Lala Java is one of the cutest little cafes in the Worcester county area that I have recently discovered! They have great service, great coffee selections and great pastries! Also, I love the T-shirts that they make and sell at the business that have the most appropriate messages for this time Everybody is very friendly and laid back! It's such a nice place to go to during this crazy time in our history when people are so afraid of their God given right to breath, socialize, smile, talk, be human...and just relax with a delicious cup of coffee and a muffin, even if you have to sit outside the setting is very nice to hangout with a friend to chit chat over a cup of coffee. I was annoyed at a person's comment about the mask requirement (which is not a law). If you are that afraid of breathing in public, as we have been doing for millions of years, then just stay home and let the rest of us sane people enjoy life! Love the grilled cheese.. but when I ordered a drink to go alongside of it there was a bug in it!!!!!! I did not pay an excessive amount ($4.00) for a lemonade to have a fly in it... what does that tell you about the cleanliness of the place??.. It must be pretty bad. The owner also kept trying to convince me about things to order and wouldn't stop even after I told her I was all set... great staff though. The baristas are very nice and friendly. There are not many places to go in the area where you can find an independent coffee shop. I make a point to bring my business to the independent shops. I know it is a competitive and tough business. For this reason, I feel badly about writing a poor review. But, I hope, if this is read that they think about their customer service. I have been frequenting this shop for almost one year. For awhile, the help was great and the coffee was good. Lately, over the past several months, I feel as if the customer service experience here has dwindled. If you order a latte, you never know if it will be well made well, if it will be hot or, if you get a full cup. I also hardly see the owners. When they are there, they do not make you feel as if you are welcome. The owners seem too busy to say hello. I find they seem annoyed if you ask a question. Perhaps I am spoiled but, I have always been able to connect with the owners of a shop where I am a regular customer. The help during the week days has been top notch. It is the owners who seem to give out a bad vibe. I now find myself going to Starbucks (in Marlborough, Mass) Were I feel the customer service experience is better. read more

New to the area, I stumbled across this awesome coffee shop with exploring Northboro. Located right on W. Main St, this little tiki hut themed coffee shop will make you feel like you are in the Hawaiian islands. The coffee is exceptional. The staff was very informative, as the menu is a little overwhelming for a first timer. I was split between the mint patty iced chocolate and an iced coffee. The barista sold me on the pumpkin spiced flavoring to add in the iced coffee. I also got a cheddar scone (baked fresh at the location). Prices are comparable to other boutique coffee shops. The two items cost me a little over $6. I'm quite excited to try their cold brew that is on tap along with their great selection of sandwiches, despite the varied reviews I'm reading (as I'm sitting in the shop drinking my coffee :-) ) read more

Great coffee and atmosphere. My everything bagel with creme cheese was extra good, the cream cheese was really fluffy and yum! I appreciate the health conscious attention to detail and was surprised that they are hip to the ketogenic diet! Turmeric smoothie is yum, yum. I love Lala!! The decor is tropical, funky, and relaxed. They play island music and you can purchase the cd's. I am not a coffee drinker but I love the smoothies and iced tea. The treats are good but not very healthy. I would like to see them offer some healthier options along with their current fare (the reason I only gave 4 stars instead of 5). They do sell some vegan cookies my kids and I really like. My fave is the lemon poppyseed. The grilled cheeses are amazing! They make them on Texas toast and serve them up with Goldfish crackers. I, too, love the Venice. My daughter melts for the Redondo. They also sell some mugs, jewelry and sassy, coffee-themed t-shirts. I would be happy to go every day! read more

I will give this a 4 Star but I want to note it is an "average" 4. The coffee is 6/5 stars - it is exceptional! The breakfast was 2/5 stars, and was disappointing. There are no food prices on the menu so I was surprised that a breakfast sandwich was $6. Also it comes with meat, and it's not less if you are a vegetarian and don't get meat on it. So basically $6 for egg and cheese on a bagel (and it was just okay). read more

They deserve more than 3 stars, but not 4, maybe 3.5. The coffee is good, although kind of expensive. Cappuccino was so so and they don't seem to have mugs. Why is it so much to expect my $4 drink to be served in a real cup? Skip the grilled cheese. They're fine, its just you could easily make any of them yourself so why pay $6-7 for one? read more

