1st time stopping here , 6 of us and we all ordered something different , my friends got turkey dinner that looked great, another got the 1/2 chicken , another got the massive club sandwich which all looked great . I got the brisket plate , comes with two sides and corn bread , I got the coleslaw which was great and a good amount , and the garlic mashed potatoes which were amazing . The only disappointment was the brisket, sliced way too thin , and dried out . I've never seen brisket sliced that thin . They have 4 different sauces to help . Went with a party of 7 for lunch on a Saturday and was sat right away. That's where the quickness ends. We ordered, waited about 15 minutes and then the waitress told us their pizza ovens were down so they couldn't make pizza or nachos. Ok fine, I was gonna have nachos for my meal but I pivoted and ordered the fish sandwich. We then waited and waited and waited. Our food didn't arrive until we had been there for 1 hour! It seemed as though there were 1 (maybe 2) waitresses for the whole very busy place. Either someone called in or this was poor planning regarding staffing. Finally food came and somehow they brought me a Reuben. I ate it as I had been waiting for food for an hour and they gave me my fish sandwich to go. We've have been going to Towne Tavern for over 20 years, sadly we will not be retuning any time soon. Although our order was taken quickly after we were seated it would be well over an hour later before it arrived at the table. We ordered an appetizer which came out about a half hour after seating and then nothing. Our waitress stopped by at one point to say our food would be coming out soon but then disappeared and never checked back. I eventually went looking for someone to ask what was going on. The manager (?) came to our table and instead of apologizing ,sarcastically started explaining how a kitchen works then blamed it on our order- which was basically two sandwiches and an order of Mac cheese. When we pointed out that a table of six seated much later than us had all received their food. She claimed there was an issue with the Mac cheese and that my portobello mushroom takes a long time to cook. She was offensive and condescending throughout even asking me if I wanted to go in the kitchen and check the receipts for myself. It was a really terrible experience. It saddens me to say we will be crossing Towne Tavern off of our list of dining choices. Maybe we will return when management changes. read more

We went here because it was raining and we didn't feel like venturing far. Pros: decor is great. Our server was attentive and efficient. Cons: the food. The barbecue is inedible. I don't know what I was served, but it was gross. The skin was black and the chicken was mealy. I ended up sharing my partner's pot pie. The portions are tiny. The salad is paltry at best, and the dressing choices are limited. There's no"normal " dressings to choose from. I won't be returning. My recommendation is to go elsewhere. read more

Went in on this past Sunday, March 29 at 4 o'clock Sat at a high top table with my husband received our drinks. My friends came in and sat with us which she knew we said we had company coming and they waited 25 minutes to get their drink drinks, and she was very sarcastic when my friend said I'll take two because service is obviously taking a while and her comment was well. I can bring you three or four and laughed, and we waited and waited and waited and it was time to pay our bill. Of course the pizza wasn't cooked all way and the quesadillas were cold. We were just trying to finish our dinner and get out of there I had a Visa debit gift card that I had given to me and it had $150 on it. The girl took it to pay. My bill came back and said it wouldn't work and I said it's a debit card and she said it just won't work so my husband paid cash my friends paid cash heard her say maybe you should use your card in another spot which was very unprofessional so when I got home, I called to check on it. I did have $150 balance and there was no denial on it. I called back the next day asking to speak with a manager or an owner and come to find out I was talking to the same girl who waited on me. She was very sarcastic and finally told me I never even put it through because we don't accept gift cards does not a gift card. It is a debit card. I use it. They're very following day at Moscatiellos with no profit. All you swipe it just like a credit card. I believe the girls is very unprofessional. We will never go back there. My friends have a big Camp right up the road from there and I'm sure they're not going to be there much either. They were not happy. They were gonna actually get up and leave after they got there waiting so long I think it should be addressed. The place is usually great