Enjoyed the special fried rice as it was my first time trying St Louis fried rice so I have nothing to compare it to. I also grabbed a St. Paul and a fruit punch Vess. They said the pork was their best seller and it was ok, maybe wished I had done a special St Paul or shrimp instead. Customer service was great, they were very helpful and friendly. I have Chinese cuisine maybe 2 times a year max. It's just not my thing, but.... when I have it, there are only 2 places I will get it from and Lam's is 1 of 2. Located in U. City, this place has been here forever. They've changed their ordering process due to Covid, there is a walk up window on the left side of the building. They will take orders on site, but recommended to call ahead. 15 min is all you need to have hot food in your hand. I walked up and ordered, was given a number and told to wait in my car as they would call the number over the loud speaker. 15 min later, heard my number, grabbed the bags and done. 1/2 order Chicken Lo Mein, Whole order Fried Rice combo Beef and Chicken, 4 egg rolls and 1 order crab Rangoon. No complaints from me, it's StL's finest. See y'all next year. read more

The most unsatisfied I have been in a while. 1st the orange chicken is suppsed to be a "half order" and said to not come as a combination order. Why is it in a combo box? The orange chicken was so salty, like soy sauce. No actual pieces of meat in the chicken all CRISP and CRUNCH. How is this a half order...I tried to let them know I was not satisfied they locked the doors and turned the closed sign. read more

This used to be my go to spot for fried rice. Don't get me wrong, it's still okay just not consistent in delivery of product. I picked up some after craving it for weeks, and it was just okay. My special St. Paul sandwich was a regular old St. Paul sandwich. Deep fried egg, lots of bean sprouts, and the "special" proteins like shrimp, pork, and chicken. Served on white bread with lots of mayonnaise. It was good for what it was. I was in the area and didn't have to go east of 170 to get one. I'd go back for another one. Holy salt content! I ordered special fried rice and crab Rangoon. The crab Rangoon were barely stuffed and oddly salty... like really salty. I had a couple coworkers try them and everyone one of us threw them away. The fried rice was actually really tasty, but the ham (big cube of it) was super salty. I would try them again to taste something new and maybe avoid the ham! read more

If I could give this place to the health department I would. Back door was open while I circled the building to park. Walked past the back door to literally catch kitchen worker biting chicken or duck or something off the bone and spitting it inside a wok on their stove. Disgusting!!!!! read more

I love a good hole in the wall Chinese restaurant! And this is the one! The owners are nice and know their customers. I ordered a half order of special friend rice and a St. Paul. People in stl need to appreciate their Chinese restaurants because you can't find this food anywhere else in the nation. The food is flavorful and filling( or as filling as you'd expect because you'll be hungry again in an hour ) my St Paul was so good I should have gotten one for later. This place isn't great. It's not bad. It's ok though. Their prices are pretty good, and they give you a lot of food for their dishes. Fried rice is dirt cheap here. But they're not even close to the best in town - especially considering Lam's neighbors. They're cash only, and relatively quick. I only did take-out, and was fairly pleased with the responsiveness. Not the most polite folks, but I just wanted my food to go so it didn't really matter to me. If you're looking for a great place to eat, this is not it. If you're looking for a quick in-and-out type of chinese takeout place, and price is your biggest factor, then Lam's might be for you. read more

I love lambs garden have been going there for couple months. Food good My MOM loves the ham fried rice. Went there yesterday with my regular order while ham fried rice with extra ham no onions no eggs. I've been eating at Lam's Garden for half my life! I really enjoy their shrimp fried rice with bean sprouts and gravy. Unlike many other places, the shrimp is actually cooked! Recently, I just started getting their fried chicken- it's fried to perfection! My only complaint is the egg rolls. I've been twice in the past month and both times I've asked for a veggie egg roll but instead, it's pork. read more

Have been dealing with Lam's for years. The bldg isn't reall designed for dinning in, but there are tables for you to do so if you wish, but not for a large group. Parking is minimal. It's better to call your order in and then pick it up. The food is pretty good, a little grease at times. They have transfered ownership from the father to the son. Since then the food is has changed in taste. I know everyone don't cook the same, the flavor is different. Taste good, prices reasonable. They don't deliver, I have never seen a public restroom and isn't a 4 star resturant. Definitely a carry out restaurant. read more

