I've been here twice now and I love it. If you're looking for an actual coffee review, that's not this review... Both times I ordered a sugary latte of some sort. They're super tasty and I highly recommend. Their pastries are also yummy and fresh-tasting. It's a cute little cafe and has seating for maybe 20 people, so don't plan on bringing the whole church group ;) I'll always come back if possible! read more

Absolutely loved this place from the moment I stepped inside!! Great variety of products from T-shirts, health and beauty products, books, kettle corn, food and of course great tasting coffee. Had a very nice breakfast here before the super bowl, the coffee was very good. I had a iced mint mocha, a bacon egg and cheese bagel also a lemon loaf. Everything was delicious. The service was very kind. The price was $19 for me and my girlfriends meals and coffee which is very good. I would say the pricing is a little higher then dunkins but definitely lower then Starbucks. The atmosphere is cozy and warm, the food took a little bit but it was busy so understandable. Why charge so much when other mom and pop shops charge 50-75 cents for alternative milk? Cute little coffee shop. Ive had some amazing cups of teas and coffees here. Great selection of snacks and a few baked goods. I have not tried any of the menu items (seems to be mostly soups and grilled cheese). I wish they would lose most of the sale items like the tshirts and other gift items. Seems weird and out of place and would make more seating room. Also the prices are pretty high. I can get the same cup of coffee, etc down the road at Starbucks for half the cost. We go to LaLa when we're stuck on the west side of Northborough and need to eat something -- and are desperate enough to pay the price. Yesterday we needed something quick, so we dropped $26 plus an undeserved tip (our fault -- we paid upon ordering and didn't know how disinterested the service would be) on two sandwiches and two smoothies. They're not bad -- just nothing special for the money -- and the service behind the counter was the most lackluster we've experienced it there. (Plus we got the treat of dining al fresco while grounds maintenance workers arrived and pulled out several 8' shrubs with a pick-up truck and chain just feet away from where we were noshing. What fun.) Now, to hygiene. If you want to learn a quick history of LaLa Java's years in this location, just sit at one of their slatted tables and peer between the boards. You'll view just about every crumb and schmear they've ever served. And the little tables out on the sidewalk appear never to have been wiped. Yesterday, it took several rounds of napkins for us to even reveal their original color. This place has a such potential to be special. When it was newer, it was more so. Our guess is that the problem is either bad management or disinterested ownership. Our experience yesterday was the worst yet. We'd love to see LaLa rise a few stars in the ratings. Its location is fabulous. The concept is a good one. Perhaps after a thorough bleaching...and much, much TLC. read more