however in our last visit we sat at the bar and promptly ordered a drink and asked for menus. The bar was covered with peanut shells from the previous patron. Bartender never cleaned the bar. We got our drinks but after 30 minutes was never able to order food. Bartender was talking to her friends at the other end of the bar the whole time. The couple next to us left because they never got the food they did order. The couple on the other side of us had empty glasses. We left without ever even ordering. Been here many times. Popular, good bar crowd. Went for the prime rib on Friday night and they had none left at 7:00. Ordered brisket. This restaurant sees itself as a BBQ place, but I don't. Not the first time I've had the brisket and it's the same every time - dry, thin slices. Had to cover it in sauces to make it palatable. Having lived in the south most of my life, I'm constantly on the lookout for great BBQ, specifically Carolina style BBQ. When I saw they had it on the menu I was a bit skeptical, but gave it a shot anyway. To say it was amazing would be an understatement! This was some of the best, if not THE best, Carolina BBQ I've ever had. The sauce it came in was absolutely perfect and there was no need for additional sauce. The meat was smoked to perfection and incredibly tender and juicy! Just be prepared for a wait upon arrival, or call ahead and make reservations. The overall atmosphere was wonderful. Be still my heart. I will continue to give my favorite wing award to The Towne Tavern for as long as they keep doing their thing. The wings they serve here are simply amazing and I haven't found anything better. The smoked wings, deep fried, and drenched in their amazing Lemon Pepper Tequila sauce is the trifecta that wins it for me. The wings are deeply smokey, insanely crispy, tender and juicy on the inside, the sauce is perfect, I LOVE these damn wings. I come from Albany (30 mins) and it is more than worth it every time. My last visit I double ordered wings so I had plenty to bring home. oh, did I mention they also make their own killer blue cheese? Other than the wings, they have a pretty good draft list, but for some reason, the Sam Adam's Cherry Wheat tastes the best here. It's like a Shirley Temple beer. For an appetizer, we always order the Corn Fritters. It is like fried little balls of creamed corn and they are absolutely fantastic when dipped into the homemade ranch. My boyfriend loves their thick hand packed burgers also. Friday's and Saturday's they have a Prime Rib Special which is SUPER good, but for me, it is hard to get anything other than those freaking wings of perfection. I love this place, I love the taxidermy, I love the wings, I love the service, I love the not-so-appropriate quotes on the wooden beams, and the bra hanging from the ceiling, and did I mention? ... Sister-in-law had usual 1/2 rack St. Louis style bbq ribs w/ 2 sides ($22.59) w/ the four bbq sauce choices. Sweet, sticky, sloppy just the way they should be eaten. My bride had the baked haddock w/ cracker crumb topping w/ rice pilaf & veg ($21.59). Well prepared & hot to the table. I had their unique picante french onion soup-tomato & beef broth stock ($7.50) and the "Mom's Meatloaf sandwich w/pepper jack on a ciabatta roll ($13). Their food is really tasty and the potato pancakes were a nice unique side dish, but now it's a disappointment that it's not homemade anymore. This is purely based off the customer service and take out. (THE FOOD IS ALWAYS GOOD) Last week as we stayed up on Big Bowman we ordered take out three times from TT. Out of three we only received the perfect order once. Order 1: I ordered dinner for my daughter and I... I was shocked when the guy told me $40! reviewed the order and they added antipasto to our meal. I had to wait for about 10 minutes while my food got cold for them to remove the extra charge to my debit card. Many staff walked by and no recognition as I waited and waited and waited... Order 2: they got it right. Order 3: There was food for 6 people so it was a large order. But who's order did they mess up after I placed the order and went and picked it up... mine! Or course! They charged us for a Cesar salad and there was no salad. They offered for us to either drive (20 minute ordeal) and get it or take it off the bill. So we opted for take it off our bill but my boyfriend and I for lunch had to split a sandwich so we didn't get enough to eat. I feel like TT has to step up their customer service here! Although this place had been recommended to us over two years ago, we've only recently tried for the first time. We were back the following week. Everything we've ordered there has been terrific. First meal started with a broccoli jalapeño chowder-delicious! Wings-crispy and delicious. Smoked chicken for my hubs and brisket