course which was stuffed haddock. I finished off with coffee & Carrot cake. Went here with friends and we ordered the prime rib. It arrived on the table less than room temperature (not even warm) and the tap water tasted terrible. They advertise homemade pies and the cake that we received was definitely a store bought, soggy carrot cake. The crust on the peach blueberry pie was raw dough and terribly disappointing. As far as ambiance, it is ironic that the place is called Lakeview when all you can see is a small section of a water alcove which is sectioned off by an ugly, big white chain. When you go out spending that kind of money you expect a certain standard of service and food. We received neither. We definitely will not be back to get ripped off again. read more

Been here several times over the years, the food is always good and some of the specials are just great. Wait staff is nice but very busy, if you want to eat and run tell them! Relaxed and casual, the bar is removed from being on top of the dining room so you don't get a lot of the noise. I've had several dishes but I love their pizza, it is always top notch. Probably the worst dining experience I've ever had. We arrived around 5:45 and the restaurant was fairly empty. We were seated, the waitress took our drink order, and it took around 25 minutes for her to come back and take the food order...passing us numerous times to attend and visit with other customers seated after us. She only came over we think because another waitress noticed how long it was taking and asked us if we were ready to order. Once she took our food order, we waited a half hour and wondered why we didn't get our salads yet...as new customers were being seated and served (including drinks and salads). We literally watched people come in after us, eat their meals, and leave before we got served an ounce of food. She finally came to our table and told us that our order didn't print for the kitchen...that they are now cooking it, so we waited another 15-20 minutes to get our entrees. We understand mistakes happen , but she walked by our table at least 10 times and saw we had no food. We also noticed other waitresses were looking at our table and knew what was going on. The worst part of it all is that our waitress was the owner. She apologized briefly just once, but was very aloof to the situation and it didn't seem to bother her...my guess is this may have been a different story if it was another waitress not doing her job. Although my daughter's kids meal and my dinner were good, my wife's dinner was not. The presentation was poor and it looked like everything was just thrown on the plate in a rush. She did not enjoy it. The other waitress advised us they were comping our desserts. After the meal, the other waitress gave us the desserts and we waited for our waitress (the owner) to bring us the check after being there for 2 + hours. We waited awhile and she never came back, so we had to ask the other waitress for the check. You seriously can't make this shit up. We got there before and left after the entire dinner rush...and got 20 dollars worth of desserts for our troubles...desserts missing the whip cream we asked for. It's disappointing that the owner would be that indifferent to customers she's literally serving herself, and that her staff could see this and not speak up. Also, we should have definitely been comped more in some way...very unprofessional for a long standing restaurant. On a good note, all the other staff seemed to have good customer service skills, just don't have the owner wait on you. read more

ZERO STARS I brought 8 people to eat and drink for a birthday dinner. We got the drunk waitress who throws a fit when we say 2 of our party won't be showing, she screams we are moving you. After she moves us anyways after telling her and another waitress it's fine we don't need to move. I was embarrassed and really angry. I didn't enjoy any food because everyone at our table complained about their food was over cooked or cold. Second time here for lunch and very much enjoyed our time here. There is a good selection to choose from off their menu including daily specials. I had the tuna salad sandwich on marble rye with lettuce and tomato and a side of tuna mac salad. It was really good and portion size was generous. The food was good but the dining room is so loud, you can barely hear the person next to you. I was there with 2 friends and a few tables near us had people talking and laughing so loudly, that it spoiled our night. I asked the waitress if she could ask those tables to lower their voices, but she said, 'I wish I could'. I think a manager should have been told that people were complaining as the table across from us said the same thing. The food was good, nothing great but worth returning for if the service wasn't so bad. We were there last Thursday. It was steady, but not busy and there were still a lot of open tables and enough servers to cover them. We waited at least 15 minutes for anyone to take our drink orders though we did see the waitress chatting with a table that seemed to be regulars. We ordered our food at the same time we ordered our drinks. Our food came pretty quick, we ate it, finished and sat and waited. And waited. My husband did order dessert. Again that came quickly along with the bill. We finished dessert and put the card on the table and waited, waited some more. Several servers saw it on the table but not a single person picked it up. Servers seemed to gravitate towards tables of people they knew. Eventually we got sick of waiting and paid cash just so we could leave. So I took my 91-year old friend to dinner for her birthday. We showed up early for our reservation, ordered right away, and the food came 25-minutes later. We started to eat, when the manager came by and said: "I want you to know I've reserved this table for 25-minutes from now, so you'll have to leave then." ME: Uh...what? We just got our food. When my mother invited me to have dinner with her, I gladly accepted. She told me she believed Lakeview would be serving prime rib since it was on a Friday. I love prime rib and would not need to look at the menu for other options, if that's the case. That being said, it's been some time since I've had really good prime rib. I've ordered it many places, and it been ok to decent... but not up to par. No offense to Lakeview, but my expectations were low due to what I have been experiencing. When the plate came out of the kitchen, just the look of it suggested it was gonna be awesome. That may sound strange, but I'm the meat whisper... and this thing was speaking my language. It looked right, it was cooked right and i was ready... It was nice sized, insanely tender and absolutely delicious. It was by far the best prime rib I've had in years. Not sure why other establishments forgot how to do it right??? Lakeview's prime rib was absolutely spectacular!!! It was soo good, I ordered one to go to bring home to my wife. As my wife ate it, she moaned and groaned and could not stop saying how good it was. Kinda made me feel like I have to step up my game... to get that same response. I absolutely recommend Lakeview for prime rib. And the seafood chowder was incredible as well. It's about a 35 minute drive to Lakeview from our house. The service was incredible but the food is towards the downside, fish n fries, the only good thing were the fries. My mom got grilled shrimp that came on a bed of pasta. It smelled like old seafood dish and wasn't good at all. The friend fish tasted stale too, like haddock in balloon of batter. My husband got a steak which he said was okay. The scenery is beautiful on the deck. The traditional old school restaurant location has a lot of potential, but the food part really needs a perk up. I've always found Lakeview to have excellent service, great wings and great pizza. It's hard to find a local joint that works so well but Lakeview does it! Their food is consistently good, and the only way the restaurant could improve is by adding delivery! Once when I ordered a sandwich for pickup they put mayo on it (I don't eat mayo at all) so that was a bust, but otherwise whenever I order from there, it's exactly as I ordered. read more

