I am only giving 3 stars because our server and staff were very kind. The food was not very good and we waited for quite a long while, watching other patrons that were there after us get service before us. The staff was nice but they never asked if we liked our food. The bacon had a weird chemical flavor and the chicken was very tough. The lettuce was fresh and the pancakes were good. I barely touched the wedge salad with chicken that I ordered and didn't take it home. Still, nobody checked on the quality which tells me they didn't really care to make it right. They were pretty busy and I didn't want to start an ordeal sending food back. But, it's disheartening to spend my hard earned money on food that I don't like. This is just my opinion. I was happy to be able to eat out on a beautiful Sunday and thankful they were open. They simply did not meet the food quality standard I have. We loved the food! I ordered the simple breakfast with bacon, which was perfectly cooked, and scrambled eggs which were perfectly seasoned. The potatoes were very crispy and tasty! My husband ordered the Covington omelet (which was misspelled in the menu!) but still very good! Our waitress was busy but cute and sweet. The atmosphere is charming, love the decor and the feel. We came in for brunch on the 4th of November. The service was great, we were seated quickly and our waitress made sure everything was good. We order the seasonal pumpkin pancakes and the sweet potato pancakes with blueberries. Both dishes were amazing and the pancakes were much bigger than we expected. This is a favorite breakfast spot of mine! I always go with the traditional breakfast and you can't beat it- eggs, bacon or sausage, country potatoes or grits, and an English muffin or toast. Yum! The country potatoes are so great! The fruit plate is great as well. I love the atmosphere here. This place is packed on a weekend morning but it never takes too long to get a table. While I am not normally one to complain about a restaurant, this one ruined a good part of my day. I visited this restaurant today; although the food was quite tasty, my family and I had our experience completely tattered by the lack of attentiveness from our waitress. We were stuck in a back corner and completely ignored by our waitress, although she seemed to have time to be attentive to every other table surrounding us. It was as if we didn't exist. She was impolite, unapologetic when she messed up our orders, and acted as if we were not as important as her other customers. We ordered our drinks and didn't get them for 15 minutes after she realized she never brought them. I'm not sure if it's because we weren't regulars, but if that were my very first impression of a restaurant's waitstaff, I would never be returning. I believe she told the table next to ours that she was the owner's daughter. If it were not for one of the sweet food-runners, we would've never gotten drinks, food, you name it. Glad to see that this building re-opened as another breakfast-brunch focused restaurant. We came here for brunch one Sunday with the family, about 7 people total. The service was somewhat lacking - it took a long time for someone to take our drink order, and we were offered refills only toward the end of the meal. Each of us ordered a breakfast platter, which was quite expensive; however, the amount of food was decent for the price. Some of us had asked for exceptions, no guac, or meat on the side, etc., and these exceptions were forgotten. This was especially problematic for my boyfriend's brother, who is a vegetarian. He was nice, though, and simply scooped the meat out of his omelette. We also noticed (what appeared to be) a manager going around, speaking with tables, checking on the meal, but our table was not approached. Had they spoken with us, we might have addressed these issues in-person. We'll probably give it another try because it's one of the few decent brunch spots in Mandeville, and we had such good memories with A Broken Egg Cafe. However, we will be careful about our orders and making sure that our needs are fulfilled properly. read more

This is my "go to" breakfast/brunch place! I've never had anything I haven't liked from here. This is THE place to get fresh and local fare. Family friendly, casual dining that won't break the bank. They take the time to make sure your food is good and done right. The location is fantastic, just steps away from the lake front. Sit outside and enjoy breakfast or dine inside of a charming old Mandeville style home. The staff is always pleasant and super accommodating. I usually have one of their Benedict breakfast dishes (which are always good)...because nothing makes me happier than a perfectly poached egg! The food here is great, but the service is consistently awful. We came in Sunday morning at 9:30 with friends and 2 children under 2. We were initially told by the hostess that they don't have high chairs. Since that answer surprised us, we checked with a waitress who said they did have them but they were all in use. No worries, we said, just let us know when one comes available. For 2 hours while we were there (that's how long the food took to arrive), we were told they were all out of high chairs. We asked several time, and it was shrugged off. We spoke with another employee upon leaving who confirmed that they were all in use. For a restaurant on the Northshore, this is completely unacceptable. A few more high chairs for the weekend rush are definitely needed. I loved this restaurant as Broken Egg, and the food is delicious and large portions. Unfortunately, every recent experience has been lacking customer service. read more