for me. Everything was so good. A week later, a tomato based chowder, and again wings. Did not disappoint. I had the baked haddock special in a honey sauce, hubs had the chicken piccata. Again, everything was just very well prepared. Service both nights was fine, perhaps a little slow, but nothing to get upset over. Good selection of beer on tap. If for some reason you find yourself in the booming metropolis that is Averill Park then the Towne Tavern is a fun hang. You can tell it has lots of fans as it was packed on a Friday night. The have a wide selection of beer which is always appreciated. It is wonderful how many pubs and taverns have figured out that having just Budweiser is no longer acceptable. Towne Tavern has you covered here. They are using a smoker for many of their entrees here. I saw huge slabs of prime rib on tables that looked pretty awesome. My party did order some potato skins, corn fritters and a bevy of wings. The wings are smoked and then fried which created a different taste profile. Unfortunately they were a bit overcooked. We tried a few sauces. The lemon pepper tequila was tasty. We took a risk and ordered the inside out wings. They put the dressing (we weren't even sure it was blue cheese) on the outside. This should be removed from the menu immediately. Creativity is always good but this was an epic strikeout. The corn fritters were nice. The sweetness from the corn came through and were nicely fried. They came with a tasty sauce. The potato skins included the usual accompaniments with the addition of black olives. This didn't really work and the potato was very dry. They have many BBQ options on the menu and they are putting the smoker to good use. I ordered some ribs which were fine but won't win any BBQ contests. I sensed they were parboiled which is a sin at any serious BBQ restaurant. They have several sides and I chose BBQ baked beans and cole slaw. The slaw was fantastic!!! Some of the best I have had in recent memory. The beans were too sweet and reheated in a microwave (eye roll). For the locals this is probably a favorite spot. For myself, there are too many places that make better wings, have a good beer selection and much better BBQ. I certainly would not return just for cole slaw :) read more

Good food. Cute/cozy place. It took a bit for us to get service initially after we sat down but after that our waitress was awesome and food came out quickly. I love that they make everything from scratch. Their pizza was a little floppy and underwhelming, but their mozz sticks and chicken wings were very good. My husband said they may have been the best chicken wings he's ever had and he's serious about wings . Also great beer and drink selections! Did not disappoint! Went XC skiing for the day and the group I was with was in need of some warm and comforting food. A quick Yelp search lead me to The Town Tavern and we were more than satisfied with our pick. Extensive menu, had everything we each were craving. Started off with some warm spiked mulled ciders and the bbq chicken nachos. Perfect ratio of all the toppings and the cider came warm with your choice of liquor (We got Fireball in one and Cap Morgan in the other). For entrees we got the Blacksmith Burger, The Averill Park Warrior, and the Carolina Pulled pork with sides of coleslaw and onion rings. The burgers were cooked just right, still juicy, with a nice smoky taste right off the grill. Reminded me of being at a barbecue in the summer even though it was winter. The portion size of the pulled pork could've fed a family of 4-5! Lots of meat on the plate cooked to the right tenderness with just the right amount of seasoning. Came with an assortment of bbq sauces which we thoroughly enjoyed. Coleslaw, onion rings, and corn bread also on point. Service was warm and welcoming from our first step into the building. We were seated upstairs and enjoyed the view of their taxidermy collection from up top. Our waitress was great. Kind, friendly, and knowledgeable about the menu. She was quick to take our orders, checked up on our table often and made us feel like we could relax and enjoy our meal without having to rush to take the dishes back. Don't be the last table of the evening! I get it, long day for the server and we were the last table, but still. Server was visibly uninspired. Handed drinks and plates across everyone at the table as opposed to walking around to give each person their plate or drink. No one else around us, so it's not like he couldn't get around tight tables or seats. Overall food was poorly put together. Rice pilaf was actually under cooked under seasoned white rice. Onions on salad still had skin on them. Vegetables included on dish per menu, but not when it came out. Grilled cheese for three year old was served on burnt toast that was flipped to the bottom side, as if no one would notice. Positive note - wings were fantastic. read more