I got garlic parm and mild sauced wings and in addition to waiting for awhile the wings when I got home were flavorless and I asked for crispy wings and they were the opposite of crispy then the online menu states 9.95 and I payed 16 dollars(have no clue where the huge difference in price came from) I tasted no mild sauce and the Garlic Parm flavor I tasted on maybe two wings out of ten and it was a single small spot on the chicken wing itself. Honestly I'm not this guy but I was excited for some wings but I overpayed for wings that weren't very good and I would of been better off ordering wings from the jiffe-mart; would of saved money and there would of probably been more flavor. Just had a horrible experience, if you want supermarket frozen appetizers heated up and nacho sauce and salsa from a can, then this is the place for you!!! Literally just had our waitress agree with us that the food looked inedible and she wouldn't eat it herself. While defending the meal she served, she asked us, the customers, if the menu stated that appetizers were advertised as "homemade" ????? Why should one have to question whether a restaurants food is made fresh on premises...if you want an overpriced, totinos pizza rolls and burnt frozen mini tacos, this place will be happy to over charge you. Nice lake off the back deck tho which is the only reason this dump is getting 1 star. DINER BEWARE!! We were completely ignored for 8 minutes as the hostess walked past us numerous times. Then treated to a passive-aggressive hissy fit when we asked whether we could sit outside. she walked away, made a childish gesture with her hands, and did not return. 10 minutes later we left. After picking up my cousin at Albany International Airport and driving back on Route 43 toward a family retreat at the Jiminy Peak mountain resort in the Berkshires, we sought a casual restaurant for dinner. Driving along the county highway past scores of pizza joints and nondescript bars in Defreestville and West Sand Lake, Lakeview screamed at us from its perch above Crystal Lake. The sign alone had an air of homeliness that begged us to try it out. We skipped the air conditioned bar (broadcasting the Mets game) and walked past the huge dining room (I'm guessing 40 tables and booths) to the outdoor deck (that overlooked the parking lot more than the lake, but at least we could see the sun about to set on the horizon). With three other family members in my dining party, two of us ordered the salmon caesar salad which was to die for; my aunt was especially astonished that the Alaskan salmon was farm-raised as it tasted more like the wild variety. The romaine lettuce was crisp and dark green, and the dressing was creamy. My cousin, the one who just flew in, said the scala bread was delicious. Sitting next to him, another cousin ordered a burger and enjoyed it, too. Apparently, Lakeview is a convenient restaurant due to its juncture as the median point between Albany and western Massachusetts mountain towns. As proof, we overheard three women at at adjacent table who said two of them lived in Albany and one lived in North Adams and they met at Lakeview once a month for catch up and dinner conversation. read more

This has been my go to spot for several years. Lately they have been slipping. My orders continue to get messed up and their menu does not accurately explain all the items. I love this place so I'll give it a good star value and hope someone reads this that works there. For example the piping hot hoagie isn't a hoagie at all. It's a like a boat. They cut out the inside of the bottom part of the sub and put the food in its place with no top bun. It's decent but not what I was expecting. I'll continue to go here but I am hoping the food goes back to where I'm used to it being. I'd give my last 5 visits 2-3 stars. We live in Averill Park and eat at Lakeview frequently. Good food (especially hot turkey sandwich) and fair prices. This review, however, is about their catering/banquet menu and facilities. We had a brunch for about 70 people in the upstairs room yesterday after a funeral. It was just perfect! The ladies I dealt with to set it up on fairly short notice were very accommodating. The food was delicious and plentiful. Buffet Menu was scrambled eggs and French toast, great sausage, two kinds of quiche, home fries, and a fruit bowl. We added a lovely bowl of mimosas! The servers were attentive and gracious. Room was the perfect size for our group. I highly recommend it for any kind of private function! read more

I always like to get out of the city for a spell and having dinner here hit the spot. The seafood chowder was loaded with seafood. Perhaps a slightly crazy concept to some restaurants but here it was no problem. I also had a the 12 oz sirloin cooked just as I wanted with a a dozen of steamed littlenecks, all for a mere $26.95. Yum! A decent beer, wine, and mixed drink selection to boot! I miss having a real meal for a decent price in a cozy, unpretentious joint. Excellent friendly place. Beautiful setting on the lake. Huge portion sizes. Nice deck for outside dining overlooking the lake very extensive menu. I've only had the eggplant Parm which was plentiful for sure. I guess my only complaint would be is the angel hair it came with was broken in half before cooked. That's a huge pet peeve of mine and will be sure to mention them to not break it next time.