Been here a few times to get coffee but always popped in and out. Today I actually came in to study and get some work done. The WiFi use is ONE hour per purchase which is insane. Haven't heard of any coffee shop doing this and I think it's ridiculous to have that kind of set up when people want to come in and do work with a coffee. Saw another review that spoke on this topic after I left which is fine if that's the philosophy of this coffee shop but this should be publicized and not listed as a place that is good for work. I have always seen the old shack location on RT. 9, but never got the chance to stop. I finally made a mission to go here tonight. I did and was highly in love with this place. I walked in and immediately loved the decor. Its flashy, and kind of tropical island looking ish. I noticed they had out coffee beans from each of there flavors and brews. Along with it is a story and info on that blend of been and how strong. I think this is an amazing concept. You can see exactly what you are drinking and learn a bit too. Something other coffee places do NOT do. I next noticed there were a ton of logo t-shirts, merch and other things. I think this just makes the place even cooler for the decor and the fact you can promote the business. I then noticed there were these bottles of liqued sugar, ice tea, lemonade, tea and other flavored syrups. It says add with water or tonic. I looked on the back of the bottle and it said bottled by LaLaJava in Northborough. I couldn't believe it! How cool is it that a place promotes it self with all this merch and bottles up products you can bring home? I love it! It makes it unique and better then chain places. Its just that little something different. Prices and Food: Now to talk about the food and drinks. I ordered just a standard "House Blend" to try the basic drink and ended up getting some sort of Maple/Nut Scone. I have to say that the house blend was great! Said it was a favorite for 7 years. It wasnt anything to 100% unique, but thats all I was going for, was a standard coffee to try it first. I loved it though and the scone was great too. It wasnt dry at all. It was not overly sweet, and had just the right amount of maple/nut flavor and portion. I was really happy how cheap it was. It came to $4.46 which to me for both of those are a great price. The scone was a big size and I got a medium coffee. They seem like it was a bit more for the special drinks and desserts, but not much more. I really also love the fact you had many many choices for coffees, mocha, and other special drinks. Frozen or hot. They offer a wide variety of breakfast sandwiches, grilled pressed sandwiches, as well as scones, cupcakes, yogurt muffins, and much more. I really recommend the coffee and scones so far :). Location: Alot easier to get to and find now that its off Rt. 9. Its a much bigger space and has plenty of parking and signs to find it. Not hard at all. Owner, Misc., and more. They offer free WIFI which is always nice. Plasma TV's all inside, and plenty of places to sit and relax in a nice area. The owner of the place extremely nice! I cant tell you enough how amazing she is. I had to tell her how I loved her place and we talked for a good 10 minutes about me, her, the place, and such. I felt so welcomed and she absolutely was happy that I loved her place. I told her shes got a great place going for everyone around. Prices: 5/5 Decor: 5/5 Location: 5/5 Food/Drinks: 5/5 Misc: 5/5 Overall: 5/5 I highly recommend going here whether you are in the area or not, because honestly to tell you the truth, this is a one of kind place that serves not only great food and drink, but its a feeling and decor you JUST WONT get from a chain place. I will be writing an update when I go back of the other food, coffee, and desserts I try and fill everyone in on anything new I see or things I observe. What an amazing coffee house! Tucked away in a plaza (I wish they had a better sign as I've passed by a ton of times and never noticed it), it's worth the visit. So much going on inside. Jewelry for sale, coffee, shirts, and just a fun vibe to the whole store. I got an awesome iced pistachio mocha. So good. Very strong and you never see that as a flavor. They had tons of interesting flavors and you could tell they meant business with their coffee. We also ordered a grilled cheese. Can I say amazing again? So good and I loved the cute presentation with it surrounded by goldfish crackers. Great taste. Great prices on everything and not much of a wait. I can't wait to stop in again! read more

So much better than the shack on route 9 but the layout is horrendous and a total waste of space with a full third of the space devoted to tee shirts where tables could be. Went about 630 after dinner across the street and although they had put the coffee away for the night the nice girls working managed to make me a latte that I could have with the amazing brownie I ordered. Pastry was great, it all looked tempting, and the latte was the best I've ever had. Will definitely be back, I wish the bean counter was this much fun, although I agree it's a confusing place. read more

When I'm passing through Northborough I always stop into LalaJava. The coffee is great, the lunches are great...but the smoothies are only "OK". Typically it depends on who is making them at Lalajava. Some of the younger staff don't put as much care into mixing them and they come out with lots of ice chips. The older staff (maybe the owner?) makes a nice creamy, tasty smoothie. Other than that the place is fun, cool looking and clean. Great wi-fi, clean bathrooms and nice staff. read more

Every time we have been in the area and passed LaLaJava I comment about wanting to stop there; it's usually in the evening when they've already closed. Yesterday we were up early and decided to go somewhere for our coffee instead of having it home and I thankfully remembered wanting to check it out. Nitro Cold Brew- Amazing! I wish more places offered it, we were thrilled to find it here - and it didn't disappoint! We also grabbed a couple of breakfast sandwiches (bacon, egg & cheese on bagels) and they were generous portions and really tasty. Prices are good, especially for what you get. Cute atmosphere and friendly staff. A lot of coffee/health and wellness inspired merchandise which is right up my alley. Totally favor an independent local spot & am a little bummed it's not in my neighborhood - but also sort of glad as I'd probably go broke stopping in! But I did see a sign they were hiring so I might have to investigate :) read more