I have always loved la Lou and the people there, but this time was not that great of an experience. When I got there, there was a wait(normal). When I got to my seat, I was offered a drink, they brought the drinks, but then never came back until about 30 minutes later to ask us what to order. After another hour of then cooking our food, we finally got it. The food was excellent. I got the Italian Countryside. It is an egg with ham, and a bunch of vegetables and flavorful slices. I think it was a bit oily because there was about a one inch stack of thickly sliced ham at the bottom. It was very good, and the place is great, but I think they might need to work on the service part, because our meals were pretty simple and it took them an hour to get it out to us, even though it wasn't packed at all. I have enjoyed this restaurant for breakfast in Mandeville for years. The food is good and the staff is always on the spot. Lately they have started playing music starting when they open for breakfast. It's loud, overbearing rock and roll that make enjoying your meal almost impossible. I have asked the to adjust the volume many times but it Disney seem to matter. I'm sure it helps the staff get moving in the morning but now it's moving me on to find a new place to spend my morning! Walked in and had a bad experience from the start. The hostess (don't know her name) was really rude and we had 5 people total and a 3 month old in a stroller in our party. She said we had to count her as a 6th person which was weird but whatever. We got sat down and didn't even get a drink order for 20 MINUTES. Other people were getting sat down after us and receiving orders. Don't know how you miss a table of five right in the front of the restaurant. I had to go grab someone just to get a drink order started. I've known this location as The Broken Egg Cafe since I was a child. Decided to bring some out of state friends for a nice experience and will def say they won't be back again. Very sad. Didn't even receive an apology. My husband's cousin and his wife invited us for brunch. The location is in Old Town Mandeville. Cute little place. Apparently it is the same building as the old Broken Yolk/Egg cafe. I wasn't sure which one. Lol. The walls were painted like a little brick cottage. Tables had checkered print table clothes but had paper on top.. I assume so the table cloth wouldn't get dirty. The also had a tiny dining area out on their front patio for those who wanted to eat outside while it was beautiful weather I wish I had ordered some coffee but since we were being treated I didn't want to be greedy. So instead I ordered a sweet tea. It was sweetened to perfection, topped with a lemon wedge. It took me a while to figure out what I wanted because I couldn't decide if I wanted to try something new or stick with what I know. I contemplated between their "Simple Breakfast" and the "Mandeville" which is an omelette. On the menu.. there are a ton of omelettes to choose from all with cute Louisiana based names. So finally I decided to grub on the "Mandeville" omelette which has crab meat, cream cheese topped with some type of cheese and green onions. It was fairly large! Absolutely delicious though. If I could recreate this I would! But I'm terrible at making omelettes! The meal came with a toasted English muffin with a tiny container of butter and two pieces of fruit. I think had a honeydew melon and a slice of an orange. I was afraid I wasn't going to be full after eating but it was plenty! My husband got the "Lake" omelette which consisted of crawfish, mushroom and I think shrimp. My husband didn't really say much but "it was good" (eye roll) He isn't much help! But his cousin had gotten the same. His cousin's wife had gotten some type of eggs Benedict on top of crab cakes. I'm a sucker for crab cakes but I'm not a fan of Eggs Benedict so I passed on a taste test! The service was alright, I don't really even remember if she had checked to see if we were alright. And didn't refill our teas. Which is why I only gave four stars. But it was a cute place. Bathroom was clean! The waiting room even had a tiny basket of toys.. like a few Mr. potato heads without eyes. My oldest enjoyed them and cried after realizing there weren't eyes or hands for the little guy! Everything was great! My husband and I were looking for a quaint spot to have brunch, and we found it. The LaLou bloody mary is a winner- seasoned perfectly and garnished with many goodies including pickled okra. I had the veggie eggs benedict on wheat english muffin with the sauce on the side and it was just right for me. Not too heavy and eggs were cooked perfectly. My husband had the tamales benedict and also finished his plate. Our server was also great. Kerri had the entire front (small) room, was triple sat, and still provided us with excellent service. Highlights: the sweet breakfasts, especially Brioche Stuff, a couple of the omelets (they spell omelet wrong, so watch out!), and the Lakeshore Scramble. Great bacon! Horrible service! We've eaten here before and the food is great but the service disappoints. My wife and I came with the dog to walk the lake and decided to give it another shot and grab a bite to eat here. The lady told us there was no server to wait outside. She said we could sit but they would wait on us at their convenience and we would have to chase down a server for refills and such. I've been in the service industry for 15 years and I know that's bull. If your guest wants to sit outside you get a server to accommodate them. We won't be back unfortunately.
