I am not one that goes out for breakfast often as I hate spending big money on food that costs relatively nothing when cooked at home. I was in Mandeville yesterday and took my nephew to LaLou at his request as part of his sendoff before he leaves for college Saturday. $26 for a starter of six biscuits, three pieces of pain perdu (three sourdough slices of bread as French toast) and a plain Belgian waffle with water to drink is ridiculous but the warm blackberry compote that came with the biscuits was delicious and our server was a sweetheart. read more

Liam and her wonderful staff are the best on the Northshore. Always friendly and attentive to your needs with one of the tastiest, creative menus around. We consider it a home away from home to visit with family and friends and try to go every week. With their love and warmth they now feel like family too. Liam's generous heart and love for our military gave Capt. Lucian James Siracuse a huge party in honor of his 99th birthday. We are tremendously grateful to her and the help of her daughter Lizabeth and sister, Terry Daigrepont for serving that evening. I've only had the breakfast here a couple of times since it changed names. The food is pretty good, but a bit overpriced in my opinion for what you get. The service is really what merits the three stars. We barely ever saw our server and the food service was extremely slow. I'd give it another chance. May have been growing pains. read more

Delicious Easter breakfast eggs, grits, pancakes were worth the wait. Definitely homemade... Crowded had to wait 20 mins. Clean and the service was excellent. We will be going back for sure. If your looking for a quaint unpretentious place to eat you'll feel good going here. read more

This place is awesome. If you're a breakfast food type person then this is for you. Remember Tiffin Inn on the South Shore? Well this place has them matched if not beat. It's a converted house so you have to be flexible with sitting in close quarters with other people. None of that bothers me. It's a good charming small place that is surprisingly efficient. Trying to watch my weight, ordered their oatmeal. They didn't have it. Why is it on the menu if they don't have it? Asked for an Italian dish instead that had a lemon butter sauce on a lot of veggies with some eggs. Asked for it without the butter. They wouldn't make it, said it would burn in the pan. I'm sorry - but do they not know how to grill or sauté vegetables? I asked the waitress this, and she just kept nodding and smiling. We really enjoyed this restaurant when it was the Broken Egg. I always get the potato sensations and even began making them at home, I enjoyed them so much. We recently went now that it is LaLou and probably won't return. The restaurant seems to be a shell of its former self. The service was slow and the potatoes I ordered were so greasy I didn't even finish them. The white stuff on the side was maybe sour cream, maybe butter -- we didn't know. It was super sweet to be either. My husband tasted it and even suggested it might be whipped cream. read more

LaLou's has an inviting homey feel with real home cooked meals. Great for a rainy day or sunny brunch. I got the "loaded" potatoes and they were absolutely delicious. Everyone working was very kind and attentive. We come to visit family in Louisiana every year and this is always our go-to must! My boyfriend gets the blue grab Benedict which he devoured. Omelette was packed with crab meat and delicious, and coffee was good, but it took 30 minutes to get a cup of coffee. Apparently they had some sort of emergency as waiter apologized and indicated someone was sent to the emergency room. read more

Came here with my wife after 5 months. Quality of food and service both have deteriorated. My breakfast nachos were over cooked whereas before they were outstanding and I ate every morsel. Today I left half the plate. Wife's Ponchatoula omelet was a bit dry. It Used to be outstanding. Our water pitcher was served with the bus person's thumb inside the pourer and his fingers were around the rim of both our water glasses. We won't be back . Our favorite server was not to be seen either. read more

The service here is terrible. Today we waited 20 minutes for a drink order and almost 2 hours to receive our meal. The restaurant was half full! The food remains good however supervision over the young waitstaff is poor at best. We will, unfortunately, be taking our business elsewhere. read more

My mom came in town to visit and we were vert excited to return to La Lou as we had not been back since the name change. Needless to say as soon as we walked in the door our terrible experience began and we should have walked away at that moment. The hostess had no personality, did not acknowledge us because she was highlighting her paper. We only had to wait about 10 minutes for our table however, the lovely hostess called us inside before our table was completely ready. She stood in the doorway while we stood there for another few minutes waiting for them to finish setting the table. She did not acknowledge us or try to spark a conversation and left in an awkward situation. Once we sat down we had to wait a while before anyone came to our table. We placed our drink and lunch order at the same time. We had to ask for our drinks after about 10 minutes of waiting for them. The only reason why I am giving 2 stars is because the food wasn't fantastic but wasn't terrible. The atmosphere in the restaurant was very tense as several neighboring tables appeared to have the same experience and began to argue with the waitstaff. Completely shocking to walk into a business with a baby in a car seat hanging from your wrist and be ignored multiple times by old lady servers walking by,heading to the kitchen and not once greet you.....not a smile,not a nod,nada like I was totally invisible----completely shocking. If I could rate this place no stars then I definitely would. I tried this place because despite the bitchy last owner I like the food at The Broken Egg and this was owned by the same people. May I remind everyone that the last place was shut down due to extreme tax fraud. Anyways I go into the new improved La Lou and immediately the staff is even less impressive than the owner and her family. She complained about us and made fun of us for my grandma being in a wheelchair while we were standing only a few feet away. I shot her a glare and a look of disbelief while she continued to bash us as we going to be seated. They squished us in the smallest possible table in the back. I couldn't even move my chair bc it so far up against the wall. And I had to sit sideways throughout my whole meal bc the table was so low. The waiter walked up got our drink order, never smiled or introduced himself. Then took 15 minutes to get a coffee and a mimosa. Food took so long I nearly left and went somewhere else. Of course when I complained my food came out immediately. Horrible experience. Horrible staff. And again the SAME horrible owners. Never going here again! read more

Waited 25 minutes to be seated on Sunday at about 10:30. There was one large table ahead of us with 5 and then our table of 6. After 25 minutes, I went in to check on where we were with regards to being seated. Meanwhile, anther table of 5 had walked in and walked out. While waiting for the answer on how much longer to be seated, the table of five that had left was seated ahead of us, by the owner!!!!! Then the table of 5 ahead of us on the list was seated. Still today, I do not know when I am being seated. Needless to say, we left, went to Beach House and was immediately seated and had some awesome crawfish fritters. read more

I came here with a friend of mine for breakfast on a Saturday morning. We were under the impression that a new owner had bought the restaurant that used to be The Broken Egg. We looked over the menu before we were seated and were anxious to try several of the dishes. After we took a closer look around we noticed not a lot had changed since it had been The Broken Egg. A quick google search revealed that it was in fact the same owner as before. However, we were still willing to give it a chance. I ordered the Crabcake Napolean which was actual a large chunk of gritcake and a tiny sliver of crab on top. The crab was absolutely awful. It wasn't fresh, looked like it came from a can but even so, it was just bad. I couldn't eat more than a couple of bites. My friend got the Mandeville Omelet which also has crabmeat in it, and his experience was the same. Not to mention that our meals tasted awfully similar, as if they have one big jug of seasoning mix back in the kitchen and just throw it on everything. It's not hard to get good, fresh lump crabmeat in Southern Louisiana. To serve your patrons canned crab is just gross and even worse, the crab had gone bad. Very disappointing. read more