Really great beverages, but they come at a really high cost. Like, equal if not higher to Starbucks' cost. Unless you're getting a plain coffee from the honor system station, expect to dish out some cash. I've been a loyal customer here for 5 years and I love it. Beverages are unique and (usually) well-crafted. The only exceptions have been when an obviously new barista is making drinks. Other than that, love their coffee. My favorites are the almond latte and raspberry mocha truffle. I have to say, over the years the quality of the food has diminished a bit. Maybe it's because Lalajava is a busier café than it used to be, or maybe it's for budgeting reasons. Either way, I'd stick to the beverages, in my opinion. Iced lattes, iced teas, and lemonades are always delicious. Counter help is always friendly. Today however I was a little less impressed with my $24 lunch. A friend and I had the Pismo & Hermosa grilled cheeses, 1 cup of tomato soup and 1 iced tea. $24. UGH. I need a substantial sammie when I'm laying out $6. What we received were the thinnest grilled cheeses ... ever. I was a bit embarrassed that I asked my friend to drive 45 minutes out of his way to eat here. He's a big guy with a big appetite. One half of each of our sandwiches contained less than half of one piece of meat ( turkey for him, ham for me). I actually took a picture just in case it was ever disputed. The soup was fine ( Campbell's if I had to guess). Cute addition of a couple of goldfish crackers tossed on top of the sandwiches but nothing was making up for the fact that I wish we had gone to Chipotle and had a filling lunch. I will always support local businesses. I won't eat lunch at Lala Java again though. I'll stick to keeping them as my hydration fix. read more

Lala's was originally in Plymouth and was a favorite spot for my friends and I during high school. Was a dark day when we tried to go there one day while home visiting from college, only to find a darkened store front and "closed" sign... Therefore, I was very excited to discover that Lala's was still alive and well in Northborough. Managed to swing through on my way home from NH (just a slight detour) - the drinks are just as delicious as they were a decade (and then some) ago; salted carmel iced latte - awesome. There are also new food choices; my friend had a grilled cheese and I had a thai-chicken flatbread - both really tasty. Followed up by a pumpkin chocolate chip cookie - perfect ending. I do agree w/ one of the below comments re: t-shirts EVERYWHERE. There were shirts/merchandise when they were in Plymouth, but no where near the amount jammed in here. Perhaps that should be rethought - ditching the t-shirt racks would open the place up a lot, allow for more tables, etc. read more

I live in town and have been there a couple of times. Never found it very remarkable but looking to switch it up and go grab a coffee from somewhere different (who knows they may earn my two coffee a day business?). Well that's not happening any time soon! After ordering a dark roast iced coffee, I was told that my $4 was not enough to justify a debit card swipe. I was then told after I was given my coffee that I can just add some food with my order. I was not hungry and I have a thing about wasting food so I told him I didn't want any food. He then told me that it was ok and will just charge me $5 for my coffee (thanks!). With a long line behind me and being completely thrown off by the suggestion I actually agreed. Look I am fine with minimum payments but make sure you post it! Most people don't carry cash on them in this electronic day and age. At this point I assume most businesses accept debit cards especially coffee shops where the average order is under $5. This would have been a perfect opportunity to earn future business by allowing the minimum charge slide and just give me a heads up for the next time. Also doing me a favor and charging me a $1 extra for my coffee has to be one of the slimiest gestures iv ever come across. I'll make sure I pass this along to this story to my friends and family in town! read more

I go out of my way to come here for the grilled cheese options. I'm an admitted coffee snob, so the fact that they drop one shot of espresso into a medium 16 oz. iced cup for a latte is amateur hour. Ordering a triple then brings the price up above $5 due to the two extra shots needed. The taste is pretty good, but judging by the numerous flavor combinations, they're catering to a crowd that may not be daily drinkers/addicts. Don't be put off by the chachki t-shirt business that they also run out of the shop, because they definitely have variety and theme. I haven't tried the sandwiches... but DAMN is that grilled cheese menu fine. All on texas toast - build you own custom! read more