Probably the only good place in Northborough to go if you want to get some work done, apart from the library. It's a nice and cozy spot. The staff is always attentive and welcoming, and most of the staff are teenagers. They have a good selection of tea, coffee, lattes, flavored iced teas(called tiki teas), and smoothies. I've only ever had their green tea lattes and tiki teas. They offer soy milk which is a plus if that's your thing. The tiki teas are good, nothing to rave about. Their green tea latte(w/ soy milk) is solid, however I was disappointed to see that the matcha powder they use has a lot of additives in it. Just use the pure stuff! They have a great spread of baked goods. They've also got bagels, grilled cheese, soups, and flatbread pizzas. I once had their thai flatbread, ehhh I won't be trying it again anytime soon. The sauce tasted a little too peanut buttery... Also one thing that really disappoints me is that they don't offer ceramic cups and dishware for customers who decide to enjoy they drinks/food at the cafe. And what really irritates me is seeing the food packaged in styrofoam! I don't think there is any excuse for using styrofoam, when everyone is well aware of the green movement going on. There are so many better options for disposable containers. I've mentioned it to the staff before but I see that nothing has been done about it. I seem to have mentioned a lot of negatives. Yes there are many things that could be improved but I do enjoy going there to get work done or meet up with a friend. I love the free wi-fi and the great atmosphere. read more

I finally stopped in for the first time since they relocated from Shrewsbury. I don't know why I didn't come sooner! It's surprisingly easy to find, with ample parking. There are tables outside, and plenty of seating inside. When I walked in I was blown away by the cute decor. My mom had a great time looking at all of the t-shirts and mugs. While I only came for coffee, the menu looked pretty extensive as well. I ordered a pistachio latte while my mom had a salted caramel latte. Both iced. The service was quick and friendly. We split a gluten free biscotti that was delicious. The pistachio latte was good, but the salted caramel latte was even better! I'll have to try one of everything!!! Customer service was terrible. All the drip coffees were cold and the staff did not care to brew more fresh coffee. The staff was too busy planning her party with a non-paying customer to help. Once in step inside you will never now that you in a small strip mall in quiet Northborough. It felt like a tropical adventure yet a bit of maze and felt cluttered . It is alot in you face once you walk in. Once I found my way to the counter they a large menu with many latte choices but the prices were rather hidden. I was somewhat skeptical about the quality with all the flare, but The Pumpkin spice latte was one of the best of have had yet. Perfectly made and with a nice creme on top not thick foam, the espresso was strong. Prices were not cheap but it worth it. Service was friendly and helpful . It would be nice to see who their coffee roaster is since they are selling beans by the pound. It is worth the trip off the beaten path to visit , they were even featured on Chronicle . We ordered vanilla lattes and granola with milk. The lattes were very good and not overly sweet. The granola was very good. The baristas were very friendly and quick. The place looked clean. Went here for the first time with a friend to sit outside on a sunny day. The option to sit outside was nice and the coffee was 'ok; but I also ordered a grilled cheese to go. For $7 this was the most unsatisfying disappointing sandwich. Thin, not filling at all and lacking the balsamic vinaigrette that is supposed to come on the Venice grilled cheese. Toppings did not fill the sandwich, leaving the entire edge of the sandwich just eating bread. Also the side of a total of 6 goldfish was highly disappointing. Lala Java is incredible! My daughter and I were there today (12/12/11) and its absolutely a wonderful place with the most delicious coffee, snacks, hot grilled cheese creations and a wide variety of iced beverages. But what sets Lala's apart is the amazing amount of unique gifts, custom T-Shirts, mugs and accessories. When you set foot in the door you're greeted by soft but great new wave music and an aroma that makes you glad you walked through the door. Lala's name sake (the owner) is usually there to greet customers and she pleasantly answer questions about all the creativity behind the one-of-a-kind store (her husband is the creative genius who designed all the counters, original shelving, serving areas and seating.) Lala's is a can't miss cafe that is conveniently located on Main Street Northboro right near the junction of Rte 20 in a small plaza with other unique stores.