When I came I ordered the parmesan truffle fries for an appetizer, the pastrami sandwich, and the fish tacos with the salmon. There was one type of seasoning on the fries that was a little different and not particularly good. The pastrami sandwich was very good the meat was tender And the mustard really makes the sandwich . The fish tacos were fantastic, the salmon was cooked very well and the dressing on top balanced the whole dish very well.For the sandwich and tacos, you are able to choose your side from their list of sides for no extra cost which is great! The Shirley temple was also delicious. The service was very polite, attentive, and the food came out quickly. This is the perfect place to wear jeans to, it's not too fancy or too laid back. Was in the neighborhood and we stopped for dinner. Sat upstairs. We did not have a friendly server. I did try to get him to relax and crack a smile. It wasn't because they were busy I just think going up and down the stairs fir a party of 8 got to him. However by the end of service he at least smiled. We did tip well cause he did work hard. Just nice when u get service with a smile. We were in a great mood cause it was my daughters birthday. We started off with nachos and hot wings. Also the jalapeño poppers which by the way we're great. The wings were good as well. For dinner I ordered the full rack of ribs. It was dry. My husband got the burger. Said it was great. The pulled pork sandwich was a tad spicy. But good. Big portions, and tons of choices. Family friendly pricing. A solid 3.5star. Chicken wings are best when their skin is crispy. So in upstate New York, as a preventative measure, many wing lovers make sure to ask for them "crispy" when placing an order. Usually, that's the smart play. But not at The Towne Tavern. The Towne Tavern knows how to make a crispy wing when left to its own devices, and if you ask for it "crispy" they'll fry it a bit longer which will result in a tougher more dried out wing. We learned this the hard way. Fortunately we had the appetite to order a second round of wings and were able to experience the skill of their craft. Lightly smoked wings are deep fried and slathered in a traditional Buffalo sauce, served with an aggressively chunky blue cheese dressing. These were delicious. I can't say I was a fan of the parmesan and "butter" wings. But the unique smoky twist on the standard medium or hot wings was delicious. That said, I'm not quite sure it's so delicious as to make it worth the drive out from Albany. But this is a great place with a great beer selection. Of course, not everything is great. The mozzarella sticks are entirely forgettable and should be avoided. I was also not a fan of their pizza. If you do go for pizza, this is a toppings driven pie, and I was glad we got the one with pulled pork on it, as The Towne Tavern can do good work with its smoker. And I was a fan of those halved jalapenos stuffed with cheese and sausage, which were served with an overly sticky melba sauce. While I wasn't a huge fan of the melba sauce on its own or with the mozzarella sticks, it did work well with this signature appetizer. Parking can be tough, because this joint is crowded. I was told that the consignment store across the street can be used for overflow parking. One of these days I'll make it back there. Perhaps when one of my wing loving friends comes out for a visit from the west coast, where they have no decent wings. Bringing them to The Towne Tavern will really just help to prove the point how this area can do great things with flats and drumettes. read more

Heard a lot of good things about this place. Mainly the wings. I tried one at Wing Wars and it was ice cold and awful. I didn't want to hold it against them because it wasn't at the restaurant. So I finally got around to making the drive out there It was probably around 8 when we arrived on a Saturday night, so later than the normal dinner crowd but they were still really busy. We ended up waiting about 20 mins or so for a table. I ordered the BBQ chicken nachos and some medium wings for an appetizer and a Hawaiian Pizza for dinner. The Nachos are outstanding. The chicken is smoked then coated with a thin layer of BBQ. They could have loaded a little more meat on though. The wings were lightly smoked and then fried crisp. A little bit of a different take on the normal Buffalo wing and they finally redeemed themselves after the wing I tried at Wing Wars. The pizza however was just average. Nothing to really set it apart from any other place. If I lived closer I would come back fairly often but its kind of a hike for me. I'm interested to see how the ribs are though so I'm sure I'll be back at some point. read more