I had Spicy Szechuan Chicken and it was pretty good. But seriously... Garden? More like a former Chuck-A-Burger. The Chuck-A_Burgerness of the place was reason #1 I drove past so many times hungry and in search of sodium. Garden? Who keeps a filthy stationary bike in their garden? Yet there it is, amongst the tables. Maybe a better name would be Lam's Former Chuck-A-Burger and Crappy Gym. And the Vess salesman surely saw these people coming from five miles away. Or, more, likely, he's their son. They have five year's worth of every possible flavor, cans and bottles, colorfully displayed in the cooler. Me: Do you have Diet Orange-Pineapple Soda? Lady: Yes! YES!! I think nobody evah ask!! Me: I'll have a Diet Coke (then to myself: hee hee) God: I wish I would have thought of all these flavors when I made the Garden of Eden, then Eve would have just had an apple soda. Wait a minute...colorful display, Garden of Eden. Now I get the name! Tip: When you go to Lam's Soda Garden, bring your own fork. Or chopsticks, I guess. Just don't try to use the extra EXTRA cheap, flimsy and tiny little fork they give you. What horrible company sells these things? These forks couldn't stab a bowl of pudding, much less big chunks of onion and green pepper. Try loading those onions, peppers and maybe some chicken onto one of those little forks for a good bite and you'll understand why I stayed up all night thinking of creative ways to dis this place. Fried Rice. For me, the rule is the nicer the place," the worse their fried rice is. This is the main reason why I try all the ghetto places in town, even if they're right next to more "legitimate" places. The stuff I usually try at these places are wings and fried rice. The wings at Lam's are typical of any other takeout place, nicely marinated in what is likely soy / sugar / sesame oil and coated in whatever they coat their general tso's in. I think people underestimate the quality of takeout wings. The fried rice, however, is pretty good, but not something I'd get out of my way for. The main thing that I didn't like about it was that a lot of the meat was dry. Either way, if I'm jonesing for fried rice and wings, I hit this place up or Wong's Wok. However, Sun Restaurant still holds my heart as the best ghetto takeout place in town. read more

Some of the best special fried rice you can get in Mid county. A whole order and crab Rangoon was 10 bucks. Clean take out restaurant with friendly staff. Open on Monday. Only knock is they don't take credit card, so bring cash. read more

Sure, sometimes I feel some of the locals maybe getting ready to rob the place, but you would know that by looking at the neighborhood. The counter lady is polite but not friendly. I have eaten here every week of so for 10 years and she always asks - for here to to go. Well, it's for here just like the last 500 times I have been here. And they will always answer the phone in the middle of your order. but you know what? The food of good. Great food, but VERY slow service. I ordered ahead and was told "15 minutes". I was actually only a couple of minutes away when I ordered, but waited 20 minutes anyway. Once I got there and gave my name for the pickup, it took another 20 minutes before I got my food. A grand total of 40 minutes. But the food is good, just wish their service was faster. Living here in Stl for the last 47 years, I've had a lot of Asian food. Lam's has the best hot braised boneless chicken. Their rice is always cooked right. When my dad was alive, he would drive down from Chicago and stop at Lam's before coming to my house! He said he can't get Chinese food this good in Chicago! The best Chinese food in St. Louis. I've been coming here since I was a kid and even though I now live almost 40 minutes away, it's definitely worth the drive. I've always been pleased with Lams Garden take-out. The place looks sketchy and dirty and I wouldn't eat there, but for good cheap Chinese food that's alright with me. I really love their Szechuan Beef, and their fried rice is great. I did find a shrimp in my chicken fried rice one time, which was only significant because I am allergic to shrimp, but it wasn't a big deal. read more

Apparently, I wasn't the only one because this place got packed by 6p on a weekday! The line was out the door. It can be a little confusing for a first time goer as you enter the place and grab a bowl to select the ingredients you want to eat. The minimum weight that you have to buy is 0.9 lbs, but you really won't know how much your bowl weighs until you get up to the cashier and put it on the scale. My bowl was underweight my first time through, so I went back to grab more ingredients. If I had to guess the minimum cost for a 0.9 lb bowl, it's probably about $16, which is a pretty good price for a hot pot. My bowl weighed about 0.97 and it was way more than I could comfortably eat. The next decision you have to make after you have selected your ingredients is the base and spicy level. I went with #1 Oil splash spicy soup at medium spice level. Now, I enjoy spicy foods, but this was at the upper limit of enjoyability. Although tasty, I think the oil in the broth got to be too much and I will want to try a different base next time. After you pay for your food, you get a number which you take to a table of your choosing and wait for your bowl to come out (they cook it for you). There is a drinking water station next to the free rice station, which was around the corner from the complimentary pickled vegetable station.
